Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha, or any of the characters. I don't make any money from this story. |
“Come back to try dying once again? I won’t disappoint this time.” The youkai laughs, stepping closer to Sesshomaru, who doesn’t even flinch.
“It is you that will not survive this day.” Sesshomaru draws Bakusaiga and points it towards Zenaku head, promising blood.
My heart races, and a bead on sweat trails down the side on my face, as I stare at the ominous being below. Zenaku. The man, no monster, that took away my Inuyasha. The bastard that locked Inuyasha up somewhere I can’t find him. Here he is, posed for a fight with Sesshomaru, unaware that I’m about to kill him.
Rin gives me a confident nod and I slowly pull out an arrow and nock it to the string. I want to be ready for the perfect shot.
Sesshomaru holds his ground, sword raised as the monster charges towards him, claws aimed at the diayoukai.
Zenaku’s war cry echoes around us, bouncing off the surrounding trees. The ear-piercing scream sends shivers down my spine, making me wince. It sounds like the painful suffering of hundred lost souls crying out in anger. Eerie.
Sesshomaru leaps into the air and spilt second before the claws could come down on him. Zenaku follows, jumping into the air and making a jab a Sesshomaru gut, who side steps it, then thrusts Bakusaiga down towards the monster’s head.
Zenaku doesn’t move quick enough and takes a direct hit on his shoulder, sending him spiraling down to the ground. Dirt flies into the air at the forcefully impact causing a huge cloud of dust.
Sesshomaru floats gracefully down a fair distance from the crash zone, and keeps a ready stance, prepared for another attack.
“Are you sure he needs me?” I whisper to Rin. “It really looks like Sesshomaru has the upper hand already.” This doesn’t seem right. I expect a crafty opponent. Zenaku just jumps in and swings. Surely Sesshomaru can handle that.
“Look.” She notions to the dust cloud as it dissipates, reveling an unharmed Zenaku smiling cockily at Sesshomaru.
“He doesn’t need to fight with skill. He can’t be harmed. He wins by simply tiring out his opponent and striking until he hits.”
“That’s kinda playing dirty isn’t it?” Well, I guess I’m really not playing fair either, considering I’m going to shot him even though he doesn’t know I’m here.
I bring my bow up in front of me, getting ready to take aim. “Should I now?”
“If Lord Sesshomaru begins speaking, then yes. My Lord will try to keep the youkai still for you to have the best…”
“Bastard! That hurt!” The yelp cuts Rin off as Zenaku gives his perfectly fine shoulder a little rub and stretches it out over his head. He’s mocking Sesshomaru. That just doesn’t seem smart.
“You almost broke it that time, Lord Sesshomaru.” The creepy voice playfully taunts.
None the sarcasm was lost to the diayoukai, who let out a warning growl. The deep vibrations from the vocalizations of his discontent reach even us in at our safe distance. He’s pissed.
I take a deep breath, trying to settle my nerves. Any second now I will be aiming at the heart of that monster, and I’m excepted to hit a bulls-eye. I need to be calm.
“Do not speak to me. You devalue my name by simply saying it.” Sesshomaru aura spikes, jolting me into action. Now’s the time.
I aim my bow and pull back on the string. Following the sight down the arrow, I trace it’s future path. After it leaves my bow, it will fly past Sesshomaru and strike Zenaku in the chest, right under his necklace.
Necklace? I squint harder, staring at the round black bead and familiar bone fangs. I know that necklace. It’s the beads the subjectgation
Kaede gifted Inuyasha with the day I met him. The ones that no one but I can remove, I’m sure of it. How in the hell did he get them?
I climb my aim higher, past the neck, over the young boyish face, and stop when I lock gaze with a wide pair of golden eyes.
Inuyasha? It couldn’t be… could it?
We stare at each other for what seems like hours and is probably only seconds. My heart starts thumping wildly and my blood races. I can hardly breath from anticipation. Could it really be him?
“Inuyasha…” I whisper and lower my bow. He smiles.
I’m not even aware to Rin’s frantic orders until she grabs my arm and shakes me from my trance.
“Now Kagome. You have to shoot him now!” I drop my weapon and shake my head.
“I can’t. He’s Inuyasha.”
“What? No, it’s not! You have to do it now, before it’s too la…” We both protectively tuck our heads to the ground as a burst of youkai rolls past me and hits Rin straight on. The energy knocks her back into a tree, where slumps to the ground, chocking for air and coughing up blood.
“Are you ok?” I sit up and make an effort to crawl to her when movement from the ground catches my eye.
Zenaku leaps into the air and heads straight to us. Sesshomaru goes to intercept, but is easily knocked away with tentacles growing from the youkai back. Naraku deja-vu. The diayoukai flings across the sky and into the blush, crushing through trees.
Zenaku lands directly in front of me, the ground giving way and crumbling under his feet.
I stare at him with a strange combination of terror and love. Now that he is this close, I can see an uncanny resemblance to Inuyasha. Even though he is now taller and greyer, grew the more common pointy elf-like ears, and has dark hair, the similarities are unmistakable. He has Inuyasha golden emotion filled eyes, innocent young face, and confident, yet cocky smile.
I’m not sure if I should be happy or sad. Did Zenaku consume Inuyasha? Absorbed him to become stronger. Or is Zenaku, Inuyasha? Did Inuyasha offer up his body like Onigumo had for Naraku? And does it even matter? There is no way I can kill him now. I finally know where Inuyasha is trapped, all I got to do is save him.
“Kagome?” The odd eachoey voice sounds nothing like Inuyasha, but the softness and affection in saying my name does.
“Inuyasha.” I crawl to my knees, not sure my legs would support me, and hold open my arms open wide, beckoning him to me.
He steps forward and drops knees, his strong arms wrap around me and I hug around his chest. He snuggles his face into my neck and sighs contently, as I run my hand in smoothing circles over his back. Even though he doesn’t look the same, it’s great to hold him again. I don’t know exactly how this all happened, or where everything went so wrong, but I’m going to fix it. I’m going to fix him.
“You came for me, Kagome,” he softly spoke into my ear. “I knew you would.” He holds onto my shoulder and pushes me back slightly, staring deeply at me with a sad smile. “Thank you for coming… But now you have to die.” His face twists into a evil grin and his hands tighten around my arms, holding me still.
Before I can quite catch up to all that is going on, a long scaly tail creeps over his shoulder. The curved tip of a giant scorpion stinger is posed at my neck. I squirmy violently, trying to shake loose, but he is holding on too tightly.
“Inuyasha, don’t! What are you doing? Stop it!” I yank back as he chuckles evilly at my feeble attempts. “Let go of me!”
“Sorry, I just can’t do that Wench.“ The stinger jabs down. A flash of silver reflects the sun as a sword stops the poisonous tip from penetrating me, only inches from my body.
“You cannot have her!” The diayoukai growls deeply.
“Sesshomaru!” I cry happily, as my pissed off hero forces back Zenaku with brute force, pushing him off the edge of the high outcrop.
The youkai makes a annoyed hiss as he falls, flipping in the air to land on his feet, not even taking a second to steady himself before pushing off the ground and propelling back to us.
One of Sesshomaru’s strong arms wraps around me and he jumps to Rin, wrapping the other around her. The instant we are all touch a bright light engulfs us.
The world becomes fuzzy and my body feels weightless, like it’s not even there. The light becomes blindly, and I try to shut my eyes, only to find them gone. I grab for Sesshomaru, but my arms are missing too, and so is he. Freaking out, I search around for something tangible, but I only see what I think might be forest whiz by us at on alarming speed. Then it hits me.
Sesshomaru transformed us into that strange ball of light he can travel in, though I can’t recall seeing him do it often. I don’t know where our bodies are, but now that I realize what is happening, I can sense both Rin and Sesshomaru with me, all around me. It’s comforting.
The whizzing stops and the light disappears. All three of us are standing, bodies intact, at a large cave.
Ah-Un looks up from his sleep at the dark entrance, giving us a once over, before laying his heads back down.
I step away from my so called partners. They lied. He lied. He did know where Inuyasha was, and that he was alive, but he would tell me. I can’t trust him.
I drop my bow and slowly step back, inching my way to the forest, trying not to cry.
Sesshomaru cocks hid head slightly at my awkward retreat, then turns he attention away from me, looking annoyed. He supports Rin, as they go to the cave and disappear within it’s depths.
That asshole. He isn’t even going to try and stop me. Whatever. I don’t want to stay with him anymore anyways. Why would I want to stay with a man that would so easily and bluntly lie to me? Especially about something so fucking important.
I turn, running into the woods with nothing but the clothes on my back. What am I going to do now? Who will help me now?

So, Inuyasha’s the bad guy. Did you see that one coming? I threw in some small hints, but was hoping it wasn't too obivous. Reviews please!!!!
