Chapter Twelve:
Kagome shuffled her way down the sidewalk, her raven head tilted downward to stare at the scuffed shoes that bore her towards home. She had been walking these streets for the past two days, searching fruitlessly for another job. Tomorrow was Wednesday, and rent was due…as well as the payment for Souta’s hospital bills. While she did have some money saved up from the last few weeks at the Diner, she was still short her normal monthly payment. Shame and helplessness washed through her, turning her cheeks a dusky pink. She turned her face away from a startling cold breeze, shoved her hands further into the recesses of her pockets, and not for the first time in the past couple of days…she wished she had just kept her goddamned mouth shut.Kagome bit down hard on her lower lip as worry, her constant companion, prickled at the base of her spine. How was she supposed to tell her mother that she had lost her job? That she didn’t have enough money for rent? She knew her mother wouldn’t be angry, it would never occur to her mother to blame her daughter for not having enough money. And that made it worse. Her family was depending on her…and she was failing them. Again.
Hot tears pricked at the backs of her red rimmed eyes. With a sniffle, and a stubborn firming of her chin, Kagome wiped away the beginnings of her tears almost angrily. She was sick of crying. Sick of feeling helpless. Why was it so hard to get a job? She may not have the nicest clothes money could buy, but she was clean, polite, and friendly.
No one, however, was hiring her. Every manager she had spoken with had turned her away with polite but firm smiles.
Dread pooled in the pit of her stomach as she flashed back to the events that had last transpired well over a week ago. Her palm still stung from where she had slapped that arrogant dog demon across the face, her knuckles were still red from the blow she had struck him. At the time she had felt good, powerful, and vindicated. Now?
Now she was really wishing she had just kept her mouth shut. She couldn’t help but get the feeling that Sesshoumaru had something to do with her inability to get a job. She had literally been to every storefront on the main strip, filled out well over a dozen of job applications…
And nothing. Not a bite, not even a nibble. The store owners took one look at her and shook their heads. She clenched her teeth, frustrated and angry at the turn her life had taken. She felt bad for her family, bad for her little brother who was counting on the money she made in order to receive the lifesaving treatments at the hospital, and bad for herself. Her situation.
Because right now? It looked like she was being given much of a choice. It looked like…Kagome Higurashi, proud and independent girl who had told Sesshoumaru where he could shove it, must now go back on her hands and knees. Groveling.
How would that conversation even go? Gee, Sesshoumaru. . . I sure am sorry I smacked you in the face, even though you got me fired from my job for no reason. Please take me back and allow me to be your submissive sex slave? Just let me have a job, too?
She scoffed mentally, her gaze lingering on the sky scraper in the distance. It was one of the largest buildings in Japan. Made of steel and glass, it towered above all the rest. Imposing. Intimidating.
Headquarters of Taisho Tech.
Kagome bit down hard on her lower lip, her steps faltering. Dare she go to his place of business and beg for his mercy? Would he even see her? And if he did…what on earth would he say?
She was jerked out of her thoughts by the cheerful ring of her cellphone. Fumbling in her pocket, Kagome grabbed the chipperly ringing phone and brought it to her ear.
“Hello?”
“Kagome! Oh, Kagome!” Her mother’s voice came over the line, strained with tears. For a terrifying moment, Kagome’s heart stopped beating at the sound of her mother’s tear filled voice. Was it Souta? Had…had something gone wrong? Were they being evicted?
“Mama?” Kagome’s worried confusion must have shown through in her pained whisper, for her mother let out a rush of breath.
“Oh Kagome! It’s wonderful, wonderful news!” Her mother cried into the phone, her tears now identified as ones of joy and not sorrow. “The house, Kagome! We’re getting the house back! And Souta…there was an anonymous donation at the hospital. All of his medical bills are paid!”
Kagome’s eyes widened briefly in shock before a wide, almost goofy, grin stretched across her face. She didn’t care that she was standing stock still in the middle of a busy sidewalk in downtown Tokyo. She didn’t care that she was grinning like a loon, or that tears of relief were spilling from the corners of her eyes.
“Oh, Mama!” Kagome gasped, her hand holding the phone shaking. “That’s…amazing. Wonderful! I can’t believe-“
And then Kagome paused, her smile flickering as her gaze caught and snagged upon the skyscraper in the distance. Her throat became parched, suddenly dry, and she listened with half an ear as her mother rattled on, clearly excited about the new developments taking place in their lives.
With Souta’s bills paid, they were in the clear. They could start new. And the people who had bought the shrine all those months ago had sold it. The new owner had called Grandpa, and asked him to come back as shrine monk. Their family could stay there for free if Gramps maintained the shrine. Sure, it meant that Mama would still have to work and maybe Kagome too, but not nearly as much. There wouldn’t be all that debt hanging over their heads, and wasn’t that wonderful news?
Kagome agreed, wholeheartedly. It was wonderful news. Almost too good to be true. After all, who had that kind of money?
Kagome knew. Kagome had a sinking feeling that she knew exactly who was behind the oh-so-generous donation at the hospital, and who had probably bought her family’s shrine. With a false and hearty cheer, Kagome told her mother she would soon see her at the apartment. She had to help pack now, after all. As she disconnected the phone, her gaze never wavered from the skyscraper in the distance.
A new type of dread rolled in her stomach. She was almost positive that Sesshoumaru was behind her family’s sudden fall of good fortune. And if that was the case…what was it, precisely, that he wanted to get out of it? Kagome both loved and hated Sesshoumaru for different reasons, but she was never blind to his true character. He was, after all, a business man first and foremost. He rarely did anything without reason, and everything he did served a purpose of some sort.
Paying Souta’s hospital bills? Buying back her family shrine? What did he hope to achieve from that? Her skin flashed cold then hot.
He would probably want her to…to go back to being his sex slave again. Kagome was shocked to find that the idea didn’t completely repulse her. She missed…she missed a lot of things.
The dominance in his touch as he held her down, the taste of his skin as her tongue traced over the hard lines in his abdomen, the heated look that came to those normally frigid eyes whenever she pleased him. She even…hell, she even missed the spankings. There was something erotic about being scolded and thrown over a man’s knee. Not being strong enough to free herself or fight back…to just sit there and take whatever it was that he gave her. And then be forced to thank him for it afterwards.
If only their relationship wasn’t built on blackmail, Kagome was certain things would have turned out differently. And now that she had told him she didn’t care whether or not he told the world about her history as a stripper (which was the furthest thing from the truth as possible) he was going to hit her with a different type of blackmail.
He was going to hold her family’s debt over her head. Force her to… to…
Kagome bit back a curse, knowing that she could do nothing to stop what was about to happen. With feet that felt like lead, she continued her slow shuffle down the sidewalk…and toward TaishoTech.

Kagome had never felt more out of place in her life then she did as she stood wide eyed in the foyer of Taisho Tech. Large walls comprised out of glass let the afternoon sunlight spill across the marble floors, with none of the cold, biting, winds to accompany it.
There was a man-made waterfall that reached, at least, four stories high. Kagome watched as the water cascaded down over the rocks mounted into the wall to land in a rush of sound in a large pool that housed a number of beautiful and exotic fish. Plush leather chairs and mahogany coffee tables were scattered throughout the main floor, many of which were occupied by people wearing thousand dollar business suits as they chatted over coffee or typed furiously on their laptops. There was a steady stream of people coming in and out, all in a hurry, and all dressed in business suits that screamed money.
Kagome swallowed the lump in her throat as she gamely made her way to the front desk. It was a large desk, manned by five ladies of varying ages but they all were perfectly dressed and coifed, not to mention beautiful. The desk itself was a large, crescent shaped, piece of furniture that dominated the center of the first floor.
As Kagome approached one of the women looked up, her blue gray eyes bright. Her smile barely flickered as she took in Kagome’s outfit. A flush of embarrassment heated Kagome’s cheeks at the other woman’s inspection. No doubt she was noticing Kagome’s scuffed dress shoes, her several seasons old blouse, the pressed and pleated dress pants that were hand-me-downs from her mother, and the thin and thread bare winter coat that threw off the entire ensemble. Her cheeks and nose were probably still red from the cold, and her long raven locks tousled from the wind.
For a second Kagome almost stopped right there and turned around. Was she crazy? Showing up at his place of business?
“Hello Miss. Welcome to Taisho Tech, my name is Akina. How may I be of assistance?” If the blonde secretary with the blue grey eyes and generous smile thought she didn’t belong there, it certainly didn’t show on her face or in her tone.
Kagome relaxed marginally and gave her a tentative smile.
“I’m, uhm, I’m here to see Sesshoumaru.”
At Akina’s blank stare, Kagome stammered “S-Sesshoumaru Taisho, that is.”
To her credit the secretary only faltered for a second before the warmth returned to her smile.
“Of course miss. I will phone his personal secretary. What did you say your name was?”
“Kagome Higurashi.”
Kagome’s gaze turned away from the front desk and instead focused on the front doors to the building. Thoughts of escape chased through her mind, her hands clenching into small fists at her sides to hide their trembling. It was one thing to confront Sesshoumaru in his home, and quite another to show up at his place of work where he was clearly King of the castle. What had she been thinking? There was no way she was going to get to him this way. He would know she was on her way, and he would turn her away. Might even have security come and escort her out the building. She firmed her jaw, steeling herself for the possibility. It was, after all, a probable one. It was only a week ago that she had clocked him one in the face. Despite the seriousness of the situation, her lips still quirked upward into a half smile at the memory.
“Miss Higurashi…” Kagome’s gaze flickered back to Akina the secretary. Her eyes widened at the sight of a muscle bound security guard standing next to her. She really shouldn’t be surprised, after all, she had accosted him the last time she came to see him. But the hurt that curled in her heart at the sight of the security guard who was clearly there to escort her out of the building could not be denied. What had she expected? That the cold, aloof, bastard that was Sesshoumaru would welcome her with open arms?
“You don’t need to…I can see myself out.” Kagome mumbled, fighting to keep her face neutral, her voice soft and mellow.
“Oh, Miss Higurashi! You misunderstand. Daichi is here to escort you to Lord Sesshoumaru’s office. It’s a special elevator that requires certain security access.”
Heat suffused Kagome’s cheeks. “Oh,” She shot a shy smile at the beaming security guard. “Okay then.”
“If you’ll follow me, Miss Higurashi?” Daichi lead her across the busy floor as he headed toward an elevator set away from the rest. The doors on this one were painted a bright gold. Sliding a card that was clipped to his belt through the reader, Daichi ushered her into the elevator.
Kagome tried to ignore the curious stares of the people passing by, as well as Daichi’s own speculative gaze. She was sure that she didn’t look like the typical woman who visited Sesshoumaru’s office. Anxiety and dread pooled in her stomach. This was such a bad idea. A horrible idea. Right as she was about to lose her nerve the doors to the elevator slid shut.
Great. Taking a deep breath to settle her nerves, Kagome thought about just what it was she wanted to say to Sesshoumaru. Or shout. She hadn’t decided yet how she felt about seeing him again.
When the elevators finally opened again and Kagome was motioned to step off, it was into a large waiting room. Plush carpets, oriental rugs, beautiful paintings and modern sculptures decorated the space. Daichi gave her another friendly smile and a chipper salute.
“Good luck!” He laughed just before the doors closed behind him.
Shaking her head as if that could shake away her nerves, Kagome approached the desk in the middle of the room that was perched in front of a pair of impressive double doors that led, no doubt, to Sesshoumaru’s office.
“Miss Higurashi, welcome to Taisho Tech. My Lord has been waiting for you.”
Kagome startled at the small, toad like, man huddled behind the rather large desk. In all honestly she hadn’t seen him there. His head barely cleared the desk. She smiled, gave him a nod, and made her way toward the double doors. She paused for a second, her hand resting on the handle as her heart thrummed furiously I n her chest. With another fortifying breath Kagome turned the handle and walked through into a dimly lit office. The door snicked shut behind her as her eyes fought to adjust to the darkness.
His office was huge, ornate, and masculine. Dark woods, deep carpets, an actual bar with what looked to be a collection of whiskey bottles, and a large monstrosity of a desk. The shades were drawn, and the doors to the patio were closed. But where was…
A startled gasp left her lips as a hard body collided with her own. One second she had been staring (well, more like gawking) and in the next second she found herself pressed up against a broad chest, an unforgiving hand tightening in the hair on the nape of her neck, the other pressing tightly on her lower back as he walked her backwards and pressed her hard against the cold wall. Another gasp left her, her heart beat stuttering, as she looked up into a pair of enraged golden eyes.
In the darkness of the room his eyes were positively luminous. A snarl stretched across his lips even as his nostrils flared to take in her scent. Kagome’s eyes were caught by his gaze, and she found herself suddenly unable to look away.
“S-Sesshou-“
The hand in her hand tightened as a low, rumbling, growl vibrated in his chest. Kagome quickly swallowed her tongue, her mouth snapping shut with an audible click as he jerked her head backward, baring her throat to her gaze. He had her pinned against the wall, his hard hot body pressed tight against her own. Her hands came up on their own volition to press against his chest. She could feel the hot heat of him beneath her palms, the hard muscles that hid behind the silk of his dress shirt. Her fingers curled in the fabric, fingers clenching, as fear and a tendril of arousal twined together in a curious mixture inside her. Would it always be like this? Would this side of him, this dark and animalistic side, always scare and secretly delight her? Was it crazy that she was getting wet from him dominating her like this?
Warm lips trailed against the exposed column of her throat. There was the hot flick of a tongue, the scrape of a fang, before he buried his face in the crook of her neck. Teeth grazed her skin, scraping along the sensitive flesh, while Kagome waited with baited breath. She captured her lower lip between her teeth as need and desire clawed through her. Dear gods, she had missed this.
“A week.” His deep baritone rumbled on a growl, the muscles in his body growing, if possible, even tenser.
“What do you have to say for yourself, little girl?” He growled the words softly, rearing back to stare into her dazed eyes.
“I…did you…” Kagome stuttered, trying to find the words and failing.
His eyes narrowed into slits as his gaze flicked up and down her body. If possible, he only grew more menacing.
“Bitch.” The word was a rumbling growl, eyes flashing with barely restrained anger. “Do you have any idea what I plan on doing to you?”
Confusion knotted Kagome’s brow. She didn’t understand why Sesshoumaru was so mad. If anyone around here had a right to be steaming pissed, it was her!
“You lied to me Kagome. You let me…”He growled low, and then thrust himself away from her. The loss of his strong hands, the heat of his body pressed flush against her own, left her reeling and bereft. She watched, flabbergasted, as Sesshoumaru dragged a hand through his long silver hair. The gesture in itself was telling. The unrufflable Lord Sesshoumaru, Demon Lord of the West, was losing his iron control. Normally cold and aloof, he paced in front of her. Long, powerful, strides.
“Perhaps it is because you are human.” The words were forced past gritted teeth. Teeth that were looking suspiciously long and pointy.
Kagome’s weak knees stopped knocking as she stubbornly forced some steel into her spine.
“Perhaps that is why you do not comprehend that you…are mine.” The words sent indignation coursing through her, her own eyes narrowing as she stared at the irate demon in front of her.
“Mine to fuck, mine to punish, mine to please. And mine to protect.” He paused in front of her, capturing her gaze again with his penetrating stare. “You are here to ask if it was this Sesshoumaru who took care of your little brother’s hospital bills, or if it is this Sesshoumaru who now owns the deed to your family shrine. Yes.”
Kagome felt an odd mix of anger, shame, and fear rise in her chest. Her lips trembled as she opened her mouth to…laugh? Cry? Lambast him? But before she could even utter a protest he was in her space, his lips covering her own and swallowing whatever words she would have tossed his way. Kagome melted under the experience of his kiss, the ferocity. Harsh nipping bites, the thrust and glide of his hot tongue as claimed her lips and mouth with his own. Arousal built, simmered, until she was a shaking mess in his arms. His large hands captured her face, holding her still to plunder her mouth before one slid to cup and tilt the back of her head, angling her for his kiss. She could hold nothing back from him, there was nothing he did not touch, taste, steal. A soft moan left her, and blinked owlishly up at him when he pulled away.
“Mine.”
A shivered traced its way up and down her spine at the guttural utterance.
“I have plans for you, girl. And they do not include allowing you to struggle, to suffer, under my care.”
The words sparked something inside of her, even though he had just kissed her into a gooey puddle of submission, there was still that spark of defiance in her that would never be extinguished.
“You’re one to talk, Sesshoumaru.” The words were spoken lowly, spilling unchecked past her kiss swollen lips. “I assure you, I suffered plenty under your care. By your hand, your belt, your paddle. Y-You did things that-“
Sesshoumaru snarled, golden eyes flashing as he pressed himself tighter to her, capturing her hands in his and pinning them to the wall.
“You can lie all you want to yourself, little girl. But don’t you dare dream of lying to this Sesshoumaru. You can say that you didn’t enjoy the things I did to you, to your body, but we both know the truth. I could taste your arousal, smell it. You loved what I did to you. And you still do. That’s why you’re here now.” He bent down, capturing her lips in another one of his punishing kisses.
“Isn’t it, Kagome?”
Kagome sucked in a breath, refusing to say the words that he wanted to hear. The words that she knew to be true.
A cold smirk pulled at the corner of his lips as he released her.
“I will give you one chance, and one chance only, to walk away from me. Here, now. You can leave and I will not follow you, there will be no repercussions.” He backed away from her slowly, turning his back on her, hands held loosely behind him. “I will not harm you or yours; you can even keep your little shrine.”
Kagome sucked in a disbelieving breath of air. Could it be so simple? He had paid for her little brother’s treatments, her family shrine…and he didn’t want anything from her in return? He wasn’t going to blackmail her with it?
“Or you can stay and nothing, will stop this Sesshoumaru from claiming what is his. You will take off your clothes, walk over to my desk, and bend over it. Then you will apologize to this Sesshoumaru, and beg me to fuck you.”
“ The choice,” He turned his head to meet her gaze, eyes flickering “is yours.”

Author’s Note:
Hey guys! Long time no see. Just in case you’re wondering why I dropped off the face of the planet…let me just say that having a two year old and a newborn is a complete and utter Sh*t show. Sometimes literally (more on that later). Anyway, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to happen next, and was suffering with a major case of writer’s block . Really, the driving reason as to why there’s a new chapter up is those reviewers who just kept on reviewing. I mean, I’d go a month without seeing something in my inbox and all of a sudden there’s a review on this story asking when in the heck I’m going to update. :-P THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE and your PERSISTANCE! Several naps were sacrificed to bring you this chapter. I hope you enjoyed it. Let me know what you think.
