The pain had finally started to fade away, along with the last remenants of that which had dwelled within her soul since birth. She gasped as Kinaka removed the dagger from her chest, an evil smile across his features. She knew that with that dagger, he had not only been able to pull her element but those of her mother, grandmother, and aunt. His utter delight made her skin crawl and she wished with all of her might that there was something she could do. But how could she? She had only known the power of her demon for a day and she didn't even know if she had the energy to attempt such an attack. I am weak. She thought. A bright light suddenly burst infront of her and she closed her eyes, afraid of what was coming.
"You are not weak, my dear Sakura."
The unfamiliar voice pulled her from thoughts of death and she looked up into the eyes of the strange woman. Something felt almost familiar about her and the question came before she had even realized she spoke. "Who are you?"
"Rukia."
The shock must have registered on her face because the woman who called herself Rukia smiled. How could she possibly be her. Rukia was long dead and this woman wasn't even in a spirit form. It looked as though her body had never been scathed.
"Sakura. It is really me. As for my body... let's just say I have a few tricks of my own, even though my life in this world is very much over."
She suddenly remembered Kinaka and began to warn her but Rukia simply raised a hand to silence her. "I have stopped time. We do not have long, but he cannot hurt us at this moment."
"Stopped time? How are you able to do such a thing?" She could apparently hear her thoughts so this shouldn't have come as much of a shock.
"We do not have time for me to explain the extent of my power. We need to discuss yours and your future."
"What power?" Sakura didn't understand what the hell was going on but she was tired of being hunted without knowing why and innocent people getting hurt in the process.
"First, though it may feel so now, your soul is not broken. Rather, you now have the chance to become whole again?"
"Again?"
"Yes. Many years ago, I made a mistake in the hopes of saving my children. I accepted the help of four eager Kami's who offered to bind their soul's to that of my children and it would strengthen them. I did not know until after death what I had done. The kami were not truly worried about the well-being of my children.Though they did keep their promise and my children were safe from harm, it was you they were waiting for."
"Why?"
"I was a very powerful sorceress in my human life. It has been lost to the story of Tsubasa and I for many years. I did not know why I was born with such abilities but I did not question it. It was simply who I was. Magic. Destiny. Love. These are all very tricky matters that can be changed or molded into weapons for good and evil alike. The reason why you were not only hunted, but protected at the expense of the lives of your family, is your heart. Your heart has the potential for the brightests of lights as well as a great potential for darkness. Before you ask why, I do not know the answer. You yourself may never know the reason why it was your soul that my magic was born into, but it was and it is a great responsability to bear. I have the power to restore the soul that you woud have been born with without my original interferance. I owe you that."
"So you are telling me that if I do this, then I at least have a chance of defeating Kinaka and his mate?"
"Yes. Just remember Sakura, with this you have the power to become both light and dark. It will be the true feelings of your heart that create your path. There will be things that will happen that may cause you to stumble. So long as you have faith in yourself and in the good nature of this world, you will never fall."
"I understand. One question, if I may, why were you not able to destroy them in the past?" A sad look passed across Rukia's features and Sakura regretted asking but she needed to know.
"Tsubasa and I were fighting daily against Kinaka and the youkai and the humans under his control. One day we became seperated in the midst of battle. We had our connection through the imprinting though so we would know if one of us needed the other. We had everything under control until Akuhei showed up at the battlefield. She is like you, only her soul is as black as a starless night. With her, she brought my youngest daughter, Akemi. She was only a babe and completely defensless as she was our fifth child born after the soul-blending. She beheaded my baby right there without even flinching. Devestated, I hunted down her son who was only but a babe himself, and I killed him. I allowed my heart to be consumed with revenge and it darkened my soul, and my magic. Her son was innocent and there was no guarantee that he would grow up to be evil. My magic was no longer pure enough or strong enough to defeat them. Are you sure you still want to do this?"
"If what you say is true then the fate of the world rests in my hands. I will not abandon those who would fight against this evil simply because I fear it. Please, restore what is mine."
Rukia lifted her hand, palm up, and a small ball of light appeared above it. Sakura watched in anticipation as she blew on it and the little light came to hover in front of her heart before piercing though her chest. It was just like when she had accepted the panther. A familiar tingle under her skin had her looking down at her hands and she willed them to be free of the binds. They snapped and Sakura rose to her feet.
"Most would have been in shock after something like that but I guess you have done this a time or two."
"I was prepared for it this time. The magic feels like youki."
"In time you will be able to use them as one. With a bit of practice. I'm sure your mate will be pleased to show you how."
"Mate?" Okay, now she believed that Rukia was grasping at strings.
"I must go now Sakura. Remember everything that I've told you. He will start to move the second I dissipate so be ready."
"What do you mean mate? I don't have one."
Rukia gave her a cheeky grin just before she disappeared.

"InuYasha-sama. You must not go after them."
InuYasha had never wanted to genuinely hurt the flea but today, he wanted to squash him like a spider. "Myoga, if you do not explain what the hell is going on here I am going to squeeze you until that cowardly head pops off your body."
InuYasha, Stop it. Kagome had been listening to this over and over since Sesshomaru had darted off without explination and it was seriously pissing her off.
"I cannot explain what I do not yet know. Please just be patient. I am sure that they will both return soon."
Kagome, I don't like it. There are too many unknown factors and it is a danger to you, my mate.
Kagome knew that he was right. There were some things that needed to be dealt with when Sesshomaru and Sakura returned. "Myoga, when they come back, will they be able to answer our questions? I know that there is something you are holding back. I also know that you have always had your reasons for doing so, but this time... InuYasha is right. We need to know, as soon as possible what it going on and how to help fight whatever it is that took Sakura in the first place."
"I cannot promise that there still won't be some things that Sakura cannot explain, but I know that she will be able to tell us what she chose." Myoga prayed that Sakura had made the right choice and had accepted her destiny, for they would all be doomed if she hadn't."

Sesshomaru had heard everything through their link. Time had not stopped for him so he just kept running. He had tried to fly and it was a bit faster but their bond was young yet and she was easier to track on ground. Of course, he had know the second her voice had screamed across his thoughts earlier what had happened. Imprinting, though uncommon, did still happen and was a highly coveted thing in the youkai world. It was also not uncommon for it to happen before the mating occured, as it allowed for complete openess from both partners. InuYasha and Kagome would have imprinted much sooner had it not been for his lingering feelings for the dead miko. Love. It was the only thing that could seperate two imprinted souls. Love did not always come with an imprinting and it had him wondering at the possibility. Could Sakura ever come to love one such as him in the way that Kagome loves InuYasha? His curiosity would have to be put on hold as he came upon the trio just as Rukia was starting to disappear.
