Chapter 10: A Queen’s Wrath
Moisture was beginning to gather on my skin, for a moment I thought I was being brought back onto the hill where I met the God and Goddess because there was no reason for dew in the Queen’s chamber. But Sesshomaru’s arm was still warm and firmly wrapped around my bare waist.
The moisture continued to collect on my skin as I pulled away from his warm embrace to look up at him. Our faces were less than a foot apart but a thick grey fog was filling the room and slowly obscuring him from my sight.
I looked over his shoulder but couldn’t see anything but a wall of grey that surrounded us. I gripped his firm shoulders as the thick grey fog began to completely enshroud him.
The hair on the back of my neck rose just as Sesshomaru gripped my side tighter. ‘What’s going on?’ I whispered.
He didn’t answer and for a moment I could see his golden eyes through the fog, the metallic shine was gone from his eyes. Then he was gone, his claws sliced through my side as he tossed me away from him and sent me spinning across the room as a bright white light shot through the room, momentarily blinding me.
My back slammed into a wall just as the thunder filled the room in a deafening boom that slammed into my chest. If I had any air left in my lungs I would’ve screamed instead I laid crumpled on the stone floor blinking to try and get the spots from my vision. Not that it really mattered the clouds were so thick I couldn’t see anything through them.
I strained to hear anything around me but it was silent, though I’m not really sure if it was because there was no sound being made or if the thunder had damaged my hearing.
My side twinged slightly in protest as I pushed myself onto my hands and knees. Fast healing was a true blessing. I touched my side, under the blood my skin was smooth where Sesshomaru’s claws had dug into me, I was alright. The grey fog swirled around me in a light breeze but it was so thick I couldn’t see what was going on around me.
I wanted so badly to call out to Sesshomaru and make sure he was alright but I held my tongue and pulled my aura in around me as tightly as I could before slowly creeping back to where he had thrown me from.
A white light was moving slowly through the cloud away from me. It had to be Celeste, were all Queens this crazy? I kept pace with her as she moved through the clouds at a slow but steady pace. Power crawled over my skin in a hot wave.
I threw myself to the side as another flash of lightning lit the room and the sonic boom of thunder reverberated off the walls but I couldn’t hear it. The lightning wasn’t directed at me and already I could feel her calling another bolt.
‘Stop!’ I got to my feet and started running toward the glowing portion of the mist. She looked like a banshee shrouded in mist. I reached for her, she had to stop.
Wynfor came through the mist in a blur and slashed at my outstretched arm. I pulled back just before his claws to touch me. Throwing a barrier up around me I ran past him as fast as I could. He swiped at me again but his claws just bounced off my barrier, I was safe, I was alright. But where was Sesshomaru?
Lightning shot through the cloud again and I turned my head away and closed my eyes to try and save my sight, I didn’t have enough time to blink spot out of my eyes. As soon as the flash was gone I ran toward the Queen again.
She dodged my outstretched hands and I spun on my heel to face her with my arms stretched wide to block her from attacking where I hoped Sesshomaru was. But with my barrier up I couldn’t feel his aura. ‘Please stop it,’ I cried and I couldn’t hear the words from my own mouth. I was completely deaf. Oh Gods was it permanent?
I could barely make out any distinct feature from behind her glow and the fog so I don’t know if she replied but the clouds weren’t gone yet so I continued to plead with her. ‘Please my Queen he only did what he thought was right. He has been there for me through everything, and he has promised to always be there for me. If he hadn’t come to me he would’ve been forsworn your majesty.’
I dropped the barrier and got down on one knee with my head bent low. I really hope she won’t try to attack me, ‘please forgive him Queen Celeste.’
I stared into the fog that blocked my view of the grey stone I was kneeling on; my only answer would come from if the fog lessened. There had to be a way to protect your hearing that I didn’t know of because I’m sure Celeste and Wynfor would never allow the thunder to render them so helpless. Pressure was growing in my ears but still I couldn’t hear anything.
The fog was still thick and dark around me but the Queen hadn’t moved yet. I could feel Sesshomaru behind me now but it wasn’t how I expected it. I thought I would feel the cold anger that used to surround him whenever we met in the Feudal Era. The quiet fury that made lesser beings hide in fear. But, it wasn’t there. Had she knocked him unconscious? How bad was he hurt?
I tried to think of anything else I could say to defend him and not fuel her anger, surely the knowledge that he would be forsworn was enough, demons lived in fear of the Darkness the Eats All Things as much as we do as well as the miko that act as policemen.
I didn’t know what else to say and if she was waiting for an answer from me I could not give any. ‘Forgive me my Queen if I am not responding properly, the thunder has rendered me deaf.’ Please let this be temporary.
The fog began to swirl quicker and I caught glimpses of the stone floor. I looked up at the Queen, her face was unreadable but her eyes held a warning in them as she met mine through the mist before she looked to my right.
I followed her line of sight to the door where Wynfor was waiting. I quickly pulled my shields in place and nodded slightly. Wynfor opened the door and let Jalen, the royal healer, into the room. Jalen walked over to the Queen and bowed before her. His long sky blue hair was tied into a low ponytail and fell over his shoulder to brush against the stone floor before he rose to his full height which was short for a Sidhe.
His moonlit skin had a blue tint that made him look like a delicate flower. He was dressed for the ball and wore white pants that fit like a second skin around his waist and ass with light blue stripes that curled down his legs where the pants flared out to cover his shoes. His shirt was made of a sheer material that faded from a dark blue that matched his sapphire eyes to the light blue of the strips on his pants.
The clothing clung to him like a second skin and accented every graceful movement of his body as he conversed with the Queen. I couldn’t understand what they were saying and now that the mist was completely gone I took a chance and looked behind me.
Sesshomaru had propped himself against the far wall by the bed, his shirt and jacket were burned away in the front revealing charred and reddened flesh over the right side of his chest and shoulder. The energy inside me began to swell and my hands itched to heal his scorched flesh. But I stayed where I was, I wasn’t sure if it would set the Queen off again. He opened his eyes and stared straight into mine, clearly telling me to stay put before he looked behind me..
I turned around and found Jalen approaching me, I stood up and waited for him to do whatever he was going to do. I wasn’t much taller than he was, at 5’9 I was also considered short in Sidhe standards but right now I could look down at another Sidhe. He took my chin and turned my head to the right and then the left as he examined my ears.
He let go of my chin and mouthed ‘you’re lucky’. My breath came out in what was probably a very loud sigh. His left hand began to glow softly and he cupped my left ear. I shivered as his energy flowed out of his hand and into my ear. The pressure that had been building became painful and I balled my fists to keep from flinching as sound slowing started filtering in. My pulse was thundering in my ear, louder and louder as the pressure increased until it finally popped.
I jumped and rubbed my ear as he moved to my right side and repeated the process, even though I knew what to expect I still jumped when the pressure broke. I shook my head and tried to rub of the residual energy he had left behind. It was always uncomfortable when someone touched you with magick and then left some of it behind.
I bowed to him slightly in thanks. I knew not to ask for him to heal Sesshomaru, they don’t waste Sidhe healing on lesser fey, forget about demons. I turned to the Queen and bowed to her as well.
‘I am sorry my Queen,’ I waited for her to tell me I could rise, which could be a while, I hope not.
‘We shall discuss this later, too much time has been spent already and I need to prepare for the ball,’ she walked up to me so that her feet were in my view. ‘You will learn that no oath it greater than the oath to your Queen Kagome.’
I closed my eyes, ‘yes my Queen.’
‘You may rise and see to your demon then Gwydion will escort you to your chamber so that you may get dressed for the ball.’
I stood up and looked up into her cold eyes, ‘yes my Queen.’
I turned and walked as quickly as I could and still look graceful over to Sesshomaru, his eyes were closed again and he didn’t bother opening them as I knelt in front of him. If he was unconscious I wasn’t going to rouse him. The stench of burnt flesh invaded my nose and turned my stomach. I forced myself to look at the burnt skin and my stomach threatened to empty. The edges of the ruined cloth was stuck into his skin, I was going to have to remove the coat and shirt before I could heal the wounds.
‘There is more on my back,’ he whispered and I jumped.
‘Um’ I have to take off your shirt and coat,’ my voice sounded a little breathy.
He nodded, ‘I have had worse Lady Kagome as you are aware.’ He gazed into my eyes as he tried to comfort me. Was I so weak that he had to comfort me while I healed him? How pathetic.
I unbuttoned the rest of his shirt and began to pull both the shirt and jacket off of his right shoulder first, if only Gwydion didn’t have my bag, I could’ve cut off the damn clothes. He was completely silent as I peeled the cloth away from his skin. The room was completely silent except for the sound of cloth and skin tearing.
I moved the cloth off of both his shoulders and then helped him lean forward enough that I could pull the coat off of his back. It was even worse than his shoulder and chest. It had been a direct hit between his shoulder blades. I must’ve been hurting him so much but of course he didn’t flinch or say anything. I peeled the cloth off of his back as quick as I could. Once he was free of the burnt cloth I threw it to the side and immediately placed both my hands over his shoulder and chest.
I closed my eyes and called forth the healing energy inside me, warmth filled my hands and I pushed it into the wound. He shuddered as the skin slowly began to smooth out. ‘Am I hurting you?’
‘No,’ his voice was deeper than normal.
His skin was back to it normal flawless alabaster as I pulled away my still glowing hands. ‘Can you lean forward again?’ He did and I got up and sat behind him, the wound was already beginning to heal thankfully. I put my hands over the wounds and pushed the warm energy into his back.
A human was painting designs on Wynfor’s chest while Celeste sat by at a large vanity getting her hair done, they both appeared to be ignoring us but I could see Celeste’s eyes watching us in the mirror. I looked at his back again, it was almost completely healed. I pushed the energy deeper, feeling for any internal damage. He sighed and his shoulders slumped slightly as I moved lower, my hands traced along the skin following the path of the energy.
Nothing felt wrong so I slowly pulled my energy out of him and made sure I took all of it with me. I would never want anyone to leave residue inside me, yuck. The glow around my hands faded back to normal.
As soon as my hands left his back he rose to his feet and turned to bow to me before he quickly walked over to the Queen and knelt before her, his words were too soft to hear but I knew he was apologizing.
I went over to the bed and got dressed, I never fully turned my back on the other occupants in the room. I didn’t trust the Queen and her Consort anymore, she was too quick to inflict pain and Wynfor would do anything for his Queen.
Once I was dressed I walked over to the Sesshomaru and the Queen, I didn’t recognize the two demifey that were twisting her hair into intricate braids and adorning it with gems. I would ask Sesshomaru who they were later. I bowed before the Queen, ‘you wished for us to prepare for the ball.’
‘Gwydion will escort you to your chambers and once you are presentable he will escort you to the ball.’ She waived her hand at me dismissively before she began running her fingers through Sesshomaru’s hair.
Anger welled up inside me, how dare she attack him like that and then once he is healed treat him once more like an obedient pet. ‘And Sesshomaru?’ I hope I didn’t sound as angry as I felt, that would be a very bad thing.
‘Sesshomaru shall remain with me, his clothes are here and Kate is waiting for him,’ she glared at me through the mirror, daring me to argue and o how I wanted to. I wanted him with me, as far away from her as I could get him.
I bowed again, ‘yes my Queen I will see you both at the ball.’ I rose and walked to the door, I didn’t look back as I walked through the door, if I did I would just do something foolish that he would undoubtedly pay for.
In the reception area Math and Umber both stood at attention, ‘Where’s your dog?’ Umber’s smug voice asked almost immediately after the door closed.
‘Shove it,’ I growled and moved across to the outer door and opened it. Gwydion turned around, ‘let’s go,’ I said in a slightly more civil tone.
He looked behind me and I watched him search the room for the only person he wouldn’t find. ‘Right,’ he said softly, ‘this way Lady Kagome.’ He pointed farther down the hall, I started walking as fast as I could, I needed to get a far away from there as I fucking could.
I heard the door close behind me and the dry, slithering sound of the vines as they covered up the door. I couldn’t go back; I left him there with her. My throat was closing and my eyes began to burn with unshed tears. Fuck!
Gwydion moved ahead of me and the vines parted a little down the hall on the left side. He opened the door and placed a hand at the small of my back to guide me through the doorway and into my family’s wing of the Sithen. His hand never left my back as he closed the door and led me down the path. I wanted to pull away from his offered comfort but that would give away just how much it hurt to leave Sesshomaru behind to the mercy of the person who I am positive put that dead look in his eyes.
Though if Gwydion was trying to comfort me I guess he already knew.
Taking a deep breath I looked around me, Gwydion could’ve led me into the fire of hell and I wouldn’t have realized it. That was too foolish of me, I didn’t have Sesshomaru to watch my back while I was an emotional wreck.
Wing was obviously too mundane of a word for where we were. The cobblestone path we were on was lined with fields of wild flowers that stretched out into a small forest and before us was a large grove. Mammoth trees poked out from behind small cottages that were complete with smoking chimneys. In the center of the grove was a large pond that had a Japanese style bridge crossing over it.
It was so beautiful, a true fairytale brought to life. But, this fairytale was no different from the one I found when I fell down the well. Danger and deceit lurked around every corner, threatening to harm those I cared for.
We walked to the fifth door on the right and I walked in quickly enough that Gwydion couldn’t keep his hand on my back, good. The house was much larger than the outside leads one to believe, magic and all that jazz. This would be my first and only stay in this house, after the ball I would have my own house to stay in, though I hoped to rarely use it. I was just fine living in the mundane, human world.
My family hadn’t arrived yet, or perhaps they were going straight to the ball, either way I was grateful. I turned to Gwydion and didn’t even try to smile. ‘I’m going to change, make yourself comfortable.’
‘Of course Kagome,’ he said and moved toward the cold fireplace.
I didn’t give him a second thought and hastily walked into my room in the back, I closed the door and leaned against the sturdy oak. I closed my eyes and an image of Sesshomaru kneeling at the Queen’s feet appeared before me. I opened my eyes, I wouldn’t be closing my eyes for awhile, not until he was back at my side where he belongs.
My dress was spread out on the bed and I cringed at the color scheme, red and white. Miko’s garb, though it was unlike any miko outfit I ever saw. I shook my head and began undressing, the sooner I was ready hopefully it was the sooner I could see Sesshomaru again.
The dress was almost completely backless so that meant no bra, great. Thankfully the inner material of the dress was a bodysuit the same color as my skin and supported my assests enough. Once I smoothed the dress down I turned to the floor length mirror. It was beautiful, I looked beautiful and nothing like Kikyo might I add.
The top of the dress was just a body suit with three strips of white fabric with red flowers on it that crossed from my right to my left. The first one attached at my neck like a chocker and went across the top of my breast to just under my arm and another strip did the same on my back. The next went across the top of my right breast down under my left breast to attach at the side and the last strip in the front went diagonally across my stomach and once again had a strip that did the same along my back.
The red skirt clung to my hips and ended just after my ass where it turned into about fifty strips of long red cloth that brushed my toes as I walked. I didn’t have any shoes, instead I had red and white ribbons wrapped around my left foot and up my calf. I twirled in a circle with a small smile on my face.
I brushed my hair out quickly and clasped half of it in the back with a small white dove clip. Normally a Sidhe would just use glamour for makeup, but I didn’t have any practice with that so regular makeup would have to do. I went out into the living room where Gwydion was sitting reading a book.
‘Do you have my bag?’ I asked.
He looked up from the book and his eyes immediately swept over me in a long appreciative gaze that made me want to hide in my room for the rest of the night. ‘It’s right here,’ he motioned to the bag beside him.
I walked over and grabbed the bag pretending he was reading the book and not watching my every move. I went back into the room and his eyes followed me as far down the hall as they could. Gwydion was a lech, one that could’ve given Miroku pointers, but I couldn’t smack him upside the head for watching my ass..
I threw my bag onto the bed and quickly strapped on some of the blades where Sesshomaru had told me to. I could only hide three of them and hopefully that was enough, maybe I could slip one to him later since the Queen wouldn’t let him keep Tokijin or Tenseiga for the night. Once I was certain that no one could tell I was armed even if they danced with me I applied some red lipstick that would’ve looked tacky if it was a little lighter than the dress.
I applied mascara and some dark grey eye shadow and I was done. I opened the door again, holding my head high I walked up to Gwydion. ‘Let’s go.’
He put down the book and stood, ‘I have to stop at my chambers and drop off my weapons.’
I nodded, ‘of course, lead the way.’
He looked me over once more and I almost wished it was in a lecherous way instead of like he was contemplating something. ‘Is Sesshomaru still coming to the ball?’
‘Yes,’ I replied and walked out of the house. If he wasn’t then I was going to demand answers from our loving Queen.
We walked back up the path to the door, he opened it for me and I stepped into a long corridor that was lit by will o wisps floating along the ceiling. I immediately scanned the area, the corridor turned a corner at both ends. A soft feminine voice came from the right and I immediately masked my presence and turned to find Gwydion looking down the hall with the hand on the hilt of his axe.
Sesshomaru trusted him, I had to do the same. ‘Stay here,’ I mouthed and waited for him to nod, which he did reluctantly. I was very grateful I wasn’t wearing shoes as I slowly crept down the hall until I could make out what the female was saying.
‘Our master will reward you greatly and as an extra bonus you will get my sister and myself.’ The female voice practically purred, ‘don’t you want to be with your own kind again instead of chasing that bit of golden flesh?’
Golden flesh? I waited for the person to answer but nothing came, maybe they were talking to softly. I crept closer until I was just around the corner but I couldn’t see them.
‘What’s wrong?’ She asked.
‘He’s elf-struck that’s what’s wrong,’ a second female voice answered. ‘That little Sidhe bitch-’ I could hear her choking.
‘Shut your vile mouth wench.’
I covered my mouth to hold in my gasp, Sesshomaru. I turned around to find Gwydion looking at me intently, he heard it too.
‘I knew there was still some fire left in you,’ the first one purred. ‘Now let my sister go.’
I could feel the tension flare around the corner as Gwydion decided to make his presence known as he came walking down the hall. He grabbed my arm and pulled me alongside him, I only had a second to school my face as we rounded the corner arm in arm.
‘Oh Sesshomaru there you are we were looking for you, you old dog.’ Gwydion greeted him with a cheery smile.
Not ten feet down the hall were two women I never wanted to see with him, ever. I could feel my rage building inside me while I looked over at Toshiko standing just in front of Sesshomaru in a gown made of sheer dark blue fabric that crossed over her breasts and around her neck and a long flowing skirt of the same material. She smiled at me thought her onyx eyes simmered with anger.
Her sister Tsukiko had draped herself on Sesshomaru’s arm, probably to get him to release her sister but now she hung there like a long time lover, her full lips drawn into a pout as she hugged his arm. Her silver hair was cut in a short layered bob that framed her heart shaped face. A dark blue stripe cut across each cheek and her ice blue eyes held the promise of pain as she glared at me..
Her dress was a white gown with light blue flowers embroidered along the flowing skirt.
Sesshomaru was dressed in the same tight black pant as the rest of the guard, his chest was painted in tribal markings that were the same color as the stripes on his face, wrists and hips. He gazed at me with his usual unreadable mask and I felt my anger spike. I kept my energy under tight control as Tsukiko’s hand traced a pattern along the swell of his chest.
‘Sesshomaru, I would like to have both my escorts for the evening by my side,’ my voice was even as I held his gaze. I couldn’t believe this, here I was worried sick about him and he’s with these two detestable demons.
‘If you will excuse me Toshiko, Tsukiko,’ he gently pulled himself from Tsukiko’s grasp and walked over to us. He bowed to me slightly, ‘My lady,’ he said as he rose and stood by my side.
I glared at the two demonesses in front of us, ‘if you will excuse us, I’m sure we will see you at the ball.’
‘Of course Miko Kagome,’ Tsukiko said and she bowed slightly before walking past us and around the corner with her sister in tow.
I didn’t look at Sesshomaru, ‘please Gwydion lead the way.’
Thankfully he just nodded and began walking down the hall, I followed and turned my head slightly to make sure Sesshomaru was doing the same. I was still too angry to release any of my shields. Gwydion brought us into another hall and then through the door into a grove that was like my families wing only the clearing on either side of the path had sparring fields and training dummies.
‘Gwydion I would like to speak to Lady Kagome for a moment in private, we will meet you in your chambers.’ Sesshomaru said.
Gwydion turned and looked at me, ‘are you okay with that Kagome?’
‘I’ll be fine,’ I don’t make any promises about Sesshomaru though. I turned and motioned for him to lead the way.
He walked past me silently and led me to the back of the square, to one of the smaller houses, probably a guest house for the few guards that lived outside of the Sithen. He held open the door for me, a true gentleman.
I walked in and crossed my arms under my chest, I couldn’t look at him yet so I just stared into the fireplace. ‘Another useless talk with the twins?’
‘Kagome,’ he sounded tired.
‘Why is it always them? Are they always at your heels the second I’m not around?’ A dry laugh escaped my lips, ‘you said she would try it at court, I didn’t think it would be so soon though.’
‘They weren’t expecting you to be there,’ he said.
‘Oh that makes me feel sooooo much better,’ I threw up a barrier around the room and wove a small silence spell into it just in case. ‘Let me guess there master wants you to steal the Shikon from me since you are of course the closest to me.’
‘Yes,’ was all he said.
I turned around and placed my hands on my hips. He stood by the door with that damned blank mask on his face. ‘Who is there master?’
‘They were very careful not to say his name,’ he replied.
‘But it is a male? Is he a demon?’
‘They said he a few times, I can only assume that he is a demon Toshiko and Tsukiko despise your kind.’ The muscles in his jaw flexed as he gazed down at me.
My kind, ‘you hate them too don’t you? For everything they’ve done to you? For everything they are still doing to you? Do you hate me too Sesshomaru?’
He shot forward so fast I didn’t see him move until he was in front of me, gently taking me in his arm. ‘I don’t hate you Kagome, I don’t know why you continue to think that but please stop it. I hate the ones that have tried everything they could think of to break me but I don’t hate all of them, especially not you.’
I couldn’t hug him for fear of ruining the designs on his chest and back so instead I cupped his cheek and marveled at how he nuzzled into my hand slightly. ‘I was so worried about you, the way Celeste treats you is despicable. I don’t want to have to leave you in her mercy ever again.’
‘You will not have the choice,’ he said gently.
‘Tell me what happened with the twins,’ I heard him sigh. ‘I will try my best not to overreact.’
His lips pulled into a small smile, he nuzzled my hand a little more before he pulled away and walked over to the couch. A followed and sat facing him on the couch with my legs tucked to the side.
‘It is what we thought, they want the Shikon no Tama so that they can overthrow the Sidhe and they know you have it Kagome.’ He looked into my eyes as he continued, ‘They are offering me my lordship back as well as the twins if I can get it from you.’
I had to look away from his golden eyes, ‘I don’t doubt your loyalty Sesshomaru.’
‘Then why are you so angry with me?’ He had to ask.
‘I’m not angry with you,’ I replied.
‘Why were you angry when you came around the corner and saw me standing there with Toshiko and Tsukiko?’ Of course he knew how to phrase the question, I had two options I could answer him or try and run for it. Running sounded exceedingly good right now.
‘Damn you,’ I grumbled and caught his arm before he could stand. ‘I’m jealous okay? I know I have no right to be but when I see those vile bitches hanging all over you and you just letting it happen it pisses me off beyond reason and makes me want to smash stuff. Then off course there is the fact that they are actively plotting against me, that helps too.’ I let go of his arm and put my head in my hands, ‘I’m sure I totally failed to hide my anger again and now they have even more stuff to throw in my face.’
‘You are jealous of them?’ he sounded astonished.
‘Not a very Sidhe emotion I know, ugh, I hate this no lying thing,’ I couldn’t look at him as a matter of fact I would never be able to look him in the eye for the rest of our unnatural lives. I needed to change the subject, too bad I couldn’t think of anything but my embarrassing confession.
‘Kagome they are nothing but pests with information,’ he was actually trying to assure me I had nothing to be jealous of?
I shook my head, ‘I’m not going to dig myself an even deeper hole. Gwydion probably thinks we have killed each other by now.’ Good excuse, I may actually be a genius. I got up and waited for him to rise as well but I couldn’t look at him just yet.
His hand grasped mine gently as he rose and he tugged my slightly, ‘look at me Kagome.’
I turned slowly and stared very intently at his chest. It was a very nice chest and over the course of the past week I had stared at it enough that I was beginning to memorize the soft sell of his pecks and his perfectly round tawny nipples. His hand left mine and travelled up to my neck where his fingers traced along the edge of my collar. ‘You are beautiful.’
My eyes snapped up to meet his soft gold ones. He smiled and his finger lifted my chin up to help shut my gaping mouth, ‘really?’
He nodded, ‘really,’ his hand cupped my cheek. There was a knock at the door. ‘Gywdion,’ it almost sounded like a curse.
I held his hand to my cheek and nuzzled into his palm the same way he had done with mine. ‘I could only hide three of the blades in this dress, do you need one of them?’
He stepped back and helped me twirl slowly as he searched for them, ‘if I wasn’t looking for them I wouldn’t be able to find them. Very good, keep them I do not need anything but my own claws.’
I smiled, ‘of course.’ Gwydion knocked on the door again.
‘Drop the barrier Kagome,’ Sesshomaru said.
‘I have one last question, something Toshiko said.’ I saw him tense and I didn’t fight him when he pulled his hand from mine. ‘What does it mean to be elf-struck?’
‘That is a long conversation that we don’t have time for at the moment,’ he said.
‘Sorry you’re right, we are probably more than fashionably late already.’ I hugged him quickly, ‘I’m just glad you’re alright.’
‘You worry too much,’ he whispered into my hair before stepping back.
‘What are friends for?’ I dropped the barrier and turned around as the door slammed against the wall and Gwydion came charging in. ‘Geez, I’m sorry we took so long you didn’t have to try and break down the door..’
‘You didn’t have to take so long talking about his bitches, the Queen will be pissed if we are late,’ Gwydion replied.
‘We aren’t late yet?’
‘We will make it there in time if you two hurry up,’ Gwydion motioned for us to get outside.
I turned back to Sesshomaru who had his mask back on, ‘um I think you should dance with them tonight.’
He looked down at me and I fought not to squirm, ‘I will not initiate anything with them.’
‘But you won’t turn them down either,’ I tried not to be jealous, I was suggesting it, it was a good idea. But damn it I didn’t like it, at all.
‘No I will not,’ he walked past me and outside.
Gwydion looked at Sesshomaru outside and then back at me, ‘if you have finally decided to play matchmaker for him all I have to say is you two have really shitty taste..’
I shrugged and followed him out of the house. This night was going to be so much fun and I had no one to blame but myself.
