As always, I don’t own Inuyasha or any subsidiaries within. I am soo terribly sorry for the long overdue post of this story. I am working hard on it as we speak and I will continue to do so, but it will be slow in coming. Thanks to all those who stuck around to read this, though it has been several years and for that I do apologize, but my son was diagnosed with liver cancer and we have been doing chemotherapy and treatment for it since we found out, shortly after I posted the last chapter to this story. Please bear with me, I promise to finish this.
Blood for Blood Chapter 10 Mates, Dates and Personality Traits I step out of the spring with a shocked expression on my face. Shaking my head to clear it of the bumbling thoughts, I quickly turn to Sango and smile beatifically as I see her dubious expression. I still can’t believe she mated Masao! Wow. I mean, what do you say to that when it comes out of nowhere, except, congratulations! Slightly worried that she might have rushed into this mating with the esteemed White Tiger, I give her one of my special appraising looks and see her honest and lovingly patient gaze staring right back at me, almost as though she was expecting this turn of events. One sweep of my aura and I feel every emotion that she would be keeping from me were this not something that she wanted and smile in relief when I feel nothing but love and acceptance for the cat. Smirking at my thoughts, I grin wickedly at her when I also get an overwhelming sense of completion and yearning from her as well. Stifling my giggle, I grab her into a powerful hug and congratulate her on the mating, extremely happy for her, regardless of my reservations. There seems to be little else I could do even if I wanted to, which I don’t. All I have ever cared about is her happiness and now that she has found it, I will ensure that it never changes, protecting her happiness as though it were my own, for the rest of my life. Grinning happily as Sango’s happiness drowns out all the worries and reservations I had, I smile brightly and then help her out of the spring as well. Drying ourselves off, I contemplate the various twists and turns in my life and those of my friends these past years. It seems as though it were only yesterday when I fell down the well some days, others it seems as though it was a lifetime ago. Discovering Sango giving me a curious look, I shake my head of the thoughts that seem never ending. Regardless, I should be happier about this. What is wrong with me? Did I lose so much blood that I need to go lay down??? “Kagome.” Turning sharply at the voice interrupting my thoughts, regardless of how flustered they are, I notice that Sango is standing by the door to the springs, waiting for me to follow. Once again shaking my errant thoughts from my already frazzled mind, I hurry to catch up to the slayer sister I love so much. “Sorry, I don’t know what’s wrong with me. Maybe I’m just tired. I think I might just go lay down.” The curious look she gives me tells me she doesn’t entirely believe me, but I can’t give her any other answer for my preoccupation, so I smile reassuringly in her direction and at the fork in the hallway, go down the opposite corridor. Feeling a desperate sense of foreboding and premonition suddenly, I immediately duck the claws determined to sever my head from my body. Whirling in determination to give as good as I get, I come face to face with the same demoness that was standing guard outside the baths I just left. Face devoid of any emotions, I glare at her menacingly, before conjuring a powerful barrier around my form. Shrinking it to lay upon my skin like velvet steel, I give her a ‘come hither’ look, hoping I won’t be disappointed. Truth be told, I sensed her hostility the moment she was summoned to the Queen’s chambers, but thought nothing of it, as I knew I would not be easily accepted by all of the demons in the Clan. Sensing her movement before I can react more than to flare my aura, she advances on my position, obviously not scared of my power or my abilities. Determined to use her as an example of what will happen should I be crossed, regardless of the circumstances, I close my eyes and summon a large ball of power into my waiting palms. She hesitates for a moment, as if trying to decipher what I will do next, I smirk broadly, ready for the paltry challenge that one such as she will be. Her right arm slashes toward my barrier with deadly intent, but before she even comes within an inch of it, her arm begins to sizzle. Snarling in rage at the sudden pain, she grasps the now limp appendage with her other arm and her eyes flash red. Her youki sparks along my nerve endings as it disperses after a moment and in her place is a demon wolf, the look of death in her black eyes a promising end, but I only feel my own hackles rise at the insinuation that she is more powerful than I. Growling low, I disperse my reiki and in a moment, the youki within me also rises to the challenge. A stray thought that this youki should not be a part of me because I was supposed to have already purified the beast within, flickers across my consciousness, but I put my fear aside for other more entertaining matters. I will worry about that after I have finished with this one. The demoness watches carefully as the ‘hybrid’ before her disperses her reiki. The thought that she is backing down to her superiors dies before fear blooms as the most unexpected change occurs. The hybrid’s eyes begin to pink and the paltry threat of before seems to get far greater as her youki, that which she was supposedly too powerful to be swayed with, comes forth with the beast that should have been dead, if the rumors were true. Eyes widening in shock as the priestess, hybrid, thing before her begins to morph into another form altogether, the demoness is shocked speechless when she comes face to face with a very real threat and something that she isn’t even remotely prepared to face alone. Taking a hesitant step back, her elongated snout rises from the ground to taste this new scent. The power pulsing in the air and surrounding the hybrid before her, is something that was foretold many eons ago, when the first of the blood demons came to this continent, but she sniffs delicately to be sure. This cannot be what the prophecy foretold when it mentioned the greatest blood demon to come. Surely there was some mistake, but looking upon the wolfish creature with curiosity and fear, the demoness realizes her folly. The creature before her may be hybrid, but the power so easily contained within it was by far more powerful than any Queen she had served in all her centuries of living. Whining softly in the back of her throat, she bares her neck to the powerful being in hopes of forgiveness. Had she known then what she knew now, she would not have been so foolish as to believe herself superior. The powerful being stalked closer and woofed sharply in her ear, but she dared not move. There was a clear warning in the beings’ tone that should she make any sudden movement, her life would be forfeit. Trembling slightly as her apprehension warred with her instinct to run, she stayed perfectly still as the being sniffed her delicately before snorting slightly. A low growl echoed in the long corridor as another demon turned the corner to come face to face with something from legend. Fear skated upon his spine as he felt the reiki and youki in the air, concentrated into the magnificent being before him. Truly, if this was the priestess he had seen in the hall after the gauntlet was run, then the Blood Clan would be forever strong under her rule! Bowing in respect to the demon creature that looked to be a mix between a white and silver wolf, the demon slowly began to walk backwards, clearly not a threat. As soon as the being looked back to the cowering demoness in front of it, the unnamed blood demon ran as fast as his demon blood would allow, toward the throne room. The Queen must be told! Bursting through the doors and wincing at the deadly intent in the eyes of his Queen, the blood demon, Toshi, told of his surprising encounter with a magnificent demon being in white and silver markings, looking as though it were ready to rend the demoness before it to shreds. The look of shock and awe on the Queen’s face was short lived, however, as she immediately transformed into the magnificent Onyx Wolf rarely seen in the castle, as she ran as fast as her legs would carry her to the unknown power source in the vicinity. ‘Surely it couldn’t be the priestess, could it?’ How could it be possible and what does this mean for the future if it is?’ Thoughts leaving her as soon as she comes upon the majestic being herself, the Queen’s eyes go wide with dawning understanding and awe. The white wolf was the most beautiful creature she had ever seen. It sensed her approach and was looking at her with a curious expression upon her arrival, but she could only stand there in shock. It growled low at her obvious interruption of its rightful prey, and so in deference to it, she bowed low in respect to the powerful creature before her. ~Allorial, you are well?~ Shocked beyond anything that she could have imagined, she replied to the mind speak only those of great power could produce in their Clan. ~I am well, thank you for asking Priestess. Tell me, what has brought about this change, though I find it a truly magnificent turn of events.~ A snuffling snort met her words and the Queen determined it to be a laugh from the powerful being before her. ~Indeed. The cowering bitch before you attacked me from behind and I felt the need to teach her a lesson in respect. When my reiki did nothing to deter her from a quick death, I thought to give her something else to worry over. In the demon realm, there are far worse things than the threat of purification.~ Nodding her head in understanding, the Queen stood then, with her head held slightly lower than the being before her, in respect for her superior power. ~Come now Allorial, you are still the Queen of this realm, do not lower yourself to bow before anyone. You should be above such things. Had I deemed you a threat to me, this conversation would have been forgone to fight for the right to lead the Clan. However, since you have recently appointed me heir to the throne, no such fight for dominance need take place. Relax and stand before me as the proud Queen I know you to be!~ The voice being projected into her mind getting progressively louder as the sentence ended, the Queen winced at the sound, before breathing easier. Nodding her head once, she dispersed her youki and stood before the cowering demoness and the White Wolf in all her fuchsia silks once again. “Talia, I am thoroughly disappointed in you. What made you think you could take on the priestess Kagome and live?” The youki of the demoness dispersed as quickly as it began and in its place, the demoness stood her ground, head bowed in shame for her actions. “I cannot answer with anything but remorse as I have seen the error of my ways. I assumed that because she was merely a hybrid, her power would not be great enough to bring us into the next century and the Clan would fall. I thought that if I could kill her, it would show you that she was not the right choice for the throne.” Bowing her head in submission to the growling White Wolf before her, the demoness continued. “I did not realize that she was the legendary White Wolf the Seer foresaw all those centuries ago. Had I known, I would not have attacked as the power of the White Wolf was foretold to be far greater than any other Queen before it.” The White Wolf looked deep into the eyes of the demoness who had attacked most dishonorably from behind. Though her actions were deplorable, the fact that she had been concerned for the safety of the Clan and the future prosperity of its members, would stay her hand this day. ~Be grateful I know what your true intentions were Talia, as had Allorial arrived a moment later, your head would have been severed from your body for your disrespect, had the inclination not ebbed. Regardless of your actions, your true intent was the protection of the pack, the Clan, in this your determination is admirable. I may have a use for you yet.~ Eyes widening in disbelief she would be spared for her crimes against the fabled White Wolf, the demoness bowed her head in obeisance, while silently vowing to repay this life debt with or without the knowledge of the powerful being before her. As if sensing her determination to prove herself worthy of the mercy she was being shown, the White Wolf let out a throaty chuckle, before nodding it’s majestic head indicating the silent vow had been accepted. Truly this was an all powerful demoness if she could read minds as well! The strength of the Clan would only continue to grow and their survival was assured under her rule! Heart pounding at the sudden revelations, Talia turned to stand three steps behind and to the right of the White Wolf, silently waiting for anything her Lady would require of her. As if sensing the large amount of youki in the air, the next blood demon to turn the corner was none other than Velenor. His dark eyes, glowing brightly in the dim hallway, widened in disbelief and wonder at sighting the White Wolf from the legends of their Clan. The majestic head of the creature turned to face him the moment he came around the corner and nothing could have prepared him for the discovery that the being before him was Kagome. Growling, feral in his intent, Velenor let his youki gather around him before transforming into a majestic creature of legend as well. His great maw filled with razor sharp teeth, he stood only inches taller than the White Wolf he had only ever dreamed of appearing. His long black fur, from his mother’s side, glistened in the light to give him a more otherworldly glow, accentuating his masculine body and powerful muscles. The White Wolf had since turned her majestic magenta eyes toward his own and the shiver that skated down his spine was a pleasant experience, though frightening at the same time, his instincts screaming at him to bow to the superior force of this gorgeous being before him. He began to stalk the creature before him, intent on getting closer to the delicious scent of her, desperate for some much needed comfort from the being who was to be his mate, if he had anything to do about it. Stopping abruptly at the warning growl being issued from the demoness before him, he turned wary eyes to his mother, in hopes that she would understand why his chosen wouldn’t let him approach. ~My little one, you are magnificent in this form as all your others. I am humbled that you chose me to be your mate. Come to me, let me show you what it feels like to be one with the nature you hold in such high regard.~ Growling again, this time adding a snarl into her own warnings, the White Wolf answered the creature before her. ~You think to take me to mate Velenor? Have you the power to dominate me? Truly you are ignorant if you believe I would so easily submit to one such as you. As the miko Kagome has not decided whether she will mate you or not, I will not let you take that decision from her. Should she accept you, I will bow to you as my mate, but no sooner. Now, before I lose patience with you, leave me and never again attempt to sway me with a paltry show of power. There is another that holds her interest. Whomever can capture the heart of the miko within, will be the most powerful demon in the world. As it stands, it has yet to be decided if that will be you. Be gone from my sight.~ Allorial grinned in appreciation for the way she handled her son. Regardless, the decision to mate was Kagome and her beasts decision. If she chose another outside of the Clan to be her King, only those who could defeat him in battle could hope to gain her favor. She would be a great Queen, the greatest in the long line of Matriarchs dating back for centuries. ~Allorial, take your son with you when you return to your chambers. As this is my first transformation, I am loathe to release my youki; I tire of being confined within her soul, though she is a powerful creature indeed to house one such as myself. Go now, I have an important message that must be delivered personally and I am itching to discover all my abilities.~ Nodding her head in affirmation that she understood, Allorial glared meaningfully at her son before turning and heading back toward her throne room. Soon, she would be just another blood demon, but she still had a few things that needed to be completed before relinquishing her crown. ~Talia, take heed my warning, tell no one of my transformation as I have plans for those who would try to over throw me. I wish to see their terror when I take my true form to battle, though they cower just as easily with the power the miko displays. Go to my chambers and ready my outfit for the banquet tonight, as you have just become my Lady in waiting. On your way, inform Sango of her new position in the Clan and bring her with you to my chambers. You may disclose my transformation to her, as she is the sister to my soul, but no other must know until it is time. The two of you will be second in command only to me, this is indeed a high honor. Do not fail me.~ Nodding once to show she understood her instructions, the demoness Talia bowed in both pride and honor to the superior being before her. She would guard her with her last breath, should the need ever arise. Solidifying the silent vow she made earlier, Talia reinforced her convictions with the knowledge that she would be the right hand to the most powerful Blood Demon in the history of their clan, second to none save the demon slayer, who was also a formidable opponent. The majestic being standing in the dimly lit hallway lifted her great maw and breathed deeply before concentrating her youki once more. A bright magenta light suffused her being and then she flew out of the Clan entryway into the waiting sunlight, in orb form, toward someone who desperately needed her interference at the moment. The slowly increasing feeling of dread encompassing her being morphed to ill concealed rage when she felt the youki of the one she sought, dangerously depleted. Dispersing her youki once more, the White Wolf looked upon her surroundings in disgust. An ambush to kill the most powerful demons alive, one at a time, seemed to be the plan of the creatures before her. Standing in a circle around the powerful Dog Demon of the West, stood twenty of the strongest priests and priestesses she had ever encountered, aside from Kikyo and herself. Their power glowed brightly in the afternoon light and it made the powerful demon lord glow that much brighter in the face of possible extinction. Shocked that he must have been caught off guard, as otherwise such as this would never have happened; the White Wolf snarled loudly at the surrounding monks and miko’s struggling to contain the awesome force of his aura. Glazed blood red orbs looked to her as the sound of her displeasure was made known. The resulting shock and awe she felt coming from the powerful being before her, skated down her spine in something resembling a caress. Shivering under the weight of his stare and the powerful feelings this being provoked in her, she took action as the monks and miko’s began to circle her, surrounding both she and the demon lord in what looked to be certain death. ~Sesshomaru, what has become of you? Would you so easily lay down your life? I had such high hopes for you my lord, do not disappoint me now.~ The feel of her voice inside his weary mind was a caress of understanding and power. The emotions such a simple action provoked inside him were astounding in their intensity and his beast no longer lay docile, but shredded the chains containing it, before surging forth. The powerful youki accompanying the change, had the White Wolf grinning feral as the full weight of the beasts stare before her bore into her own magenta gaze. ~What makes you think that this Sesshomaru would let such inferior creatures as these paltry humans defeat him? Regardless, I would know these hopes you speak of. Many a demoness has tried and failed to ensnare me, what makes you any different?~ His haughty tone only proved to spark her interest as she growled low, a clear indication that they could talk later, as these ‘paltry humans’ were beginning to chant again. Focusing on the problem at hand, the White Wolf shook her mane with haughty indifference to their chants. Nothing so pathetic as these creatures before her had the power to destroy her, so she upped the ante. Releasing her reiki as the power of the monks and miko’s continued to grow, the resulting glow was blinding, as the humans began to fear at the strength of power the White Wolf, glowing a magnificent mauve as the reiki and youki within battled for dominance, continued to gain strength. Creating a powerful barrier surrounding the two magnificent demons, the monks and miko’s were unable to break it. Calling upon the powers they believed themselves privy to, the monks gathered their talismans and the miko’s gathered their sacred arrows and sutras to once and for all, put these two powerful demons to rest. Each holy item glowing with the strength of the purity each holy man and woman possessed, the light show was amazing as the entire clearing glowed with the strength of their combined auras. Unfortunately, it became glaringly obvious whose power was greater, as the trinkets containing holy power began to combust with the combined power of the monks, miko’s and the White Wolf. Soon, all that was left surrounding the pair of powerful demons, were twenty of the province’s powerful holy men and women, laying in a heap of spent power before the two all powerful demons. Releasing the reiki and youki she had called forth to rid Sesshomaru of his problem, the White Wolf turned laughing magenta orbs on the still wary form of the demon lord before her. Apparently, he didn’t trust her as his wariness grew with every second that passed. Raising a brow in obvious amusement at his expense, he growled low in warning. Purring in obvious enjoyment of his predicament, the wolf once again haughtily shook her mane and flicked her tail, before stalking with purpose, out of the clearing and into the surrounding woods. Looking coyly over her shoulder with interest in her gleaming orbs, she growled again, this time with more feeling, as she purposefully swished her tail to taunt the demon before her. Growling low in his throat at the audacity of this female, he stalked after his prey, determined to teach the haughty bitch a lesson in respect to her betters. It mattered little that she had interfered in something that could have been extremely painful. The bitch needed to know her place. Turning around a large copse of bushes, his eyes widen in disbelief as he stares with wonder at the white wolf. Glistening in the light of the sun, the silver and white fur encasing her form, slick with the water from the lagoon she lounged in, gave this demoness an even more otherworldly glow. Her laughing magenta eyes looked at him expectantly as she rolled in the water before submerging herself and disappearing beneath the crystal blue water. Losing sight of her and narrowing his eyes as the aura of the bitch suddenly ceases to exist, his low snarl of fury is quickly silenced as she reappears before him, her laughing magenta eyes mocking in their intensity. The audacity of this bitch knows no bounds! Narrowing his eyes in fury, his low growl of warning to stand perfectly still, is heeded as the wolf sits before him, her laughing eyes still trained on his powerful form. He stalks around her slowly, expecting to smell her fear as he stops at her unprotected back, but only scenting her amusement at his expense. Snarling loudly, he lunges forward to force a submission out of the bitch for daring to interfere where her presence was not required, only to discover she has shifted, and is still sitting as she was before, only ten feet away, across the water she was enjoying upon his entry into this small clearing. Growling at her disobedience, he takes a deep breath, intent on melting her with his poison gases for her disrespect, when her scent, at first only very faint and now much more powerful, makes his head spin. Something about this scent is both familiar and makes his hackles rise at the same time. Narrowing his ruby eyes into dangerous slits, he once again growls at her in warning when she rises from her sitting position. Woofing sharply as she continues to make her way toward his position without regard for his clear warnings, he crouches in wait. If this bitch will not submit to her betters, then she will be punished. Eyes alight with mirth and her obvious enjoyment at his expense, the words that caress his mind stop him cold, before her eyes turn cold and unfeeling. ~You are absolutely no fun, Lord Stick up his Ass! To think she would have gone so far to get you alone is beyond me. The miko is truly delusional if she thinks she could be happy with you. I for one, will not allow her to be the bitch mate to a stuck up dog like you.~ Snarling his fury at being addressed as such, he makes no further attempt to stop her as she continues to approach. ‘The miko? Could this be the change I scented in her earlier? Is it even possible?’ The white wolf stops in her tracks when the oppressive youki in the air lessens considerably and she turns to find that the demon lord is now right next to her position. Taking a step back in surprise that he was able to sneak up on her so easily, she growls a warning at his close proximity. Grin feral with a mouth full of razor sharp teeth at her reaction to him, he stalks forward, intent on determining whether his suspicions have merit. Stalking toward the wolf with a gleam in his ruby eyes, he watches in satisfaction as she swiftly narrows her eyes before stiffly awaiting the coming inspection with suspicion lighting her magenta orbs. He circles her position using all his senses to determine the underlying scent of the power just below the surface in this creature before him and what is revealed is something he would never have believed possible if he didn’t sense it himself. Somehow the miko had transformed into this magnificent creature before him, with vast amounts of untapped power running through her veins. ‘How?......’ ~Tell me miko, how did this transformation come about?~ The slight widening of her eyes is the only indication that she is surprised by his question, but she apparently determined there would be no harm in taming his curiosity, as he once again felt the gentle caress of her voice in his mind. ~Several months ago, the miko and her tachi were attacked in the middle of the night. The blood demon, Velenor, was only after the miko, therefore he placed a sleeping herb over the others to ensure there would be no interference and then began to stalk his prey. Unfortunately, she woke before he could catch her unaware and fled the clearing in hopes of drawing him away from her friends. She could not have known she was the true target; otherwise the night might have ended differently. Regardless, she ran for some time and then stopped abruptly in a clearing much like the one she abandoned when Velenor appeared before her. She fought valiantly for one so young, but was no match for him. He turned her that night and then deposited her back into her sleeping bag. She woke the next morning to her companions crying over her. The monk of her group explained that only moments before she woke, he had witnessed her soul departing her body. She had many deep lacerations in her skin from the fight the night before with the demon and they assumed she had bled to death. It was later in the day when it was discovered that her soul had not left her body after all and had in fact, been strengthened by her encounter. It was only minutes after this discovery that you arrived.~ His brief nod of understanding is the only indication given that he is even listening to her story, but before she can get irritated with his attitude, he speaks. ~What happened next miko? I would know how you transformed.~ Lifting a brow in distaste for his pompous attitude, she concedes to relating more details at the flutter she feels in her soul. Apparently, the miko Kagome wants this demon lord to understand her. Hmph…. ~It is quite simple. What flew away from her body that morning was the youki you see before you. It was simply too great to be contained within her small body. Though her soul is far stronger than any other mortal before turned, the miko energy she contained within her warred with the youki trying to take root within her instead. As you know, they are two separate and opposite powers, therefore it is only natural that one tried to destroy the other. What is miraculous is the fact that the miko, however unconsciously, willed the two powers to take root within her and have equal amounts of control of her soul; thereby allowing my youki to take root, peacefully. The result of said placement of my youki and her miko energy, is what you see before you. Because our two distinct entities are no longer warring with each other, I can use the miko energy harnessed within this soul when it is needed, just as easily as the miko energy contained could use my youki. It was only after the miko’s unconscious acceptance of my youki, that I was able to fully absorb the youki I had let escape her body early that morning. Since then, if the miko had needed my assistance, I would have taken control of our shared soul and used it to ensure our continued survival, but the miko is a very quick learner and has mastered the miko abilities she has never before been able to contain within herself with any amount of success. It was this mastery of her abilities that made her able to tap into the youki within. The equal balance of youki and miko energy has created a completeness that has never before been possible. She would not have been able to transform into my true self without the ability to control the outcome and the energy expended. ~ The blazing ruby eyes of the Demon Lord before her, stared transfixed upon her magnificent brow for a time, likely trying to consume every detail and analyze it, before speaking. Content to wait for his response, she sat before the great Demon Lord and began to groom herself. It didn’t take long before he grew impatient with this however, and it only took a moment longer before he let the she-demon know how unacceptable her behavior was. Growling low in his throat, his hackles raised at the blatant disrespect of the She Wolf before him. Regardless of her majesty in this form, she was not his equal! She would learn her place and it would be his great pleasure to teach her that valuable lesson. His beast purred in contentment of this decision and with a sudden burst of youki, he transformed into the great white dog, his true form. Snarling loudly for all to hear, he lunged at the she wolf before she could react, or at least that’s what he thought. Before he could snap his great maw around her neck to force her submission, she disappeared from sight, only to reappear off to his left. Again he snarled and whirled, determined to show her who was Alpha, but before he could catch her again, she seemed to dissipate and reappear once again off to his left. Instead of getting frustrated, he began to realize a certain pattern to her movements. Discerning the next movement she would make, the great white dog seemed himself to dissipate in the air. One second he was clearly visible and the next he pounced on his prey. They landed with his deadly fangs on her throat, she on her back and he on top of her. The she wolf growled low in her throat, but it came out sounding more like a purr. ~It took you a great deal longer than I would have thought to figure out my movements, my lord. Perhaps you are getting senile in your old age?~ Her laughing magenta eyes continued to taunt him as he snarled at the insult, his ruby eyes narrowing dangerously. ~You, bitch, need to learn your place!~ Growling low in her throat in warning, her magenta eyes flashed in warning as her rebuttal sounded loud in his mind. ~Whose bitch would you be referring to? Certainly not yours, you overgrown fleabag! You know nothing of emotions other than rage and hatred! You could not possibly ever feel anything other than those feelings! The miko is delusional if she feels anything else could be forthcoming in one such as you!~ ~Bitch!~ Feeling her reiki rise to uncomfortable levels, Sesshoumaru released his hold on her throat and removed himself from her presence. Stepping back, more in surprise than anything else, his ruby eyes widened in surprise when the white wolf shot to her feet with such force that the ground rumbled beneath them. Glaring hatefully at the dog demon before her, the White Wolf woofed sharply to get her point across. ~Take heed my warning dog! You will never be my equal in strength or spirit! The miko might have a soft spot for you in her somewhere, but I am sure I can make her realize her folly. You are not worthy of her clean spirit and her loving nature. She would wither away and die with your filth surrounding her! I will make you rue the day you thought you were my superior!~ A feral snarl ripped through the clearing as the last of the she wolf and her anger dissipated. Forming into a magenta orb of light, she shot into the North, toward the Blood Clan and their leaders. Snarling in refusal of her words and her escape from him, Sesshoumaru dispersed his youki in a moment and calmly walked in the direction he was heading before the foolish priests and priestesses thought to finish the Great and Terrible Lord Sesshoumaru of the Western Lands. His beast snarled in his mind, taking immediate offense to the fact that they were not following the bitch back to her lair so he could teach her the proper respect. Sesshoumaru smiled wickedly to himself, the She wolf gave him much to ponder this day. He would have her if for no other reason than she refused him, regardless of his feelings on the matter. ~Patience beast, we shall see the miko again, much sooner than she thinks.~ Whining pitifully in the back of his mind, the beast replied. ~Fool! If that was truly the miko before us, we have forever gained ourselves a powerful enemy in her beast. She will not allow us near her counterpart in the future! How are we to get close to her again?~ Sesshoumaru sighed in his mind, truly having his beast take an interest in the once human miko in the first place was his first mistake. Really, he should have known better! The disgust rolling through him that his beast was interested in a human miko, was only tempered by the laughing magenta eyes that flashed before his eyes, along with the beautiful coloring of the She Wolf as she first appeared in the spring. Truly, she was magnificent! If she was the demon half of the miko’s soul, perhaps all was not lost. That simply remained to be seen. Deciding that walking to his fortress in the Western Lands was taking far too much time, Sesshoumaru shifted to orb form and flew across the lands as quickly as possible. There was much work to be done…… @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Kagome landed outside the doors of the Clan’s keep, nodding her head to the two demon guards standing out front. They nodded their heads in return and opened the doors for her. Moving quickly, she traveled the many halls until she found her room, deep within the keep, a short way from the Queen’s chambers. Opening her doors, she smiled to herself as she saw Sango and Talia sitting in the living area, sitting together on the chaise lounge that sat across from her large silk covered bed. The room itself was decorated in deep burgundy and lighter shades of red and mauve. The colors shifted to a soft pastel pink as the pillows surrounding the bed were revealed. The deep burgundy sheets were a stark contrast to the onyx flooring and walls. It would have been nearly too black for her taste, had the lighter colors of the reds and pinks not been interspersed throughout the room. The chaise lounge was a lighter pink with burgundy pillows and a ruby red throw over the side, to ensure she did not catch a chill on cold nights. There was a large walk in closet, in which she could clearly see many expensive gowns and shoes to showcase her toned legs, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Turning toward the other end of the room, she could see another door that led who knows where, but upon closer inspection was discovered to be her own personal hot springs, much the same as the Queen’s, just not quite as large. Neatly behind the door to her chambers, was a large ornamental mirror set into a large dressing table, differing colors of what looked to be makeup and perfume littered the top. Taking all this information in one quick perusal of the room, she quickly turned her sights back to her soul sister and lady in waiting. “I’m glad you’re both here. There is much to be done and so little time to do it in. Sango, I would very much like to take a bath and then get ready for the banquet tonight. I have a feeling I will need to be refreshed before it begins.” Sango nodded her head in complete understanding and stood to help Kagome gather her things for the bath. Talia, meanwhile, stood there feeling terribly out of place until Kagome spoke. “Please join us Talia. I would like us to get to know each other better. We might have started on the wrong foot, but it does not have to end that way. I would like us to eventually become friends.” Talia’s shock at the words out of the miko’s mouth was quickly replaced with gratitude and thanks. Nodding her head once, she accepted her ladies words without question. She had a vow to fulfill after all. Kagome quickly shut the door and proceeded to the bathing chamber. She needed to clear her mind after what had happened earlier today. It was almost like a dream state. She could clearly remember everything that happened and on some level, she even knew it was her that the things from earlier had happened to, but it was disconcerting at the same time. Seeing things through the eyes of the beast she was not supposed to have retained was different. Everything was so much more defined. The colors more vivid, the smells much more pungent, the sounds nearly deafening, it was just a lot to take in at once. She knew she could handle it, it hadn’t been long, but so much had changed in the last few months, that really, this was the least of her problems. If nothing else, her beast was persistent in keeping her alive, of which she was eternally grateful. If only, she could help her better understand Sesshoumaru. The feel of his body on hers from the hot springs not long ago flashed through her mind suddenly and she felt a deep aching need begin in her core from the sight. It simply wasn’t fair that he could make her feel this way when she didn’t seem to have an effect on him at all! Huffing in frustration and irritation, Kagome approached the springs with a sense of serious satisfaction, when she realized just how big they were. The spring was about the size of the whole upstairs at her home in the future. There were several levels to the springs, each lower than the last. The shelves opened into many lounging areas, so that several people could lay back and relax in the healing water, at the same time. The smell of the springs seemed to instantly calm the miko’s raging emotions and looking back to Talia and Sango, she smiled brightly, willing to forego the frustration in favor of a long dip in the springs with the sister of her soul and her new ladies maid. Stripping quickly and entering the springs with a loud moan of appreciation, the miko looked back at the others, with a sense of amusement as they both looked at each other apprehensively, before quickly undressing and joining Kagome. Sliding into the springs and taking refuge on a long shelf that covered her to her shoulders, Sango looked to Kagome with wonder in her eyes. After hearing what Talia had told her had happened that very morning, she was both worried and awed at her soul sister. Talia’s entering of the spring, made her snap out of her thoughts to glance over and watch as she settled herself on a shelf opposite her own. She could see from the posture of her demon counterpart, that she was nervous with the new arrangement. Smiling in encouragement, she saw Talia relax slightly, then tentatively smile back. Apparently, she had been concerned about her welcome, considering the events that had taken place only hours before. Kagome, seeing the exchange, could only smile as she realized that they would likely become friends. Clearing her throat, she got their attention and then smiled at both of them before speaking. “I know that this is probably not altogether comfortable for all of us, but we need to set aside our differences from the past and focus on the future. I will need both of you to ensure my ascent to the throne is unchallenged when the time comes. You will be my eyes and ears in the Clan, to notify me of any lingering doubt from our fellow clan members. I intend to announce my acceptance of becoming heir at the banquet tonight.” The surprise on Sango’s face, from her complete turnabout in regards to her ascension was not unexpected, but she felt the need to explain herself so her sister would understand. “I now understand that the youki that had tried to escape after my attack, was reabsorbed after my acceptance of the circumstances. I have come to realize that I would be best suited to lead this clan when Allorial retires. The beast and I have come to an understanding of our strengths and weaknesses and thus we both believe that to lead this Clan is the only option.” A husky chuckle in her mind, told Kagome that her beast agreed with her decision to lead. She smiled at the thought that she had another voice in her head, but determined to contemplate that idea on another day, when she wasn’t so short on time. Sango was looking at Kagome during her internal exchange and noticed immediately that she was likely conferring with her beast. She nodded at this and smiled to herself as well, realizing that Kagome was still the sister of her soul, regardless if she had another piece added to her. Talia watched this exchange with wonder and appreciation, knowing internally that she had made the right choice in vowing to protect her Lady. She was powerful indeed if she could contain the awesome youki of her beast. The White Wolf was legendary in their Clan. They all had been waiting centuries for the appearance after the Seer so many years ago had proclaimed her arrival. The proclamation that the White Wolf would appear when the Clan needed her most and would reign supreme in the land was certain, as this had been foretold. She wondered if the remaining part of the premonition would come to pass as well. All members of the clan had memorized the specific details of the premonition from the Seer, to ensure that if she were seen in their many travels, the reigning Queen would be notified, thus setting into motion the plans that had been taking root for centuries. “The White Wolf will be strong indeed, her power surpassed by none. Only one will be her equal, but her heart will be a land divided if she cannot overcome her past and fully accept her power. Two will vie for her affection, only one has the power to succeed. Truth of heart will be the key to unlocking her full potential. One power within the fold and one power from lands unknown will determine the future of the Clan. Her choice will be decided when two become one. The power of the White Wolf and her chosen will be untold and unmatched. The Clan will thrive under their rule. Only Fate can determine what the future brings……..but should the White Wolf remain divided in body and spirit, she will fall, bringing destruction upon us.” Knowing that the premonition was both a blessing and a curse, Talia felt the need to impart her wisdom, lest the past repeat itself and the Clan war within its ranks, like so many years ago. There had been another powerful leader nearly three centuries ago and it was because of this powerful Queen, that their Clan had been threatened. Almost all the Blood Demons of the Clan had been destroyed when the Queen made a powerful enemy and did not have the power to eliminate the threat by herself. They had eventually overcome the powerful foe, but not before many losses on both sides had been accrued. With the White Wolf leading their Clan, the past would never again repeat itself. Clearing her throat, Talia interrupted the conversation between her Lady and Sango. Both looked at her expectantly and waited for her to say what she needed to, with encouraging smiles on their faces. Talia, seeing this silent encouragement, spent the next few minutes explaining the past of the Blood Clan, something that every monarch should know, and then proceeded to tell her Lady about the prophesy. Seeing the looks of apprehension on both their faces when she finished, she grimaced and hoped that the information imparted had not made her Lady angry. Getting over her shock, Kagome saw the look of fear at being punished for the information cross Talia’s face. Immediately, she set about remedying this. Her Lady in waiting should never fear that she would be punished for doing what was needed. “Thank you for the information Talia. I appreciate you explaining everything that I need to know before ruling the Clan. In future, do not fear reprisal for this. You are doing your job and aiding me before I rule the Clan. Your wisdom and insight will always be welcome, as I value your opinion.” Talia blushed becomingly at the praise and bowed her head in acceptance of the compliment. She was already looking forward to what the future would bring being the Lady in waiting for Kagome. Grabbing some oils and a clean cloth, Kagome began cleaning herself and enjoying the soothing warmth of the springs. Sango and Talia followed suit and then shortly afterward, all of them relaxed back into the spring for a few more minutes. Feeling herself begin to prune, Kagome sighed in disappointment, but rose from the water to begin the process of getting ready for the banquet. Sango and Talia quickly dried themselves off and then followed Kagome as she reentered her chambers. Talia, taking the initiative, dressed quickly, then approached the closet to choose a gown that would complement her Lady’s coloring. Choosing a deep sapphire gown with a plunging back and tight fitting to fit her form, she approached her Lady with a proud smile. Her Lady would be beautiful indeed. It was time to begin the ascension ritual…… OK everyone!! That is it for now….I hope this long chapter was at least a small compensation for such a long wait for this. I am currently working on the next installment and hope to get it out in the next couple weeks.
