Prompt Summary: Bankotsu makes last minute preparations.
Bankotsu watched him leave in silence before really thinking about what he had just said. Much like himself, Jakotsu didn't have anyone in the world that cared about him; he was completely alone. Neither had parents or kin, nor a home to call their own. Honestly he wasn't sure which was the worst one off. The one who had watched his parents be slaughtered right before his young eyes or the one who had been abandoned by both living parents.
But as he thought these thoughts, Bankotsu's mind began to wander back to years long past and knew he had to stop himself before he fell too far. If not, he would not be in any shape that night to do what he needed to do. There would be no way to uplift his spirits after he began to remember memories of his mother; at least not for a few days. Shaking his head clear of depressing thoughts, Bankotsu turned his attention to his person as he stood up off of the bed and began to pace the room.
The jingling of his coins did not go unnoticed by him and he knew they could seriously hurt his chances of getting away clean that night. The last thing he needed was to make so much noise that he woke up his target from a drink induced sleep. Removing the coin purse from his belt, he began searching his room for a safe place to stash it. Noticing the wardrobe on the far wall for the first time, he got down on his hands and knees and searched the floor boards underneath it until he found one he could pry open with his fingers.
Dropping his coin purse into the hole, he quickly searched himself to make sure there was nothing else that might give him away, before placing the board back down when he found nothing else beside his gun. And that he would certainly need to take with him. Making his way back over to the balcony, Bankotsu opened the door and stepped into the doorway as he surveyed the town below. Up and down the street, city workers were lighting the lanterns to light the way for travelers as dusk settled over the town.
Deciding he would leave first thing in the morning as long as everything went according to plan, Bankotsu stepped back into the room and locked the door behind him. Turning back around, he found Jakotsu coming back into the room, locking the front door. As he saw the young man born into the wrong gender, abandoned by those who should have loved him, Bankotsu couldn't help but feel sorry. Sure if things had been different he would be doing something to help him, but as it was he had far too much he needed to do about his own life to worry about another's. Maybe in the next life.
