The battle was over, but instead of tending to wounds, all eyes were set on the miko and taiyoukai.

Grumbling about “taking care of another human”, Jaken returned with a quiet, frowning Rin.

Sango and Miroku shared a looked before the houshi approached the still growling hanyou.

“Inuyasha, propose a compromise. Maybe we can travel together?”

“No. If this bastard wants Kagome, he’ll have to kill me first.”

Seeing being separated from the group as beneficial, ‘Kagome’ offered no protest, even when the kit jumped onto ‘her’ shoulder.

‘Sesshoumaru’, however, had other ideas and proclaimed “No!” a little too urgently.

Much to Sesshoumaru’s chagrin, the fox child nuzzled his neck while Kagome continued.

“We will travel together for the Shikon. It is clear you need this Sesshoumaru's help more than originally perceived.”

"Keh, well fu..."

“You can scout ahead at night, unafraid,” Sesshoumaru planned, gesturing towards Inuyasha’s group.

Inuyasha's ears dropped. First he protected ‘Kagome’, now ‘Sesshoumaru’ was bargaining? At least this way Kagome would stay. “I swear, if you get on my nerves...”

"If this Sesshoumaru desired to affect your nerves, he would severe them."

‘Kagome’ frowned, “Th… I do not have a say?”

Both ‘brothers’ answered simultaneously, “No.”

“Kagome-sama, may I have a word?”

Sesshoumaru looked behind ‘her’ shoulder towards the monk and nodded.

Miroku took a seat next to his quiet friend, and much to Sesshoumaru’s appreciation, sat in silence for several moments. It seemed everyone the miko knew either talked too much or took far too many liberties with her person.

“You seem tense, Kagome-sama,” he started after a while. “Though I cannot fully understand what you are going through, I hope you can trust in me to confide in.”

Sesshoumaru considered his soothing voice, trusting presence and honest nature… then instantly wondered what his flaw was.

As the monk’s hand rested on ‘her’ shoulder, Sesshoumaru sighed. Apparently, the miko allowed anyone to touch her, even grown men. The physical contact was reprehensible, but if it was what he had to do, he would.

“You have been uncharacteristically quiet, Kagome-sama,” Miroku continued. “I can only imagine what occurred with poor Rin-chan brought up terrible memories for you.”

Sesshoumaru was only curious about his statement a moment before fingers trailed past 'her' shoulder blades. Apparently, this is how humans comfort each other; all the more reason to be youkai, in his opinion.

“We are all here. You never have to fight alone.”

The comradery rang clear in Miroku’s words, capable of ensuring almost anyone. He was wise, formidable, and apparently not a total loss.

The miko-cloaked taiyoukai, however, was just glad the monk’s fingers left ‘her’ back, until…

‘Kagome’s’ eyes shot wide open, 'her' breath completely stopped, and every muscle screamed to move, even though ‘she’ was frozen in shock.

Apparently, the Great Western Lord was having his ass fondled by a human male…

Thankfully the taijiya’s weapon knocked him out, because judging by the look in ‘her’ eyes, Miroku was sure ‘Kagome’ was going to kill him.
