First Rounds

A/N: I'd like to thank everyone for the reviews so far. Though I have to disagree that Yomi isn't an old man, he looks like he is in his twenties and he is a youkai. Actually, Youko Kurama is older than Yomi, they never go into exact age but when they were partners it was said that Youko was the experienced bandit and Yomi basically the wet behind the ears one. So we can only assume that Youko is older than Yomi or they are close in age. So if Yomi is too old for Kagome then Kurama would be also. So I don't like to think of it that way. He's one hot mofo I think. Also, I've seen some valid points on the pairings and have come to my decision. You'll have to wait and read to find out though. Hope you enjoy the next chapter!!

Chapter Ten

Kurama watched as the two walked into the building as the fighters began to make their way to the preliminaries. The groups were seperate some groups having as many as onehundred fighters, all about to clash in one big showdown. He knew his friends would make it through. Except for Chu and Touya, they would likely lose to Yomi. His concern was centered on the child that had made his display of power. Something about that figure had struck a nerve and the child. He had the markings of the Mazaku, he had also resembled Yusuke as well. Was it possible that he was a descendant of Raizen or held some form of relationship to him?

Kurama decided not to watch the fight and follow the pair instead. His curiousity peaked, wanting to see who was under that cloak. The boy had made it clear that it was female, having called her mother. Was it possible that Yomi had lied? What about Koenma he wouldn't have lied. 'Not like you let him speak much, you assumed what his statement had meant.' Was it possible that Koenma had meant something else by his statement. Instead of running to speak to the toddler he would simply confront this person.

He saw the figure going inside and started sprinting. Kuwabara yelled at him as he ran past trying to call him down. "No time, this is important." He had to catch up with them, he had to know. Yusuke must have felt the aura and hadn't thought about the resemblence having accepted their deaths. Kurama cursed when he heard the others running behind him, seeing what was up. He wished they wouldn't, the confrontation could turn out bad.

The pair began to weave through the crowd making it difficult to follow. He was sure that they had picked up speed, did they suspect they were being followed? Minutes later he had to stop as a group of youkai came running in front of them. He waited patiently, not wanting to do anything drastic that they might see as a menacing move. Kuwabara was demanding answers, "Silence please, follow if you must but refrain from talking."

Kurama followed for another ten minutes, keeping behind them. Genkai was beside him now, having felt his urgency. She wasn't sure what was going on but had an idea. It only took one to take a good look at the child. The figure and boy stopped when they came to a locked door. Kurama sighed in relief seeing that they couldn't go any further without facing him. He watched in slow motion as the figure turned on her heels. His heart dropped when the blue eyes met his, "Kagome." He tried to take a step closer and was blocked.

Shura's aura flared causing all the youkai around them to scatter. He'd finished with his opponents to return in search of his mother. He was angry to find her running from the fox. His father had warned him that Yusuke or Kurama may seek his mother out and if they did it might cause her to become upset. He didn't care what is was about, he wouldn't let anyone near her. "I suggest you turn around now and refrain from following my mother. My father may consider you a friend but won't hesitate to kill you if you upset her while in her delicate condition."

"Shura, I suggest you step aside. I won't hesitate on removing you, I will speak to her." Kurama glared back, not backing down. He wanted answers and now. Shura was calling her mother, which meant Kagome had been with Yomi all along. The man had lied to him, why? Her condition? He looked her over then focused on her abdomen picking up a slight presence. So he had taken the girl as his lover. Anger filled him knowing that he had been lied to. Yomi and Kagome had put Yusuke through hell, making him believe they had both died.

"You won't come near our mother," Shippo came down the hall and landed beside Shura. He recognized the other fox but no one else. He didn't have anything against the man but he wouldn't let him upset Kagome. He smiled when Lydon left Kagome's side to join theirs. All three boys stood in front of the woman, blocking her from their view. "Insist on coming forward and you will die."

"Do you think you can take all three of us?" Shura let his energy spike, the other boys followed suit. Everyone but Kurama took a step back feeling it. The only real fighters Kurama and Genkai, no match for the three boys. He picked his energy up, the boys knew his plan. All three knew that Yomi would sense it and know what it meant. "Did you hear that? Father has just suddenly finished up his match. I guess he didn't feel like playing anymore. I wonder what caught his attention."

"Your father can come, it makes no difference. Call him if you must, he will answer to me as well. That bitch you call a mother will explain her actions or pay for what she has done. If you three insist than you will be the first." Kurama let his anger lace his words. He knew it would anger them but didn't expect anything else. He felt the fist land across his jaw to knock him back. The wall gave way behind him, he went crashing into the crowd.

Kagome was standing in front of him, tears streaming down her cheeks. "You can hate me all you want but don't you dare ever threaten my children. I don't care who you are. You may be able to push someone weaker around but you will now learn that it will not be the case with me." She didn't care if it drew attention to herself, she was the mother. It was her job to protect her kids. She focused her power, letting her aura rise. Let every youkai in the damn place know that she wouldn't tolerate threats. She knew she deserved his anger and Yusuke's for not being honest about her pregnancy but that was no reason to threaten her child. They were all innocent of any wrong doing, only wanting to protect her. She watched Kurama get to his feet, anger in his eyes.

"Shura!" Yomi's voice came through the crowd as they parted like the Red Sea to make way. "Take your mother to the room, I will be up shortly. See to it that she calms herself. NOW!" Yomi could smell her tears and feel the many emotions flowing off her. He would kill the fox if he upset Kagome enough to cause problems. He would deal with Kurama and Yusuke, the fox first. The thought of killing his old partner didn't sit well with him but she came first. "Kagome, go with them."

Yomi waited while his son ran to pick the small girl up. They were causing a larger crowd to form. All knowing that Kurama and him were once friends. Seeing the two about to face off was more worthy of attention than the preliminary fights. Most were over already only a few still taking place. Koto's voice was heard announcing Yusuke the winner of his round. Yomi smirked, just what he needed. He knew this would happen when he told Kagome she could come. "You will take your problems up with me, not my mate Kurama. Let it be known that she belongs to me, I will kill anyone that goes near her."

"You lied to me. Just so you could have her to yourself. You have no idea what pain you have caused others. You are heartless, I cannot forgive what you did. I doubt Yusuke will feel the same once he arrives." Kurama could feel him approaching quickly, no doubt having felt the girl's aura. They would get their answers, he wouldn't allow any more lies.

Nothing was said everyone waiting, the two both waiting on the fast approaching aura. The onlookers for some blood, the group of humans for answers. Yomi spoke the second Yusuke got within earshot. "Yusuke, I can't say I'm glad to see you. So will I have to fight both of you? Or will you leave us in peace? Either way is fine with me."

"What the hell is going on Kurama?" Yusuke looked around, his eyes searching for the aura he was sure he'd felt. It had to be hers, who else could have caused it? Something was going on here but what? "Answer me, damnit."

"He lied Yusuke, they are both alive and here. Now, he will kindly tell us why they thought it was okay to mislead us." Kurama wanted to wipe the grin off the man's face. How could he stand there looking happy after everything he'd done? Was having someone to fuck worth ruining someone's life? All these years both had been safe, Yusuke being denied his child.

"I'm sorry, but I believe the only thing Kagome is responsible for is being young and foolish. She admitted to telling you that the child wasn't yours. She had her reasons for lying as did I. The girl was doing nothing but trying to save your marriage. The news of her death was all me, I will admit I didn't think you'd believe it so easily. All these years she has simply believed that you couldn't find her or didn't care to look. I was trying to spare her then as I will now. You will not be allowed near her, you have done enough."

"You bastard," Yusuke saw red, he was going to kill him. "That was my son."

"Father," Shura came running out the busted wall. Yomi turned, the smile left his face. Shura tried to calm down not wanting to show how upset he was. "It's happening again." He'd taken Kagome back like he'd been told but she wouldn't stop crying. She kept trying to come back to where they'd left his father. "She's bleeding just like last time." He felt his father brush past him, running to his mother. He was worried about her but anger made him face the man responsible. "If my sister dies then so do you."

Yomi saw her laying on the floor with Lydon trying to wake her. "Move aside," He picked her up, placing on her on the couch. There was the faint smell of blood, he was glad that she was out. "Who knocked her out?" He could see the bruise begining to form on her face.

"I did, she was getting hysterical. It was causing the bleeding, so I thought it best if she was out. That way she wouldn't be upset." Shippo stared at the ground knowing he'd be punished for striking her. But he hadn't smelt any new blood since he'd done it.

"Allow me to take a look at her please." Genkai stepped inside the rapidly filling room. "Make up your mind quick if you don't want her to lose the child." She waited for him to nod, knowing he was putting his trust in her. He stood up but stayed within reaching distance. The girl was pale, she began to study her and the child. The bleeding had been caused by stress and getting too emotional. A barrier was placed around the kid, it seemed fine. Her brow lifted seeing some tissue damage had been done. "I suggest the next time you sleep with her, you be more careful." She turned to see the man's frown and scoffed. "There is some damage to her cervix, I assume thats what caused it. The emotional stress caused her to contract, tearing the tissue further. She will be fine, just try not to upset her."

Shippo sat on the floor, glad to hear she was going to be okay. He'd been worried, when he'd smelt the blood he'd panicked. He didn't want to see all that again. The last time she'd been afraid and he could remember smelling it on her. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have hit her."

"Don't concern yourself, you saved me from doing it." Yomi let his shoulders drop at hearing the news. He couldn't lose them, he bent down beside her. Not caring that he had an audience, he brushed her bangs aside. He would speak to her when she woke.

"Is momma going to be okay?" Lydon walked up to him, he'd been scared not knowing what to do. Then Shippo had hit her, he'd been mad at his brother. "You should spank Shippo, he punched her in the face."

Shura popped him in the back of the head. "Hush we all know that, don't be a tattletale." He turned towards the fox and other humans standing in the doorway. "If you are going to stand there you can atleast shut the door so the whole world can't look inside."

"Sorry kid," Shizuru shut the door behind her, closing it on several youkai. She knew everyone was waiting for explanations, mostly Yusuke who still looked extremely pissed but was trying to contain his anger. Her eyes fell to the little boy they'd been following. 'So, that's Yusuke's kid. How the hell had that happened?'

"Everyone leave but Yusuke, boys stay close. Shura I'm going to ask you to drop out of the competition. I don't want her alone again is that understood?" Yomi heard him reply, knowing that he would be disappointed but would do as he was told. This had to be taken care of before she woke. He wouldn't have the boy or Kurama starting a fight in front of her.

Yusuke stood still waiting for the door to close softly behind him. His eyes fell on the girl, she hadn't changed in over five years. Had it really been that long since he'd last seen her? He should never had let her walk out that door. When Kurama had told him of her death, he'd also explained the girl's reason for denying him the truth. A part of him understood why she felt the need but it still hurt that she'd done it. It hadn't mattered that she had lied about the child. His marriage had still suffered because of her. It wasn't her fault but his. He'd thought her to be safe with Koenma and the child not his, yet hadn't been able to forget about her. "Wanna give me a good reason why I shouldn't kick your ass?"

"How about it will not help the situation. It will only cause resentment and mistrust between you and the child. Do you think your son will like for his first memory of his father to be attacking the man that raised him? Don't scowl at me Yusuke, it makes you appear childish. I admit I may have been wrong in lying to Kurama. I did it for her, or I told myself that. I know part of it was because I wasn't willing to take the chance of losing her. She was worried about everyone but herself so I took matters into my own hands. The child was all she had, while you had your wife and the possibility of having others with Keiko. She knew she couldn't be around the two of you and not cause pain but at the same time wouldn't be able to give up her child. I won't go into a lengthy explanation, our next matches will be coming up soon. Now that you know the truth I will not try to stop you from taking part in your son's life. I have done the best I could to raise him but have never tried to take your place. He knows I am not his father. After the tournament you can speak to Kagome about working something out. Know that I will not let you upset her, so don't try to take the boy from her. Not that you could, he wouldn't leave his mother. Another warning, take this one to heart. I know you had a night with Kagome, if you try to pursue her in anyway I will take your life. She belongs to me, I will not let you interfere in what we have. Just remember what I said, I don't want her upset. I almost lost her during her first pregnancy, I don't want a reoccurance of today."

Kagome heard the voices speaking over her and moaned. Why did her face hurt? She was going to give Shippo his first spanking. She opened her eyes to see Yomi beside her his head turned. She followed the direction and saw Yusuke standing not far from her. Her breath caught causing Yomi to turn towards her.

"Don't panic, everything will be okay. Look at me Kagome, nothing is going to happen. We will work something out," He placed a hand on her cheek trying to comfort her. He forced her to look at him, running a thumb over her cheek. "Relax, I don't want you getting upset again. Think about the baby, kitten."

Kagome nodded trying to calm down. Atleast they weren't trying to kill eachother. She couldn't bear it if Yomi was harmed because of her. She placed her hand over his taking comfort from the touch. "Where are the boys? Wait why aren't you at your match?"

"They haven't started them yet, I'm sure they will shortly. Are you sure you are up to staying? If you wish I will take you home." Yomi didn't want to leave until he was defeated but would if it would make her feel better. As much as he wanted his dream it would mean nothing if she wasn't with him.

"No, you've been training for this. I could never ask you to quit for me. I'll be okay, I was just upset. If you even think about dropping out, I'll kick your ass myself. Do your best to win, for me." She smiled at his sheepish look, loving his lopsided grin. Whatever happened he would be there for her, she could get through it. Where would she be if he hadn't found her?

"They're calling for me, I better get going. Stay near Shura until I return." Yomi leaned over and gave her a brief kiss across the mouth. He felt the man stiffen behind him at the display. "You can watch the fight from here."

Kagome felt her heart drop watching him leave but willed herself to be strong. She noticed the look that passed between both men. The door opened and a large group was seen standing outside the door. The humans from earlier were all there, Yusuke's friends no doubt. She looked up to meet his eyes to see several emotions cross them. "I'm sorry."

"Don't worry about it, we'll discuss it later. You might want to invite them in before the fight starts." Yusuke felt only a small part of anger towards her. She looked so guilty, it let him know she hadn't lied to hurt him or to be spiteful. He believed what the other woman had told Kurama. He shouldn't have been so ready to believe her lie. Him and Yomi would settle their differences when the time was right. Before Kurama could say anything Yusuke walked out and shut the door closing the others in the room with Kagome. He could understand if Kurama was angry at Yomi but he agreed with the man. He wasn't going to have Kagome suffer anymore.

Yomi stood on the field waiting for the ref. to start the fight. He quickly studied his opponent, his power level was extremely low. Shura could have easily disposed of the man, not worth his time. He couldn't tell what his specialty was yet, he'd wait and see what was in store for him. He stood with his legs slightly parted waiting for it. The ref called the match to begin. He could hear the man's heartbeat.

"I'm glad to finally face a worthy opponent in which to test my new abilities. I am not a fool Yomi, I know there is no way I can compete against your sheer strength. Not to mention your abilities to predict your opponent. Guess being blinded has it's perks. I have studied you, you rely on your improved senses to win. Lets see how you do without them." The man spoke three words.

Yomi swore, he should have killed him swiftly. He'd been cocky thinking the man posed no challenge. "What have you done?" He could feel his body tingling, he was begining to feel weird. He heard the ref getting close, no doubt with the camera and mic so the crowd would know what was happening.

"Simple, I can't kill you if I can't touch you. Feel that? It is a simple incantation to dull the senses that I choose. Most that use this techinique usually go for the eyes, ears and the ability to sense energy. I have dulled all your active senses, everything but your eyes. Why waste power? In seconds you will have no way to find me, you will be helpless. You can accept your defeat now and cower before me."

Yomi scowled as his hearing dulled till nothing was heard, he couldn't sense anything. "Dammit, you will die. I will not accept." He had no choice surely the man would make his move. He wouldn't allow him to do so.

Koto stared at the screen watching the helpless Yomi standing still while the man began to close the distance between them. "I hate to say it but what a shitty way to win. Looks like the former king is helpless not knowing where the attack will come from." She grabbed the edge of the mic, waiting for something to happen. "Will he move in time folks or be speared like a side of beef?"

Everyone watched as the man jumped in the air bringing the weapon down. Yomi brought his hand up, sending a blast straight at the man. "I see you." The man screamed as the green blast struck him across the face and chest, he went flying back into some trees.

"Oh my folks, did I just hear right? Not only has Yomi revealed to us a stunning pair of violet eyes any girl would swoon over. But he can see as well. What a startling turn-about, I love it. Yes, the ref has called it, the winner of this match is Yomi by knock out." Koto called the fight, watching the man look up into the camera.

Kagome let out the breath she was holding, he was okay. What an asshole, trying to win like that. She smiled as Shura cheered for his father. The others around them just stood there, disbelief on their faces.

"Momma," Lydon tugged on her elbow. "What did that lady mean? Why is everyone surprised? Why did that man say he was blind? Is it because he closes his eyes sometimes?"

"Keh, umm well, that's a toughie." Kagome wasn't sure what to say everyone having turned to her. She didn't know these people, what could she say in front of them. It was out that Yomi could indeed see now but she wasn't sure if they needed to know how. It would mean admitting to a few things. Like how she'd gotten the power to cause him to regenerate. "I guess he use to have problems seeing."

"Don't hand us that he was as blind as a bat. How the hell did that happen?" Yusuke turned to his son, watching him caused his heart to ache. The boy looked almost like him, except for the hair. It had some wave to it, that came from Kagome. Would the boy accept him as his father? He could see that the child loved his mother dearly. He'd never think about trying to seperate them.

"He's been able to see for over five years hasn't he Kagome." Kurama bowed his head thinking back now. That day on the roof Yomi had his back turned to him at first. He had been looking up into the sky, thats what had been different. Why his demeanor had seemed more at peace. He had gotten back the one thing he'd lost.

"Yes," She admitted to that, not seeing the point in denying it. "He got his sight back the night Lydon was born." She left out the part about him scaring the shit out of her causing her to go into labor. No need for all that to be said. She could sense him coming back into the building now. The announcers were calling for their friend Hiei and someone named Enki. Shura informed her that he was the first one to win the tournament. She frowned at seeing the difference between the two. Something was wrong with the picture but she couldn't place her finger on it.

Yomi walked back into the room as the next fight began. Kagome blushed when he ended up behind her his hands on her shoulders. He gave them a light squeeze, she leaned back. She let herself relax against him, she heard Kurama ask about his sight. An underlying anger was felt between the two but neither acted on it. She felt bad knowing she was the cause of it.

Her attention went back on the fight taking place not wanting to get upset. As long as Yusuke was able to forgive her and something could be worked out that was enough. She watched Hiei jump around trying to cut the large man. Something in the large man's movements was annoying her. Why the hell did that look so familiar? The small man brought the sword down, it hit the man's chest. The steel broke against his flesh surprising everyone.

"That's new. I didn't know Enki was scratch proof." Yusuke watched with interest now, his mind off his problems. Enki did look different to him. He remembered the man's energy, "Is it possible for someone's aura to change?"

Kagome's eyes widened at the statement, that's what was bothering her. "Get your friend out of there." It hadn't been quite six years since she had last seen it. "Do it, call the fight or he is going to die. I know that aura, Yusuke do it. There is no way Hiei can defeat him. If he loses he's going to be absorbed."

Shippo saw the look on Kagome's face and paled himself. She'd said enough for him to worry, he looked at the man in question. He began to shake in fear realizing what his mother had moments before. "That's Mouryoumaru, isn't it?"
