Hey, I'm a Philly girl, we are almost always using that word, and it's not for offendment, but for almost like...friendship joke. I don't see the big deal really, hee hee, but yeah. I hope you continue it soon, I'll be looking forwards to another great chapter, kay? ^_^

You replied: "I am really sorry that I offended you. I have read the history between Japan, China, and Korea and I am well aware of all of it. I tried my best not to offend anyone, but in the end it happens anyway. I know Japanese people who are offended by it and who aren't, and I have plenty of friends who are Chinese and Korean. I was just putting that in the fic because of personal experience. But please don't get so mad, I wasn't trying to promote hate by any means. I know your people have a history of pain and loss, but so do mine and many others. What I have learned since I was called a nigger by a little white girl in elementary school was this: Get over it. People are going to hate and kill each other over stupid shit like race, religion, even because you live in a certain area. I don't milk the fact that my people were taken from their land and enslaved. And I don't claim that the government owes me soooooo much. I try to make a use of what Dr. King, Malcom X, and many black leaders fought for. I do my best to show people that not all African Americans, are loud and belligerent. We are not all basketball and football players, rappers and music video booty girls. We're not all convicts and drug dealers, and as far as women go, we sure as hell ain't nobody's mammy. As you can see, there are poets, writers, doctors, and politicians. But I appreciated that you did give the information out to people who don't know the history, and I thank you for that...I just wish isn't wasn't directed at me in an attack. If you have AIM please, please instant message me at Feylance or just reply to this email. I would love to get to know you."

You may not have been purposely "trying to promote hate," but you seem incredibly unaware that by writing of it, you inevitably utilize, and therefore give the appearance of accepting and tolerating it. That is the message some readers will get. Don't you understand the power writers have to influence others? Good writers know to use their power well, or not use it at all. Bad writers seem to continually ignore the fact, or are simply too stupid to realize it. And we all know what happens when stupid people are installed in a position of power: the results can be compared to George W.Bush as President.

This isn't just about "my people." This is about your writing having cast BOTH JAPANESE AND CHINESE people in negative lights. You have cast the Chinese as an inferior race that causes people to say, and I quote from your writing, "Yuck!" when mistaken for being Chinese. You have made the Japanese seem like arrogant racists. Since you claim to know Japanese who aren't offended by it, I'm amazed that you still went ahead and used it, perpetuating the stereotype that Japanese dislike Chinese. You even wrote in your author's note "Also, a little info, I found out that Japanese people hate to be mistaken for Chinese; it supposed to be really offensive. " Your "info" is both incomplete and flawed. And yet, you attempt to impart your wisdom to your audience. Such arrogance.

I'm not "milking the fact," as you are somehow insinuating. Nor do I claim that the Japanese owes me "sooooo much." I doubt that I would enjoy anime, manga, jrock, or have numerous Japanese friends otherwise. "My people" may have a "history of pain and loss," but we were also one of the greatest civilizations in human history. I do not NEED to rely on moments of "pain and loss" to gain recognition. I have gotten over the fact that certain events happened, and that I cannot change them, but I cannot believe you have the gall to say "get over it" regarding racism as a whole. Racism is not something to "get over." It is something humanity must combat. I will never "get over it," will never get over the fact that people are ignorant and hypocritical enough to renounce racism, while flippantly using it in their writing.

Yes, I'm calling you a hypocrite. By telling people to "get over it," you're not using what numerous civil liberties leaders fought for, you're destroying it. They didn't "get over it," they fought it. You can't show others the capabilities of your race while simultaneously calling racism something to "get over". That is a demonstration of one of the highest degrees of ignorance and hypocrisy that I have ever seen.

I doubt that you have read the history between Japan, China, and Korea, as even the most intellectually challenged child would realize NOT to use this historical grudge in their writing after learning of it. If you really have read it, then my contempt for you has only deepened. To be aware of it, and still use the Sino-Japanese issue in such a manner within your writing is absolutely appalling.

Many Asians as a whole dislike being mistaken for an Asian race that is not their own, as it can be quite irritating. It's like how New Zealanders dislike their accent being called "Australian." It's irritation towards over-generalization. You could have used that. Instead, you specifically used the Sino-Japanese grudge, which is not an issue of generalization, rather, is an issue of racism. How could you have DARED to use it while possibly knowing of its historical impact?

You say: "But I appreciated that you did give the information out to people who don't know the history, and I thank you for that...I just wish isn't wasn't directed at me in an attack."
Oh, how your hypocrisy stuns me. "Whoops! I failed in my duty as a writer, so now I'll slip a fake and hasty thanks to someone who picked up the slack. But I will still complain that they attacked me while they were at it." I SHOULD NOT have had to give that information out to "people who don't know the history." I am not the author of theis fanfiction. If you didn't want "attacks," perhaps you should have used that organ evolution blessed selected specimens of mankind with before posting. Perhaps you should have, ah, what's that process called...thought?

You say:"I am really sorry that I offended you."
And I'm really, really, eally, really sorry that your "apology" does absolutely nothing, and that your readers will STILL be misled.

I'm kicking myself for wasting my time on someone who will never realize the gravity of their misdeeds. But then again, I guess it's because I'm one of those people who won't "get over it." I'm one of those people who will continually fight it and ignorance when she finds it. And I'm one of the people that hope that someday, somehow, the people who want to "get over it" will pull their heads out of their arses.

Finally, here are some greetings from some Korean and Japanese friends. They would be, you know, people you kind of offended. Just a little bit. They'd "love to get to know you" as well.

A Korean friend says: 너같은 사람은 일류를위해 칼로 질르고, 총으로 쏘으고, 물에 매번 빠트려 죽여야데 (Nuh katun sa rahm uhn, ilryu wuihe kal lo jiirugoh, chonguroh soh wu goh, mul eh meh bun batturyuh chook yuh yah deh.)

A Japanese friend says: お前みたいな人なんか大嫌いだ!死ね!! (Omae mitaina hito nanka daikiraida! shine!!)

And from me, in Chinese: 就是因为這个世界上有你這样的人才会有种族歧视的。为何你不可以感到羞愧而改過你自己錯誤的想法而不是假装地道歉? (Jiu shi yin wei zhe ge shi jie shang you ni zhe yang de ren cai hui you zhong zhu qi shi de. wei he ni bu ke yi gan dao xiu ke er gai guo ni zi ji cuo wu de xiang fa, er bu shi jia zhuang de dao qian.)

Hopefully your friends can translate for you.

Dear Nahaujaret, I agree with you when you say that this story has potential. I strongly believe that you have great potential; I strongly believe that anyone has great potential when they mysteriously manage to use conjuctions, spell things correctly, use a larger vocabulary and not write for an audience.

I will be frank in saying that I did not actually finish your first chapter. Truth be told, I finished about half, asked a friend for a synopsis and went straight for the bottom. I apologize in advance if the following portion of this review is in any way void.

I have noticed that Swiftsword has already dumped the Sino-Japanese War, the Korean-Japanese War and many other Japanese atrocities over your head like a bucket of cold water. I do believe she also mentioned how the Japanese hating to be called Chinese thing is not one-sided. I do not wish to antagonize your further on this issue, but I find it very hard to believe that ANYONE would even dare throw something like this into a fanfiction story. It's like calling an Indian 'Paki', or vice versa. Or perhaps even calling a patriotic American a Brit. Of COURSE it's 'offensive', of COURSE the Japanese "hate it". Making such an addition to your story is stupid. It's utterly asinine, and it shows a total disregard for culture.

I usually don't 'flame' people -- I do try to be nice. However, I found it unberably irritating when you mentioned in your author's note that "[you are] an African American so…you know." Do you really believe that mentioning that you're an African American will buy your way out of offending anyone? I for one hold people of all cultures in very high regard, so I honestly don't care a whit where you're from, or who your ancestors were. It's what YOU do that counts, and I am very sorry to say that I am having trouble extending my 'humanitarian regard' to accomodate you.

What I immediately thought while reading your story was 'this girl doesn't have a clue what the Japanese are like. She doesn't really know what it's like to be a second-generation Asian living in the United States'. Perhaps you counter my point -- and pardon me if this is incorrect -- with something along the lines of 'many authors don't really try to put themselves in the place of their characters'. Maybe you're right, though I strongly disagree with that statement. The greatest authors in this generation have always understood what their characters are feeling, what the environment they are breathing within is like. Have you ever had an English teacher who told the class that 'if you want to know what the author is saying, you have to know his background'? Ponder that a bit, think it through. Maybe you'll even understand.

As for my deepest gut feeling? The slang was worthy of ten thousand migraines buffeting my head. I honestly believe that people who hunt all over the realm of fanfiction for a story with tons of slang that is "brought to life" should be doing something a little more academic with their time.

On a final note, why are you even appealing to 'you guys' at all? Write for yourself, not for a couple of people on the internet whom you hardly know.

I'm sorry, but I could not stand the way you used the "Japanese hate to be mistaken for Chinese" thing. You don't seem to understand the gravity of it at all. Did you even bother to find out one of the reasons why Japanese hate to be mistaken for Chinese? This isn't an issue of merely being mistaken for another race. There's also the fact that there's a huge historical grudge between the Japanese and the Chinese. Do some research. In WWII, the Japanese practically massacred Chinese civillians, going so far as to use them in incredibly inhumane biochemical experiments, as the Japanese considered the Chinese to be an "inferior" race. Look up "Unit 731" on Google.

THAT is why many Japanese will be offended when mistaken for a Chinese--they don't want to be compared to an "inferior" race. They also feel this way about Koreans, whose country they occupied savagely for over 35 years, even forcing them to change their name from "Corea" to "Korea" simply because "C" came before "J" in the alphabet.

Even today, there are huge political differences between Japan and Korea/China.

The way you used this attitude in your writing was incredibly offensive to me, as I am Chinese.

I passed this fanfiction to a Japanese friend of mine, who was too furious to personally comment, and she was offended as well. She feels that it casts the Japanese in a negative, ignorant, intolerant light. As a Japanese that has grown up in the international community, rather than in Japan, she *has* learnt of Japanese war crimes, and *has* many Chinese and Korean friends. She is not one of the Japanese who feel offended when mistaken for a Chinese; she feels it can be an honest mistake. She would like to inform you that not all Japanese grow up in Japan, where the Japanese government has removed Japanese war atrocities from their school textbooks, even altering historical events to blame Chinese and Koreans. There are some Japanese people who *do* know what's going on.

Don't try and defend yourself with the "WARNING: RACIAL SLURS" in the author's note. This is beyond racial slurs--when properly used, I can handle those. This is pure ignorance on your part.

And if you think the Japanese dislike being mistaken for Chinese or Koreans, just think how mad some Chinese and Koreans get when they're mistaken for Japanese--a race that has brutally killed and oppressed their ancestors.

If your school offers courses in Japanese, Korean, and Chinese history, I would reccomend that you take them. Learn of the history before attempting to use what is not just "a bit of info you learnt about Japanese being offended" but is actually historical hate.

We're trying to move past the hate. Don't fucking use it.

Your story is really interesting....it's definitely and different angle on Rin and Sesshomaru that I never read before. Sesshomaru with cornrows and baggy clothes?!?!.....that image was pretty strange and funny......I'm cool with most of your slang in the piece....If Rin was hanging tough in the hood of Chicago....yea, she would pick up certain speech element.....But, the "N" word does not need to but in it.....I'm from the hood myself, and only one or two people had never said that word when I was growing up. I know you're story will survive without that word.....and beside you don't want people to think what is "ALL" African- American people go around saying to each other all the time...do you? that word stem from slavery days and the KKK....that word is nothing but "HATE", and let's try to get rid of all the hate in the world shall we?????

But other than that I can't wait until the next chapter, you're a good writer with a good imagination, so please lose the word and keep it coming.....update soon
