Hastily Kagome dried her damp ebony locks with a silk cloth as she observed the emperors scrutiny. His predatory gaze pinned her towards the corner of the bath house as his golden orbs scanned over her wet form --once again causing a slight blush out of her. The man certainly has no reservation .He was not apologetic for any actions on his part, this perhaps was were Sesshomaru acquired his boldness. Sesshomaru-sama...
Flushing again slightly at the thought of the crown prince the onna quickly cleared her throat and greeted the emperor. She couldnt forget her manners or exactly whom was standing before her. "Greeting emperor, I apologize for losing track of time please forgive me.I was just about to make some tea may I offer you some" she asked nervously.Taking in his grinning form and noding of approval she tightened the silk robe about her before dashing hastily around the large male---she hoped that the subject of her previous behavior would be forgotten.

The gentle sound of a shoji screen sliding behind Kagome pulling her out of her thoughts and current task at hand. Cocking a head slightly she noticed the emperors inspection of the small quarters she held. Grasping the warm tea pot and tray of cups she walked towards the low wooden table placing both items in a large crystal tray---another luxury she had found within the residence.
"Your living conditions is in need of improvement onna,".Tougas baritone voice said firmly breaking the onna out of thought. Swiping a claw over the walls he clicked his tongue irritably .
"The former concubine that resided here lived in much better condition. Upon her passing the majority of her belongings were distributed throughout the small village she grew up in-it was her dying wish. This left the place lacking of course, it is something you should have bought to my attention." Turning he walked towards a small stool alongside the one the onna occupied and took a seat.
Stretching his long legs awkwardly on the wooden floor he frowned. "No this wont do, some plush cushions would be in order -amongst other things" he stated observing the woman as she poured a cup of tea and placed it in front of him.
"I am content really". Kagome rebutted suddenly ,raising a slim hand about her face defensively. "Its more than I had in my Edo village. I didnt have my own bath house and well its not that bad here." She whispered quietly looking about her small home with appreciation. She could survive with the basic necessities she currently held. It was what she was use to afterall--why change now because of a status in the palace.
"Another quality I appreciate from you--Kagome. You never cease to amaze me. However if you continue to live like this others would assume that Ive abandoned you as a responsibility it will reflect poorly on my person--as well as Sessshomaru's." Touga smirked at her sudden reaction at his sons name. Sipping the brewed tea briefly he awaited the question he knew her intricate mind would stir.
"How does this affect the crown prince, if I am your concubine" Kagome replied trying to keep a facade of seriousness within her tone though her face had failed her. Blushing again at the thought of the male she turned and motioned to pour herself a cup of tea.
I had hoped to prolong this subject but since the cat is out of the bag then lets talk about it. Pausing slightly his golden orbs shifted towards the onnas face .
"Originally I had called for a small auditioning for the Crown Prince. The harem already had prospects for me which Kimiko had selected over a few centries so there was no need for my involvement here--originally. Though after seeeing you that has all changed. You were to be my sons concubine however I know of his stubborn nature and accepting a human is well unlikely in his case so I intervened .
I did not want you to face any adversity because of this. It will take time to bring down some of his defenses in this I will aid you in. I will allow him to bed you first if it comes to that. However I am not to be left out in the equation. If we both come to an agreement --sharing you is my hope.
Gasping loudly Kagome face took on different hues of pinks as she grasped the sides of her ivory teacup firmly. What kind of woman do you think I am --Some harlot to be passed amongst you two? Your father and son for goodness sake !
Stuttering slightly after she had found her stance she shook her head non compliantly.
"I-I cant its indecent" she moaned burying her face in her hands shyly. I mean for a woman to have two males is taboo in itself.
Facing him once again yet blushing furiously her mind idly pondered at the thought of the two handsome males awaiting her in the bed chambers. Would I have to perform my duty to them both--at the same time? Ah!
"Is it not a sin to be shared amongst you both like this. I mean wouldnt it be frowned upon" she trailed still shaken over the thought of the idea
Analyzing her expressions humorously Touga pondered at her question before shaking his head."No ,not in inu culture but perhaps for a humans--it is actually encouraged."
"Encouraged " She shrieked throwing her hands up above her slightly. "How can a woman feel dignified with such an act. I mean wouldnt others view her as well a whore--.."? Her trail of words finished slowly, nervously she searched his face for any sign of offense . She had already taken so many liberties in his presence --she hoped she did not offend him yet again .
Aside from this she could not judge so harshly she was not verse in the lifestlye of a youkai especially that of an inu. "Forgive me, I was to quick to speak, I should not judge so openly it is only due to lack of knowledge." she apologized averting her gaze from his burning golden ones.
Seeing her sudden reservation Touga mused quietly .Yes this woman was definitely complex and interesting. He reckoned she would keep them on their toes everyday--if she accepted his proposition. Shaking his head out of thought he nodded in an acknowledgment towards her apology. If he was offended he did not show it .He knew any actions on her part was solely due to the circumstances of her humanity.
He momentarily enjoyed the fluctuating of her concerned moods. He decided that inu culture was something he would have Sesshomaru breif her on upon their proper introduction. The two needed some form of interaction if this were to work afterall.
"Onna calm your many queries. I am not easily angered .Your transgressions are overlooked--for now" he responded curtly.
"I will have Sesshomaru englighten you on our culture it is mandatory for your stay here in the palace. Infinite knowledge is his specialty and his archive study reflects just that--aside from this it is also his duty." Pausing slightly he decided a synopsis of an explanation would not hurt if only to calm the womans worries.
"You will not be deemed a harlot in actuality it will magnify your rank amongst all the existing concubines or prospects. To have two powerful males alongside you is the epitome of authority, prestige and success for a woman--as well as security for her family. Seeing as he is next in line to be emperor it is not taboo but rather customary in our lineage once agreeable.
You will not be treated as a whore , we will spent individual yet adequate time with you when that time comes and treat you with the utmost of respect.
This act decreases the need for competiton between both males where heirs and authority is concerned--both males will have equal authority .Aside from this it secures the future of the imperial dynasty should Sesshomaru decide not to take any mate down the line."
Surprised at the new found information Kagome brows creased slightly in thought. He was not imposing this on her but rather he was asking. As emperor he could have demanded that she complied but yet he was giving her the option. Security for her family. To her that seemed to be the only logical reason if there was any--for her to consider this proposition.
Of course the whole reason for becoming a concubine in the first place was centered around the prosperity of her family. What did it matter if she had to be shared amongst the two. Either way her body would not be her own. But could she do this without becoming attached to either of her companions? Love did not seem to be a part of the package, and being of a passionate nature she wanted more than just the physical aspect. Snapping out of thought Kagome recalled something he had mentioned. A mate?
"Emperor what is a mate exactly or who can be I should ask particularly" she voiced concerned. She did not want to agree to this if another woman was to be involved. Of course many women were involved ---they were concubines for goodness sake but this mate seemed more .Personal.
So she is not opposing the idea completely she is only concerned of how she will be perceived--and rather whom she will conflict with Touga mused quietly. Analyzing the onna he sensed a bit of nervousness within her aura alongside something else--curiosity. Chuckling to himself softly he downed the cup of tea he had forgotten of quickly before addressing the question.
"A mate is somewhat like a wife in human terms--though much more. Humans can dishonor their partners or their commitment inus cannot. We mate for life to that one individual"
"The mate of a successor has the same authority as the existing empress--his mother. If I die and Sesshomaru is emperor and his mother remains alive she would assume the position as empress dowager-- she will have to retire her position for the new empress. Every inu must take a mate eventually Sesshomaru however has been reluctant and he may put this off for as long as his mother and I remain alive .
A youkai empress in her prime would make no inclination of retiring where the throne is concerned. They enjoys the power and the prestige and because of this another form of alliance is made for the sake of the reputation of the crown prince" He paused slightly at the sound of the onnas small voice
"The Koshitsu no Sokushitsu" Kagome answered quietly as understanding dawned her face. An imperial concubine is usually requested. "Tenno I still dont understand you had a former imperial concubine and a mate. If you had a mate why would you need Izayo..-- "
Clasping her hand to her mouth quickly she quieted her self at her forwardness and disclosure of the womans name. Miroku had only mentioned the name that at her appointment that day. My appointment!
Gasping suddenly she had forgotten the request she had made of the physician He would usually distribute the concoction to her personally around midnight or in rare cases have it sent over discreetly by his trusted servant. What time is it how long have we been here ? She thought frantically searching the small gleam of the moonlight which reflected on the teapots surface for an answer to her pressing question.
" Emperor what time do you predict it is exactly" Kagome pressed suddenly digressing from the conversation at hand.
Noticing her apprehension he pulled a small sand globe out of his pocket and inspected it throughly before concluding that it had been about an hour close to midnight. He looked around the room idly he had not been aware of the time himself. He did not wish to overstay his time here it was late and the onna would benefit from an early start of rest--seeing as tomorrow he would properly introduce her to the household--Sesshomaru in particular.
"I understand that it is late", he answered suddenly rising from the make shift stool he once occupied."I will have to resume our conversation another time though I will answer your last question. I am not sure as to how you were informed of her but Izayoi was my imperial concubine. She was housed here for half a decade before Kimiko became my empress."
" I had no intentions of mating anytime soon, I loved Izayoi and was content with our relationship. An heir however was demanded from the court--a first born heir could not come from a human--it would lead to an uprising from many whom deemed it unfit. I too was reluctant as well to mate but had no choice in the end." Walking towards the exist of the small residence and then pausing Touga turned as he observed the onnas shifting about on the wooden stool.
"An imperial concubine will bear the moon mark and her rank is high in likeness to what you humans call --a wife. She is not considered a mate and can be replaced if necessary. She however can become a mate if the male so chooses. I did not mark Izayoi being human--I held many reservations because I considered her fate. She would have faced alot of hardship and adversity out of my presence.
Her death is still a result of my--negligence" he finished angrily. Growling harshly his claws retracted wildly slashing the outter shoji screen with a force the onna didnt know he could posses. To this day he blamed himself for her demise had he not been so busy in court or with affairs alot could have been avoided.
He was only one male he could not be everywhere at once however his rationality had not made sense of that as of late. Gathering his composure quickly he turned to see the rushing of the small woman who had somehow darted towards his side in reassurance.
"Tenno", she whispered fearfully ,yet apart of her could feel his suffering. The male had spent a decade mourning over something he felt he contributed to, had she not felt the same way upon hearing she was the result of her mothers death?
" You are not at fault, you did what had to be done .As emperor the priorities of the nation should override our personal ones." Patting his large shoulders shakily she gasped slightly as she felt him pull her into a strong embrace. Burrowing her nose into his chest deeply she inhaled.
He smelled entirely of musk,ylang ylang and a few other scents she couldn't decipher at the moment. Mimicking his actions she wrapped a shy arm around his torso-- pausing slightly as she felt him loosen their embrace.
"Onna I have seem to come undone in your presence." Touga mumbled softly. Caressing her heart shaped face his golden iris pierced into hers intensely. Another reason as to why I believe you are capable of bringing down my sons defenses.
"Consider my earlier proposition, it is your choice and it will benefit you greatly as well as your family. You will be rendering a great service this way to the household" Releasing her he straightened and opened the screen door slightly. Searching the area he located Bankutso.Beckoning to his trusted servant he ordered for him to prepare the stallion that awaited outside the onnas residence for departure.
Gasping slightly at her lack of manners she opened the screen door wider observing the attendant Bankutso who prepared the stallion and gestured at her briefly with a breif bow.  Waving at him slightly embarrassed her eyes darted between his and the emperors

"Head attendant Bankutso you were outside all along. Forgive me I should have invited you in or at least offered you some tea ." she called out uncertained and throughly guilt ridden. How could the man have stood outside in this cold for so many hours. She suddenly felt like a bad host.
Smiling slightly the servant held the dimming tea lantern above his head to acknowledge the woman properly .
"It is customary for me to await his majesty as I did. Private proceedings between him and his concubine are not my...concerns " he finished formally. Pulling on the harness he brought the stallion at a lower level as he waited the emperor.
Flushing at the thought of anything private between them she nodded in understanding. Turning towards a grinning Touga she shifted her body slightly allowing him to exist outside towards the awaiting stallion.
"I will consider everything you have said before coming to a decision" she whispered . There were so many things she needed to be aware of about their culture before she could even consider the idea.
"As I would expect onna." Touga answered back patting her shoulders gently. I will send a court lady to fetch you tomorrow she will escort you to the palace I am sure you have alot of questions--they can be addressed here."
Court lady? Oh No Sango I cant forget Mirokus petition in all this. Despite the fact that she had yet to serve the emperor Miroku had stuck to his end of the bargain-- distributing the concoction to her in small dosages he had kept to it faithfully over the past month.
"Can it be court lady Sango" Kagome asked suddenly. "I prefer her company, actually if she can handle more affairs concerning me it would be helpful-because she is human also I can relate to her" she added hopeful in her persuasion
Searching her face shortly Touga nodded in finality. " Very well , I will dispense her here a little before midday tomorrow. Rest easy Kagome." Mounting the stallion he smiled at her breifly as he allowed the servant to direct it towards the narrow pebbled pathway.
This Sango was also a former servant to Izayoi, the human servant was loyal alongside her even upon death. I can see that the onna judge of character is just as sharp then. I will have to look into this ..Sango. Touga mused quietly.
Closing his eyes his mind pondered towards his son and his reaction in all of this. Would he object or would he relish in the thought of being an equal alongside his sire. Power was something he knew he could use to persuade the stubborn whelp. It was something he was doting on.
Watching the figures disappearing into the narrow shadowed path the onna sighed loudly. Closing the screen door she rushed towards the chestnut trunk to adorn herself in something more appropriate--she had long forgotten that she still wore the flimsy silk robe.
Smiling contently she was relieved at the feat she accomplished somehow she had managed to put in her request where Sango was concerned. Miroku would be happy. Other uncertainties arose despite this small victory, she still was not sure of entirely what was expected of her should she agree to this idea. Aside from this she was also aware of Kimikos devices where the killing of babes were concerned.
How could she allow herself to be so closely aquainted with Sesshomaru especially if he had a part to play in all this. "I have to know " she whispered silently. She had to find out exactly whats happening ---and if the Crown Prince is truly involved.
She was determined because this would change everything. Closing the trunk firmly she rose and adorned herself quickly Miroku would be here shortly.

An/ There you have it a long chapter I decided upon to make up for my hiatus my little one is teething and has become very demanding. I hope this answers your questions in regards to the importance of an imperial concubine in this story. Kagome did have a repayment it was more along the line of quiet conversation tea and some delicacies but of course Touga saw more than he bargained for so I dismissed the idea lol. He got his recompense!!
New questions pose you I suppouse. Will Sesshomaru agree to this ,will Kagome? Can such a proposition work? Izayoi was stationed before Kimiko in the past...is that why Kimiko became Jealous hmmm stay tuned.
