Revolted with his mistake, Sesshoumaru got up from his chair and walked towards the window. How he could make such a slip-up, he didn’t know. He was always precise and ensured success in what he did. This little encounter with the miko should have gone a different way, now that he had a clear mind.
Again, his reasoning went straight back to the “spell” she had put on him. He believed that it had worn off now, however she did it. Maybe he could take advantage of this moment and surprise her. If she had been willing before, he did not have reason to believe she wouldn’t be now. In fact, she would most likely be more than willing, seeing as he saved her from death in more ways than one.
Yes. He would do it. However, there was still one thing to deal with: Kagura.
He would need to ensure that they would not be interrupted. That meant he needed to get her out of the mansion, where she wouldn’t be able to tell what was going on. He would send her off onto a mission to one of the clans they were in charge of to check up on things. Something simple and easy. She had done it many times before, so it would not be out of the ordinary. He just hoped it would give him enough time.
That still didn’t fix a different problem he would most likely face. If everything went as planned and he did get what he was after from Kagome, he figured that he’d need to ensure that she stay by his side. Of which would mean getting rid of Kagura and all of her assets.
No. Until he knew exactly how much power he would be able to gain from the miko, he would not throw away what he currently had. It would need to be kept private until he found out the extent of strength he’d receive from Kagome versus Kagura.
Satisfied with his few moments of reconciliation, Sesshoumaru stepped away from the window and walked towards the door to exit his corridors. There was still another problem he needed to deal with.

Shivering, Kagome pulled more blankets on top of her. Her body felt like ice. She pulled her legs up to her chest and wrapped both arms around them. Sesshoumaru had brought her straight to her room this morning, and Kagome had been able to do nothing but sleep all day. She woke up off and on throughout the day, and was now fully awake but absolutely freezing. She just could not get warm enough.
Glancing over to a clock on her nightstand a maid had brought for her, it read that it was around 11 PM. She wondered if she would have to do her duties in the morning, per usual. She hoped that Sesshoumaru would let her have the day off, so she could get back onto a regular sleeping pattern. Not to mention, she felt so groggy, exhausted, and freezing that she just didn’t think she’d be able to do it. She figured she’d probably end back up in the hospital wing like had once already.
Kagome was torn from her thoughts when she heard a faint knock at her door. Surprised, Kagome glanced again at her clock. Was she just imagining the time? Who could be here at this hour?
Clearing her throat, Kagome responded “Who is it?”
Hearing no response, Kagome sat up and stared at the door. Had I just imagined that?
A second later, the door handle began to turn and push the door open. Unconciously sucking in a breath, Kagome tightened her grip on the blankets, pulling them up to right under her chin.
A dark figure appeared and shut the door behind them quietly before making their way over to her bedside.
Kagome could not make out the figure and began to become more frightened as they neared. Thinking of nothing else, Kagome screamed, “Sesshoumaru!“
Grabbing for her alarm clock, she threw it at whoever had been sneaking around in her room. The person easily dodged her attack, and came to right next to her. They grabbed one of her hands in their own and leaned in close to her face, speaking darkly, “You’d best not do that,” the voice was feminine and somehow very familiar to... Something.
Kagome could see her face clearly now, and had recognized her as Kagura. Feeling a bit relieved, her shoulders slumped and sighed internally. She had been worried it was someone trying to kill her!
“Oh, my Lady. I’m sorry, I thought it was someone else,” Kagome pulled her hand away from Kagura’s grasp. However, Kagura was till holding onto it tightly.
Kagura grimaced at the thought of the impudent female shouting out her mate’s name. It disgusted her. All more reason for her to be there now.
Kagura finally let go of Kagome’s wrist, coming out of her thoughts. She put on a much friendlier voice than before, “Oh, don’t be silly. There’s no one that can get in here. I just came to give you some medicine I know will make you feel much better,” Kagura had been carrying a tray in her other hand, which had a cup, a little bowl of soup, and a napkin.
“Wow. Thanks, Kagura. You didn’t have to do that,” Kagome felt a bit uneasy about Kagura’s personal caretaking. There was something just wrong about it. “Would you mind turning on the lights?” Kagome asked.
Kagura set the tray of food onto Kagome’s lap, “I will do no such thing until you’ve had your medicine. I know it tastes bad, but it’s for the best,” Kagura grabbed the mug and lifted it to Kagome’s lips.
Kagome grabbed the mug before forced onto her and pushed it away from her mouth. There was something off here. Kagura making personal visits to see to her health? Forcing her to drink something in the dark in the middle of the night? Why did just holding the mug feel wrong?
“Be a good girl and drink,” Kagura’s voice sounded a little more forceful than it had before. She pushed the mug to her mouth again.
Kagome eyed Kagura before looking down at liquid in the mug. Despite it because dark in the room, it had looked pitch black.
Not wanting to cause more trouble, Kagome inhaled deeply and plugged her nose before lifting the mug to her lips and drinking the essence within. Wanting to get it over with, she continued to drink it all until there was nothing left.
Kagura’s mouth twitched into a grin as she watched the girl before her finish off the last drop. Quickly, Kagura took the mug from Kagome and the tray off her lap. She couldn’t hold in the smallest giggle of satisfaction as she made her way out of the room as fast as possible.
Kagome stared after her. That had been weird. Kagura comes in bringing medicine for reasons she believed to be worry for her health. Kagura forces the drink onto her, then leaves as soon as she can? Something wasn’t right.

Instead, Sesshoumaru motioned for one of the guards to go check instead. He wouldn’t fall for the trap so easily.
Minutes passed and the guard never came back. Eyes slitting, he pushed open the doors, exiting his corridors and found the guard to be standing right there, guarding the doors.
“I believe this Sesshoumaru told you to find out what was going on in the miko’s room?” Sesshoumaru’s voice sounded somewhat angry.
“Hn.” Sesshoumaru walked past the guard and made his way towards Kagome’s bedroom.

Kagome had laid back down in bed after Kagura left. She lay there awake, worried if she had made a mistake. Worry formed in the pit of her stomach, and she placed a hand over it, clutching her shirt tightly as she hoped that nothing bad would happen. She wouldn’t do something to hurt me… Would she?
She abruptly sat up as her door was thrown open, gasping slightly at the suddenness. Facing towards the door once more, this time she immediately recognized who had entered. She just knew. She could feel it. The worry had transformed into a longing. Something she was unfamiliar with outside of his presence. She stared straight at him as he moved towards her.
He came to the foot of the bed before climbing up onto it like a predator hunting its prey. His golden eyes pierced the darkness of the room, his gaze settled upon her and looked nowhere else.
His advancements continued as he slowly moved up her legs and past her hips. His movements came to a stop when his hands were placed on either side of her shoulders. Kagome had to lay down so as not to bump into him. Her lower body was on her side, legs still pulled up close to her, making it easy for both of his legs to cage her in.
His face leaned in close to hers, moving down to her mouth where he could smell the lingering essence of the drink. He could feel its darkness the closer he had made his way to her bedroom. Now, he was sure there was something wrong. She had been poisoned.
He lowered his face to her neck, then continued down to the valley of her breasts. Kagome felt heat rush to her face as memories of the time in the hospital wing came to mind. It was almost exactly the same as before. He continued, though, going down all the way to her abdomen. Kagome’s hands gripped onto the sheets next to her as he dared to go lower.
Sesshoumaru smelled the spike in arousal and refrained from growling in approval. He needed to focus. He wasn’t here to take her. He was here to ensure her life wasn’t at stake.
He could feel a dark aura within her and was unsure of how to go about getting rid of it. He, himself, was darkness. He was a demon.
Coming back up to face her, he looked down into her face for any signs of illness. She had her face pressed against her pillow with her eyes shut tight. She was biting her lip and looked like she was trying to hold onto something with all her might before breaking down.
Sesshoumaru took this as a sign of pain.
“Miko, where does it hurt?”
Kagome opened her eyes and turned to look at him, “What do you mean?”
Kagome’s mouth opened slightly at the realization that she had been right. Kagura did try to poison her. “I… I did drink something.”
“Where did you receive this ‘drink’?”
Not wanting to cause a problem by saying his mate’s name, she was unsure of how to answer. “Uhh… I…”
“Do not lie to me, I will know,” He stared down at her with his usual poker face, but his voice gave off slightly-angry vibe.
Swallowing hard, Kagome answered, “Kagura came not too long ago to my room and told me to drink this ‘medicine’. She was very suspicious about the whole thing.”
Sesshoumaru growled deep in his chest at her confession. It had made sense, Kagura was the overly-jealous type. But for her to dare try and kill a prisoner being used for their clan’s benefit? She would not get out of this easily.
“Are you not in pain at all?” Sesshoumaru tried to hold back the rage he felt within.
Kagome shook her head, “No. I was worried at first, but I’m really not feeling anything.”
Sesshoumaru leaned back, “Move the sheets, Miko.”
Blinking up at him, Kagome believed she didn’t hear him right, “W-what?”
“The sheets. Move them out of this Sesshoumaru’s way.”
Biting her lip again, Kagome complied. She moved the blankets down as far as she could until her knuckles hit his leg. She flinched at the heat emitting from him. Much unlike her, where the cold air caused her to shiver relentlessly.
Sesshoumaru placed the palm of his hand over her stomach, right below her breast. The dark aura he had felt before was no longer there. It had completely disappeared. Confused, he moved his hand over to different parts of her stomach. He sensed nothing, still.
Leaving his hand where it was, he looked up to Kagome, “Miko, I believe you absorbed this dark energy or expelled it completely.”
“Is that possible?”
“There are many things possible for a Miko. However, this does not rid of the fact that someone attempted to kill you.”
Kagome shivered, both from the cold and the thought of someone trying to end her life.
Thoughts of being back out in the blizzard where someone had first tried to end her life sped through her mind. Somehow that incident and this one felt related.
“Miko, I will deal with the rest. You will abstain from your duties tomorrow morning and will focus on your health. If you feel any pain, there will be someone outside your doors.”
Without another word, Sesshoumaru left. He moved so fast, she didn’t know it was even possible. She shouldn’t have been surprised, though. He was a TaiYoukai.
Kagome hadn’t even noticed that him being so close had warmed her up more than any of these blankets could, and reveled in the thought. She pulled the blankets up over her and laid back down to try sleeping once more. Maybe this time she wouldn’t be interrupted by someone with murderous intent, or by sexy demon lord’s climbing over her. Though, she wouldn’t mind the second one.
~~~~
Sesshoumaru felt anger similar to the previous day when she had almost been killed. There was no way these two incidents weren’t connected. They had to be. There’s no way that someone outside of the clan would know her whereabouts, and there’s no way that someone outside of the clan would be able to get inside the fortress unnoticed, trying to kill someone.
Kagome said it had been Kagura who brought her the drink. He recalled his guard also mentioning that Kagura said to go back to his post. If he hadn’t been so distracted by Kagome’s well-being, maybe he would have had the sanity to actually look for Kagura’s scent. This onna is going to be the death of me.
Why he was taking all of these matters into his own hands, he was somewhat unsure. However, seeing as Kagome was a miko and asset to their clan, it directly affected him. It had nothing to do with wanting to protect her. Not one bit.
Frustrated, Sesshoumaru went straight to where he believed Kagura was. She had some questions to answer. And she better have the right ones.
Again, I’m sorry for this long wait guys! Like I said, I was having some trouble connecting the turning point, so it took me a while to brainstorm how to go about it. But, thanks to some close friends’ encouragement, I finally sat down and just wrote! So, you can thank them.
