The next morning found the brothers and Helaku standing in the throne room, waiting for the dignitaries. Akiko sauntered in wearing a short black skirt and neon green tank top. She had a spiky belt loosely around her hips and a black, glittering bow with a band that went around her waist. She had black tights that had vertical stripes that alternated between thin and thick black lace and purposeful tears on her thigh, knees and calves. Platform combat boots with matching spikes were on her feet and her fingernails were painted matte black. Her many rings glittered on her fingers. She grinned at her father’s disapproval, her Uncle’s confusion and Helaku’s encouraging thumbs up.
She pulled her hair up into a ponytail high on her head so her long hair dangled precariously down her back, swaying much easier as she turned around to stare at the doors at the end of the rug, standing next to Helaku. “Princess.”
“Hey Daddy Helaku,” She grinned to him, not shrinking away from his exhausted gaze. He smiled back to her at least and she squeezed his arm reassuringly. He patted her hand on his arm softly and her smile faltered just a little at the weak attempt to seem okay. She peeked around him and looked at her father who just shook his head at her, not wanting to answer any questions. She held Helaku’s arm tighter making him clear his throat as if trying to control his emotions.
The dignitaries finally arrived, looking to the three professionals before blushing at Akiko’s pop rock appearance. She let go of Helaku’s arm glaring to them, “Gentlemen, Akiko is going to get us quickly to your home to take care of this issue. Normally we’d fly but I have urgently pressing matters and would like to take care of this before that very quickly.”
They didn’t know what that meant but watched as Sesshomaru told Akiko where to take them before she ripped a portal into thin air. They stared in astonishment before being ushered through by the three men. Sesshomaru turned as he stepped through last, “I will call you when we’re ready to come back. Thank you, Akiko.”
She nodded solemnly, shutting the portal behind him. She took a seat on the throne, rearranging the pillows to wait for their return.
It was a small town, thankfully. One of those where the epicenter is on one strip of road that goes several blocks. Houses with small yards surrounded the area and just past those large fields were around it. Helaku was at ease here, it felt like home even though he knew he wasn’t even remotely in the same country as his home. The Japanese countryside was obvious compared to the American countryside. He held Sesshomaru’s hand, glad the emperor did not pull away from him.
They walked around, meeting with several starstruck locals at the Emperor’s arrival. It was just past noon when the pest to showed up, running past before backtracking and stopping to look at InuYasha. The hanyou growled as Kouga came into focus. They had been correct.
InuYasha looked ready to tackle him but the demon prince was fast to run up to him, wrapping his arms around him like a child waking from a nightmare. His Cerulean eyes were terrified and both feudal era demons immediately dropped their defenses, “Where the fuck am I, Mutt?”
Kouga’s voice was hoarse, closing his eyes at the sound of a train in the distance. His body shook, his grip tightening, “Kouga, calm down. You’re okay.”
InuYasha looked at Sesshomaru who shrugged. Helaku approached quietly, looking to the prince, taking his arm gently, “Hey, you okay? Need water?”
Kouga jumped at the touch, moving away quickly from both InuYasha and Helaku. He sniffed, looking to finally notice Sesshomaru there too. He looked at the stranger confused, trying to decipher why Sesshomaru’s scent was so heavy on the ginger. Helaku smiled comfortingly despite how he felt and then looked around, jogging to the gas station a block down. Sesshomaru watched him carefully.
InuYasha motioned Kouga back to him, terrified himself at how in bad of shape Kouga looked. He’d expected the overly confident wolf prince, not a man completely torn apart by fear, “What is this?”
“This is the future. You’re safe. I’m probably the last person you’d expect to hear that from, but it’s true,” InuYasha coaxed him back to him, eying the locals. He knew it couldn’t be comfortable having so many people experience your terror like this.
Helaku came back with two water bottles and some food. He handed it to InuYasha who escorted Kouga to the curb, sitting him down and helping him eat and drink. Sesshomaru looked at the dignitaries, “Well, honestly that was solved pretty quickly. We’ll take him with us. Is there anything else we can assist with while here?”
They shook their heads no and he looked to InuYasha before calling Akiko to help them. He grabbed Helaku’s hand and looked as the portal opened back up for them to go home. Kouga looked at them, his tremors coming back at the unknown. He’d had quite the shock when he woke up in the woods a few weeks ago. Everything had been dark and peaceful for so long, he could hear the songs of his pack and his ancestors calling to him. He had not wanted for anything, wrapped in the nostalgic feeling of a never-ending feast with his kin. Then his eyes snapped open, his lungs screaming as anxious, panicked gasps rocked his body.
He jumped to his feet as if to take off, InuYasha being yanked up with him. InuYasha grabbed his arm, trying to ground him. It was a futile attempt, the demon prince threw him over his shoulder and ran back down the road, disappearing into the woods, “InuYasha!”
He heard his brother yell after him and as soon as he was able to process he pounded on Kouga’s back, “Hey, wolf! Put me down! Stop!”
Kouga came to a screeching halt once in the cover of the woods. He looked at InuYasha, putting him down, “Where are we? What is this hell?”
“Shh, hey, calm down. It’s a lot, right? This is the future of the demons, I reacted similarly when I awoke but I mean, it’s scary, right? Everything’s so different, you’re surrounded by things you don’t understand. My only leg up was Kagome had taken me to her world before,” He reached for Kouga’s shoulder, gently squeezing it.
“The future?” Kouga trembled, running his hands feverishly through his hair.
“Hey, hey, look at me. Come on, we need to go back to Sesshomaru. He’s gonna come in here and he’s not gonna be very nice if he has to get himself dirty. He’s kinda a priss,” InuYasha tried to joke. Kouga eyed him warily before letting InuYasha grab his wrist and lead him slowly back towards the town.
Sesshomaru was standing at the edge of the woods, panic in his eyes when they emerged. He looked at InuYasha, relief washing over him as he led Kouga over. InuYasha nodded to Sesshomaru and they escorted Kouga through the portal home, “Kouga, I am the ruler of all demons. You’ll have to show at least a little respect so you don’t get in trouble. I’ll excuse most of your behavior until you settle in.”
Kouga swallowed, nodding apprehensively to Sesshomaru. Akiko stared at him, gaze heavy with confusion as she closed the portal. InuYasha sighed, “Hey, Sess, I’m gonna take him to that doctor person Zander sees. I’ll take care of’im.”
“Great idea. Listen, come see me once he’s settled in. I’m going to send Shikamaru down to the doctor’s office to introduce himself,” Sesshomaru let InuYasha leave first. He sighed as he looked to Helaku.
“Another piece of your past. This is the oddest thing I’ve ever heard of happening,” Helaku frowned. He’d been sent home as soon as InuYasha had been nabbed and he had paced the throne room until his mate’s return. He pulled Sesshomaru very softly to his side and kissed him softly, showing he’d been worried.
“You and me both, Foxx. Come with me, I have a surprise for you,” Helaku quirked an eyebrow, letting Sesshomaru lead him up to their bedroom. Two servants stood outside the doors and swung them open for them. Sesshomaru motioned around the room to a handful of packed up suitcases. Helaku’s confusion deepened, moving to stand in front of Sesshomaru, cupping his face to try and read his mind on what was happening.
“Are you kicking me out because I can’t conceive?” Helaku’s voice was half joking, the way he swallowed Sesshomaru knew it was at least part of a legitimate concern.
“No, no! Vacation. Me and you are going on vacation and I invited your family,” Sesshomaru almost fell backwards as he was hugged tightly. Helaku hiccupped, tears of joy coming down his face. He needed to see his mama, “Just me and you for the first week and then your family will come next week.”
“First week? How long are we staying?” Helaku’s arms wrapped around his shoulders, staring at him in wonder.
“As long as it takes for you to feel better,” Sesshomaru gave him a smile, gently pushing his hair back behind his ears before kissing him.
“Oh, Sesshomaru!” He held him so their foreheads stayed touching, placing soft, quick kisses to his lips every few seconds, “I love you, I love you, I love you.”
Sesshomaru chuckled between smooches, “I love you too, little fox. I only hope this helps. We’ll be okay, right?”
He opened the doors and motioned the staff in to get their bags, thanking each of them as their luggage was taken down to the front to be loaded into a vehicle. He had a few bags left so Helaku could pack anything he’d want that Sesshomaru hadn’t thought to have his staff pack. He also packed his own few personal items, which included a laptop so he could help with some responsibilities from the vacation home.
Down in the infirmary, InuYasha sat with a petrified Kouga. The doctor had removed his pelts and he now sat in a flimsy gown. He had called for Zander shortly after arriving and he sighed with relief when his pregnant lover waddled in. He was 2 months into a 4 month pregnancy and InuYasha’s face lit up as he saw the curve of his belly, “Yasha? I brought what you asked for.”
Zander held up some clothes and InuYasha gratefully took them, kissing Zander. Kouga’s brow furrowed as he looked at them, “Uh, Kouga, this is the mother to my pup, Zander.”
Kouga looked at the way InuYasha’s hand rested gently on Zander’s stomach. Kouga gave a soft smile, waving briefly. Zander’s big green eyes twisted into concern and he gave a big, comforting smile, “Welcome to the palace! If you need anything you can call for me. In fact, Yasha, why don’t we let him sleep in the room we turned into the nursery in your room until he’s comfortable?”
“Our room, and that’s probably best actually,” InuYasha stated quietly. His lover hadn’t given up his room in the servants quarters yet, but he slept in Inu’s room every night since the wonderful news.
“It’s designed for our baby, so it’s not really set up for an adult but we’ll have a bed put in there for you. It’ll be a nice, warm place to stay close to InuYasha. That way if you get scared, you have a friend,” Zander gently touched Kouga’s bicep, giving it a gentle squeeze. Kouga seemed thankful, Zander just had that effect on people. InuYasha had a brief moment of jealousy before he reminded himself Zander loved him most.
“Hey buddy, you gonna be good if I go see my brother real quick? Zander will sit with you,” InuYasha walked towards the door, making sure to get a nod from Kouga before he stepped out to go see what his brother wanted. Zander sat next to him and smiled, greeting the doctor as he came back. He pulled a needle out and Kouga bristled, Zander gently patted his arm, giving a soft smile.
He held the cat’s hand, letting him comfort him through the pokes and prods as he was looked over. Zander even helped him get dressed at the end. They got pants on the poor man, cutting a hole for his tail. Then Shika came in, crop top, leggings and all. Kouga just stared at him, blinking in confusion.
“Hello, I understand you are the wolf prince Kouga. I am Prince Shikamaru Taisho, oldest son of Sesshomaru. I am very pleased to make your acquaintance,” Shika held his hand out. Kouga looked to Zander before shaking his hand like maybe this was a joke.
“Uh, nice to meet you too,” Kouga swallowed thickly, looking him over.
“My dad told me to come introduce myself as he’s going to be out for a little bit. If you need anything , feel free to let me know. I’ll be handling responsibilities while he’s out,” Shika waved to him and Zander before turning to make his leave.
“That wasn’t… Sesshomaru?” Kouga pointed, jumping a little as InuYasha came back.
“No, one of his kids. The only one that is like a replica of him. His grandsons look like him too,” Zander giggled and helped him get his shirt on. Kouga moved awkwardly in the clothing.
“It takes a minute to get used to it, wait until they make you wear shoes,” InuYasha made a face that made Kouga chuckle. He led Kouga out of the infirmary, Zander on his arm.
He showed Kouga around, Zander grabbing the prince gently by the arm any time he looked uncomfortable. He’d give a soft smile and InuYasha would pause, reading his expression to make sure he wasn’t about to flee. In their room, Zander led Kouga to the little nursery they had set up, “I am really sorry. I don’t think Sesshomaru had prepared for more than InuYasha so we didn’t get the biggest room. We got the standard open living and bedroom space with an office space and bathroom. Maybe we can talk Akiko into changing the room if you want to stay with us.”
Kouga looked around the room. It was set up in a camping theme with navy walls like a night sky and golden stars that were sparsely painted around the middle of the wall becoming increasingly thicker the closer to the ceiling they got. A crib was set up with stuffed woodland animals on blankets with golden stars embroidered into it. There was a teepee with some toys and a soft mat in the corner, a navy rocker across from the crib with a blanket folded neatly over the back and a bookshelf next to it packed with childrens books. A crescent moon shaped lamp sat on top of the bookshelf and Zander turned it on to light up the room better. He looked at the campfire shaped rug under his feet and Zander smiled sheepishly.
“This is… uh, a nice room,” Kouga smiled a little, not sure what to think of it all.
“We’ll move the rocker and put a bed in for you. If you still want to stay with us when the baby comes, well, you can share or we’ll figure it out,” Zander rubbed his stomach adoringly. He had warmed up dramatically to the idea of being a mother. Especially after InuYasha began practically worshipping him.
InuYasha stepped into the room and looked around with a soft smile. He’d let Zander design the whole thing and he adored it as much as he adored his kitten. He held him against him from behind and kissed between his ears, a big smile crossing his face, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen your smile so big, mutt.”
Inu’s eyes drifted to him and he laughed, Zander about to start a fight over the name. He was protective of his hanyou and any reference to his mixed blood was enough to set him off. His tail stopped twitching in irritation when he saw it had become a term of endearment between friends, “I’ve never had a family like this before.”
Kouga smiled, his arms around himself. Inu’s ears folded back as he watched him, trying to think of a way to make him comfortable, “Hey, I got an idea. Why don’t you come down to the garden with me? It’s our favorite place to sit in peace. Zan, you want to come?”
“I have to get back to work. I’ll get the bed brought in and get it all arranged,” Zander stood on his tiptoes, InuYasha lowering his head to kiss him before he sashayed away. InuYasha watched him until he was out of the room completely. He looked to Kouga and smiled, motioning him to follow him.
“It’s so, different,” Kouga looked wide-eyed at everything. He seemed to close in further on himself the more they walked the halls. InuYasha watched him closely, trying to think of things to say but he wasn’t really great at comforting people, “Yeah. It’s crazy, huh? How everyone came?”
“Is… is everyone gone?” Kouga looked to Inu, a sad, faraway look in his eyes.
“Well, I mean, I’m here. Sesshomaru’s here. Kagome’s maybe alive just with the humans,” InuYasha shrugged, making himself sad. They arrived in the garden and Inu led Kouga to his favorite bench, removing his suit jacket to sit in his slacks and dark red button-up shirt. He basked in the sunlight a moment, a small luxury he enjoyed any time he could get it.
“Ginta? Hakkaku?” Kouga whined the slightest bit.
“I’m sorry. If they are alive, I’ve not see them,” InuYasha’s ears shot back in concern. He looked around awkwardly before steadying himself and trying to think what any of his nephews would do. They had done an excellent job taking care of him.
“The whole pack then. Just gone?” Tears welled up in his eyes. InuYasha quickly slid an arm around him, rubbing his bicep comfortingly. Shika’d done this once when he was upset, it’d felt reassuring. He only hoped it felt the same when he did it.
“I mean, maybe it’s still there, just not the pack members you remember,” InuYasha spoke softly as he had in the woods. Kouga looked at him in utter distress and he pulled him to his chest without even thinking, “No one here is going to judge you for being upset. You gotta let it out? Just let it out.”
Kouga tensed, InuYasha preparing if he lashed out. He didn’t, his hands gripped InuYasha’s shirt so tight his knuckles turned white. His shoulders trembled as he tried to hold himself together, anger bubbling up in his chest before utter defeat took over and silent tears rolled down his cheeks, landing on InuYasha’s lap and staining his shirt. They didn’t speak, no sounds came from either of them as InuYasha just rubbed his back.
“I don’t want to be here. I want to rest again,” Kouga whimpered finally, the sound pressed against the skin of InuYasha’s chest where his shirt was open.
“Kouga,” He didn’t know what to say. It’s not that he hadn’t thought that way when sitting in the hotel at first. He’d rather be pinned back on the tree where life just hummed around him without him knowing. He’d rather of been dead, joining his friends in the heavens. Instead, someone had decided to wake him up and use him as a weapon against his will. He knew to an extent how Kouga felt. He squeezed him tightly, adjusting their positions to be more comfortable on the bench.
“Can’t you do that for me, InuYasha? Use that sword or those claws of yours and just end it,” Kouga pulled away from him, looking to him with seriousness.
“No. I won’t do that. I don’t know why you were brought back. I don’t know why I was brought back. We’re not taking the easy way out. Are you gonna let a half demon out do you, flea brains?” InuYasha shifted his voice to a challenge.
Kouga’s shoulders prickled, the stubborn part him wanting to argue. He would never be outdone by the likes of InuYasha. The clever part of his brain knew exactly what InuYasha had just done and he grinned, his eyes still watering. He wiped his tears with the back of his hand, “As if, Mutt.”
“I’m looking forward to this challenge with you,” InuYasha smirked, “Me vs. You. Who’s gonna live life to the fullest? Certainly not a boring, mangy wolf prince.”
“Look who’s talking, moron. Everyone knows wolves came before dogs. We’re far more superior, and obviously I’m going to last the longest here,” Kouga stuck his nose in the air, hands still balled in his shirt as if it was a life preserver.
“Feh, whatever asshole,” InuYasha rolled his eyes, gently putting his hands over Kouga’s. They looked to each other, a silent agreement that everything was going to be just fine. They settled onto the bench, casually tossing insults to each other as they enjoyed the afternoon sun.
Zander found them hours later, coming to enjoy what little free time he had with his lover. He stared at them, listening to the vulgar things they called each other but smiling at the way neither moved any further away from the other than was necessary. He hustled over, purring as he pushed himself onto InuYasha’s lap, a big grin on his face.
Kouga seemed suddenly conscious of his hands as Zander got comfortable, finally letting go of his hold on InuYasha. Zander looked to him in confusion, “You can still touch him. I’m not jealous! I know he loves me.”
InuYasha held him, arms wrapping dutifully around him and kissing his kitten. His hands rubbed his belly almost like a massage and Zander reached, pulling Kouga’s hand back to Inu’s sleeve to hold on rather than in the middle of his shirt. Kouga blushed, his hand closing and opening around the fabric before he brought his hands to his lap, embarrassed on how he was behaving.
“I think I’d like to lay down,” Kouga looked at the sky, the sun had gone down some and now threatened to disappear behind the palace.
“I ruined it, huh? I’m sorry. I just wanted to spend a couple minutes with you guys,” Zander pouted and InuYasha started to speak but was abruptly cut off.
“No! Not at all, I’m just honestly tired. I’ve been sitting here talking to turd breath for so long it’s all kinda catching up is all. You didn’t ruin anything,” He smiled but looked at the hand that had been holding InuYasha for at least the last hour. He was the only lifeline to normality he had, he hadn’t realized he’d been gripping onto him so tight.
“Hey! I brushed this morning!” InuYasha scowled playfully. Kouga quirked an eyebrow, not understanding but he smiled. He stood up, awkwardly moving his limbs in the clothes he had on and looked around the garden.
“C’mon, we’ll get you back up to the bedroom,” Zander shimmied off of Inu’s lap and took his hand, leading him back inside.
“Hey, Zan!” InuYasha huffed as he got up, he hadn’t even waited for him.
“Hurry up Yasha! You can’t keep a prince waiting,” Zander winked to Kouga and giggled softly. Kouga smirked and looked over his shoulder to InuYasha who now had an honest scowl on his face as he hustled to his lover’s side, sliding his suit jacket back on.
“Don’t be thinking you can take Zander away like you wanted Kagome. I’ll fight you,” InuYasha warned.
“I don’t have any desire to take this sweet soul from you, and that’s the truth. Not even going to joke about it,” Kouga made eye contact, all playfulness out of his system.
“Aw, you couldn’t even make him jealous for just a little bit?” Zander teased, giggling more as he opened the door, letting Kouga in first. Inu’s arm shot out before he could insist he walk in next and he looked down to him, making his lover enter into the door first instead.
“Well I could, but that wouldn’t be a very good friend of me,” Kouga laughed. InuYasha watched him, noticing the halls weren’t making him feel small this time around. He smiled softly, watching Zander and Kouga walk in front of him. Zander snuck his arm into the crook of Kouga’s elbow as he led, leaning in to snicker as he made little jokes to try and get a rise out of his hanyou. Kouga barely played along, not wanting to honestly insult him after their time outside.
All joking aside, he’d barely been jealous to start with. It was a jerk reaction to feel like he’d fight him, all those fights over Kagome’s hand as a mate had bubbled back into his brain and he had prepared himself. When he really thought about it, he enjoyed seeing them get along. He felt a strong sense to protect them both and he was sure once Kouga was back up to snuff he’d probably fight the stubborn asshole. A smile tugged at his lips as Zander giggled more, leaning towards Kouga who was laughing with him.
He felt a twinge of love for both men and he mulled things over in his mind as he followed up the stairs. Keeping a careful eye on the way people stared at Zander and Kouga. He didn’t want them to get the wrong impression after all. His little lover with his tail flicking happily behind him, small purrs in his throat as he talked excitedly about the things he and Inu would take Kouga to do. Even beaming as he talked about their baby as they neared the room, pulling Kouga’s hand to his belly when they stopped in front of the door.
“Do you feel it? It’s barely there but our little one likes to move around this time of day,” Zander grinned up at Kouga. Kouga was awkward a moment, glancing to InuYasha who shrugged at him with a lazy smile. He relaxed and focused on his fingertips before smiling and nodding.
“Did his bed come yet, Zan?” InuYasha rushed to open the door for them both. Zander nodded excitedly, grabbing Kouga’s hand once more and dragging him back to the nursery. A twin sized futon was set up in the room with blankets and pillows. Kouga rubbed the back of his neck, grateful but not sure how he liked the piece of furniture.
“Try it out!” Zander practically vibrated with excitement as he motioned Kouga to sit on the bed. He sat, feeling the softness under his body and then tested laying down. It was comfortable but he was much more used to a pile of pelts on the ground.
“You’ll get used to it,” InuYasha assured him, hands in his pockets as he leant against the doorframe.
“This is, this is really too much I think,” Kouga said softly, looking at the two.
“Nonsense! Never! Any guest of ours deserves this and more,” Zander sat by him.
“Heh, if you insist. I just hope I can repay this debt to you both,” Kouga took his ponytail out, his long hair falling over his shoulders. He played with the hair tie with his fingers, unable to look at either of them.
“No debt, Kouga. Just a flea-bitten mutt making sure his friend is safe and comfortable. We’ll let you take a nap. If you need anything, please let us know. I’ll hang around just in case,” InuYasha pointed to their bed in the main room. Kouga nodded and the two left him alone to try and get used to his living quarters.
“He’s so nice, I don’t know why you told me you hated him so much,” Zander climbed onto their bed, sitting on his knees and looking to Inu. InuYasha approached the edge of the bed pulling him against his chest.
“He wasn’t always that way. He’s scared, I just hope he stays this way when he’s not scared anymore. Don’t go thinking you’re gonna leave me for him though, I won’t allow it,” InuYasha teased.
“Oh never! If anything, I should be scared he’s going to take you from me!” Zander giggled, reaching up and pulling Inu’s head down to steal kisses. InuYasha did not resist, kissing his lover to his heart’s content.
“That mangy wolf doesn’t want me, Zan, you have nothing to worry about,” InuYasha let Zander easily slide his suit jacket off and he watched those hungry little eyes look him over in his button-up, “Hey now, he’s right there. I’m not doing that with him in the next room like this.”
“Oh poops! I didn’t think about that, by the gods, when’s the next time you’re going to touch me then?” Zander pouted. He’d been absolutely spoiled since their first time, his body craving InuYasha since the moment it realized how good it felt. Now he’d have to quit him cold turkey.
InuYasha laughed, kissing his nose, “You’re gonna be fine if we can’t rut for just a little bit.”
“I’m going to whither like a potted plant that hasn’t been watered,” Zander deflated backwards onto the mattress.
“Kitten, you’re being dramatic,” InuYasha laid next to him on the bed.
“Maybe we can just invite him? Then it’s not weird. He looked into you,” Zander prodded InuYasha in the chest playfully. InuYasha chuckled, not exactly opposed to sharing his bed with one more. He raised his eyebrows to Zander whose face turned bright red.
“It’s not a terrible idea, but maybe not now,” InuYasha moved and at Zander’s questioning glance he moved, tickling him. Zander squealed loudly, laughing as he pushed at InuYasha to get away. Tears streamed down his face, and he calmed as InuYasha kissed his cheeks and then moved off the bed, leaning down to kiss his stomach.
They heard a shuffle and both looked over at Kouga, standing in the doorway of the nursery, “I uh, I heard a screech.”
InuYasha laughed as he looked down at Zander, “Well, kitten is a screech-er.”
Zander’s face burned red as he looked at Kouga, “Sorry Kouga!”
Kouga chuckled a little and went to move back into the room, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt.”
Zander looked at InuYasha moving away from him towards the wardrobe. He sat up and grinned mischievously, “Kouga?”
The wolf prince turned and furrowed his brow as he saw Zander’s hand reaching for him. He walked over cautiously, looking down at the cat on the bed. Inu was watching them closely from the wardrobe, unbuttoning his shirt, “um, yeah?”
“You want to try our bed out instead?” That coy little look stayed on his face. Kouga’s face turned pink as he looked at InuYasha as if saying ‘I swear I’m not stealing your man.’
“You’re fine Kouga. Don’t let him bully you into something you’re uncomfortable with,” Inu slid his shirt off, hanging it up. InuYasha pulled his slacks off next, changing into lounge pants and an undershirt. Kouga licked his lips thoughtfully, watching Inu before looking at Zander.
“And what are your intentions my feline friend?”
“To take a nap!” Zander reached for him again, pulling on his hand.
“I suppose I could do just a nap,” Kouga slowly lowered himself onto the bed. He wasn’t sure he trusted InuYasha to be fine with this, but Zander was quick to move into the middle of the bed and curl up.
“You done working for the day then, kitten?” InuYasha crawled in on the other side of Zander, wrapping him up in his arms. Zander purred, nuzzling his head against his chest. InuYasha took that as a yes and glanced to Kouga, who looked horribly uncomfortable. He reached past Zander, pulling Kouga’s wrist to rest his hand on Zander’s hip. When Kouga’s eyes met his, he nodded his consent and Kouga slowly moved closer. InuYasha’s arm stretched a little bit further to rest his own hand on Kouga’s side.
It was awkward at first, Kouga not sure how he felt. On one hand, he was laying in bed with a stranger he’d met hours ago and his rival. On the other hand, InuYasha was doing his best to help him cope and having him so close put him at ease. He relaxed after a few minutes, falling asleep with Zander sandwiched between them. He was in bliss, purring in content as his tail joined Inu’s arm around Kouga, “We’ll take good care of you, Wolf Prince.”
