It only took Bankotsu a few hours to regain consciousness and while Jakotsu wanted nothing more than to sit there quietly hugging him, thankful he was alive, Sesshoumaru had other plans. He had to have been close by, Jakotsu was certain, as he managed to show up at the back of the wagon mere moments after Jakotsu squealed that he was awake. “Care to explain?” was all he asked, though to them it sounded more like a demand than a request.
“Five years ago I killed a man named Magatsuhi during a gun fight. It was three against one and I barely made it out of there. Had two new bullet holes to show for it. I do not remember that man being there, but he was trying to get revenge for that man's death,” Bankotsu explained even as he tried to think back to that day with the man's face in mind. Still he could not remember ever seeing him before.
“Very well, but something like this better not happen again. You will not be given a third chance,” Sesshoumaru warned him before turning to walk away.
“Why were you fighting this Magatsuhi for anyways?” Inuyasha inquired curiously and for the first time, Bankotsu noticed he was actually standing there.
“He was one of the men that killed my parents,” Bankotsu answered honestly, causing Sesshoumaru to stop walking for a moment.
“You may get a third chance after all,” Sesshoumaru called back to him before continuing on his way once more.
“Why did he change his mind?” Bankotsu couldn't help but wonder as he watched Sesshoumaru walk away before turning his attention back to Inuyasha once more.
“Ten years ago Sesshoumaru killed the men responsible for the death of our parents.”
“Ten years? He must have only been ten years old at the time,” Jakotsu insisted, shocked by his friend's words.
“Actually he was 14-years-old. I was only ten at the time.” Apparently having said all he was going to, Inuyasha nodded his head to them before heading back toward the center of camp where his wife was waiting for him beside the fire. Without bothering to say anything to either of them, Renkotsu slipped out unnoticed as Bankotsu turned his attention to Jakotsu before pulling him behind the wagon for some privacy.
A bit startled by his sudden movements, Jakotsu nevertheless allowed himself to be pulled behind the wagon by Bankotsu; watching as he glanced around nervously as though he thought someone might still be around and watching. Wanting to give him time to say whatever it was he obviously wanted to say, Jakotsu waited patiently as long as he could. But as Bankotsu continued to stand there, staring down at him in silence, his curiosity eventually won out. "Bankotsu? What is it?"
For a moment Jakotsu began to wonder if he actually had any intention of speaking at all as he seemed content to continue in silence, but eventually he did open his mouth and what came out carried so much emotion that it startled Jakotsu. "Even though the wound was not very deep, when he cut me and I fell back into that murky water, I saw my life flashing before my eyes. In all of the years that I have graced this earth I have accomplished nothing. I have done nothing to be proud of, nothing to answer my parents prayers to be a good man, but in that moment, none of that mattered.
"When I thought I was going to die, the only thing at all to cross my mind was the thought that I would die without ever knowing your touch. You have ensnared me in your web and I can think of nothing but you. You might be willing to wait forever, Jakotsu, but I am done waiting," Bankotsu insisted before roughly pressing his nearly feverish lips against Jakotsu's; startling both of them with desperate need behind it. Completely forgetting about everything else around them, the two allowed themselves to get lost in each other as hungry lips pursued each other and feverish hands desperately searched for any exposed skin their fingers could find.
It wasn't until Inuyasha called out to them, "Hey, Jakotsu, have you seen Bankotsu? He's not in the wagon," as he came around the corner and startled the two of them, did they finally apart. Realizing what he had just interrupted, Inuyasha mumbled a quick, "Never mind," before disappearing back around the wagon. Their moment interrupted, Bankotsu leaned his forehead against Jakotsu's as he breathed his scent in deeply.
"As soon as this cattle drive is over, you are going to become mine," Bankotsu promised before placing a gentle kiss on his forehead as he wrapped one of his arms around his back and pulled him against his rugged chest; each able to feel the other's body heat through their clothing.
Leaning up, Jakotsu softly kissed his cheek before burying his face in his neck. "I became yours the moment I met you," Jakotsu whispered honestly.
