Cats and Dogs

Their stay in Sango�s village had been brief;
long enough for her to bury Kohaku and Miroku to perform a proper burial
service, but short enough for the rest of them to get to Kaede�s hut before one
of them fell apart.

Kaede
shuffled around her hut from one person to the next, applying bandages, and
ointments. Shippo pranced around the room serving green tea and getting water
for whoever needed it. Sango was sleeping in a corner with her back to them and
Kilala curled up by her face, sleeping as well. She hadn't said anything to any
of them since they had arrived at her village. Miroku was behind her, leaning
against the wall and keeping his hands to himself. He may be a pervert but he
knew when the time was right for that sort of activity.

Kagome
was tending to Kouga�s wounds with some herbs she�d gathered on the way. He was
still unconscious and in bad shape.

�Child! Leave him be, his wounds will start to heal
with time but yours will not if ye keep bustling about!�

�I�m
sorry Kaede, I�m just worried about him.�

�Ay,
but me thinks the wolf demon would rather have you well when he awakens rather
than exhausted as you now are.�

Kagome
nodded and slowly stood, biting the inside of her cheek at the pain this
caused. She walked over to a futon and laid herself gently down. She was asleep
before her head hit the pillow.

Kaede
shook her head. She glanced at the che dem demon that lay on the hard floors,
and snatched a jar off of her shelf. She knelt down next to Riquo, her bones
creaking with protest. She twisted off the lid of the jar and took out a large,
triangular leaf. Riquo�s nose scrunched up promptly after she did so. Kaede
brought the leaf to the demon�s nose and waved it around for a second.
Immediately Riquo snapped open her eyes and jumped up, scowling in distaste.

�What
the hell is that?! And why were you waving it under my nose!?�

The
old woman sighed, �A perfectly healed demon should not be lying around when
help is needed,� she carefully stood up and handed Riquo the leaf, �use this to
wake Inuyasha please.�

Riquo
held her hand over her nose and looked back and forth between the leaf and the
old woman shuffling about the hut.

�Why
do I have to do it? This thing is killing my sense of smell as it is so why
make me wake him up?�

Kaede
gave her a leery stare before responding, �Because Inuyasha will not use his
temper against ye as he would with me. I cannot have
any yelling in this hut while everyone else is trying to rest. I�m going to the
riverbed to get some more herbs, if ye need anything send Shippo.�

Riquo
shrugged and turned around to kneel next to Inuyasha�s sleeping form. She sat
there staring at him. Kaede had stayed up all night bandaging him and soothing
his open wounds. When she finally mended him as much as she could, she let him
rest so his demon side could do the rest. Riquo reached over and was about to
brush some of his hair out of his face when she stopped. She looked down at the
leaf in her hands and snickered quietly If I touch him he�ll
wake up, and then I won�t get to use this nifty little leaf. She grinned
evilly and reached over to his face again, this time with the leaf in her hand.
She waved it under his nose and his eyes popped open. He pushed her hand away and opened his mouth
to yell.

Riquo
put her finger to his lips and pointed to the five sleeping forms behind her.
Inuyasha looked at them and then glared at her.

�What
the hell did you do that for?!� he said quietly.

�Kaede
asked me to wake you up. She used the same thing on me so don�t feel so bad.�

�Why
can�t she shake us or something? Oh wait, that would be too easy, my bad,� he
scoffed.

Riquo
giggled, �Inuyasha be nice. You know she�s old.�

�Duh,
who doesn�t?�

�Could
you two keep it down?�

Riquo
and Inuyasha turned to see Miroku frowning at them. He stood and stretched out
the kinks in his back. He walked over to them, stepping over Kouga and Kagome.
Riquo looked at him bewildered.

�How
long have you been awake?�

�Couple of hours. I was fortunate enough to enjoy seeing both of
you woken up by that leaf,� he laughed and then stopped as Riquo and Inuyasha
bared their fangs at him growling.

�Eheh,
forgive me.�

Riquo
glared at him then walked towards Kagome and Kouga. She knelt down next to
Kouga and put her hand on his forearm. Miroku began to protest.

�Lady Riquo no! Kaede strictly said for none of us to wake
them!�

�Hush,
monk, he�s already waking.�

Sure
enough, Kouga began to move under Riquo�s touch. He slowly opened his eyes and
flinched against the sunlight that shone through the curtain. He leaned up but
winced as pain seared itself through his entire body. Riquo put a hand on his
arm and back and helped him up so he could lean against the wall. He thunked his head back against the wall and sighed. Inuyasha
walked up and stood in front of him.

�How ya feelin� wolf?�

Kouga
grinned, �Pretty good mutt.�

Inuyasha
gave him a small smile. Kouga chuckled and lifted his hand towards Inuyasha.
Inuyasha stared at it for a minute, and then grasped his hand with his own.
They both looked at each other, speaking with their eyes. All the years of
bickering and fighting were forgotten and a friendship was formed between them.
Riquo smiled at what was taking place before her. She sighed, knowing that this
would make things much easier on Kagome thatthat she could see Kouga without
Inuyasha throwing a fit.

Kouga
released Inuyasha from his grasp. He looked down at Kagome, who was still
sleeping soundly.

�How
is she?�

�She
was up all night taking care of you. Kaede finally got her to go to sleep only
a few minutes ago though,� Riquo leaned forward and patted Kagome, �I still
can't believe how strong she�s gotten since the fight.�

�That
fight changed a lot of things in our lives, some for better, some for worse,�
Miroku flexed his hand, �but never the less, it�s
finally over.�

�Yea
well the jewel still isn't complete,� Inuyasha huffed.

Riquo
waved her hand in a dismissing gesture, �Inuyasha that�s really not a big deal
anymore. It��

�NOT A BIG DEAL?! WE�VE BEEN SEARCHING FOREVER FOR IT AND
SUDDENLY IT�S NO BIG DEAL?!� he hissed.

�INUYASHA! Calm down please! You obviously don�t know
exactly what Kagome can do with her newfound power.�

�No,
obviously I don�t.�

At
this point, both Miroku and Kouga�s interest had been piqued.

�Riquo
what can she do?�

�I
don�t know exactly. All I know is that her ability to gather the shards is even
greater than before. So it�ll be easy.�

Kouga
stood, �If it�s alright with you all, there is something I need to do before we
head out again. I need to go back to my clan for a couple of days.�

�Keh,
go ahead wolf, it�s not like we need you to get the jewel shards.�

Kouga
smirked, �Maybe so mutt, but you need her.�

He
pointed to the sleeping form of Kagome. Inuyasha stared at him for a minute
confused. Riquo snapped her fingers when she realized what he meant.

�You�re
taking her with you?�

�Yes.�

Inuyasha
was about to complain when Riquo yanked his sleeve. She gave him a look that
enlightened the half demon. Inuyasha frowned and looked down at Kagome. He didn�t
like it at all, but he knew Kagome would want this the most.

He
turned his frown to Kouga, �Wolf��

Again
they spoke with their eyes. Kouga understood that although Inuyasha didn�t have
feelings of love towards Kagome, he still cared and Inuyasha understood that
Kouga would do what was best for Kagome.

Kouga
curtly nodded and bent down to pick up Kagome. She stirred in her sleep. Kouga
looked around and spotted Kaede's shelf with all the herbs.

�Riquo,
is there an herb that will sedate her?�

Riquo
dashed over to the shelf and rummaged through them. She sniffed every one and
frowned when it wasn�t the one she was looking for. She cursed under her breath
and walked back over to them.

�Apparently
Kaede likes to keep her patients awake�.there�s nothing there.�

�Damnit,
I don�t want her to wake up on the way there.�

Inuyasha
walked up to Kouga with Kagome in his arms.

�Keep
her still. I used to do this when she refused to go to sleep while I carried
her.�

Inuyasha
reached a hand towards her neck. He moved away her ebony hair and pressed two
claws at the base of her neck where her shoulder met.

Kouga
growled, �Mutt��

�Relax
wolf, this doesn�t hurt her. It�s just a sensitive spot she has that makes her
fall asleep.�

He
pressed his claws harder into the spot on her neck. Just when Kouga thought he
was about to draw blood, Kagome�s breathing evened out again and he pulled his
claws away. Miroku chuckled to himself.

�I
remember that move. She�d pass out instantly every time he did that. Then she�d
wake up and �sit� him to hell and back.�

Kouga
looked her over to make sure she was ok for travel, and then walked out through
the straw door. Riquo and Inuyasha followed him. Miroku went back to sit next
to Sango, Shippo waking up long enough to climb into his lap.

Kouga
looked at the two over his shoulder, �Well, I guess this is goodbye for now.
I�ll see you two in a couple of days. Behave!�

He
started to speed off when Riquo yelled after him.

�KOUGA! HURT A HAIR ON HER HEAD AND IT�S YOUR ASS!!�

Inuyasha
walked up next to her, �I wouldn�t worry too much. Kouga loves her too much to
let anything happen to her.�

�Huh?
You think it�s love?�

Inuyasha
turned to face her and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her against
his chest.

�Yea
I do.�

Riquo
giggled, �I thought we were talking about Kouga and Kagome.�

�Huh?
O yea��

Riquo
laughed and kissed him. She twitched her nose and broke the kiss.

�Inuyasha
that battle seriously did you in. You need a bath.�

Inuyasha
thought about it for a minute and smirked.

�If
I do, you�re coming with me.�

Riquo
smiled seductively and waltzed back into the hut, her tail swishing back and
forth lazily. She stopped at the entrance of the hut and held a finger up,
motioning for him to wait a minute. Inuyasha nodded and she winked at him,
disappearing into the hut. She walked over to Kagome�s backpack and rummaged
through it. She pulled out the jar containing her mango shampoo and then some
regular, unscented soap.

She
walked back out and saw Inuyasha with his back to her. She crept up behind him
and wrapped her free hand around his stomach, leaning against his back. She
smiled as he started to slightly purr. He turned around in her grasp and hugged
her tightly. He held her for a long time, running his claws through her messy
hair.

�Inuyasha? Are you alright?�

�I
was worried.�

Riquo
blinked, startled, �What? What�re you talking about?�

�I
was worried about you in the battle. I thought Naraku was going to kill you.�

Riquo
smiled and kissed his cheek, �It�s ok Inuyasha. I�m
here, I�m in one piece and Naraku is no longer a threat. We can live in peace
now.�

Inuyasha
smiled at her and hugged her again.

�Come
on, the hot spring isn�t that far from here.�

Riquo
grabbed his hand and entwined their claws together. They only went a few steps
though when Inuyasha stopped and looked back at the hut with Miroku, Sango, and
Shippo. Riquo squeezed his hand.

�Something
wrong Inuyasha?�

�I
don�t want to leave them alone. Miroku and Sango are too wounded to take care
of themselves. There�s nothing they can do if someone attacks the village.�

Riquo
sympathized with him. Poor guy�s
�s
still not over the battle yet. She looked around the village and the forest
that surrounded it. She grinned and threw her head back, roaring louder than
ever. Some of the villagers got scared and ran into their houses and others
just stared at her, frightened. Inuyasha tugged on her hand.

�Riquo! What�re you doing!?�

Riquo
stopped and stared ahead of her. Inuyasha looked to where she was staring and
couldn�t see anything. Suddenly he felt several demons present around them. He
put his hand on the hilt of tetusaiga and growled softly.

Riquo
put her hand on Inuyasha�s arm, �Calm down Inuyasha, you wanted someone to
watch over Kaede�s hut, and here they are.�

Several
cheetahs emerged from the forest and walked towards them. They stopped and sat
at R�s f�s feet, awaiting her orders. Riquo began to growl and purr in her
language, pointing to herself, Inuyasha and the hut.
The felines nodded at her and walked past them, taking post all around the hut.
Riquo picked up her things and grabbed Inuyasha's hand, tugging him towards the
hot spring.

�Whoa!
Hang on a sec, what just happened here?�
Inuyasha stopped and turned Riquo around, wanting an answer.

Riquo
sighed, �I�m a part of another cheetah clan in the western lands. Their leader
was an ally to my clan and he thought it only proper to initiate me into their
clan. Since I had a high rank in my clan, I kept it in this clan that I joined
and naturally I can call upon my people whenever they are needed,� Riquo jerked
her head towards the hut, �they�ll watch over the hut for us until we get
back.�

Inuyasha
looked at the group of cheetahs circling around the hut. Two of them went
inside, one sat in the doorway, the other couldn�t be
seen.

�Riquo,
don�t you think we should tell Miroku what�s going on?�

Riquo
chuckled and shook her head, �Nah, Miroku�s smart, he probably knows what�s
going on. Plus, Shippo can translate if there�s any problem. Now come on! I
want to get to the spring before dark.�
