Chapter 12: Suspicious Mind

A/N: Inuyasha begins to notice that Kagome and Sesshomaru are spending a lot of time together. He starts to become suspicious of their relationship. Will Inuyasha discover what they�ve been hiding?
Kagome sat at deskdesk in her office at Shikon Tech. She was supposed to be catching up on all the work that she had blown off in order to focus on her feelings for Inuyasha�s brother. Kagome sighed and threw her pen down on the desk in frustration. �How the hell am I supposed to get any work done with all this other shit on my mind?�
�By other things, I do hope you mean me Kagome.� Her blue gray eyes snapped upward to meet the owner of the smooth silken voice that had iruptrupted her. There leaning against her office doorway was Sesshomaru looking like the silver haired god that he was. He tossed her a devilish smile along with a flirtatious wink that made her shiver.
�What are you doing here Sesshomaru?� Sesshomaru strode into her office confidently and leaned forward placing one hand on the edge of her desk while keeping the other behind her back.
�I came to make amends darling.� She rolled her eyes and proceeded to ignore him. He grabbed the stack of papers that she had picked up and flung them to the floor quickly.
�Damn it Sesshomaru, what the hell is your problem? Those were important documents that you just tossed on the floor!� He smirked impishly at her and then pulled his hand that he had been keeping behind his back out in the open so that Kagome could see the bouquet of red long stemmed roses that he had been hiding.
�Here Kagome, these are for you.�
�They�re lovely Sesshomaru, thank you.� She took them out of his hand quickly.
�You�re welcome.�
�However, they do not make up for what you did.� Sesshomaru�s amber eyes grew wide as Kagome tossed the beautiful roses into the wastebasket beside her desk nonchalantly.
�Kagome, what the hell is wrong with you?�
�Nothing.�
�Then what the hell are you doing?�
�Just letting you know that I won�t be bought with flo, di, dinners, or jewelry. What you did cannot be fixed by buying me flowers Sesshomaru.�
�Then how do I fix it Kagome?�
�I don�t know that you can fix it. You forced yourself on me Sesshomaru!�
�I know and I�m sorry! Please believe me Kagome, I�m begging you! I can�t live without you in my life. You believe that don�t you?�
�I believe that you�ll do anything to keep me apart from your brother.�
�You don�t belong with him Kagome, you belong with me!�
�No Sesshomaru.�
�Are you saying that your feelings have changed?� Kagome turned her back on Sesshomaru. �Go ahead Kagome, tell me you care nothing for me. Tell me that you don�t give a damn about me! Tell me you�re in love with Inuyasha and not with me! Tell me this and I�ll leave you alone!� His amber eyes bore into Kagome�s back as he stood there waiting for her to answer him. Kagome started to sob her shoulders trembling as her tears streamed down her face. �Well Kagome, are you going to answer me?�
�Yes.�
�What is your answer?�
�I can�t tell you those things because they aren�t true Sesshomaru. I love you with all my heart and you know it! You�re the man that my heart belongs to even though it should be Inuyasha because he is my husband.�
�I want you to prove that you love me Kagome.�
�Prove it how Sesshomaru?�
�Leave Inuyasha. Leave him and come to me.�
�Sessho-�
�Either you�ll do what I ask Kagome or it�s done.�
�What do you mean done?�
�I mean you have two choices. One, leave Inuyasha to be with me or two, stay with him and never see me again.�
�You can�t make me choose, it�s not fair!�
�And you cannot continu roll arl around between the sheets with both myself and my little brother Kagome! Now the choice is yours so choose carefully.� Sesshomaru turned Kagome around to face him and then captured her lips in a hard kiss. Then he left her standing there looking like a deer caught in a car�s headlights. Her mind was reeling from Sesshomaru�s unwarned ultimatum.
�Damn him for making me choose! I can�t lose him, I love him! But how do I leave my husband, my darling Inuyasha who has been nothing but wonderful to me? I have to come clean with Inuyasha, but how?� Her thoughts were interrupted by her husband�s husky voice.
�Hey babe, what�s with the papers all over your office floor?�
�Oh Inu, I was just upset. What are you doing here?�
�I came to see my wife who�s always too busy for me.� His amber eyes glanced over at the roses in her wastebasket. �What�s with the roses in the wastebasket Kagome? You got a secret admirer or something?�
�No. They were from Sesshomaru.�
�What the hell is my brother doing buying you roses?�
�He was just trying to be nice, but I told him that it wasy iny inappropriate.� She mentally kicked herself for being a coward and lying to Inuyasha.
�So where is Sesshomaru?�
�He left.�
�He was here?�
�Yes just a few minutes ago.�
�What the hell is going on Kagome?�
�What do you mean Inuyasha?�
�Why is Sesshomaru hanging around you so damned much?�
�I don�t know maybe he just needs a friend?�
�Yeah right! Maybe he just wants to fuck my wife!� Kagome frowned and looked at her feet all of a sudden feeling incredibly guilty about her and Sesshomaru�s tryst. �Kagome, is something going on between you and my brother?�
�What? Me and Sesshomaru? No that�s crazy Inuyasha!�
�Is it? You two have been spending an awful lot of time together lately. Do you have a thing for Sesshomaru Kagome?� She swallowed the lump in her throat and took a deep breath. Kagome knew that she would eventually have to confess the truth to Inuyasha but she just didn�t have the strength right then.

�No �No Inuyasha, nothing�s g ong on okay? Look I�m not really in the mood for this so can we talk about it later?� He nodded and watched as she bent over to pick up the papers on her office floor. Kagome let out the breath she was unknowingly holding when she heard him sit down at one of the brown leather chairs in front of her desk.
�So baby, are you hungry?�
�Starved.�
�Well then let�s go.�
�Go where?�
�Does it matter? I just want to take my beautiful wife out and show her off a little.� Kagome gave Inuyasha a small grin as she reached for her gray Fendi handbag. She had dressed in a pair of gray slacks that zipped up the side and paired it with a white angora three quarter length sleeved sweater. Her long ebony hair was woven into a french braid making her look very sophisticated.
Inuyasha took Kagome by the hand and led her out of her office. Her gray Fendi t-strap detailed four inch heels were clicking loudly against the tile floors as they walked down the hall to the elevator. Inuyasha opened the door to his slate gray Nissan 350Z to allow Kagome to slide into the passenger seat. Kagome grinned broadly at him as he cranked up the beautiful car and pulled swiftly out of Shikon Tech�s parking lot. He took her to Caranno�s, a very upscale Italian restaurant. The restaurant was built to look the part of an ancient Roman structure compete with large white stone pillars and a genuine aquaduct. Kagome�s blue gray eyes grew wide at the sight of the restaurant.
�Oh Inuyasha, it�s gorgeous!�
�It�s nothing compared to you baby.�
�You always take me to the most interesting restaurants!�
�I just like to see you smile babe.� They quickly went inside where their table was already waiting for them. About halfway through their meal Kagome�s cell phone beeped alerting her that she had a new text message. She held the phone up so that Inuyasha couldn�t see the screen. The message wrom rom his brother and it read:
I SEE THAT YOU HAVE MADE YOUR CHOICE, SESS. Kagome sent him a message back.
WHERE ARE YOU? He responded immediately.
AT THE BAR. She sent back.
WAIT THERE, I�LL FAKE A BATHROOM TRIP. His response was extremely blunt.
MAKE IT QUICKnu hnu honey, please excuse me, I have to go to the ladies room.�
�Sure sweetie.� His amber eyes followed her until she was out of his sight. She quickly took a ur tur towards the last barstool where she spied Sesshomaru sitting.
�What the hell are you doing, stalking me?�
�No my darling little Kagome, I�m not stalking you. I happen to have drinks here quite often. So you had something you wished to tell me?�
�Yes. Just because I�m out to lunch with Inuyasha does not mean I�ve made my choice.�
�So then have you made a choice?�
�Not exactly.�
�Kagome you have to choose. I will no longer be content to stand on the sidelines while you give all your attention to Inuyasha. Is that clear?�
�Yes, but-�
�No buts Kagome, you know what you have to do.� She nodded silently. �Now darling run along back to your husband before he comes looking for you.� Kagome nodded again and quickly headed back to Inuyasha. She was relieved when he didn�t ask what had kept her. They finished their meal in silence. All the while Kagome was secretly deciding on how she was going to inform Inuyasha that she was leaving him.
�I can�t just up and leave Inuyasha, he�s been so good to me. Maybe if I let him catch me with Sesshomaru he will leave me? That�s it, that�s what I have to do.� Kagome threw a sympathetic glance at her sweet husband before finishing the last of her meal. She felt like such a backstabber but she couldn�t help that she had fallen in love with Sesshomaru. The words her mother had told her as a child rang in her head clearly. �You cannot choose or change who you fall in love with Kagome.�
