"Sesshomaru?"
"Yes?" He had pushed her too hard today. She had done very well, now able to easily call upon her youki. The problem was that she still had very little control over how much youki she expended. They had since been sitting in silence, her head resting on his upper arm, like it had the night before.
"Do you think it would be okay to go into the village? I would very much like to meet Rin."
Sesshomaru chuckled."We don't have to go into the village for that. She is traning as a taijia and will be just on the other side of the forrest."
"Thank the kami. I am a bit worried that InuYasha will make me fodder for Tessaiga if I get too close to the humans here." It made her sad that InuYasha held such a prejudice against her because her demon half contained panther blood but she understood why. She had heard the stories of the Inu no Taisho's battles with the panther's and later those stories were relived through his son's. She hoped that one day he could view her as a friend and ally. Sakura had really liked Kagome and would like to see her again if InuYasha would permit it. She would have to ask Sesshomaru to take her to their home soon. Sesshomaru suddenly stood, pulling her with him. She was still a bit weak from her earlier exertions and thought about asking him to just carry her but thought better of it.
"Should he try anything of the sort, I will kill him."
She chuckled at him as they started to walk towards the edge of the forrest. "Why do you hate him so much?"
"Contrary to what everyone may believe, I do not hate InuYasha. I let go of my hatred for him during the battle with Naraku."
"Then why do you two fight so much? Would it not be easier to simply get along as brothers?"
"It is our way." He stated. It was only partially a lie. The truth was he simply did not know how to embrace the idea of accepting InuYasha fully as his brother. Rin had opened his heart to compassion but to show that compassion to a brother that he had repeatedly tried to elliminate proved to be a very difficult task.
"I see." Deciding not to press him any further on the subject, they finished the rest of the walk in silcence.

Rin got so excited when her lord stepped through the treeline that she mised Kohaku completely and her newly forged sword dug into the ground. She had to hold on tight to keep from flipping over it and landing on the ground herself. Sesshomaru-sama had brought someone with him today. The lady had not been here yesterday and Rin wondered where she had come from and who she was. She pulled the sword from the ground and walked with Kohaku to meet them.
"Sesshomaru-sama, you seem to have brought someone with you today." She smiled and turned to the lady standing next to him."My name is Rin. This is my taijia trainer Kohaku. It is a pleasure to meet you." She pointed towards Kohaku and they both bowed low in respect. Looking back up, Rin could see that the lady was smilng and was surprised we she returned her bow with one of her own.
"Rin. It is a great pleasure to meet the young lady that helped this one..."She nudged Sesshomaru, causing him to growl lightly at her "... to find his way back to his heart. My name is Sakura. I am an old friend of Sesshomaru-sama's."
"Sakura-sama, may I ask you a question?" Rin was incredibly curious about her ears. The looked just like InuYasha's which meant that she was some sort of hanyou but she didn't know what breed.
"Of course Rin."
"What breed of hanyou are you?"
Surprised at the question at first, Sakura almost asked what the girl was talking about and then she remembered the ears. They were a tell tell sign that she was only hanyou and it was going to take a lot of getting used to. "Panther. My appologies for the delayed response Rin. They are new to me and I keep forgetting about them."
"That is okay. I am just used to seeing them because of InuYasha. He has never let me touch them. Even as a child he denied me." Rin really hoped that Sakura would offer instead of her having to ask. It was childish she knew, but she just wanted to know if they felt as soft as they looked.
Seeing the hopeful look in her eyes, Sakura couldn't deny her. "Would you like to pet them?" The girls eyes lit up at her offer and she laughed as Rin reached up and carefully rubbed the fuzzy ears. The laughter quickly turned into a contented purr until Rin's delighted laughter brought her back.
"Thank you lady Sakura." Rin let her ears go and ran back to grab the hand of the young man she called Kohaku. Sesshomaru hadn't said a word the entire time and Sakura turned to see that he was simply observing them. There was something in his eyes but it was gone as quick as it came and Sakura desperately wanted to know what he was thinking.
"Just Sakura will be fine Rin." A slight sting against her cheek cause her to pause. Smacking her hand against it, she looked to see a flattened demon flea layng in her palm. "Myoga!" She gasped.
"Hello Sakura."

"Sango? Sango? Are you in here?"
Her husbands voice rang through their home and she sighed. So much for sleeping the day away. She had spent most of the morning with Kohaku forging Rin's sword and she was quite exhausted but it was not to be. "I'm in the bedroom Miroku." She had barely spoken the words when her husband came barging through the door.
"Sango, you are not going to believe what I have just heard from InuYasha. There is a panther demon... well... half of a panther demon staying in the forrest. Apparently, she is someone from Sesshomaru's past."
Now this was gossip she could get out of bed for."Like and ex-lover?" She sat up and was face to face with her husband. "I thought that Inu-Youkai mated for life?" It was rather curious. If Sesshomaru had a mate, they would have probably come across her before now.
"I don't think so. InuYasha said that it didn't seem like they were mated. He said that she threw a water ball at his head."
"A water ball?"
"Yes."
"Interesting. Where in the forrest were they?"
"By the spring but Rin and Kohaku have been training since you got the weapon made and I'll bet my life that's where Sesshomaru and this hanyou is. Shall we go take a look?"
Sango grinned and kissed her husband soundly. It had been a long time since anything this exciting had happened in their little village and she couldn't resist. "Let's go."

"Myoga. Why are you here?" Sakura asked.
"I am glad you asked. I came to warn you. How much do you know about those that hunt you?"
"Very little."
"You will explain yourself now flea." Sesshomaru had come to stand behind her and she could feel the little flea shaking in her palm.
"Sesshomaru. Scaring him will only make him want to run away and I for one would like to hear what he has to say." If looks could kill, Sesshomaru's in that moment would have had Sakura bleeding to death in the grass. She understood that many demons and humans alike were terrified of the great Inu-Youkai Sesshomaru-sama, but she was not one of them and she would not treat him any differently now then when they were alone. "Do not give me that look, Sesshomaru. I need to hear this and you know how Myoga is."
Myoga let out a frustrated huff and she rolled her eyes. "It's true and you know it Myoga. If he and so much as cracked his knuckles you would be running for the hills. Now, please continue."
"Well, you know of Tsubasa and Rukia so I will not go into detail on that but did you know that he had a brother?" Sakura shook her head and he went on. "Tsubasa's brother, Kinaka, was as dark as they come. He was completely evil and he, along with his imprinted mate Akuhei, brought darkness to the world. There was no sunlight, no moon, no stars. This darkness was like a disease. Happiness was sparce. Human villaged were plagued with famine and water shortages. Worst of all, when touched by the darkness, human or demon, the heart turned black and he soul was lost to evil. Only the very strong of heart were able to come back from it, but the evil deeds they commited while under the influence of the darkness within themselves plaged them with guilt and they were never truly the same. It was Tsubasa and Rukia that managed to destroy the darkness. Kinaka's powers were sealed and Akuhei was placed under a curse much like InuYasha was under when Kagome came into this world. So Kinaka was forced to live powerless in this world without his mate until..." He paused.
"Until what Myoga?"
"... Until you were born."

Kinaka had heard enough. It was bad enough as a memory but to listen to the little bug tell it like some childrens bedtime story was too much and he descended from the sky. "You wouldn't be talking about me now would you flea?"
Sesshomaru was already in the air, swinging Bakusaiga to kill it. "Bakusaiga!" The blue-green light of the attack shot through the air but the demon had avoided the attack.
Kinaka laughed as he landed between Rin and Sakura. "Now, now Sesshomaru. You wouldn't want me to kill either one of these two would you?" He had both of them wrapped in a cloud of darkness, just shy of actually touching them. "You were paying attention to what the bug was saying weren't you? How would little Rin feel if she suddenly killed the boy here?" He motioned towards Kohaku, who had stopped mid-attack as Rin was trapped in the black smoke. "Tell me, do you think she would ever be able to forgive herself?" He laughed and Sesshomaru growled low in his throat.
"You will release them demon." Sesshomaru cracked his knuckles and his eyes turned red. He would shift forms and see how the baka dealt with his demon.
"The name is Kinaka. You know, I don't really need this one." He sent Rin flying towards the treetops and Sesshomaru lept to catch her. Just as Rin landed in his arms, Sakura's scent disappeared. Looking down, he saw that she and Kinaka had both vanished. "NO!"

"Now that we're all alone, you and I can have a little chat."
Sakura looked around to find that they were in some kind of moutain cave. Somehow her hands had been bound and she shifted to try and remove the ropes.
"Don't bother. They are enchanted."
"Why are you doing this?" She was terrified but tried to keep it hidden, relying on her panther insticts to mask her aura as best as she could."I have done nothing to you."
"You and your entire fucking bloodline took everything from me!" He yelled, startling her. "I had everything. My fully imprinted mate. My own kingdom. I had the darkness, was born with it. The most powerful, evil magic in the world was mine to wield, and I did so with pleasure. As far as why I am doing this to you, well... because I wan't you to suffer. You see, there are things that have to happen before I can fully rid this world of its light, the first involves ridding you of your blended soul. Would you like to know why those Kami's really offered themselves to a bunch of hanyou children?"
She didn't want to hear this."Please do not do this."
He laughed and it filled her with fear. "Begging will do you no good. As I was saying... The kami blended their souls with those filthy children because they knew that one day you would be born into this world. They never cared about protecting you or your mother or anyone else that cam before you. They simply wanted to protect the light in your heart."
"I don't understand."
"The kami that lives within your soul replaces the darkness within your heart. It keeps your soul pure. You have always had your free will of course, but your heart has never felt evil. That is about to change. Have you ever felt your sould literally being ripped apart? I can assure you that it will be extremely painful."
Sakura couldn't move. Kinaka had pulled a dagger from a sash around his waist and it was holding her in place. He moved slowly, enjoying the smell of her fear. She had been unable to keep her mask up after she had seen the dagger. He came to his knees in front of her and smiled. "Now, I am going to stab your heart, but you will not bleed, and you will not die. Let us see how you hold up against the darkness without her protection."
The blade entered her chest and pain exploded through her body. She wanted to scream, to cry, even die but she couldn't do anything. A part of herself was disappearing. She could feel her soul split in two, the power that she had always felt deep within her was fading away along with the powers that had been gifted to her to pass on. Her soul was screaming, crying out to anyone that would listen. "SESSHOMARU!"

Sesshomaru fell to his knees as her voice rang through his mind. She was in pain. A lot of pain.
"Sesshomaru-sama!" Rin ran to him but he held out his hand. He needed to concentrate. He didn't know how he was able to hear her and he wasn't even sure if she would be able to hear him but he had to try.
Sakura. Kitten can you hear me?
It is faint, but yes. Sesshomaru. I am somewhere in the mountains. North, I think. I can't... I am going to black out... I can't take it... the pain. Sesshomaru, it hurts.
Stay alive. I WILL find you.

A/N I really hope you all enjoyed this chapter. I had a lot of fun writing it and I can't wait to see what my evil little mind will come up with next. R&R as you wish :)
