Chapter 10: Emotion
~*~*~
Sesshoumaru stared down and into the eyes of the tiny woman he held in his arms. His amber eyes gazed into her stormy blue ones as he hesitantly waited for a reaction of some sort.
Surely, Kagome would despise him for what he had done and she had every right to be upset with him.
However, there was nothing but a long stretch of silence between them…
That was when Sesshoumaru realized that there was something amiss.
As much as he longed to see those stunning blue eyes…it was not her that he was seeing.
It was evident in the soft, red glow in her eyes and the way she stared emptily back at him.
Kagome wasn’t there.
Atsuko intently and nervously watched the whole scene unfold in front of her; worried about her Lady’s current state.
No one dared to move; worried that a sudden motion might provoke the unstable miko, despite her lack of powers.
Atsuko knew that she was the one to have triggered her Lady’s protective state and was unsure as to how the young miko was going to react with their Lord around.
Atsuko was so concerned and anxious about the situation, that she didn’t realize that she was holding her breath in anticipation, until the sound of the first bedchamber’s doors closing snapped her out of it.
Instantly, Kagome sat up with her attention fully focused on the pair of sliding doors in front of her.
Quietly and as calm as she could be, Atsuko rose from her kneeling position before she left the room to meet Sachiko outside of the doors.
The older hawk youkai didn’t say a word as she firmly grabbed Sachiko by the arm to pull her out of the bedchambers.
Sachiko opened her mouth to ask about what was going on, but immediately shut it after she earned a stern look from her mother, who was practically shoving the young youkai out.
Silently, Atsuko closed the large screen doors behind her; leaving their Lord and Lady alone together in the dim candle-lit room.
Kagome’s attention was so fixated on the doors that she didn’t even flinch when Sesshoumaru placed his arms protectively around her again to grab her attention.
It was only when he had spoken to her, that she returned her blank stare back at the Taiyoukai behind her.
“Kagome,” Sesshoumaru’s baritone voice called silkily as his arms tightened around her waist.
Kagome merely glanced over her shoulder at the Taiyoukai behind her for a few seconds, before focusing her attention back on the door again.
“There is nothing out there to harm you. You must rest now,” Sesshoumaru said more firmly as he gently tried to pull Kagome back to lie down on the futon.
At first, Kagome remained unresponsive as she stared keenly at the door, but when Sesshoumaru began to pull her back onto the futon, she slowly relaxed in his hold and watched the Taiyoukai vacantly as he laid her down on a pillow.
As Sesshoumaru started to reach out and adjust the pillow underneath her head, Kagome slowly reached up and placed her small hand on his cheek lovingly; stopping the Taiyoukai in his tracks.
Concerned, Sesshoumaru looked back down at his mate and was only greeted by the sight of her continuous vacant, red glowing stare.
However, there was something about her that made Sesshoumaru feel as though she was trying to tell him something.
Gently, Sesshoumaru reached up to place his large, clawed hand over Kagome’s much smaller one.
“I will be here to protect you,” Sesshoumaru assured softly before Kagome tried to sit up again.
Sesshoumaru was going to try and stop her, but he froze in place the instant he had felt Kagome’s soft lips pressed against his.
Slowly and with a bit of hesitation, Sesshoumaru gave in as he closed his eyes and kissed her back.
Somehow, his demon side seemed to have known what she was trying to say and what she had wanted to hear from him.
Kagome needed reassurance and to be comforted by him; it was the small demonic aura in her that recognized him as her mate.
Because of that, Sesshoumaru knew that his chances of improving his relationship with her actually stood a chance.
Reluctantly, Sesshoumaru pulled away from the tender kiss.
He could feel his own demon side awakening; feeling the urge to truly comfort his pregnant mate as she writhed in pleasure below him.
Sesshoumaru lowered his hands from her waist to the small of her lower back, before he gently eased her back onto the futon.
“Rest,” Sesshoumaru ordered softly, as he leaned over her to plant a chaste kiss on her head.
Even though Kagome wasn’t fully conscious or aware of her actions, their inner most subconscious seemed to realize that they were meant for each other; that they truly understood each other.
Sesshoumaru laid down beside her, draping a protective arm around her slightly round belly as Kagome relaxed in his hold and began to drift off back into sleep.
I will be the one to protect you, from now on...
~*~*~
Pain.
Excruciating pain.
Sango screwed her eyes tightly shut as she fought off the urge to fully wake up, but as soon as the memories of her last moments being conscious returned to her, Sango’s eyes popped open in alarm.
“Well, well, well. You’re alive, after all,” Katsutoshi sneered from his position next her small futon.
Mentally, Sango rolled her eyes as she heard the familiar voice next to her.
How much she longed to silence him, for good.
“Where am I?” Sango demanded as she uneasily tried to sit up.
“Your new room. You belong to me now,” Katsutoshi stated in an obvious manner with a dark smirk.
Sango glared angrily at the smug youkai Captain next to her.
“Like hell I am! If you think I’m going to give in and let you do what you want, you’re mistaken. I won’t go down without fight!” Sango snapped before she winced from her sore, broken ribs.
Katsutoshi chuckled darkly, before he instantly appeared on the other side of Sango’s futon; leaning in closely to the injured taijiya as he captured her chin in between his fingers.
“My, my…you are a feisty little thing. I like that…I like that a lot…” Katsutoshi murmured as he leaned in even closer.
Immediately, Sango reached up to slap him as hard as she could.
Katsutoshi pulled away with his head lowered; his shoulder length dark hair hiding the expression on his face, yet something told Sango that he wasn’t too happy about the assault.
Instantly, Sango found herself face down on the wooden floor; her face practically burning from Katsutoshi’s hard slap on top of the other hard slaps she had received on her bruised cheeks previously.
Silently, Katsutoshi rose from his position and stood over Sango; glaring at the taijiya in disapproval.
“Rule number one of this brothel: no hitting. That includes your customers and even me. Believe me; I’m going to punish you for misbehavior,” Katsutoshi said sternly.
Sango peered up at the tall youkai from her position on the floor, before she rolled on her side and drew herself up in a protective manner.
Katsutoshi smirked.
“Oh no, little taijiya, I won’t punish you like that tonight. I enjoy my women less damaged and I believe you’re going to be quite a treat once I rid you of your innocence,” He said arrogantly as he turned around to head out the door.
“Ah, that reminds me…” Katsutoshi said as he paused at the door.
He turned around to face the injured taijiya on the floor, before reaching in his sleeve and tossing two things that landed in front of her.
One was a small vial of clear liquid and the other was a small ring; Sango looked up at Katsutoshi in confusion.
“I need you to heal quickly and properly. You’re not a miko, like our dear Lady, so you still won’t be able to heal as fast as her, but you will still recover faster than most humans if you drink that,” Katsutoshi explained.
He watched as Sango hesitantly reached out and grabbed the clear vial in front of her; eyeing him suspiciously before she shakily sat back up on the floor.
With one quick motion, Sango opened the small vial and drank its contents.
Then she reached out for the ring.
“…and the ring?” Sango asked exasperatedly.
Katsutoshi folded his arms.
“That monk of yours was foolish enough to attack me while trying to rescue you. Let’s just say that he won’t be able to make that same mistake again,” Katsutoshi said.
Instantly, Sango dropped the ring as she registered Katsutoshi’s words and recognized that it was Miroku’s earring that she was holding.
Sango’s heart dropped as the earring dropped to the floor with a tiny ‘ping’ sound and spun rapidly around on the floor before it finally settled; she stared up at Katsutoshi in sheer horror.
“N-no…y-you didn’t…” She paled as her voice shook and tears started to cloud her vision.
“I did,” Katsutoshi confirmed with dark smile.
Sango brought a hand up to her mouth and tried to shield herself from sobbing out loud, but it still didn’t hold back the flood of tears that managed to leak from her eyes.
That was it.
Sango couldn’t pretend to be strong anymore.
All of her friends were suffering and she was unable to help them; one was even dead.
Miroku.
She had often dreamed of the day where they would finally beat Naraku and live a happy life together in Kaede’s village along with Inuyasha and Kagome; watching happily as their children got to play with each other in a world where there was nothing left to fear.
That dream was now smashed into tiny, little hopeless pieces.
Sango had failed.
She failed to protect Kagome, to protect Miroku and Kami knows what was going to happen to her other three friends.
Kirara was still locked away in a dungeon while Shippo was being held somewhere in the castle and Inuyasha…
Poor Inuyasha.
If he did find out where Kagome was, she knew that her hanyou friend would surely lose that fight.
Inuyoukai were highly possessive and protective of their mates, that in their protective full demonic states, they were nearly impossible to beat.
Even though her heart hurt for all of her friends, her heart truly pained at the loss of Miroku, who lost his life by trying to rescue her.
It was then that Sango realized that Miroku really cared about her.
In his final moments of life, he made the decision to fight for her; to rescue her from harm.
He didn’t have his holy staff with him, so she knew that his only weapon was the Wind Tunnel. The one weapon she made him promise to never use again, because he had nearly lost his life the last time he had used it.
Either way, Miroku knew he was going to sacrifice his life for her rescue; whether the result of his death was going to be his cursed hand or by his opponent.
Sango choked back a sob as she turned her face away from the youkai that had killed her first and only love.
Katsutoshi smirked at the crying taijiya on the floor.
The pathetic human monk had it coming; no one dared to touch his property.
Now the taijiya was an emotional wreck.
Perfect.
If he kept on with this emotional abuse, then the fierce little taijiya would finally give in to him.
Katsutoshi just needed to keep this up long enough for her to start obeying him.
Then maybe, one day, he would tell Sango that the monk was no longer dead and where she could probably find him.
If she could be obedient enough, that is…
~*~*~
Inuyasha fought back tears and anger as he could feel the warm, thick blood trickling through his fingers as he carried the woman he once loved in his arms away from battle.
“J-just hang in there, Kikyo. You’re gonna be alright…everything is gonna be fine …” Inuyasha said as he tried to steady his shaking voice.
It happened out of nowhere and it happened suddenly, even though they had spent a couple of weeks nearly prepared for anything to come at them…how could he have been so careless again?
How could he have been so…weak?
Kikyo weakly placed a hand on Inuyasha’s chest and tried to peer up at his amber eyes, however he had his head lowered so that his bangs hid away the emotions he was experiencing.
“Inuyasha…” Kikyo called out softly.
She didn’t have much time left and as much as Kikyo wanted to spend her last moments being comforted by Inuyasha, he had something more important to do.
“Inuyasha, you must leave me. You have to go back to help Koga and the others…you can’t let him get away this time,” Kikyo said weakly.
Inuyasha shook his head.
“No, Kikyo. I’m not gonna leave you behind like this…I just…can’t. You’re one of the few friends I have left by my side and I don’t wanna lose you, too.” Inuyasha said shakily as he continued to run quickly through the trees.
Kikyo had to stop him; it was already too late for her and she had to make her hanyou friend see reason.
He wasn’t going to like this.
Calmly, Kikyo closed her eyes and with a tiny bit of energy, she lightly zapped Inuyasha in the chest with some of her spiritual powers.
Instantly, Inuyasha stopped and even though it was a tiny bit of energy that Kikyo used, it still hurt him to the point of dropping her onto the warm ground.
“K-kikyo…” Inuyasha struggled to say as he tried to pick himself up from the ground.
When the hanyou was finally back on his feet, he ran towards Kikyo, but stopped when she held out her glowing, blue hand.
Kikyo swallowed hard; this was hurting her too.
She didn’t want to do this, but it was the only way now.
“Go back, Inuyasha. I’m not worth saving anymore. You have to go back and do this for Kagome… you have to find her,” Kikyo said firmly.
It was killing her to say such things, but she made a promise…a promise to help out Inuyasha and Kagome in any way she could.
Inuyasha could feel the burning hot tears threatening to fall as a lump in his throat started to form.
“Kikyo…please…” Inuyasha choked out as he took a closer step towards his former love.
Kikyo shook her head and managed to force a small smile on her face.
Kagome had changed him for the better.
Inuyasha was more caring and more open to the people around him. With Kagome, they had selflessly helped those who were in need of their assistance; causing them to change other people’s lives for the better.
Even though Kikyo knew him longer, she could probably never change Inuyasha the way Kagome did and for that, those two deserved each other because they were good for one another.
Kikyo offered Inuyasha a small, watery smile.
“Leave me, I don’t belong in this world and it’s time for me to go back now. You still have a chance to make the most of your life and make a difference in other people’s lives. So, go now and don’t worry about me, I’ll always be by your side…” Kikyo said softly.
Inuyasha tried hard to swallow the large lump forming in his throat, as he nodded in understanding towards Kikyo before turning away from such a heartbreaking scene.
“…Thank you, Kikyo,” Inuyasha managed to say quietly, before he leapt up into the trees and started heading towards the battle he had originally left.
Naraku…you’re gonna pay for this, I swear it! Inuyasha growled as he continued to leap through the treetops.
Kikyo watched quietly from the ground as Inuyasha leapt back into the forest. Her heart hurt the most, even more than her bleeding, fatal wound, but it was still worth helping Inuyasha.
With a heart wrenching sigh, Kikyo looked up at the sunset colored sky; silently sending up a prayer to Kami to look after her hanyou friend and her reincarnation.
“Goodbye and good luck…Inuyasha.”
~*~*~
The crickets outside were chirping loudly, signaling the sign of nightfall as Sesshoumaru stood silently nearby watching Kagome groan in her sleep; she had just swallowed the last bit of medicine that Atsuko had given for the day.
It had been over a week since Kagome had been conscious…over a week since he had felt her delicately soft lips pressed against his own.
Yet, Sesshoumaru was longing to feel them again, but this time he wanted to feel a real kiss from her.
So when Naoki came to him and announced that she was going to lessen the amount of medicine in order for Kagome to wake up on her own, Sesshoumaru was silently pleased.
Since Kagome had been fed regularly and had rested long enough, she looked healthier than when she had entered into his castle.
Now she looked healthy enough to deliver their pups safely; pups that continuously grew larger in his mate’s womb each day.
Kagome had become nearly irresistible for the Taiyoukai as he fought off the urge to satisfy his needs.
Kagome was three weeks along in her pregnancy, but because she was carrying twins and her pregnancy was towards the end of a second trimester, Kagome’s swollen belly looked as though she was going to give birth at any second.
It was such an erotic sight to see the woman of his dreams swollen with his pups growing inside of her.
Her body had grown very desirable in many ways, that his iron grip on his control nearly slipped a few times, especially when he had to untie her yukata a few more times because her breasts had grown so achingly swollen.
Yet, Sesshoumaru did not touch her and as much as he really wanted to, he quickly covered her naked body with a blanket to prevent such tantalizing thoughts from entering into his mind.
Soon, Kagome would wake up on her own and Sesshoumaru couldn’t wait until he finally had the chance take her once again, especially while she was still pregnant.
“The Lady should be able to wake up soon, my Lord.” Atsuko said reverently with a bow before she stood up from her kneeling position at her Lady’s bedside; gathering all of her supplies together, before it was Sachiko’s turn to come in and watch the sleeping miko.
Sesshoumaru gave a slight nod to the older hawk youkai and proceeded to leave his bedroom to head back to his private study to work.
Things had been peaceful in the Western Lands, now that he was back home and because Kagome spent most of her time resting, Sesshoumaru had enough time to take care of some political affairs.
The matter of Masanori could wait, as the other youkai had not made any more significant moves upon Sesshoumaru’s return, but it didn’t mean that Sesshoumaru wasn’t going to keep a closer eye on his activities.
Although sooner or later, Masanori would make his move…
Kagome had been his main priority upon his return, and because of that he had neglected his duties as a Lord.
He had Jaken to take care of the smaller aspects of his duties, while Katsutoshi and his elite guard took turns patrolling his Lands; however, Sesshoumaru still had important documents to personally take care of.
It wasn’t long before Sesshoumaru had reached the halfway point from his bedchambers to his private studies as he walked through a small open corridor that had little, fragrant gardens on either side of it.
It was a slightly cooler summer night, filled with gentle breezes and the left over warmth from today’s hot weather. Just as Sesshoumaru crossed the open corridor to the other side of the castle, a gentle breeze flowed by, catching his immediate attention.
At first, Sesshoumaru thought for certain he had imagined it, but after delicate sniff, his clawed hand went immediately to Tokijin’s hilt at his side as his amber eyes narrowed.
Naraku… Sesshoumaru thought with a growl.
Suddenly, the Taiyoukai was greeted with nearby footsteps that were walking slowly towards him from behind.
“So, he’s finally shown himself,” Katsutoshi said lazily with a smirk as he stepped out into the moonlit open corridors alongside Sesshoumaru.
Katsutoshi had just returned to the Western Land’s castle from his week-long break, mostly tending to his own affairs back home at his brothel and as soon as he returned back to his duties, Katsutoshi caught the scent of Naraku on the wind.
Naraku was in their territory now…
“You will remain here and make sure that this castle is well-protected, understood?” Sesshoumaru ordered sternly as his amber eyes connected with Katsutoshi’s silver-like ones.
So, it begins… Katsutoshi thought somberly.
Katsutoshi’s smirk faded as he began to decipher the hidden meaning behind Sesshoumaru’s order; he gave a slight nod in understanding.
“Understood, my Lord,” Katsutoshi bowed respectfully before he watched the Taiyoukai head back towards his private bedchambers.
Sesshoumaru wanted to see Kagome one more time before he headed off into battle; this was for her and their children as well as his honor and plan.
As soon as Sesshoumaru entered back into his bedroom, Sachiko anxiously jumped up to her feet and bowed as her Lord returned into the sleeping room where their Lady was still resting.
It didn’t take much to see that he had wished to be alone with her, so with another low bow, Sachiko excused herself from the room and quietly shut the screen doors behind her; waiting outside of the bedchambers for further instructions.
It was true that Sachiko feared her Lord more than ever now, ever since he had killed her mother, but because of that she had become a better servant; making fewer mistakes and taking herself a little more seriously.
Sachiko could never really resent him, even if she tried, because she had greatly admired her Lord, although she was a little more fearful of him now.
Sachiko leaned against the wall as she continued to wait, but when she heard a pair of footsteps coming towards her down the hall, she stood up straight; trying to present herself properly.
However, when Sachiko sensed that it was a familiar aura, she visibly rolled her eyes and sighed at the person approaching her from down the large hallway.
“Oh, it’s only you,” Sachiko said annoyed.
~*~*~
Silently, Sesshoumaru knelt beside Kagome’s side of the futon before he took the opportunity to gaze upon her one last time before leaving.
There was something about leaving this time that felt very different, as though everything was going to change drastically upon his departure.
Kagome was expected to give birth sometime next week; however, the battle with Naraku shouldn’t take that long and if it did, Sesshoumaru would make sure that he would be back before the twins were born.
Sesshoumaru really wanted to rid the world of that evil, annoying hanyou; not only because of what Naraku had done, but also because Naraku had another key component of his plan…
…the other part of the Shikon Jewel.
Sesshoumaru reached in the inside of his haori and pulled at the small chain around his neck; pulling out the small bottle of shards that his mate once carried around hers.
With these remaining shards, Sesshoumaru could lure out the real Naraku to him and he would be able to finally destroy him once and for all; taking the jewel in his possession instead.
Soon, everything would begin to fall into place.
Quietly, Sesshoumaru leaned over Kagome to place a soft kiss upon her pink, full lips. She looked so peaceful sleeping, almost ethereal as she slept in the warm glow of the candle-lit room with her bountiful, glossy, raven colored hair spread beautifully around her on her pillow.
Kagome looked so much different and elegant now than the stubborn, clumsy, oddly-dressed human girl he had first met.
With an inward sigh, Sesshoumaru reluctantly pulled away from her soft lips.
She and their pups would be safe from harm here until he returned home.
As Sesshoumaru pulled away from the kiss, he watched Kagome furrowed her eyebrows together in confusion while she slept; knowing that she was going to wake up very soon since she hardly had any potent medicine in her system.
Gracefully, Sesshoumaru rose to his feet and gave one last look at his beautiful, pregnant mate before heading out of the screen doors.
Just as he closed the large screen doors and began to summon Sachiko to give her orders, he could hear movement in the sleeping room and came to a realization that Kagome was slowly stirring from her sleep.
Kagome could feel him.
She knew it was him the moment he had entered into the room, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t open her eyes and wake up.
His aura was strong and dominating as well as intimidating, yet when she could feel him right by her side, it became gentler…almost soothing.
Almost.
Perhaps, Kagome wouldn’t have felt so angry if the youkai didn’t rape her.
At first, Kagome felt afraid…afraid that the youkai might take advantage of her again or hurt her for trying to protect her unborn baby.
But as he drew closer to her, Kagome felt angry.
She was certain that he had killed her defenseless and injured baby while she was unconscious, despite her plea to save it.
Kagome even remembered her final small plea before she fell unconscious again while still gripping his white colored haori.
White…
All of her dreams while Kagome was unconscious involved the color white somehow. They were vivid dreams, some of them peaceful…while others were mostly memories of that horrible night.
Yet somehow the color white seemed to be the main focus of all of her dreams.
It was as if her dreams were trying to tell her something; as if she was missing some sort of detail…
However, what angered Kagome the most was the fact that he had the actual nerve to kiss her.
He KISSED her!
He turned a simple act of affection into something tainted and that disgusted her the most.
But it was the kiss that actual motivated Kagome to fully wake up…
…because that was the final straw and she couldn’t take it anymore.
Instantly, Kagome’s eyes snapped open as she tried to kick away the covers from the large futon; struggling to adjust her eyesight to the dimly lit room.
As soon as Kagome’s feet touched the warm, wooden floor, she marched angrily to the large screen doors and only paused a moment when she heard a few low voices talking on the other side.
She recognized one of the voices as Sachiko’s because she was the only other young female around, however the other one was definitely male and judging from the powerful aura, Kagome knew that it was her rapist on the other side of the screen.
Swallowing the last bit of nervousness she had, Kagome decided to let her fury take over this situation.
He violated her in so many ways and now all she wanted to do was paint the large bedroom red with his own blood.
Never had Kagome felt such anger and such animosity towards one person, despite her belief that everyone could be forgiven.
Everyone could be forgiven, except for him.
As Kagome furiously slid open the sleeping room’s doors, she spotted him from across the room and her heart sank as he and Sachiko turned around.
White…
There he was…the man who had taken everything good away from her.
If he thought being mated to her was going to be easy, she was going to give him a reality check by making each day of his life a living hell for him.
With newly ignited rage, Kagome stormed from the platform and crossed the room to approach the tall, stoic youkai that watched her warily.
Sachiko swallowed nervously as she took a huge step back with her head lowered respectfully; convinced that the angered Lady was going to unleash her fury and uncertain whether she should stick around.
Furiously, Kagome walked up to the pair of them and what she did next would certainly end up as gossip amongst the servants if this had ever left the room.
Blinded by fury and fueled by everything he had done to her, Kagome walked up without a single word, allowing the hatred in her eyes to do the talking, before she slapped him as hard as she could without warning; injuring her wrist in the process.
Sachiko took another step back as she heard the resounding slap, releasing a shaky breath as she nervously watched the two in front of her; definitely unsure as to what she should do now.
Oh Kami…why me?

A/N: Hey everyone! It's been a busy week here as Disney is preparing for the holidays. Ugh...
Anyway, I barely had the time to write this chapter this week and next week's schedule looks like the schedule from hell, but I will attempt to write the next chapter anyways~ Only for you! ;)
As always, I can't thank you guys enough for reading and reviewing this story. It keeps me going, even when it's 4am and I feel like dying! :)
Oh, for those who are asking about TVC, because I am now merging two different groups of readers by introducing them to one story, here we go:
The Vengeance Crusade (TVC) is a IY fanfiction that follows one of Sesshoumaru and Kagome's offspring seventeen years after this story. However, Kei (their child) doesn't know who he truly is or where he's truly from nor his true lineage, but all of that slowly comes out on his journey to rescue his kidnapped, adopted human sister after their entire town was massacred by one of Masanori's flunkies.
Oh goody~
Yep, that sums it up. Not really...but you get the gist of it, there's other stuffs too. :D
Part 2 of the 3 part series of TVC is coming out sometime after the New Year, but in the meantime, to amuse those who are waiting, I decided to write the other two prequels: SP (Secret Possession) and SO (Secret Obsession).
If you're interested in reading it, I've spent all morning transferring (since 4 am, phew!) some of the chapters onto my website, but I'm not done uploading them all: http://sakuraangelproductions.weebly.com/the-secret-series.html
So let me know what you think of this story so far or of TVC now that it has a new public home and don't forget to check out the forums for this week's topic!
Topic of the Week: Do you think that Kagome might forgive Sesshoumaru once she finds out that her twins are alright or would she look past the fact and hate him anyway? Would that be fair of her if she still hated him? http://sakuraangelproductions.weebly.com/forums.html#/
See you guys next week and have a Happy Thanksgiving~! :3
