Chapter 11: Not Yet...
“On what grounds do you believe that it was my males that have kidnapped your daughter?” Sesshoumaru demanded calmly as he waved away another messenger attempting to pass him a missive from some minor lord. No doubt that it was more nonsense caused by the males of his tribe. Cunt hunting whelps that they were. The problems in their wake were growing more bothersome by the minute. It would be so much more convenient to commission a small-scale genocide. Unfortunately, that was a practice that frowned upon in this region. Lord Kiba growled low but relented when his general put a restraining hand on his shoulder. “A Lady of my court was with my daughter when they were attacked. She said they were surrounded by a ravenous pack of your filthy males before being raped brutally. One of your mutts carted my daughter off to who knows where after leaving one of my concubines traumatized in the middle of the forest.” “How unfortunate.” Sesshoumaru said dryly. His concern for the general’s distress was clearly nonexistent. “She reeked of your males. The stench of your dogs could be recognized over the smell of shit. So I know what she said then was true.” “Hn.” Feeling a certain pair of eyes on him, Sesshoumaru looked up to find Kagome, along his cousins, jump back out of his scrutiny. Of course he knew they were there for a while, but seeing the miko there was…rewarding in a small unexplainable sense. “The most this one can offer, in compensation for your grievance, is sending a party out in search of your daughter.” He offered casually while staring closely at the parted doorway where his miko played peek-a-boo with him. He fought the smirk that threatened to show on his face. It was rare thing for him, but the demon lord couldn’t help but find it…What was that word? Ah yes…cute. “No.” The northern lord stood and shook his general’s hand off his shoulder. “I want YOU to look for my daughter and bring her home safely. It’s the least you could do to compensate me.” He seethed. Sesshoumaru simply glared up at the man standing before him, saying nothing. Three minutes of uneasy silence passed and everyone was on edge waiting for his response to the northern lord’s demands. He supposed it was a fair demand since it was one of his males who instigated this whole mess. Lord Kiba was the overlord of the Northern Territories and this was an offense against not only his pride and lands, but his family. So being the honor bound demon that he was, Lord Sesshoumaru was obligated, though reluctantly so, to compensate the foolish lord. Steeling himself for the headache that sure to follow, he finally granted the northern lord a nod of agreement. The northern sneered as he glared down at the demon lord. “I expect to see my daughter in good health on the morrow boy.” Already, a headache throbbed behind his eyes as he glared up at the northern lord. He was already irritable, more so than usual. So he found it quite a challenge to keep calm and collected as his unusually limited patience wears thin. Perhaps sensing this, everyone but the fool himself, took a hasty step back from his table. Surely they knew that if they wanted to be completely out of harm’s way, they would have to remove themselves from his palace and of course his lands. But he’ll let that be a pleasant surprise for them should their lord continue to try him. The northern lord’s general placed a shaky hand on his Lord’s shoulder. “My lord? I believe we’ve stayed long enough.” Lord Kiba glared one last time at the demon lord before he turned on his heel and pushed passed the guards at the door to storm out of the palace. Wolves. They were such an unnecessary breed canine. The demon lord inwardly scorned as he watched the northern lord leave. “When do you depart in search of his ill-bred offspring my son?” His mother had asked the question so casually that it wouldn’t have been known how much effort she put into insulting the Northern Lord. She never did care for the Northern Lord. In fact, she didn’t care for any other being, no matter how prestigious, other than herself. Sesshoumaru regarded her from the corner of her eyes then looked before him to watch his miko peek at him once again. Without warning a scalding sensation shot through his body like a wildfire making him taut with the intensity of it. The need that he had fought off for the past few hours was becoming too much to bear. It was a battle he was losing by a landslide. “I’ll leave after I consult with my healer.” On that note he stood and stalked towards the doors to where his miko was no doubt panicking. He grinned inwardly. - Watching Sesshoumaru stand regally from his table, Kagome gasped and spun around looking frantically for an escape route. She saw that predatory gleam in his eyes when he spotted her spying on him and now they practically beamed lasers at her as he stalked to the door she stood behind. A part of her wanted to stay here and get carted off to his room to do …things. But another part of her was all run, run, RUN! “What the matter precious? You stopped breathing.” Aimaru asked as he poked her cheek with a claw. Batting his hands away, Kagome watched a messenger approach Sesshoumaru and thanked her lucky stars. She spun away from the door to turn on Aimaru who backed away from her warily. “Healers!” Confused, he looked at her for a moment. “What about them?” “Take me to them.” She dared a glance back into the room in time for Sesshoumaru to catch and hold her gaze. The look in his eyes made her insides flip and twist and her knees weak. She managed to snatch her eyes away from his to grab Aimaru’s wrist. “Now, with purpose, if you don’t mind!” “Why…” “Move it Aimaru!” she was grateful when the demon sighed in exasperation then gathered her in his arms and took off towards the healers. She was safe…for now. - Sesshoumaru was annoyed to watch his cousin carry his miko off down the hall towards healer’s chambers upon exiting his study. She forgets that this was his palace and there was nowhere she could escape to from him. Already, she was unwittingly breaching their contract. But then, he couldn’t help but find himself intrigued about her evasive behavior. Looking over to the side of him he spotted Jabora turned away from him watching his brother carry the miko away. It took him a minute to realize that he no longer stood alone within the doorway. Slowly the smaller demon peered over his trembling shoulder up at him and seemed rooted to the spot with his fear. For a few minutes, Sesshoumaru observed him carefully. It was hard to believe that this cowardly demon was capable of besting him that night. From the overly timid way he carried himself along with the deadly speed of his heart thundering within his chest, the demon lord couldn’t imagine it. And…there was no darkness or any hostility lacing his aura whatsoever. But that could only mean that he was very capable of completely masking his aura and fooling his enemies. “Jabora…” he started and the demon jumped at least foot back in fear. “Y-Yes Lord S-S-Sesshoumaru?!” he asked. Fear made his voice reach an unusually high shrill. Ignoring the ringing in his ears, Sesshoumaru walked down the opposite end of the hall towards the dojo. “Follow me.” Behind him, he could feel the demon weighing his choices between taking off in the opposite direction or following him. The demon lord was surprised when he felt the smaller demon fall into line behind him, albeit grudgingly. - Kagome entered the tall immaculate chambers in awe. “This…” she started in disbelief as she scanned the luxuriant décor or the rooms. “…is the healing chambers?!” It looked more like a spa. Gorgeous comfortable loungers and tables littered with platters of food and drink, and even beautiful hand servants standing silently near the doorways at the ready. “This was all my doing.” Aimaru said arrogantly as he plucked a confectionary treat from one of the trays the women held. “I managed to talk my dearest Aunt into making these chambers more accommodating for the family of this household. I have such a low tolerance for pain so it was only fair to be compensated for the inconvenience.” It didn’t really surprise her that he was just that arrogant. Sighing, Kagome stepped around Aimaru up to the one of the nicely dressed occupants who without a doubt was a healer. “Excuse me…” she started with a low bow and a polite smile. It was hard to keep a polite smile when the man promptly dismissed her to resume what he was doing. “I said…excuse me.” She tried again in more firm tone that finally granted her the healer’s reluctant attention. “What do you want human?” the wizened demon said irritably. His nose was high enough in the air to know that he was overdue for a good pluck. “It would be wise to watch your tone with Sesshoumaru’s favorite, healer. He’s not of a mind to forgive impertinent demons.” Aimaru said cheerily. Instead of heeding his words, the healer sized her up haughtily. Now the man seemed to resent her more than before. Exasperated, the miko glared up at Aimaru who blinked innocently down at her. She didn’t give two damns how the healer acted towards her as long as he kept his hands to himself and cooperated. She knew her presence here was highly unwelcomed and his word’s seemed more instigative than helpful. “I’m here to inquire about our Lord’s health regimen…” she started professionally before she was cut off rudely. “And what does a low born human know about caring for a demon lord’s health?” The old healer balked incredulously. Sighing patiently, Kagome kept a polite smile as she spoke. “Enough that I was able to help Lord Sesshoumaru two days ago when you couldn’t.” She couldn’t help the cheeky smile at the sight of the healer’s defeated glare. “Indeed…” he huffed as he sat down at a low table and looked to her expectantly. She took a place at a table while Aimaru lounged lazily on the closet lounger after beckoning a hand servant to wait on him. The shameless womanizer. Kagome got straight to the point since pleasantries where unnecessary. “I want to know more about this strange illness that seems to be affecting only the males of this region. Is it contagious?” The man again looked her up and down as if contemplating relaying any information then finally relented with a sigh. “We are not sure. It seems to ail our particular males randomly and none we have examined could tell us how and when the symptoms started due to slight memory loss. This all only happened a few moons ago. And even then it seemed…” “An unlikely occurrence?” Kagome offered lightly. “Yes…The Moon Inu’s were never known to fall ill to any illness. So to suddenly fall into such a state implies a possible outside intervention of sorts. It’s hard to speculate that this is a natural occurrence due to ill-breeding.” While it was a little difficult to follow his way with words, Kagome nodded in agreement. She understood most if not all of it. “I agree. Does the Western Land have any enemies harboring hard feelings toward you guys?” “Hard feelings?” the man asked confused. “Uh…hostility or resentment of some kind. Like neighboring territories out for his lands?” She tried again. The man snorted as if insulted. “Hardly human. With an exception to the allying Eastern territories, the West has always acted as mediator between the Southern and Northern territories. Lord Sesshoumaru, as well as his sire before him, has always found it more rational to police the neighboring territories rather than seize and control them. And because we have such a well equipped stronghold under the rule of such a powerful lord, no neighboring territories have declared a major war with us. Even the alleged high ranking humans residing in the West found it in their best interest to be content with their status here. Too tolerant of their presence in my opinion.” The demon said haughtily. “But someone has it out for Lord Sesshoumaru. And it has to be someone with a hell of an influence to be to attack most if not all of the Moon Inu’s with such a thing. That would be considered biological warfare.” At the look on his winkled face, Kagome went through the grueling process of explaining bio warfare the best she could. When he finally reached an understanding of sorts, the man seemed to regard her differently. “Knowing this, what can you, a mere human, do about this issue?” “Well for starters…” Kagome looked curiously in Aimaru’s direction to find him chuckling seductively while the hand maiden placed another piece of fruit in his mouth. Rolling her eyes, she looked to the healer who too looked annoyed. “…I’m a miko and we are known for our healing abilities. While I’m not fully trained, I could still help in finding a way to cleanse or in the least, cure whatever it is that ails your males.” “That would mean we will have to discern whether this phenomenon is an illness or a curse. If it is a curse then your assistance would be valuable. If not, your limited healing knowledge will only hinder us.” Humming thoughtfully, Kagome mulled over everything. It seemed more than likely that something or someone planted this illness among the Moon Inu people. And it only affects the males. So it seemed like a controlled entity. Then there was the fact that Sesshoumaru seem to have the same problem as his males now and that this was an illness meant to target their libido and state of mind rather than their actual health. Sesshoumaru is still strong as ever just a little…whacked in the head. “It has to be someone with political pull to commission such a large scale hit out on the Western males. Someone …important.” “Not necessarily.” Aimaru said casually as he flirted shamelessly with the maid he now had in his lap. The woman went from professional maiden to a giggly call girl. Frowning, Kagome looked over at the demon confused. “What make you say that?” “Naraku…” he started after he bit and chewed thoughtfully on a piece of fruit offered him. “He was a one man entity and still managed to cause disturbance of major proportions throughout the lands. He wasn’t even an official lord.” “But he’s dead.” Aimaru gave her an interesting look before suddenly smiling. “The point is precious, is that the one who wishes the demon lord any ill-will does not necessarily have to be someone with social power. It could very well be someone as insignificant as a lowbred demon or a fly on the wall.” Kagome relented and sighed. “Good point.” Well so much for narrowing down the suspects. Now what? She will have to ask Sesshoumaru some questions next time she saw him…preferably around other people so he knows to behave himself. Hopefully he knows to behave himself. So far he’s been a complete rascal. “If there is nothing at the moment you can contribute to our search for a cure you are delaying my progress.” The older demon said snidely before he rose and promptly left the table before Kagome could say anything. Watching him leave, she contemplated. While she learned a lot, she really didn’t get anywhere in figuring out what was going on with this palace. Irritated, Kagome jumped up from the table to pace around. She’s a miko. Couldn’t she just purify whatever was in Sesshoumaru’s system? Of course she wouldn’t attempt anything without proper training first and some guidance form Miroku. She would be causing more harm than good. And the last thing she wanted to be was a threat to the demon lord. So far her priorities are…One; questioning Sesshoumaru about his symptoms and how he became ill. Two; depending on what Sesshoumaru tell her; consult with Miroku about how she can assist him with her holy abilities. And three; find the culprit and eliminate the threat. Sound easy enough. But dealing with Sesshoumaru may prove…difficult. “Well this was productive.” Aimaru said as he stood from the couch letting the hand-servant on his lap tumble over on the lounger. She glared icily up at Aimaru who only winked down at her. Suddenly she seemed smitten with the demon again. “Yes…very.” Kagome agreed as she walked out of the healing chambers. “Take me to him.” she said steely waiting for Aimaru to lead the way. The demon had other plans when he stopped to look back at her. “You sure you don’t want make another run for it, precious? You seem so reluctantly to deal with my brother.” He cocked his head. “Is he really that bothersome?” “Do you care?” Kagome crossed her arms and cocked a brow up at the vain demon. He didn’t strike her as someone who concerns himself with other people’s problems. “Not at all.” He said as he pivoted quickly on his feet in a swish of billowy black silk and walked briskly down the hall. “But it was out of principle that I appear to. Other than that, I suggest not to expect too much from me.” Kagome chuckled as she followed him. - Sesshoumaru took another lazy swing at the demon and had to draw back his blade to keep from decapitating him for the 20th time. The smaller demon moved with such poor planned timing and seemed painfully untried in battle. And his movements were sluggish in caparison to his newly recruited soldiers. “Here.” Sesshoumaru said pointing his blade to the floor before him after watching the smaller demon cower pathetically. The demon slowly made his way to stand timidly in front of him, keeping his eyes glued to the floor. “Look at me.” When he did, Sesshoumaru suddenly wrapped them both tightly in his youkai to monitor his every emotion, movement and even his heart rate as he locked cold gold eyes with Jabora. To intimidate, he allowed hostility to rush through his aura making Jabora whimper pathetically. “You will tell me why you attacked me that night.” Shaking uncontrollably unable to look away from him, Jabora shook his head as tears misted his eyes. Sesshoumaru felt his heart rate accelerate. But his aura was filled with confusion. “Answer me.” He demanded quietly. “What ever happened wasn’t m-m-me…” Jabora finally whispered in a tight voice. Watching him closely, Sesshoumaru didn’t see nor sense the tell-tale signs of deceit. There was no stutter in his heart rate or any dilation of his pupils. “What. Happened.” “I-I was drinking w-with Aimaru until I p-p-passed out. I woke up to find y-y-you standing over me ready to s-s-sss…” he started to stutter terribly annoying the demon lord. His aura around them tightened around the smaller demon’s body nearly crushing him under the intensity of it. “Slay me!” He suddenly wailed as he crumbled to the ground to cradle his throbbing head in his shaking hands. Looking down impassively to the sobbing demon on the floor in front of him, Sesshoumaru relented in his resolve about his suspected treachery…for now. At the moment his claim seemed legit; but only at that moment. “Sesshoumaru?!” He suddenly heard his name being called across the nearly vacant room of the dojo. Behind him he can hear the speedy steps of his miko approaching him along with the languid stroll of his cousin. “What is wrong with you?! She yelled as she rounded him into his line of vision. Sesshoumaru said nothing as he watched her crouch down to place a placating hand on the demon’s shoulder while cooing nonsense to him. She glared up at him as she rubbed the demon’s back soothing. Personally, the demon lord didn’t see what the problem was since the demon was still breathing. Aimaru was standing beside him looking down at his brother curiously. He didn’t seem at all concerned for his broken state. “I take it you’re content with result of his interrogation being that he’s still alive and well.” “Hn.” “Well?!” His miko seethed at his cousin and fought the urge to toss her over his shoulder and storm up to their room. She was so becoming when she was irate. “Does he look well to you? This is you little brother here you’re talking about.” Cocking his head like he always does, Aimaru frowned down at her truly perplexed. “And how is that of any significance?” Fed up, Kagome huffed and hauled the still sobbing demon to his feet. After carting the shaky demon to the door she looked back at the Sesshoumaru and Aimaru standing there watching with avid interest. “Well come on, don’t stand there growing dust. Take us to his chambers.” It seemed to be completely lost on her that she was helping a demon who had no qualms declaring his hatred for her kind at every given chance. It was extraordinary, really. Still bewildered by her actions, Aimaru finally led the miko to the demon chambers with Sesshoumaru following closely behind. - Kagome gently urged a traumatized Jabora to lie down in his bed then pulled the covers over his trembling shoulders. It had to be a bad thing to shake and mutter incoherent nonsense like that. He was so far gone that he seemed completely oblivious to that fact that he allowed a human to help him all the way to his room. What the hell did Sesshoumaru to him? Standing from the bed, Kagome turned on her heel to face to the two tall Inu standing there looking …stupid. That’s what they looked like; stupid. Like they couldn’t make heads or tails of what just transpired between her and Jabora. Was helping one another so alien a concept that it was wonder to witness? She wouldn’t doubt it. “You…” She pointed to Aimaru who cocked a brow at her tone. “Watch your brother. And you…” She then pointed to Sesshoumaru. “Will take me to your room so we can talk…And only talk am I clear?” The demon lord said nothing when he turned on his heel and escorted her to his chambers. Kagome threw Aimaru a warning glare as she passed him to follow after Sesshoumaru. They were just entering his chambers when she found herself against the delicate wall of the sliding doors. It happened so fast that the world spun at a blur before the demon lord made himself comfortable between her trembling thighs that traitorously tightened around his hips. Bad thighs. Bad. “I could’ve have sworn that I said there will only be talking when we got here Sesshoumaru.” Her thighs tightened as her ankles linked at the back of his thighs. Thick strong thighs she might add. A brow rose arrogantly as a boyish grin spread across his face. “Had you insisted upon my agreement to your terms then yes, This one would have been compelled to follow your wishes to have a simple discussion.” “Does everything have to be trickery and deceit with you?” Kagome finally managed to unhook her ankles and struggled in the demon lord’s arms. She wanted out of his arms now that she had the willpower. “Withholding your responses and using less commonly used terms isn’t trickery or deceit my little miko.” He chuckled when she scowled at him. He nuzzled her cheek as he growl low in his chest pressing close against her making her jittery on the inside. Yes…No. She meant NO! “No seriously Sesshoumaru. We have very important things to discuss mainly about your males and most importantly you.” She watched him lift his head to regard her silently. His face was unreadable as he slowly released her to unstable feet. “Proceed.” He said before he turned away to walk toward his wardrobe. Kagome quickly spun around when he pulled his haori down his broad shoulders. The heat under her clothes became suddenly suffocating. “I n-need to ask you some questions.” When he said nothing, she turned around to watch him release his sash allowing his hakamas to fall down those muscled columns called legs. Gasping she turned back around to stare wide eyed at the door, her heart thundering in her chest at the knowledge that he was totally naked behind her. “Q-q-question one...How did you become sick?” The demon lord said nothing for a moment and all Kagome could hear was faint rustling of clothing. “I had no symptoms of this illness until I was attacked many nights ago.” A frown of confusion was on Kagome’s face when she peeked at him from the corner of her eye. He was in a new pair of hakamas slowly tying his sash around his hips. “What happened that night?” “What happened is irrelevant. The important thing is the assailant attacked me with some kind of poison that have since kept me in a constant state of arousal. My symptoms are similar to that of most of the males of my tribe. So that led me to believe they were poisoned as well.” “If your illness didn’t happen by a natural means, it’s safe to assume that your male’s illness weren’t either?” “Correct.” “So it a curse then?” “No spells or incantations were casted that night. Instead it was an attack much like my Poison Flower Claw only instead of killing its victim, it makes them want to mate with a ferocity that’s practically soul consuming.” “Hmm.” Kagome was so lost in her thoughts she barely noticed that the demon lord stalked silently up behind her. “Demon poison. Not a sickness or a curse, just an ailment in need of an antidote. The good thing is that it’s a demon poison so I may be able to help with cleansing your system of it then. Like a purification treatment.” “Indeed.” Jumping at the sudden proximity of his voice, Kagome pun around to come face to face with the demon lord’s handsome face. He lowered his head to stare intensely into her eyes. “So how you propose we go about this then?” Kagome’s good sense decided to leave her as she watched Sesshoumaru’s heart shaped lips draw closer to her own. “Uh…Uh I don’t know.” She stumbled verbally and held her breath when his lips were just a hair away from hers. On their own violation, they parted expectanly. “Hn.” The demon lord suddenly turned away and pulled a haori around his shoulders. It took a minute for Kagome to snap out of her lust induced stupor to glare at his back. Sneaky dog. “So who was it that attacked you?” The demon lord regarded her silently for a moment as he secured his armor over his torso. “I once thought it was Jabora. Not only did he have plausible reason to attack me, the attacker shared his appearance.” “Someone set him up?” “It would seem so. He is pathetically weak and I sensed no deceit in his scent or aura when I questioned him. But there still a small possibility that it could have been Jabora himself who’s hides his true ability and his ill intentions well.” “Ah…” He was right, Jabora did appear weak and feeble minded. Then there was the fact that the demon was still living there. Either he had a pair on him to think he hid his treachery well enough to feign the setup victim or he was the actual victim of a poor setup. But like Sesshoumaru said, there was still a possibility that he done it and was damn good at pretending to be the victim. Naraku managed to fool many innocent people into turning against each other when he was alive. So it’s not impossible for someone else to either. Growling, she shook her head vigorously as she ruffled her hair around her head in aggravation. God, this was like a badly written mystery. People and demons in this time had nothing better to do but kill and plot each other’s end on a daily bases. Sheesh. “You seem agitated mate.” She heard him say over her head and she snapped her head up to glare at him. “I’m not your mate Lord Sesshoumaru.” she groused. “Not yet anyway.” He walked away to leave the room and she stormed after him. “There is no yet!” When the servants in the hall stopped to glare at her she bowed her head in apology and hissed low instead. “And don’t go around declaring that in public. You know that isn’t allowed in your society.” “Yes, it is my society. So if I wish to mate a human then my society has no choice but to accept it.” he said arrogantly. “Could you say that any louder Sesshoumaru?!” she sighed in exasperation. He suddenly stopped as if he had to think about it. He wouldn’t. She screamed in her head as dread pooled in her gut when the demon lord turned to her. “If I wish to mate…” he started loudly to her horror forcing her to scream over his words in desperation. “MY GOODNESS LORD SESSHOUMARU!!” She screeched looking nervously around to the people covering their sensitive ears. “You’re late leaving to find the Northern lord’s daughter. Off you go. You mustn’t keep him waiting.” She said with tight cheerfulness and a tightlipped smile. EVIL DOG! She cursed his named as he grinned down at her. “Yes, we mustn’t keep him waiting my dear miko.” “I’m. Not. Yours.” She hissed low. “Not. Yet.” He copied her tone with a smug gleam in his eyes as he reached over to pull her hand through his arm to escort her towards her chambers against her will. She wanted to choke him. GODS he was impossible. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
