Chapter ten, A surprise followed by another.
InuYasha took a deep breath, which he soon regrets as the air clearly smelt of urine
and a lingering scent of paralyzing fear. Sesshoumaru stood by his side, still holding a
clawed hand over the hanyou’s shoulder, now squeezing it lightly to gain his
attention.
Looking up the brothers locked eyes, the question was written within the taller mans
gaze as he stood there emotionless as ever.
“He hit her,” InuYasha offered, straighte his his back to show that he did not regret
his actions.
Sesshoumaru studied his little brother close, he had never seen this happen before as
his demon form clearly responded to InuYasha’s. He had been at home reading, while
waiting for Sorano’s school bus like any normal Wednesday, when suddenly a strange
anger had filled him, and before he knew it he was here - calming a beast that was
his brother before he could go on a killing spree.
“How did you get here so fast?” His hanyou brother now asked, running a clawed
hand through his silver strands. That Sesshoumaru were there at all surprised him,
maybe that alone had broken his transatioation, but that didn’t answer his spoken
question.
“I don’t know.” Sesshoumaru responded honestly, nothing of what he had been
taught could answer that, as they now both stood staring blankly at each other. Their
father had left a whole library of scrolls, books and ancient parchments written in
demon tongue, but nothing of what he had read so far could shine some light on this
strange situation.
The best explanation the older Watanabe brother could come up with right at that
moment was InuYasha’s beast had called for him - and his beast had responded
without his consent. Never before had Sesshoumaru lost control over his actions or
transformation, and to his half brother nonetheless, maybe there were more demon
in InuYasha then he had assumed.
Both brothers cracked out of their thoughts as footsteps could be heard coming
toward their direction. They cast the conceal spell upon themselfs before a woman
rounded the corner walking right up to them.
“Doctor Watanabe?” She spoke, looking from brother to brother slightly wide eyed,
behind a pair of black framed eyeglasses. The clear resemblance between the two
men was undeniable. Wearing a black business suite and her brown hair in a tight
bun she didn’t appear to be with the hospital staff.
“That’s me,” InuYasha stretched out a large hand which she took shaking it lightly.
“I am Miss Nagayoshi, the Yung’s family lawyer.” She explained, making the hanyou
cringe slightly, he seriously hoped that Mr Yung hadn’t reported his recent ‘murder
attempt’ and he was now in trouble.
But no, the woman was only present because Mr Yung wanted to move his son to
another hospital closer to their winter house, and they needed InuYasha to sign him
out from this one.
Knowing perfectly well that it would ease some of the tension that pig had created
on this floor, InuYasha nodded and signed the papers - of course after Sesshoumaru
had insisted on reading them through and then approved.
As the woman now moved down the hallway the brothers decided to speak further
about what had happened later that evening, as Sorano’s bus would come to the
house within less then an hour.
Sesshoumaru went to call for one of his cars while InuYasha stepped inside the room
he had left steaming mad not even twenty minutes ago.
“Kagome,” he spoke softly, trying to gain her attention without scaring her as she sat
there head bowing forward, sleeping. Picking her chin up he quickly notices the dry
tear streaks that had messed up her mascara - now staining her bruised cheeks.

Not even thinking he did what he thought was right, picking her up bridal style
easing out of the quiet room down the hallway until he reached the medical supply
storage for that floor.
Opening the door, while leaning his backwards to support her he quickly enters and
closes it with his foot. It was a cramped space but it contained what he needed as he
now laid her still sleeping form on a abandoned examination bed.
Going through the frosted glass covered cabinets holding first aid kits and more, he
soon locates what he needs and walks back to the bedding. She stirred in her sleep
as he cleaned her face from makeup and dry salt water, silently cussing she was way
to beautiful to wear things like that and wondered if they made her. The answer was
probably yes, and that alone made his blood boil. However, he calmed down as one
of her eyes cracked open revealing a warm chocolate brown orb staring unfocused at
him for a moment before realizing who he was.
Opening her other eye she now followed his movement as he discarded a gauze that
was slightly black from her messed up eye makeup. Reaching for another he applied
a creme that would ease the puffing of the bruises down and eventually remove
them.
Applying the cold sticky substance on Kagome’s skin she winced, screwing her eyes
tightly shut, but soon relaxed as his hand found its way around her neck easing her
off the bed giving him better access.
Not a word was spoken, as InuYasha continued the treatment at the same time
fighting down his inner struggle to go beat the crap out of the man who had done
this to her or stay here and kiss her senseless, neither of the options were available
but both very tempting.
Kagome was the first to speak as he now tossed away the last gauze and went to put
the creme back where he had found it.
“Thank you,” she said so softly it almost wasn’t audible, but he heard it loud and
clear as it rang in his sensitive ears.
“Don’t mention it,” he said offering a smile while walking back to her as she now sat
up in the old examination bed.
Even if her cheeks were bruised and swollen from the previous abuse he could hint
the red tinted blush that creped up, also covering her ears.

Sitting down next to her, InuYasha looked at her with concerned eyes asking if she
was okay. She nodded but refused to look him in the eye as she focused on
something in her lap that was suddenly really interesting.
He leaned forward to see what she was looking at, not getting the hint of her lightly
embarrassed scent, startled by his close approached she looked up only to touch nose
with him.
Their breath mingled as they gazed into each others eyes trying to read the
unspoken questions answer. Kagome swallows hard before taking the first step
leaning forward brushing her lips oh so lightly against his, making him take a quick
shuddering breath.
Before he could even respond to that his pager goes off, scaring the couple so much
they break apart as if been caught doing something bad.
Glancing at the receiver InuYasha bursts into a line of curse words that made Kagome
widened her eyes in a shock mixed surprise.
“Sorry,” he apologizes before getting off the bed, helping her down so she now stood
in front of him on the black tiled floor. Taking her small hand in his warm larger one,
he leads them toward the door where he stops, letting her fingers slip from his.
“This is far from over,” he says with his deep low voice, making her wonder what he
meant by that - but before she could verbalize her question he puts a warm hand
behind her neck pulling her closer toward him. There was no time to protest, which
she found herself not wanting to anyway, for his warm lips pressed down gently on
her moist ones, making her moan in pure bliss.
It took every ounce of InuYasha’s control not to deepen the contact as he ended it
almost as fast as it had begun, moving out the door and down the hallway he soon
disappeared - leaving a breathless Kagome with the aftershock.

Licking his lips, InuYasha could taste her sweetness on them, making him curse the
person who invented the pager - as it had clearly interrupted with something he’d
been craving since the first time he saw her.
But he would have her, now more then ever. There had to be a way for her to get
out of that promise, killing Mr Yung was one of them and that option was awfully
tempting.
But no, he wouldn’t steep that low, there had to be another option maybe Totosai
could assist him with it make the man sign some papers legally saying she didn’t have
to go through with it, or something. Of course that was farfetched but hey! Still a
good option, maybe even the only one at the moment.
Getting down to the ER he is greeted by Arimi again, handing him a clipboard
explaining the situation as he follows her into examination room three.

Sesshoumaru sits in his study uncharacteristically frowning. This whole beast
responding thing was getting on his nerve as he couldn’t come up with an answer
that made much sense.
Books and scrolls lay scattered around the floor and desk as he had attacked them
coming in. His curiosity was peeked and when it was it reminded him of an itch that
couldn’t be cured until he found the right medication.
A soft knock at the door brought him out of his thoughts - a small girls voice seeped
through the cracks.
“Uncle Sess, can I come in?” Unable to deny that pup anything he allowed her to
enter while getting out of his black leather covered chair.
“What is it Sorano?” He inquired, smelling the hint of tears coming from her. She
rushed through the room with an incredible speed but he cached her effortlessly in
his warm large arms.
“Why are you sad?” He now asked, hearing her soft sobs against his shoulder. He
hated when she cried he’d do anything to save her from feeling sad and depressed.
“I miss daddy,” Sorano replied tears running down her slightly pink cheeks, she
hadn’t gotten to see him the day before as much as she had wanted too, he came in
when she was almost asleep and was gone before she awoke.
Sesshoumaru hugs her to him tightly, understanding her need to see his brother.
Glancing at the wall clock in his dim lit library he decides to surprise her, “Well let’s
go see him then.” He says with a stern but gentle voice which he used for her only.
“Really?” Her voice hinting of surprise and happiness, which made him smile. She had
that effect on him, how couldn’t she? Sorano was his little angel.
“Really, now go get your boots and jacket, I’ll be right out.” Settling her down on
the floor she quickly runs out the door only to stop for a second and run back placing
a kiss on his left hairless cheek.
“Thank you Uncle Sess,” eyes glimmering like pure gold, making his flash with the
love he held just for her in his heart.
“Now go, before I do the tickle attack,” he threatened make her eyes widened and
she let’s out a loud squeal “No!!” Using some of her small demonical powers, Sorano
was soon out the door down the hallway.

Kagome sits by Hojo feeling a pang of guilt surge through her, ‘how could she have
kissed him? Why did it feel so right and why does he affect me so?’ Many questions
but few answers. She had intended to keep her promise to the Yung’s, marry Hojo
and forget about InuYasha, but now her world was upside down.
Not only did Mr Yung not return to see his son, which made her confused, he had left
a message for her with one of the nurses. She had yet to open the small envelope as
she now sat there holding it with trembling hands, maybe he knew about the kiss?
Maybe he now intended to kick her and her brother out?
She didn’t care much for herself, but Souta shouldn’t have to pay for her mistakes.
Brushing the tear that escaped her eye she quickly slitted the white paper open,
removing the note that was hidden within.
It read;
‘Kagome, I will move Hojo to a new location. I would appreciate if you did not come
with us, as we will be at the winter home. Don’t think just because I am letting you
stay here, you will be released from your promise, however I will allow you to
continue working at this hospital under one condition - Do not come after us. I will
send word for you when Hojo is awake and you will fulfil your duty to him and the
Yung family. Until then I will continue supporting your brother Souta, but will cut you
off so I suggest you make means. Also, keep that crazy white haired doctor away
from me or you will pay dearly.
Mr Yung.’
Kagome had to blink, was this true? She was half free from her promise. No more
abuse and she could actually work?! Of course it was all way to good to be true as she
was still bound to the promise of marriage. But still... good enough for her, as she
now bounced of the chair, heading downstairs to look for InuYasha.
