Chapter 13
When they arrived back home Sesshomaru was instantly on alert
when he saw an unfamiliar car parked outside the gate and the driver
waiting.� He was about to go check when
Kagome grabbed his arm smiling.
�It�s ok I know who it is,� she said excitedly.
Sesshomaru studied her for a moment and then nodded.� They pulled up to the gate and entered the
code, as it opened he waved for the car to follow.� Kagome was practically bouncing in her seat
with excitement.� As soon as the car
stopped Sesshomaru got out and helped her.�
She walked to the car parked a little ways away.� She would have run if she didn�t hurt so bad.� The engine of
the car stopped and the headlights went off.�
Kagome walked over to the drivers
door and opened it practically pulling the driver out.� She laughed as she hugged the person,
Sesshomaru could smell her tears of joy and happiness.� He could also tell that the person she was
hugging was a woman, even though he couldn�t see her yet.
Inuyasha climbed out of the car and handed Rin to Sesshomaru
then shifted Shippo in his arms.� He took
about two steps then froze.� He looked
over to where Kagome was and sniffed the air.
�What�s wrong Inuyasha?� Sesshomaru asked.
Inuyasha didn�t answer for a moment then, �Sesshomaru?� Don�t laugh at me, but what does it mean when
it feels like a scent is trying to pull you to it?� Inuyasha asked in a soft
voice.
Sesshomaru was shocked by the question.� He knew Inuyasha didn�t know a lot of things
about his demon heritage, but his instincts were working perfect.� Sesshomaru shook his head for a second to try
to clear it.
�Do you mean that it feels like someone is pulling you toward
them?�
�Yes, it feels like it is tugging on every part of me.�
Sesshomaru motioned for Inuyasha to step a little farther
away with him so they could talk in private and he could still keep an eye on
Kagome.
�Well Inuyasha that usually means that your instincts are
awakening.� Usually you feel that tug
when your true soul mate is nearby.�� I
warn you though, don�t jump in too quickly.�
Your instincts may just be reacting from what happened earlier.� Also if the one you are drawn to is a human
you have to take it slow and explain to her about your instincts and mating
rituals.� Even if she is human she will
feel the tug too if she is your soul mate.�
Inuyasha took all of this in and slowly nodded his
understanding.� His
eyes never leaving Kagome and her friend.� Sesshomaru watched him for a minute.� He actually hoped that this person was
Inuyasha�s soul mate, his brother deserved happiness.� Maybe he would finally have it.� He heard Inuyasha�s breath
catch and turned to see Kagome walking toward them with her friend.� Her friend had long dark brow
hair, green eyes and she was about the same size and build as Kagome, her skin
was a little darker though.� He could
hear Inuyasha�s heart rate speed up.�
Kagome walked up gave Sesshomaru a quick peck on the lips.
�Sesshomaru, Inuyasha, this is my friend Emerald.� I met her at college and when I dropped out
she and I kept in touch,� Kagome said smiling, she winked at Sesshomaru and he
knew that she felt the bond between her friend and Inuyasha, �Emerald you can
drop the spell hiding your scent Sesshomaru is a full demon and Inuyasha is a
half demon.�
Sesshomaru felt the air shift slightly and then he caught the
new scent of Kagome�s friend.� He could
now smell that Emerald was a full blood fox demon.� He couldn�t help but smile,
that was perfect, especially since Inuyasha had adopted a fox kit.� Inuyasha stiffened for a moment then stepped
forward to shake the girl�s hand.
�Why don�t we head inside and put the children to bed, then
we can talk more,� Sesshomaru suggested taking Kagome�s hand and leading her to
the door.
Inuyasha still held Emerald�s hand and led her inside as
well.� As the two men went upstairs to
put the children to bed Kagome led Emerald to the living room to talk.
�So what�s up Emerald?�
To what do I owe this visit?�
�I saw the news, it showed that you
almost got shot.� I had to come and make
sure my sister was ok.� I also heard the
good news and had to come meet the man that stole your heart,� Emerald said
smiling.
�So you were worried about me and you wanted to meet my mate
to be?�
�Of course, I am surprised that you didn�t call me to let me
know the good news sooner.�
�Well it has been a tough week,� Kagome said sighing before
telling her friend everything that had happened since the funeral.
Emerald was pissed, she only calmed
down when Kagome told her about purifying Kouga.� That wolf was lucky, if she had known about
this she would have done a lot worse.�
That jerk would have suffered to his last breath.� Kagome knew what her friend was
thinking.� She could feel the anger
rolling off her in waves.
�Emerald,� Kagome asked smiling mischievously, �I couldn�t
help but notice yours and Inuyasha�s reactions to each other.� What do you think of him?�
Emerald blushed, �He�s sooo
cute.� It was so precious seeing him with
that little fox kit in his arms.� Do you
think he likes me?�
�Are you kidding?� He
couldn�t take his eyes off you.�
�Really?�
I hope he likes me, I feel a tug pulling me towards him.� Kagome that only happens when you find your
soul mate,� she said looking at Kagome hopefully.
�Emerald, I felt the bond between you two.� I honestly think that you two are meant to
be.� I know you were hurt in the past,
but I think you should trust your instincts.�
Inuyasha is a good guy, I don�t think he will
hurt you.�
�So you think that I should trust my instincts and give him a
chance if he�s interested?�
�Yes I do.� Just take
it slow.�
�How is it you always know what to say?�� Emerald asked feeling calm wash through her.
�Because I know you,� Kagome said hugging her.
Emerald heard her hiss as she hugged her back.� She could feel her anger start to rise again, her friend was still in pain from that asshole
wolf.� She was about to ask if she could
get her something when Sesshomaru appeared at Kagome�s side with a cup of
tea.� Emerald could smell the herbs in
the tea and knew it was to help the pain.�
Kagome took the cup and thanked Sesshomaru.� Emerald smiled at him and nodded, he was so
attentive and she could tell that he would take good care of her friend.
�So you are the wonderful man who has captured my sister�s
heart.� I am glad she finally found
someone and I have a feeling that you will always take care of her.�
�I love Kagome and nothing will hurt her as long as I am with
her,� Sesshomaru replied.
�Good.��
Sesshomaru sat on the couch pulling Kagome into his lap.� Emerald watched the scene and smiled, finally
her friend had the happiness she deserved and was always denied.� A few minutes later Inuyasha walked into the
room.� He looked nervously around before
taking the only seat left next to Emerald.�
Sesshomaru could feel the nervousness coming off his brother and
smirked.� Inuyasha had never felt the
pull of a mate before and he was nervous about how to go about it.� They had heard most of the conversation
between the two women and knew that Inuyasha would have to be careful.� The girl had been hurt before, but then again
so had Inuyasha, many times because he was hanyou.
Inuyasha did get the confirmation he desired while they
listened though.� Emerald also felt the
pull and knew what it meant.� Sesshomaru
kissed Kagome�s forehead and smiled, at least they (Sesshomaru and Kagome) were
there to help them both along and push them in the right direction.� He turned his attention back to his brother
and their guest and found they were already talking quietly.� Maybe they wouldn�t need help after all.
�I�ve had the guest room set up for you Emerald.� That is if you wish to stay.� Kagome and I are going to retire,
it�s been a long night.� Inuyasha will
show you to your room when you are ready,� Sesshomaru said standing up with
Kagome in his arms.
�Goodnight you two.�
I�ll see you in the morning Emerald,� Kagome said smiling and winking as
they left the room.
Emerald blushed, again as the two left the room.
XXXXXX
She looked so beautiful when she blushed,
Inuyasha was completely in awe of her beauty.�
She tried to look the other way, but Inuyasha gently grabbed her chin
and turned her to face him.
�You look so beautiful when you blush.�
Her cheeks darkened even more and the blush spread at the
compliment.� Inuyasha wondered how far
the blush went.� When he walked into the
room he had been really nervous, especially after eavesdropping on the
conversation.� After he sat next to her
though he could feel the nervousness and tension slowly fade.� He started to talk to her and it felt so
right, it gave him a boost in his confidence.�
When she had smiled at him his heart almost stopped.� Her smile was so radiant. �As they talked he slowly moved his hand to
hers and was pleasantly surprised when she didn�t pull away from him but gave
his hand a gentle squeeze before intertwining their fingers. �
They continued to talk well into the night.� They felt so comfortable talking to each
other that it was like they had known each other for a long time.� Inuyasha tried to keep the topics bright so
as not to bring up bad memories for either of them.� After about an hour Inuyasha had led her into
the kitchen to get beer and popcorn so they could watch a movie.� She smiled and accepted the beer downing the
whole thing before the popcorn was even ready.�
Inuyasha handed her another.
�So is Kagome really your sister?� he asked.
�No, we�re just really close so we call each other sister,�
Emerald said happily, �I wanted to ask you what your kit�s name is.� He is so cute.�
�His name is Shippo, I adopted him
after his parents died.� His parents were
my best friends.� Not many people are
willing to be friends with a hanyou,� he said looking sadly down as he poured
the popcorn into a bowl.
�I think it is just appaling that even in this day and age
people still do not accept hanyous.� I don�t
see what the problem is.� Hanyous are not
much different that anyone else,� she said as a
single tear streamed down her face.
�Hey, don�t cry. �It�s
no big deal.� I have a few friends and I have
the respect of many of the elite youkai that run the major companies.� Even though I am a hanyou I am stronger than
every full blood demon I have come across, with the exception of Sesshomaru and
most of the elite that is.�
�Really?�
Wow.�
�My dad was a very powerful inu youkai lord,
he was so powerful he was almost a god.� That
is why I have so much strength despite being a hanyou,� Inuyasha said pulling
her into a hug and wiping the tear from her face.
�I knew I sensed a great amount of power coming off you,� she
said hugging him back.
Inuyasha felt his heart swell with happiness.� She didn�t care that he was only hanyou.� He smiled and nuzzled her neck taking a deep
breath of her scent.� Never had he felt
this way.� After a few minutes they let
go of each other and grabbed the drinks and popcorn heading back to the living
room.� They both sat back down on the
couch and started the movie.� Emerald snuggled
up to him as they watched the movie.� She
felt the warmth of happiness and safety surround
her.� This all seemed so perfect.
XXXXXX
Upstairs Kagome sat on Sesshomaru�s bed talking to him as
reorganized his closet.
�I think they will do ok.�
They both deserve happiness,� Kagome said.
�Yes, Inuyasha has been hurt so many times.� Finally he found someone that will make him
happy,� Sesshomaru replied moving some more clothes.
�Is it because he�s hanyou that he has been hurt?�
�Yes, and the ones that claimed it didn�t matter either
turned on him later on or they only were after his money.�
�Kikyo was one that just after his money wasn�t she?� Kagome
asked feeling a stab of sadness for the hanyou.
�Yes, I usually keep an eye on the people that he dates to
see if they are gold diggers.� The spy
watching Kikyo found out that she cheated on him many times.� He was so hurt he didn�t want to believe
it.� I felt bad when I had to tell him, I
just wanted him to find happiness, but Kikyo wasn�t exactly nice to him either,�
Sesshomaru replied quietly.
�Well, you told him for his own good, I know you didn�t want
to hurt him.�
After Sesshomaru had cleared a side of the closet for Kagome�s
clothes he went to the dresser to clear some drawers for her.� He continued to talk to Kagome as he worked,
deciding that they would move her clothes tomorrow.� They discussed the plans for the wedding and
he was surprised to find that Kagome wanted a fairly small wedding to be held
in the garden out back.� It sounded nice
and they would both invite friends.� At the
same time he was planning how to make the wedding as perfect as she
deserved.� When he finally finished with
the dresser he went to the bed and sat down next to Kagome pulling her towards
him.
