Well, well, well, we
seem to have come to a pivotal part of the story. What happens here may change
the playing field altogether, or it may just prolong the inevitable. Whichever it is, let’s find out together,
huh?
Three days had passed
since the commotion outside the village. The villagers had more or less
forgotten about it, feeling more at peace since the old woman had told them
Sesshomaru would let nothing happen to their little village. That, plus their
knowledge of Inuyasha’s abilities, had more or less placed them into a small
state of security. Some of the women of the village had even taken to sneaking
to the hut, hoping to get a look at the demon lord. They still had trouble
believing that he was a demon.
That’s just what some
of them were doing, sneaking through the woods so that they could watch him
from the bushes. As she made her way towards the hut, Rin could see the flash
of the brightly colored dresses as they disappeared into the brush. She sighed
and shook her head, unsure what the girls thought they were going to see. Ever
since the mob scene the other night, he spent the majority of his days inside
the hut, opting to maintain a low profile. As she made her way down the path,
Rin clutched her bundle of herbs tighter.
She didn’t know why
she had brought them. Sesshomaru’s wounds had already healed. So had Ah-Un’s,
and Jaken’s wounds were coming along nicely. She wasn’t even sure why she
bothered going back to the hut anymore, much less taking them any medicinal
herbs. She couldn’t figure out why she kept going back.
Maybe it’s because you keep hoping to see Him with his shirt off again…
She shook her head
fiercely. She didn’t want to think about anything inappropriate.
Oh, come on. You know the reason you keep going back is because you
want to keep feeling that feeling. You know that feeling.
She shook her head
again.
Oh, come on, Rin. You know that feeling. The one you get when you look
at Sesshomaru. When you feel his stare on the back of your neck. When you think
about that look you saw in his eyes. When you remember what his muscles felt
like as you rubbed the medicine on his wounds. You know…
She shook her head
fiercely once again, trying to clear her mind of the impure thoughts that had
plagued her mind since Sesshomaru had arrived in the village. The feeling in
her groin had become a daily occurrence, and as she walked down the path, she
could feel it coming on again. She tried to keep her head down and ignore it,
but it seemed to have become stronger the last few days.
Why do you keep going back, Rin? Why go back, when you know that it’s
going to hurt that much more when he does to decide to finally leave?
I don’t know. Her head shook slowly. I really don’t know.

As she made her way
to the hut, Rin saw Sesshomaru standing outside, meditating. She turned her
head towards the forest, and could see the young women from the village
crouched in the bushes, hoping to catch a glimpse of the demon lord. She shook
her head again. Sesshomaru wasn’t stupid. He more than likely knew that those
girls were there, and he was probably annoyed at all the attention he was
receiving.
She slowly approached
him, not wanting to break his concentration. But although she was quiet as she
could possibly be, she was still no match for the demon lord’s sense of smell.
The sound of his voice almost made her jump out of her kimono. “I see you’ve
come back to play nurse again.”
“Oh!” She dropped her
bundle, then began to scurry around as she tried to pick up the herbal leaves
that were beginning to blow in the light breeze.
Sesshomaru watched
the girl as she scurried about, picking up the leaves as they were scattered
about by the wind. The light blue in her kimono seemed to blend with the sky,
and the fabric hugged her thighs tight and bunched around her waist as she
continuously bent over, retrieving her leaves.
He watched her
closely, never taking his eyes off of her. His aura was acting wild, flaring up
with every glance at her behind.
Gods, she is beautiful. If only it were night, I would grab her up in
my arms and carry her off and…
He shook his head,
trying to clear it of any impure thoughts. He didn’t know where that had come
from, but lately, these thoughts had been jumping in and out of his mind. He
tried to go back into his meditative state, but whatever concentration he’d had
been shattered by Rin’s arrival.
He watched her hips
closely, watching her rear shift from side to side. Then all of the sudden, she
stood up and turned to face him. Her face beamed with pride as she held the
last of her runaway leaves in her hand.
He immediately turned away, looking toward the forest, trying to seem as
if he were staring at the girls hiding in the bushes.
It seemed to work.
She was oblivious to his wandering eye, and he wanted to keep it that way.
“They’re annoying,
aren’t they?” Rin moved to his side and cocked her head to face the same way he
was. Her head swayed from side to side as she scanned the forest, trying to see
if she could catch a glimpse of their dresses at least.
Sesshomaru watched
Rin as she scanned the forest, trying to see the girls who weren’t there. In
reality, they were on the other side of the forest. They had become smart, and
hid on the side where the window was, hoping for a chance to see him with his
shirt off.
Sesshomaru cleared
his throat, forcing Rin to turn and face him. “Why are you here, Rin?”
Her eyes shifted away
from him as she tried to think of a good reason. “I-I just wanted to see how
you and the others were doing. That’s all.” She immediately turned away,
looking at the hut. “Where’s Ah-Un?”
“Jaken decided to
take them out for a while, see if they were feeling well enough to fly again.”
“What?” Rin looked
worried. “But his arm isn’t fully healed. He could injure it again.”
“Rin.” She turned to
face him again. “Jaken’s arm will be fine. What’s the real reason you’re here?”
Rin hung her head. “I
don’t know, I guess I just missed you. I haven’t seen you in seven years.”
Sesshomaru turned away.
“That was…for your own good.”
Rin smiled. “I know.”
She began to make her way to the hut, carrying her bundle of herbs. When she
reached the hut, she sat her bundle down inside the door and came back to where
Sesshomaru was standing. She folded her hands in front of her and hung her
head, trying to remain humble. “That’s why I decided to help you and Master
Jaken. I felt like I needed to repay you for all of the things that you’ve done
for me.” She stood there quietly for a moment, trying to let a small feeling of
awkwardness pass.
Sesshomaru was quiet,
as he tried to meditate, once again, finding it hard as Rin stood next to him.
He watched as she shifted and fidgeted uncomfortably. He knew that she really
cared about him, and that her concern for his well-being was genuine.
He also knew that it
would be impossible for him to reciprocate her feelings for him. She was like a
daughter to him, and no matter how much he wanted to deny it, even to himself,
he was still concerned for her emotional well-being. He knew that if he acted
on his current instincts, it would do nothing but tear the girl’s heart to
pieces when she was confronted with the awful truth.
But how do you know that she wants more? Maybe she’s prepared to accept
that…
He shook his head.
His instinct was working overtime in trying to get him to act.
“Rin?”
She turned to face
him. “Yes, m’lord?”
“Maybe you should go
back to the village.”
She frowned. “But
Master Jaken…”
“I will tell him to
stay put and make sure he understands about his arm. Now go.”
She hung her head and
swallowed. “Yes, Lord Sesshomaru.” He watched as she
slowly turned away and began to walk back toward the village very slowly, as
though she really didn’t want to leave.
Sesshomaru
watched her walk away, until her rear came into his line of vision. He stared
at it for a while. The soft side to side movement seemed hypnotic. Then he felt
the familiar stirring in his loins, and quickly pulled his vision away.

As Rin got closer to the village, she saw what appeared to be
a giant, colorful blob at the end of the path. As she got closer, the blob
revealed itself to be the young women of the village, all huddled together. One
of them happened to look up, and when she saw Rin
approaching, she turned back into the group, which then spread apart, blocking
her way. She stopped, looking at them nervously. “Is everything okay?”
The young woman from
earlier stepped forward. “Rin, we would like to know
just what that demon is to you.”
Rin
fidgeted a little. “What do you mean?”
“Who is he to you,
what purpose does he serve in your life? Why were you so adamant about helping
him?”
Rin
shrugged her shoulders. “I guess, it’s just because he’s my Lord Sesshomaru. Do I really need any other reason than that?”
“But why do you call
him ‘Lord?’ Why do you feel that you are his servant?”
Rin
hung her head, feeling embarrassed, although she didn’t know why. “Because he
saved my life,” she said in a barely audible whisper.
“What.” The woman
leaned forward, straining to hear what she’d said.
“I said he saved my
life.” She spoke only a little louder, but it was enough.
“So he saved your
life and you chose to follow him?”
Rin
nodded. “Yes.”
The young woman
shrugged her shoulders. “So if one of us were to approach him, you wouldn’t
have a problem with it?”
“No!” Rin’s voice was so loud that birds in the trees nearby
scattered. She quickly re-composed herself, but a look of worry now framed her
face. “I wouldn’t do that if I were you. He doesn’t care for humans, and if you
aggravate him too much, he won’t hesitate…” She let her voice trail off, as
though not saying what fate awaited the girls if they didn’t heed her warning
would be held off by her inability to speak the truth.
“To
hurt you.” Kagome’s voice rang out from behind the group. The girls all
turned around to face her, surprised to see her walking about.
The young woman spoke
up. “Lady Kagome! Are you sure you should be walking around in your-“
“I’ll be fine.”
Kagome slowly walked toward the group of girls, her hand resting on her
stomach. “You girls need to understand that Sesshomaru
is above all, a demon. He is extremely volatile, and if you continue irritating
him, he will not hesitate to hurt you in some way.”
“We just want to know
why he values her so much, that’s all. What’s so special about her,” rang out
one of the voices from the crowd.
“That,” Kagome said,
“is none of your business. I have known Sesshomaru
for a long time, before he even met Rin, and I ask
myself all of the time, why he would go so far for a young human girl who he
would normally care less about. Now all of you need to go back to the village
and leave Rin & Sesshomaru
alone.”
“I don’t know why
they keep doing this. Why is it such a big deal?”
“I would think that
you would understand that by now, Rin.” Kagome winced
as another sharp pain shot through her stomach. Then, her knees buckled beneath
her and she collapsed. Rin knelt down beside her and
tried to help her to her feet but Kagome stopped her. As Rin
looked at her, she could see that Kagome’s pants were clinging to her leg. She
looked at Kagome, a look of worry pulled over her face.
“Kagome, are you
alright?”
“I’m okay, but I need
to get home. Now.”
Rin
tried to remain calm and not panic, but it was hard. It was she could do to
help Kagome up and slowly make her way to their hut. When they finally made it
inside, Rin helped Kagome toward her mattress. Kagome
began to sit down slowly and lie down on her back. As she did, she began to
give Rin directions.
“Rin,
I need you to go into the village and find the old woman. Bring her here, then
go and find Inuyasha and bring him here as well.”
“Okay, Kagome, right
away.” Rin stood up and stood around for a while,
trying to get her thoughts together.
“Rin,
I need you to do that right away, as in right now.”
“Right!”

It was long. It was
tiring. But as the sun set and the moon made its presence felt, the dusk ushered
in the beginning of a new life.
Kagome and Inuyasha beamed with pride as she held their newborn baby
girl in her arms.
Rin
and Kaede were quiet, keeping their happiness held
inside.
Meanwhile, the baby
slept silently, oblivious to the people around her.
As Rin looked at her, she could feel a crushing feeling in her
chest. She felt her heart break, as she watched Kagome
and Inuyasha silently celebrate the new life they had
created. She began to wonder what it was like, being a mother. She knew that
she was still young and had some growing up to do, but she couldn’t help but
think of all the things that she would teach her child.
I’d teach her how to look for herbs, or maybe show him how to climb
trees. Sesshomaru and I will spend so much…time…with
them…
Her head hung as she
tried to once again clear her mind. But more and more, she began to find
herself wondering what it would be like to share an intimate relationship with
her lord. She wondered what it would be like to connect with him on such a deep
level, to have a connection similar to the one Inuyasha
and Kagome shared. She had a great deal of love for Sesshomaru,
and she was beginning to wonder about the possibility that Sesshomaru
felt the same.
She watched Kaede as she made her way to her parents and her new
sister. As she got closer, Inuyasha looked up and
when he saw her coming, lifted his arm and beckoned her closer. She then ran
towards him and embraced him, looking at her little sister with pride.
Rin
looked at them and had to fight the feelings of jealousy as she looked at the
happy family. She turned to leave, her heart aching inside of her chest. As she
started to walk, her mind wandered. She wondered what she would do. Sesshomaru would never return her feelings, even if he did
feel the same. She had no idea what she was supposed to do. She didn’t feel
these feelings for anyone else, and she knew that that was a problem.
She soon noticed that
she had stopped, just outside of Sesshomaru’s refuge.
She wanted to run in there and tell him how she felt, but she couldn’t bring
herself to do it. All she could do was stand there in the dark, alone with her
feelings, and her thoughts.

Sesshomaru
sat in the hut, quiet. His mind was becoming clear and his instinct was slowly dissipating.
He sat with his back against the wall, quietly taking the sounds, the sights,
the scents.
One particular scent
came to his nose. It was Rin. Her scent made his
instinct rise, but he quickly silenced it. He rose to his feet, and began to
walk out of the hut, stepping over Jaken’s sleeping
carcass. When he stepped out into the darkness, he saw her. She was standing
there, still as a tree and silent as a wall. He began to walk up to her, but
she didn’t notice. She was too lost in her own little world.
“Rin?
Rin?
Rin!”
Her head jerked in his direction. He could tell that she had been pretty deep
in her thoughts.
“Rin,
what’s wrong?”
Rin
looked at him with a deep longing in her eyes, and was silent for a while.
Then, without
warning, she reached around his neck and pulled his face towards hers, locking
her lips onto his. He could feel the passion, the aggression, the feeling that
she poured into their connection. He could feel it wash over him, as though she
were bathing him in it. She released him, with her eyes closed, as though she
was savoring the moment. When her eyes opened, she looked at him and gasped.
The look in his eyes
was one of pure disgust and fury. Sesshomaru said
nothing as he turned away and walked back into the hut, leaving her there alone
with her thoughts.
