Hi everyone! Thank you for reviewing! Enjoy, and I apologize in advance as the posting will slow down. As I said the boys (Yasha and Sesshy) are being difficult about the ending. (Sesshomaru the perfectionist and Inuyasha is upset people will think he's a drama queen) XD
Chapter 10
Kagome dragged Miroku and Shippo as fast as she could to the battle raging in the center of the castle. “We have to hurry Miroku, I see Inuyasha on the ground and oh my god is that Kohaku?”
Sango and Kirara both screamed as they saw Kohaku’s bloody body lying on the ground. Bounding over Kirara growled in rage at the small white form bending over Kohaku.
“Shut up and help you stupid humans my powers can only keep his spirit from leaving his body for so long, if his wound isn’t purified along with the jewel shard in his body I can’t heal him.” Kanna said as her mate’s blood coated her hands.
“Kagome! Hurry we need you over here.” Sango yelled out.Miroku pushed the confused girl toward Sango, “Go, I’ll help Inuyasha and Sesshomaru.”With one last look at Inuyasha’s crumpled form on the ground Kagome ran to Kohaku. Dropping to her knees on the other side of Kohaku’s still form she put Shippo’s unconscious body down. “How can I help?”
“Help me turn him over.” Kanna shifted to the top of Kohaku’s head as Kagome and Sango lifted Kohaku up onto his side. “Now locate the shard in his back and purify it quickly.”
Kagome winced as blood seeped from the gaping hole in Kohaku’s chest as the small body was turned. “There in the middle of his back I see it.” Reaching out she placed her hand over the weak purple glow. “It’s not working! I can’t purify it while it’s still inside of him.” Tears slid down her cheeks.
Kanna growled in frustration at the stupid humans, “Cut him open so you can touch the shard stupid girl, just don’t remove the shard.”“Cut him? I don’t know if I can.” Kagome whimpered staring at Kanna in horror.
“Get out of the way Kagome I’ll do it.” Sango pushed the girl out of the way and unsheathing her dagger sliced into Kohaku’s back where Kagome’s hand had been. “There, now get yourself together I’m not losing my brother because your squeamish about a little blood.”
Kagome’s hand shook as she slipped it into the blood slick wound, feeling around she finally located the shard. “I’ve got it.” Slowly the shard’s weak purple light brightened to pure bright lavender.“Ok, now roll him back over.” Kanna reached into her kimono and held out to Kagome the fractured Shikon Jewel. “I need your jewel shards to complete the Shikon, once the shard in Kohaku’s back is the only missing piece and the jewel is purified I can use it to heal Kohaku.”
Kagome gasped in horror at what Kanna was asking her to do. “I can’t give you the shards, Naraku would win. This has got to be some trick of Naraku’s to get the shards.” Kagome started to back away.
“Kagome!” Sango latched onto the girl's arm before she could run away. “How can you say this is a trick?” Sango held her bloody hand in Kagome’s face. “This is real blood not some black slime of a demon puppet.” Sango grabbed the chain around Kagome’s neck and tore it from her throat. “I’m not letting my little brother die. We can always get the jewel back later when we kill Naraku.”
“Sango don’t give it to her!” Kagome watched in fear as Sango gave the little bottle with the jewel shards they’d worked so hard to collect to Naraku’s incarnation Kanna. “What have you done?”
“The same thing you’re going to do, save my little brother’s life. Now get over there and purify the Shikon Jewel.” Sango dragged the stunned girl to Kanna.
“Kagome I know you won’t believe me but once the Shikon is used to heal Kohaku Naraku will not be able to use the jewel.” Kanna said as she fitted the remaining shards into the jewel. “Healing this much damage will use all the power of the Shikon and fuse the jewel to Kohaku forever.” She looked at the girl pleading with her eyes for her to hear the truth of her words. “I love Kohaku, he is our mate, and I would willingly risk my life to save his. I know his sister feels the same. Can you turn from him so easily when all you have to do is purify the jewel to save his life?”
“Mate?” Sango shook her head brushing aside the question in her mind.Kagome looked from Kanna face to Sango’s then to Kohaku’s still and lifeless form. “Give me the jewel.” Kagome shuddered at the first touch of the evil saturating the near flawless jewel only one small fracture remained to mar its beauty. “Only one piece missing? Then Koga of the wolf tribe no longer has his two.” I wonder if Koga is even still alive. Slowly the light of the jewel started to pulse in time with her heart beat, the light getting brighter with each beat, finally with one last bright flash the jewel was pure its lavender light sparkling in her hand.
Pushing down the left side of her kimono, Kanna bared her left side and grabbing Sango’s knife she cut into her abdomen. Ignoring the gasps from the two humans beside her she reached her hand in and pulled out Naraku’s beating heart. “Now Kagome put the Shikon into Kohaku’s back so the shard in him will fit into the missing gap in the jewel. Sango I need you to hold him down as I start the healing.” She fit the beating heart into the gaping hole in Kohaku’s chest. She bit her lip as the wound in her side burned briefly as it healed itself as the girl pushed the Shikon jewel into Kohaku’s body. A bright flash was all the warning she got as the Shikon became whole. “Now Sango hold him!” Slapping her hands onto Kohaku’s chest she merged with Kohaku’s spirit and the Shikon jewel. Kohaku my love hear me I know it hurts but you must wake up.‘Kanna?’
Yes Kohaku It’s me my mate stay with us the Shikon jewel will heal you.
‘So cold Kanna.’
She grabbed a hold of the power of the Shikon jewel, “Please Kohaku you must wish the Shikon to heal you.” She pleaded aloud as she felt his spirit slipping further away.
“What’s going on? Why isn’t he healing?” Sango’s worried voice demanded.“Kohaku!” She again tried to reach him. Kohaku please don’t leave us! You must wish the jewel to heal you.‘I – I wish to live and stay with my mates.’ His soft mental voice whispered from the darkness.
“YES!” Her heart leap in joy as the Shikon jewel’s power surged around them and slammed thru Kohaku’s body jerking him almost upright before smashing him back to the ground his back bowed in agony. “Kagome help us hold him!”Agonizing screams tore from Kohaku’s throat as the jewel’s power fused the new heart to him and repaired the splintered bones of his chest. All three girls cried as they held him down. Kanna cooing words of love into his ear as her tears splashed his face. “Just a little bit more my love,” slowly the lavender light faded and Kohaku lay on the ground mewing in pain, the gaping wound in his chest gone as if it had never been there.
“That’s impossible.” Kagome whispered not believing her eyes.“That’s the power of a mate’s love, human.” Kanna smiled down into the lovely sable brown eyes of her mate.
Miroku limped over to Sesshomaru just as the Saimyoushou attacked in mass and loosened the ties on his hand. “Wind tunnel!” Miroku winced as the first of the poisonous insects entered his hand. “Don’t worry about the bugs Sesshomaru just kill that bastard.”
Sesshomaru was beyond hearing as his rage flared at the vermin that dared to hurt his mate, stood there and laughed. Reaching over he pulled Tetsusaiga from the ground, ignoring the burning pain in his hand as the sword’s power tried to reject him. “Wind scar!”
The blast took Naraku by surprise disintegrating most of his body as his head was blasted from his body. The severed head landed with a wet plop, a smile frozen on its lips, the severed tentacles littering the ground slowly inching their way toward it.
Miroku fell to his knees as the last of the insects entered his hand. “That’s not going to keep him down for long.” Miroku panted as the poison blurred his vision. “As soon as the severed pieces rejoin the head he will be back.”
Sesshomaru dropped the sword as smoke rose from the scorched flesh of his hand. Dropping to his knees in pain at the side of his fallen mate he gently brushed the hair from Inuyasha’s face. “Don’t leave me Yasha not when I just gained your love, I don’t think I could go back to being alone again.” Tears slipped unnoticed down his cheeks. “My heart would be frozen again without your smile to warm it.” How did he become so important to me so quickly?
Inuyasha’s eyes slowly opened as he looked up at his weeping mate. “This is just a scratch, nothing to get so upset over Sesshy.” It was breaking his heart to see his indomitable mate in such distress.“You’re a terrible liar Yasha.” He closed his eyes his heart braking at the knowledge of what he must do. “Yasha, I can use my demon energy to help heal you but,” he paused to clear the lump from his throat, “but the price is something I can’t choose to pay on my own.” He grabbed Inuyasha’s hand and laid it on his bare stomach. “I used my power with the help of Bokuseno’s spells to change my body inside to be able to carry our children,” he smiled at Yasha’s surprised gasp, “but if I take power away from the unfinished changes taking place inside of me to heal you, I won’t be able to make these changes ever again to carry our children.”
“No, Sesshomaru don’t do it.” He struggled to sit up. “I’ve survived wounds like this before.” Panting, unable to even sit up, he flopped back down to the ground as the world spun dizzily. How could I have doubted his love? To think after only a few days in the grotto he was already thinking of a long future with me.
“But my Lord Inuyasha that was before your body started purging the human blood from your body. You’re too weak now.” Myoga hopped up and down in his distress on Sesshomaru’s shoulder as he reappeared now that the battle had stopped."I'm sorry love; it would seem to be the only way." Sesshomaru blinked the tears from his eyes. I don't want to lose him, I can't lose him. “It’s no use having the ability to have children if you die without giving them to me Baka.” Smiling weakly Sesshomaru lightly smacked Inuyasha upside the head.““Ow, hey you said no hitting.” He tried to smile at his mate thru the pain in his gut.“Wait, I can use my healing sutras on Inuyasha.” Miroku said as he crawled over to them.
Sesshomaru shook his head. “You’ll need them for yourself human, I saw the mass of poisonous insects you took into yourself, and you won’t survive without them.” Sesshomaru turned away from the human monk knowing no human would willingly sacrifice himself for a demon.“He doesn’t have to use them Lord Sesshomaru I can suck the poison from his body.” Myoga tugged on the silver strands of Sesshomaru’s hair. “Let him help, please.”
“Decide quickly Sesshomaru that squirming mass of tentacles over there won’t take much longer to resurrect Naraku and I for one want to be far away from here when it does.” Miroku waived the papers of the healing sutras in the demon lord’s face.
“Fine impudent human, help me turn him so I can pull the tentacle from the wound.” He leaned over and with his hand on the tentacle whispered into his mate ear. “This is going to hurt love.” Quickly he wrenched the tentacle out and threw it far from the squirming mass of Naraku.
“Ahh!” Inuyasha screamed out and then blissfully slipped into the waiting arms of unconsciousness.
Miroku quickly slapped the paper sutras to the wound on Inuyasha’s back and then the wound on his stomach. Chanting the healing prayers the papers glowed with a golden light. “There he’ll be f-fine.”
He watched as the monk fell flat on his face in the dirt unconscious. “Myoga hurry and help the human.” Cradling his mate to him he sent out a mental call to Ah-Un.
“Right away Lord Sesshomaru.” The demon flea hopped to Miroku’s fallen body and greedily sucked the poisoned blood from him.The sound of evil laughter sent a cold chill down Sesshomaru’s spine, turning to the squirming mass of tentacles he watched as Naraku stepped from them whole and alive.“You won’t escape my wrath so easily dog demon brats.” His tentacles surged toward his injured enemies for the killing blow.“NARAKU!” Kanna’s voice rang out over the garden.
He stopped in shock his tentacles half way to his enemies, never having heard Kanna raise her voice above its soft tone ever.
“Naraku our mate needs us now. We don’t have time for your games.” She held Kohaku closer to her, his arm slung over her narrow shoulders. Sango helping to keep him on his feet from the other side as they walked over to the battle. Kagome trailed behind carrying Shippo’s still unconscious form.
“Ko- Kohaku?” He couldn’t believe his eyes. Forgetting everything but his mates he ran over to Kanna. His tentacles whipped out and knocked the human girls out of his way as he wrapped his arms around both Kanna and Kohaku.“Ouch you asshole that hurt.” Kagome whined as Sango helped her and a dazed but now conscious Shippo up, both of them leaning on a growling Kirara. Kagome bit her lip as something nagged at her thoughts. “Oh no!” Sinking to the ground at Kirara’s feet she pounded her fists in the grass. “Gone, all of them gone - how to get back, how?”
Sango tried to keep her eyes on both Kagome’s strange behavior and Naraku.
“This isn’t finished Sesshomaru.” Naraku growled at the dog demons before wrapping his tentacles and miasma around his mates and launched up into the sky retreating to safety, the castle quickly tearing itself apart and following them.
“Hurry up Master Jaken!” Rin clutched Ah-Un’s saddle as he started to lift from the ground. Reaching over she grabbed a hold of the staff of two heads and swung the little toad demon up.
“Disrespectful child.” He grumbled as he was forced to sit behind the human girl.
“I’m worried for Lord Sesshomaru Master Jaken, Ah-Un usually doesn’t fly this fast.” Rin crouched down closer to Ah-Un’s neck as the wind tried to peel her from the saddle.
“Stupid human girl, Lord Sesshomaru is invincible. He is just too busy to return and collect us.” Jaken said as his own heart quivered in fear.
It seemed to Rin to be only minutes before Ah-Un was descending to earth. “Lord Sesshomaru!” she called out as she spotted her lord sitting on the ground with something red in his arms.
“Ah-Un I need you to kneel down.” Sesshomaru said as the beast trotted up to him. “Rin please move up and make room.” As Ah-Un lowered itself to the ground he stood up with Inuyasha in his arms and mounted them both behind the human girl.“Ah, ouch!” Jaken cried out as he was knocked unnoticed from the saddle.
“Wait Sesshomaru where are you taking Inuyasha?” Kagome asked running over.
“Sango, what’s going on? What did I miss?” Shippo asked. He stared at the impudent human that dared to question him. “You would dare to question this Sesshomaru about his mate?”
“You don’t understand. The Shikon jewel is gone, fused to Kohaku to bring him back from the dead and transplant Naraku’s heart into him.” Kagome’s hands pulled at her hair in frustration as Sesshomaru just stared at her.“That just proves you have even less need to concern yourself with my mate human. You no longer need to use Inuyasha to collect jewel shards.” With a light nudge to Ah-Un’s side he signaled for him to regain his feet and put some distance between them and the crazed human girl.
“But how am I to get home!” She wailed, collapsing to the ground she wrapped her arms around herself and cried.
He stared down at the weeping girl, his youkai sneering in disgust at the weakness of the human. This is the human that dared to enslave my Inuyasha.
“She’s right Lord Sesshomaru.” Miroku said from the ground, slowly recovering as Myoga pulled the poison from his system. “Kagome used the jewel shards to travel to her tim – ah land and here.” Miroku stumbled and mentally kicked himself at almost letting slip that Kagome traveled in time instead of a different land. “Inuyasha seemed to be the only one besides Kagome that could travel back and forth as well. We need to know how he did it.” Did she say Naraku’s heart in Kohaku? Miroku stared at his wrapped hand as the implications drained the hope from his soul.
Sesshomaru frowned at the annoying group, his youkai demanding he take Yasha back to his castle to heal in safety. “As Inuyasha is still unconscious from his wounds you will not be getting any answers now. If he has anything to say on the matter when he is healed then I will send a message to the priestess’ village.” Flicking Ah-Un’s bridle he turned away from the humans as Ah-Un rose into the air.
“Sesshomaru wait! Inuyasha! Inuyasha!” Kagome wilted to the ground as the demon lord left not even looking back.“Sango,” Shippo tugged at the demon slayers pant leg, “does this mean Naraku wins?”
Sango looked down at the little fox demon, then to a weeping Kagome and finally to a pale and silent Miroku. Oh what have I done? Swallowing past a lump in her throat she nodded to Shippo, tears sliding down her face. “I think so little one, as the only way to free Miroku was to destroy Naraku’s heart and with the Shikon jewel gone Kagome is stuck here.” How can I free the man I love from Naraku’s curse if it means killing my little brother?
