AN: It’s been a while since my last Inuyasha fic. I had another weird idea. I hope everyone enjoys it.
“But Kagome, he’s so cute. You HAVE to go out with him, at least once.” Kagome’s other two friends nodded their agreement.Sighing heavily, Kagome’s shoulders slumped in defeat. “All right. I will.” Tossing her head back, she glared at her friends, one by one. “But after this, I don’t want to hear another word about it, understood. I will not go out with him again if I don’t want to.” All three nodded vigorously.Satisfied, Kagome sighed and walked over to where Houjou was waiting patiently on an answer. Looking down at her feet, Kagome nervously tapped her index fingers together. “Houjou-kun, I’d be happy to go out with you tomorrow.”“I’ll pick you up at two, then, providing your health is remaining stable.” Houjou smiled and walked off whistling a haunting tune. Kagome stared after him trying to place the song but couldn’t. Kagome shifted her shoulder bag and began to walk home. The song kept playing in her mind.“Mom, Sota, Ji-chan, I’m home!” Kagome yelled as she entered her house, and toed off her shoes. Inuyasha had agreed to let her be home a week this time. She was only three days into it. She was willing to bet he would come tomorrow evening to get her regardless of their deal. It seemed like every time she had a date with Houjou, Inuyasha would drag her back to sengoku jedai.Kagome walked upstairs, humming the song Houjou had been whistling. Kagome’s grandfather peered around the corner of the living room. “Kagome-chan.” He called, stopping her halfway up. Kagome turned and answered. “Hai?”“Where did you learn that lovely song? If I’m not mistaken it was written back in the Warring States era. It is rumored that it was written by a demon that had lost his love.”“That’s so sad. Did she die in battle?” Kagome asked the obvious question, for once listening to her Ji-chan’s stories.“It was rumored that after a great battle between good and evil, she vanished from the battlefield never to be seen again.”Kagome shivered as goose bumps broke out on her arms. “A friend of mine at school was whistling it and it stuck. It’s hauntingly beautiful.” Kagome finally got around to answering her grandfather.“I would love to ask where your friend learned that song. I only know of it because of my duties as a priest. Blah, blah, blah, blah…” Kagome tuned out the rest of what her Ji-chan was saying since he was back on one of his normal lectures. He did have an interesting point though. How DID Houjou know that song? The rest of the day passed quickly for Kagome since she was catching up on all of her homework. She was proud of the fact she only had to call her friends for help three times. Stretching happily, Kagome turned to go downstairs and get a snack.A light tapping on her window had her turning back around. Kagome saw Inuyasha perched on the tree outside her room. Sighing, she opened the window. “My time is not up yet, Inuyasha.” Kagome said as she prepared for another argument. The hanyou looked down his nose at her then said, “Feh! I only came here to escape the rest of the group. Shippou’s whining is getting worse and Miroku’s hands seem to have multiplied by the number of times he’s been slapped in his life. I came here to get some peace and quiet.” Inuyasha said haughtily as he crossed his arms. He quietly added, “Besides, we were out of ramen.”Kagome began to giggle, much to the hanyou’s annoyance. “If that was all…” Kagome grabbed the sleeve of his coat and drug him down the stairs to the kitchen. Grabbing an old shopping bag, Kagome opened a cabinet door and proceeded to dump as much ramen in the bag as it could hold.Turning, she gave the bag to Inuyasha. He slowly took it from her. Blushing slightly, he turned to leave as he said, “Thanks.” He bounded out of the house before Kagome could blink much less say ‘you’re welcome’.After popping herself a bag of popcorn, Kagome entered the living room and stretched out on the couch as she flipped through the channels. She finally settled on an old samurai movie full of demons and magic.Sota entered the room and after seeing what Kagome was watching, began to laugh. Kagome failed to see the irony of her leaving sengoku jedai to watch a movie based on it at home. Sota quickly left to play some of his video games.Kagome dozed off as the movie continued to drag on. Even in her dreams that melody continued to play.Kagome woke up with a start. She quickly noted she was still in the living room. The TV was turned off and a blanket had been draped over her. Her bowl of popcorn was sitting, forgotten, on the coffee table.Kagome glanced over at the mantle clock and jumped up with a shriek. “I’m going to be late! How could I have slept so long? I have to hurry!” Kagome rushed upstairs and ran into the bathroom. She quickly showered and began to dry her hair.“I don’t have time for anything fancy, but maybe a simple chignon…” Kagome muttered as she raced into her bedroom to pick out her clothes. Glancing at the clock, she increased her already frantic pace. Houjou would be arriving in less than an hour.* Ding Dong * The doorbell went off. Kagome heard her mom say she’d get it. Kagome quickly smoothed her few stray hairs into tendrils to frame her face. This was as good as she could get in the time she had. Taking a deep breath she left her room.Kagome quickly walked down the stairs and into the living room before her family could embarrass her. She stopped in the doorway. She was too late. Ji-chan was on one side of Houjou talking about his duties as a shrine priest. Sota was on the other side asking if he played video games and asking all kinds of game related questions. Kagome’s mother was taking pictures of the three as they waited.Kagome quickly walked forward and after grabbing Houjou’s hand, pulled him out of the room calling to her family she’d be back before dark. As soon as they exited the house, Kagome tried to release Houjou’s hand. He didn’t relinquish his hold on her hand though.“Houjou-kun?” Kagome asked softly looking down at her captive hand. Houjou’s gaze followed hers. Kagome was surprised to see a faint blush appear on his cheeks.“Ano, Kagome-chan… Could we, just this once, pretend to be more than friends?” Houjou asked softly. His head remained lowered but his eyes drifted up to meet her gaze shyly.Kagome had a weird sense of déjà vu as she stared silently at Houjou. Sighing in resignation, she nodded. “But just so you know, only this once. There isn’t anything between us. Understood?” Kagome waited on her answer.“I will never give up on you, Kagome. As long as you just want to remain friends, I’ll respect that, but I will wait for you forever.” Houjou said in a low serious voice. His eyes flared with some extreme emotions, but they were gone before Kagome could recognize them.Kagome shivered again, unable to shake the feeling she’d been through this before. Putting it to the back of her mind, Kagome smiled and asked brightly, “Where to first?”“I had thought a movie followed by a nice dinner, if that’s acceptable for you.” Houjou said. When Kagome nodded her agreement, they walked to the theater. Houjou softly began to hum the song again.“Ano, Houjou-kun?” Kagome waited until she had his undivided attention. It didn’t take long. His devotion was almost as bad as Kouga’s, almost. “Where did you learn that song? It’s been stuck in my head ever since school.”Houjou blushed for a second. He looked away before answering. “It was written a long time ago by one of my ancestors. There is a long tragic love story behind it.” Houjou sent a sideways glance at Kagome, checking her reaction.“Really?!?!” Kagome gushed as she clasped her hands together. “My grandfather said he thought is was written by a demon who lost his love in battle.” Kagome had an idea. “Ano, Houjou-kun?” She leaned in close to the helpless teen.“H-hai?” He stammered, at a loss with Kagome’s sudden change in attitude.“Could we have dinner first so you could tell me the story behind the song? It sounds so exciting!” Kagome continued to lean into Houjou, shamelessly using his weakness for her against him.“Hai.” Houjou replied looking around to see where they were to decide on the restaurant. He quickly led Kagome to a nice, mid-priced one. They got lucky and were seated immediately. After ordering, Houjou closed his eyes as he gathered his thoughts.“Back in the Warring States era, demons were thought to live amongst humans.” Houjou saw Kagome nod and continued. “Supposedly, the ancestor that wrote the song was a demon.” Houjou paused briefly before continuing.“My ancestor was chasing an evil demon who was out to destroy the world through a sacred jewel entrusted to a powerful miko. Through his journeys and many battles with the evil demon, he came to love this miko.” Houjou paused again as he tried to summarize years of history.Kagome shivered as the story rang eerily familiar, like her own journeys back in time. The waiter placing their orders in front of them brought her thoughts back to the present. Neither touched the dishes, as they were totally engrossed in the story.“Due to the dangerous situations they faced, he did not confess his love. He planned to do that after the final battle.” Kagome shivered at the intense look in Houjou’s eyes. He was telling it like he was talking about himself. Kagome mentally scoffed at her odd thoughts as she continued to listen to Houjou’s story.“The day of the final battle arrived. My ancestor and all his allies had discovered the evil demon’s secret hideout. The battle raged on through the day and into the night. Just as dawn was breaking, the evil demon was defeated. Losses were heavy on all sides.” Houjou sighed sadly and looked down. Kagome reached over and covered the hand he had resting on the table with hers.Houjou smiled at her and finished the story. “My ancestor was said to rush to his love’s side. She had been wounded, but bravely fought on. Just as he and the other surviving allies reached the miko, a soft halo of light surrounded her form and she vanished without a trace.”Houjou took a deep breath and exhaled it slowly. “After that, my ancestor was said to have temporarily gone off the deep end. He was mourning her loss. He wrote the song as result of his anguish and heartache.”Houjou finished the story with a small sigh. His eyes focused on Kagome, and he saw she was quietly crying. “Kagome-chan?” Houjou asked softly as he passed her a handkerchief.“I’m all right. That was so sad.” Kagome said as she dried her eyes and wiped her nose. “It was a beautiful story. I must tell my grandfather so he won’t start making up his own stories about it.” Kagome smiled at the thought.Houjou smiled as well, happy that Kagome was happy. The meal passed by in a blur of good conversation. After the meal, they slowly walked to the theater. Houjou told Kagome to pick whatever movie she wanted. It was a toss up between a chick flick and an action flick. Kagome turned to Houjou for the deciding vote. She was surprised when he picked the chick flick. They entered the theater and since they’d already eaten, Kagome only accepted a small soda from the snack bar. They quickly found seats in the middle. As the movie started, Houjou draped his arm over the back of Kagome’s chair. Since it wasn’t touching her, she didn’t say anything. Besides, she HAD agreed to pretend for one day. She quickly became absorbed by the plot of the movie and didn’t notice when Houjou’s arm slid down to her shoulders. Kagome was so caught up in the movie, she failed to notice when Houjou drew her closer to him so she was leaning into his side.As the movie ended and the lights came back on, Kagome straightened, finally realizing her position. She flushed and stammered an apology. “I’m sorry Houjou-kun. I didn’t realize I had leaned on you so familiarly.”“It’s okay, Kagome-chan. I didn’t mind at all. I enjoyed it, actually.” Houjou admitted freely. Kagome’s blush deepened as they stood and slowly left the theater. Kagome unconsciously began to hum the melody of the sad song. Houjou smiled and added his voice to hers as they walked back to the shrine. As they reached the bottom of the steps leading up to the shrine, Kagome turned to Houjou. “You don’t have to walk me all the way up if you don’t want to.” She said softly. She was startled by how good a time she’d had with Houjou. She almost didn’t want their time to end.“I want to.” Houjou said seriously before laughing softly. “Besides, What kind of date would I be if I didn’t see you home properly?”“That’s right. This IS a proper date.” Kagome said softly as they ascended the steps. They walked slowly to her front door. “Would you like to come in for a while?” Kagome asked, suddenly shy.“Umm. I think I’ll pass for now. Maybe some other day?” Houjou asked gazing into Kagome’s eyes.“Hai. My family can be a bit overwhelming like earlier today.” She replied trying to read the message Houjou’s eyes were sending her.Houjou slowly leaned forward, angling his head slightly. His warm lips brushed over Kagome’s once, twice, and a third time before settling firmly over them. Houjou’s hands located and loosely held Kagome’s hips as he gently moved his lips over hers.Kagome was startled by Houjou’s quick kisses before she remembered this was a proper date. Closing her eyes, she didn’t resist as Houjou’s lips settled firmly against hers. His warm hands were lightly resting on her hips. His kiss was very gentle, coaxing almost. With a soft sigh, Kagome gave herself over to the gentle kiss. Her lips moved softly against Houjou’s. He made a small sound as his tongue darted out to stroke her bottom lip. Curious, Kagome parted her lips for him.Moaning, Houjou swept his tongue through the open seam of Kagome’s lips. He explored her mouth thoroughly, enjoying the taste that had long been denied him. When Kagome began to respond to this part of the kiss, he couldn’t help himself. Moaning, Houjou pulled Kagome’s hips fully against his as he twined his flexing tongue with hers.A haze of desire clouded everything except Kagome’s response to him. When Kagome moaned softly in his mouth, he answered her moan with his own. The sharp metallic taste of blood penetrated his mind and taste buds. Houjou quickly grabbed his shredded tatters of control and pulled them tightly back in. He was lucky Kagome still had her eyes shut as he pulled away. His tongue quickly ran over his fangs. How could he have been so stupid as to forget himself like that? Now was not the time to reveal himself! “I’ll see you at school tomorrow, Kagome-chan.” He said gruffly as he hurried away before she could see the changes in him.His keen demon hearing heard her whisper, “Oh shit! What did I do?” before her front door slammed behind her. He shook his head at himself as he sat down on the shrine steps, about halfway down.“Baka! Stupid fool! If she had opened her eyes once, this entire charade would be over and she’d know who you were!” Houjou took a deep breath and slowly rebuilt his disguise. He sighed heavily from the energy he had to exert. His control was too shaky and it had taken more out of him than it should.Standing, Houjou slowly began to walk home dreading what Kagome would say tomorrow. Her temper was horrible after she’d been taken by surprise. That kiss definitely counted as a surprise. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
