On the Sea Is Where I’ll Be
By: Narea
The food in the tray that Inuyasha had given her was quite
scrumptious, which made her wonder where exactly had it come from. One would
think that pirates wouldn’t spend the time of day on good exquisite food,
instead just focusing on pillaging and getting drunk while singing stupid songs
about ‘the pirates life for me!’ She should have known this wouldn’t be the
case. Inuyasha did seem to have a rather, unusual crew on board, but they were
still pirates nonetheless. So after having finishing the divine treats, she
stood for the first time since having been ‘bitten’ by the out of control
Inuyasha, and made her way toward the desk where she assumed Inuyasha did his
pirate business on. The splintering tray obviously showed its age and made her
wonder how old the object really was. What kind of history did it have? What
interesting stories would it tell if it was able to speak? She had always been
interested in history, or antique objects. They always had a story to tell if
you could figure it out. Tracing a finger along the edge of the worn out tray,
she let out a small sigh before placing it on the cluttered desk. Now that she
was awake and knew what her actions had caused Inuyasha to do, she felt to say
the least, like shit. What if she hadn’t opened her big trap? She snorted very
unlady like and ran a hand along the edge of the wooden catastrophe of
Inuyasha’s desk. If she hadn’t opened her big trap she obviously wouldn’t have
been bitten by him, thus never creating this whole ‘stuck situation.’
Her hand came to the edge of the desk, and she watched it
with troubled blue eyes fall off only to return to rest at her side like a
faithful old dog. If only she could turn back time…a hopeless wish it was.
Briefly, she wondered what had happened to Miroku. Last time she saw him, he
had walked out of the door to Inuyasha’s study due to his order. She guessed
loosely that he probably got off the hook thanks to her big mouth. Of course if
that was true she only had one thing to say to that, what a lucky bum. She
found her gaze wandering around the room she had spent the last few days in. To
her utter disappointment, there wasn’t a window. There went her hopes of being
able to gaze at the sparkling sea. Blue sapphires landed on an upturned chair
with three legs and a broken backing to it. A slight smile spread across her
face, the memory of how it came to be that way resurfacing. Gently padding over
to the abused object in her bare feet, she sat down in front of it
cross-legged, adjusting the nightgown that she had been wearing to fit her
comfortably, she cocked her head to the side to access her warped ‘friend.’ Her
eyes softened as she looked upon the hole where the fourth leg was supposed to
be.
“You know, for an inanimate object, you sure have been there
for when no one else was. In fact, as strange as this sounds, you’ve been the
only thing on this ship that I could depend on for help. Inuyasha doesn’t
count.” She found her index finger tracing along the nook and crevices of the
great wonder that was the chair and found herself smiling despite its haggard
appearance. “Oh chair, I don’t know how I’m going to get out of this one. I
think this time I’ve really messed things up more then usual. I mean you probably
know what I’m talking about since you were in the room too when Inuyasha was
explaining the ‘stuck situation’ to me. If only I hadn’t angered him so much,
maybe this would have never came to be. But then again, chair, I still think he
somewhat deserved it.” A silence filled the room as Kagome stopped talking to
examine a particular long split in the wooden structure. She placed her pale,
dainty hand over the split, strangely feeling sorry that she had done this
damage to the object. A feeling came over her then, it was weird but comforting
and somehow she knew that everything would be o.k. It appeared as if the chair
was actually trying to console her. Another one of her bright smiles lit
up her face and she chuckled sweetly for a moment before speaking again.
“You’re right chair, I shouldn’t dwell on the past so much.
I should be focusing my attention to the present and how to live through this
situation I’m in. Hopefully my future won’t be so hectic. I never thought I’d
be saying this to a chair before but, I’m glad I have at least you with me, and
I’m sorry for the damage I’ve done to you. Though now that I think back to it,
it is rather comical. I suppose it’s comical also how I’m talking to a chair
about my life’s problems.” She giggled to herself as she stroked the wood in a
fond action. Having thought to be the only one residing in the room, imagine
her surprise to hearing that unmistakable male voice that could only belong to
one man. Inuyasha. Blue eyes widening and a quick intake of air, the startled
girl whirled around to confront the culprit. He was leaning against the doorway
in a what appeared to be casual manner. His arms were crossed against his
chest, one shin high boot clad leg slightly over lapping the other, sterling
silver hair casually draped over one shoulder. As usual his ears were swiveling
around madly to catch every sound imaginable that the ship and crewmates
created. Golden eyes were focused on her, an emotion in his eyes that she
couldn’t quite place, and his mouth in his usual cocky grin.
“I leave you for a couple minutes and come back to find you
talking to my broken chair. Kagome, Kagome, Kagome…what am I going to do with
you?” Loudly walking over toward her, he sat down beside the young maiden and
cast a golden eyed glance to the wrecked chair. “I suppose now I’ll have to go
get a new one, thanks to you I might add. Oh well, it’s just a chair, no crying
over spilled milk as they say.” For some reason that’s still unknown to her,
she felt the need to save the chair. It did help her out on two occasions and
she felt like she at least owed it something. I mean, who’d want to be
chopped up into pieces to then be thrown into a raging fire? She sure didn’t
and strangely, she felt that the chair probably wouldn’t enjoy it either. Grasping
onto his baggy white sleeve, she turned pleading blue eyes to him, getting
ready to save her haggard companion.
“Inuyasha, I know this may sound weird but…if it’s all right
with you, I’d like to keep it. I mean it is the least you could do for me since
you did get me ‘stuck’ with you and all.” It was a pretty ruthless tactic
bringing up the ‘stuck situation’ but she really wanted to keep this
chair around for a little while longer. His facial features turned to anger and
she blinked at how fast his emotions changed. He was really animated for a
captain to a pirate ship….
“What! Wench I told you already that I was sorry for that!
Stupid bitch can’t even…” A slender digit placed itself on Inuyasha’s lips,
silencing his beginning tirade. She let a giggle escape through her slightly
cracking lips despite his harsh name calling. His face still expressed anger,
but it seemed a little more tamed. Wiggling her finger, that was still placed
on his lips, in a condescending manner, she smiled brightly at him for the
first time in awhile. This time the smile actually reached her eyes.
“Shhh…Inuyasha no need to get so defensive. I know how sorry
you are, but you never answered my original question. Can the chair stay or
not?” Removing her finger, she awaited his answer, hoping for the best. When he
furrowed his eyebrows and cocked his head to the side in a questioning manner,
she began to wonder how he was going to respond. He probably thought her to be
some kind of loony by now, having heard her talking to a chair.
“You really want this chair around don’t you? Though I
haven’t the faintest clue why, I mean it is only a chair. Unless…unless you’re
planning on beating me over the head with it again. Cause if that’s the reason
why then my answer is a definite no.” She winced when he mentioned the last
part. Alright, so obviously it looked like he was going to need some
convincing. This was going to be hard…. Licking her lips, she began.
“Yeah, although I’m not particularly sorry to have done that
to you, you did kidnap me and all, that’s not the reason why I want to keep it.
To be honest, I don’t even know why I want to keep it around, but for
some reason, I just do. I don’t know…arg this is hard!” She turned pleading
eyes to him, still having a good grip to his white baggy sleeved clad arm.
“I can’t really explain it, Inuyasha, but somehow this
wrecked chair in front of us gives me comfort. I know we haven’t been on the
best of terms with each other, but I’d really, really appreciate it if
you kept the chair. In fact I’d even…”
His dark eyebrows were raised now, his silver haired dog ears fully
trained on the dark haired female in front of him, waiting for her to finish
her sentence. When she didn’t seem to be finishing anytime soon, he took it
upon himself to help her.
“You’d even do what?” He noted her eyes scrunching together
tightly and her grip becoming a little tighter. The suspense was killing him.
“In fact…I’d even owe you a favor.” Yes, she was desperate
enough to keep the chair to owe a pirate captain a favor. ‘The things
I do for you chair...’ Slowly
opening her eyes, she chanced a glance at the roguish man that she clung to. He
was smiling that smile again, the one where it took your breath away. She
inadvertently began to batt her eyelashes again, but it’s not like she could
help it when she didn’t even realize she did it in the first place. Right about
then is when he started laughing, that deep, rich chuckle once again filling
the room like it had that morning with the tickle torture.
“You are definitely the most craziest bitch I’ve ever met.
Don’t give me that look Kagome I don’t mean offense to that. Since I am
becoming quite fond of you, and because you made a hell of a show trying to
convince me I’ll keep the chair around. Now about that favor, it has to anything
I say, understand?” She nodded reluctantly, feeling like all the world like she
had somehow made a deal with the devil. In some sense she probably had. A
strong arm went around her shoulders and she felt a nose nuzzling against her
cheek. His every puff of breathes through his nostrils caressing the skin on
her cheek.
“Some mess we’re in huh? I never would have imagined
something like this would ever happen to me. I guess you probably would have
never of expected this either. But, from what I know of you so far…I can’t say
I’m not disappointed.” She could feel the vibrations from within his chest when
he spoke. He was close, so very close to her. Too close to her…. Clearing her
throat, she discreetly tried to move his arm from around her shoulder. Her
actions were futile though because he tightened his hold on her shoulders
briefly to cast a gentle kiss to her cheek before letting go of her and
standing up. Stretching in what could only be called an animalistic nature, he
bent down slightly to pull her up to a standing position also.
“Well babe, I don’t know about you but I’m beat. I think
it’s time for me to hit the sack. I think you should too. It’s probably been an
emotional day for you, so you should rest up. We’ve got a long road ahead of
us. I don’t want my bitch fainting on me.” Giving her butt a teasing pat, he
descended toward the changing room, but not without giving her a rakish grin of
course. Her angered gaze was well worth it.
‘Why that no good…’ Huffing she crossed her arms over
her bosom and turned her head in an indignant manner. The pillow on the bed
seemed to speak to her and that’s when she formed her payback plan. He wanted
to play dirty; she would play dirty as well. Grabbing the soft appendage, she
sneaked behind the door much like she had when she had when she hit him over
the head with the chair, waiting for him to reemerge from the changing room.
When the door opened and he walked into striking range she swung the pillow
towards him. And it would have hit him too if he hadn’t been expecting it.
Taking the pillow and casually discarding it back onto the bed, he picked her
up over his shoulder as if she were only a sack of potatoes. Her tiny fist’s
beat on his back half heartedly while she cursed at him, though the laughter in
her voice clearly contradicted her speech. Another pat to her butt sent her
into a fit of giggles. Oh, he was so going to get it…
Dropping her onto the bed, he then grabbed the pillow he
once discarded and promptly hit her with it, gently of course. Her indignant
cry filtered the wooden walls.
“Hey! That’s no fair! It was my idea first! You can’t take
it from me so there.” Sticking her tongue out after she finished her speech,
which only resulted in his laughter and another hit with the pillow. Kagome
ever the fighting female, grabbed the other pillow and whacked him upside the
head with it. Her laughter now joining along with his.
“Hey! Oh that’s it woman! This is war!”
And so went on the ever famous pillow fight war. There was
no winner, since they both decided to call it a tie, after much argument of
course.
But for just one night, the pair forgot about their troubles
and enjoyed themselves with some good clean fun.
The things they did for each other, and yet they didn’t even
realize it…
A/N: See I told you I was gonna work on it. There you go. I
rather like this chapter. As for the chair, well I thought it would be unique
for her to find comfort in it. I mean some people use diary’s and things like
that so I figured, why not a three legged broken chair? Anyways, it’s late so
I’m heading off to bed. Hope you guys enjoy!
