Well Saw, I'll answer your question with an update. I should apologize in advance for any spelling errors or misplaced text. It was three in the morning by the time I finished this, so I'm a little brain dead right now, but I hope you like the chapter.
Chapter 11: My Home “I’m home,” Sesshoumaru thought as he stared at the whitewashed walls, and dark oak of the western palace. His eyes traveled to the painting hanging in front of him. The clear golden eyes of his father stared back at him. His regal features were transposed into a look of calm contentment. A small smile graced his normally stern visage. Sesshoumaru’s eyes glided along the painting finally landing on the reason for his father’s contentment. Strong, clawed fingers held the bundle with loving tenderness. The child’s eyes were closed. One tiny hand was clutching Inutaisho’s as he slept. Soft, puppy ears were held slack against his head. Sesshoumaru’s stared at Inuyasha’s innocent, chubby face with a feeling of dread pooling into his stomach. He realized this wasn’t his home, it was his father’s. He had despised that portrait, and after his father’s death felt a sick sort of pleasure as he plunged it into the fire. Sesshoumaru jerked his head away from the painting as he heard a squeal of laughter. His feet carried him unwillingly toward the sound. Inuyasha’s eyes were bright with happiness and laughter as Inutaisho spun him around the room. Inuyasha let out a gurgling burst of laughter as Inutaisho tickled his stomach. A small boy stood placidly in the doorway, his hauntingly deadened eyes simply staring. His lithe, tiny body was rigid and unmoving. His lips were curled into a sneer of disgust. Sesshoumaru watched his younger self with detachment. Izayoi smiled as at the goofy grin that flitted unbidden to Inutaisho’s face. “I thought you were putting him to bed.” “I was just about…” “I’m sure you were,” she said walking towards him with a laugh. Inuyasha was smiling and tugging on his father’s kimono, his eyes wide and mischievous. “Doesn’t our little boy look exhausted?” Inutaisho smirked at the sarcasm in her voice. Inuyasha gurgled, his hands stretching toward Izayoi. She scooped the infant in her arms. “Well, my little man, I think you’ve stayed up quite long enough." She ran her fingers along his soft downy hair. Inuyasha snuggled into the crook of her arm as she rocked him slowly in her arms. Her voice rang clear as she hummed to him. Inuyasha blinked slowly, his eyes growing heavy. In the midst of Izayoi’s humming, a soft tapping sound, unheard by the occupants of the room, emanated from the doorway. Sesshoumaru watched the crimson liquid drip from his younger self’s fingers. The droplets soon began to pool on the redwood floor under his feet. Izayoi’s haunting melody stuttered to a halt as she turned and locked eyes with Sesshoumaru. “Inutaisho,” she breathed in alarm. Inutaisho followed her gaze. His eyes grew cold as he met his son’s. The young boy backed away from the doorway. He simply wasn’t fast enough. “What were you going to do,” Inutaisho yelled angrily as he grabbed Sesshoumaru’s arm. Inuyasha’s sleep ridden eyes forced themselves open at the sudden burst of sound, and he whined in annoyance. Sesshoumaru yanked his arm from Inutaisho’s grasp. Inutaisho fisted Sesshoumaru’s kimono and wrenched him back. His other hand encircled the small boy’s throat. “Answer me,” he roared menacingly as he tightened his grip on Sesshoumaru’s throat, “Did you really think you could slink in here and kill him while he was sleeping?” Inuyasha wailed loudly his arms flailing. Sesshoumaru ripped his body out of his fathers grasp. He flinched as Inutaisho claws rent three long gashes in his neck. “Inutaisho,” Izayoi called before he could follow Sesshoumaru. She hushed the crying child in her arms. Inutaisho followed her eyes to the ground and the small puddle of blood that was languidly seeping into the wood. His eyes traveled to the retreating back of his younger son. “Leave him be,” Izayoi said, “He’s been injured enough.” Inutaisho’s eyes clouded. She slid her hand to his shoulder. “He’s your son,” she said softly, “I know you love him.” “I love you,” he said pulling her and the fussy Inuyasha into her arms, “and I love Inuyasha. He is my only son.” Izayoi sighed, “We both know that isn’t true.” “It is,” Inutaisho said with fire in his eyes, “That thing was never a part of me. I will never recognize him as my own, Izayoi.” “Why must you be so cruel to him? No matter your protests, he is still your blood.” “That beast would gladly spill yours or Inuyasha’s blood, yet you want me to be kind to him.” “I want you to love him as you do Inuyasha, and as Sesshoumaru loves you.” “He doesn’t,” Inutaisho said bitterly, “Anything born of that women isn’t capable of feeling. I cannot do as you wish.” Izayoi stared up at him with sadness permeating her gray eyes. She rubbed a hand across his cheek. “For your sake and his, I hope you’re wrong,” he eyes drifted to the child in her arms. Inuyasha rubbed a hand across his eyes sleepily. Izayoi smiled down at his sleepy features. “Don’t you want him to have a brother,” Izayoi asked softly as she rubbed a finger across his cheek. “Sesshoumaru could never be his brother. He doesn’t know what love or loyalty means.” “Then, teach him,” Izayoi answered sternly, “Don’t give up on him.” “It’s too late for such thoughts. He’s become more hers than he ever was mine.” “Inutaisho, I…” Sesshoumaru jerked awake with a start. Honey gold irises stared at him in concern. Sesshoumaru pulled away from the face that was mere inches from his own. “What are you doing, hanyou?” “How do you feel,” he asked. He was still hovering over Sesshoumaru who was lying in the ground near the fire. “Your face turns my stomach, hanyou. Remove yourself from my sight.” “If you can be that much of an asshole, I guess you’re alright.” Sesshoumaru glared at him. His glare disappeared as he stared at Inuyasha neck. “I removed them,” Maeko said. Inuyasha smiled as tugged at the beads around Sesshoumaru’s neck. “After the stunt you pulled, I felt a little punishment was in order,” Meako smiled at the anger in his eyes, “Perhaps you’ll think better next time.” Thank you for reading, and I hope you liked this chapter.
