Densetsu-den
Damaru- The legend of Silence
Kagome slowly walked through the
foyer of the old building. It had been
nearly seven years since the dreaded fire in which claimed the whole of her old
school, her daughters’ school… Nearly seven years since she was forced into a
mental solitude without any substantial hope… seven years since she was honest
about any of the ‘adventures’ that she had.
For a
while, she wondered if the traveling had all been a meandering of her imagination…
but, she remembered the day of the fire too well for it to be nothing but a
dream. How could she have let go? How could she have let everything happen so
quickly?
How could
she have let him just… leave?
It took
nearly all of those seven years, to let the idea of Inuyasha’s departure really
sink into her soul, but it never fully did.
He protected her with his life… when the arsonist set fire to the
building and blockaded every door and window; it had been a death trap. Somehow, he had gotten in through a broken
basement door and found her. She had
been huddled in a corner like the ingrate she really was, covering her
daughter’s mouth so she would not breathe the poisoned air. Pulling his haori
from his back, he draped it over her shoulders and head as she held tightly to
the young child clinging to her waist…he leaned down to kiss her cheek sweetly
and tried to help those that were in more urgent need of freedom from the
entrapment. He had been merely a human… upon coming to the present time,
exponentially, the jewel purified the demon from him though she didn’t mean for
that to happen… he had been content just to be with her. Their little girl was only four.
After about
an hour of inhaling the smoke and soot, Inuyasha’s lungs began to collapse on
him. He had managed to get a few of the
students outside, and as he and Kagome both hobbled from the building… he
fell. She tried to catch him but, his
weight was a bit too much and she slid to the ground with him, still holding
the young child in her arms.
“Inuyasha, please open your eyes… koi are
you okay?” Kagome’s voice was broken
with tears of guilt and fear. Slowly his
eyes fluttered open. She rubbed the
little girl’s back, trying desperately to calm her.
“Kag… {cough}
Kago…me… are you two okay?” She cupped
his face softly and kissed his cheek.
“AiShiteru, Koi… Kami… bishounen,
you’ll be fine… ganbaru. You have to
stay with me…us…kudasai” Kagome cried into his raven locks before she felt his
hand graze her own face. Searching, his
eyes were glazing with unshed tears of both hurt, and love.
“AiShiteru … bishoujo… daijobu,
Koibito … I'm always here… Gomen Kago…me.” She felt
him draw his last breath… peacefully in her arms.
She cried.
Kagome felt the tears begin, they doused
her cheeks at the sheer memory of the loss… it had ripped her apart to lose her
koibito, struck her to the core. Falling
to her knees, she tried to shake his last words from her heart… without success
of course; she could almost feel his aura wrapping itself around her disheveled
form.
“Oh,
Inuyasha… I love you so much. You would
be so proud of our little one… she turned eleven yesterday… but, she … she
can’t remember her father. It hurts so
bad that she cannot remember such a man… Kudasai… I need you to help her
remember Koi.” Pulling the locket from
beneath her shirt Kagome pried it open.
Staring at the pictures she smiled, rose and walked from the elapsed
rubble.
The sun was
shining brightly as she made her way to her car. Starting the engine, she made her way to the
old forgotten shrine upon where she first met the mysterious hanyou. When she pulled up the drive, she had tears
in her eyes at the state of anguish the property seemed to be in; she hadn’t
been there in years… but soon, mother and daughter both would once again reside
in her childhood haven. Cutting the
engine, Kagome gripped the small box in her hands and walked slowly towards the
well house… when she reached the Goshinboku, she stopped; looking up lovingly
at the small hole embedded within the bared area of the tree. She opened the box carefully, so that the
wind would not disturb the precious contents within.
“I will
always love you, Inuyasha … my beautiful koibito…we will be near you soon my love. I promise.”
She tipped
the box… letting his ashes swim along the breeze, and come to rest upon the
foot of the God Tree that would forever bond their souls.
