Chapter 16: Let It Go

A/N: Rin discovers that Sesshomaru intends to kill Kouga for what he has done to her. She agrees that Kouga should be punished for his actions but will not stand for Sesshomaru taking his life. Will Rin be able to convince her mate that Kouga should be allowed to live?
Sesshomaru stormed through the large white stone palace looking like he was on a quest. He barged into the royal study to find his younger brother Inuyasha looking over some old family documents. Inuyasha looked up from the ancient parchments that were laid out on the table before him to see his brother looking rather livid. �You okay Sesshomaru? Not that I really care or anything it�s just that you look like you�re about ready to rip someone�s head right off.�
�Yes little brother, you�re quite observant. I have recently discovered that Kouga is the one to blame for attacking my mate and causing her to miscarry our unborn pup.�
�Kouga huh? So what are you going to do?�
�What am I going to do? I�m going to kill that dishonorable bastard, that�s what I�m going to do!� Inuyasha arched an eyebrow at his older brother curiously.
�Does Rin know that you�re planning on murdering Kouga?�
�No, Rin has no idea that I am even aware that it was Kouga who attacked her.�
�Do you really think it�s a good idea to go and do something like this without consulting your mate�s opinion first?�
�Nonsense! I do this for Rin! Surely she will understand that Kouga simply had to pay for his crimes with his life.� Inuyasha shook his head.
�I don�t know Sesshomaru, women are very peculiar creatures. Especially human women, so things might not turn out the way you intend on them turning out.�
�I�ve heard enough of this, I�m going to avenge my unborn pup and restore my mate�s sense of honor!� Inuyasha sighed heavily as he watched his older brother angrily storm out of the study. A little while later his keen ears perked up to the light knock on the study door. Rin immediately entered the dimly lit room and slowly walked over to join Inuyasha at the large round cherry wood table.
�Inuyasha?�
�Yes Rin, what can I do for you?�
�Have you seen Sesshomaru? I can�t find him anywhere.� Sesshomaru�s venomous words rang in Inuyasha�s ears as he debated on whether or not he should tell Rin where his brother had gone. Finally his good heart won the battle and he decided that Rin had every right to know where her mate was.
�Uh yes, Sesshomaru has gone to pay Kouga a visit.� He watched as Rin�s chocolate brown eyes grew wide with fear.
�Oh Kami, he knows that it was Kouga who attacked me? How does he know?�
�Well I think he overheard you talking about things with Kagome. So now he�s headed to Kouga�s territory to personally see to it that Kouga pays for his crimes with his life.�
�You mean Sesshomaru is going to kill him?�
�I�m pretty sure that�s what he intends to do.�
�Oh I have to stop him! Sesshomaru has to know that if he kills Kouga it will make him just as much of a monster as Kouga is.� Inuyasha watched as the raven haired young maiden bolted out the door of the study and headed towards the front door of the palace. He then quickly raced out the door to catch up to her.
�Rin wait, you can�t go out alone. I�ll go with you.�
�Thank you so much Inuyasha.� Inuyasha carefully scooped Rin up in his arms and quickly headed in the direction of Kouga�s lands.
�Trust me, we�ll make better time this way.� Rin nodded and rested her head against Inuyasha�s broad chest to keep the harsh wind out of her face. Inuyasha practically flew through the forest that shared his name desperately trying to catch up to his bloodthirsty older brother. The hanyou eventually caught up to Sesshomaru with Rin still nestled safely in his arms. Sesshomaru had just reached the boundary of Kouga�s territory. He immediately strode towards Kouga�s mountainous fortress. Two of Kouga�s henchmen quickly stopped the inu youkai snarling menacingly at the intruder. Sesshomaru unleashed a feral sounding growl from deep within his chest and lunged at the two wolf demons. Rin squeezed her brown eyes shut as she heard the sickening sound of flesh being ripped to shreds.
A moment later she was brave enough to open her eyes again only to see her beloved Sesshomaru marching toward Kouga�s lair. She practically leapt out of Inuyasha�s arms and bolted after her murderous mate. Inuyasha ran after the impulsive raven haired maiden quickly snatching her back by the arm. �Are you crazy?�
�No, I have to stop him!�
�You�re going to get yourself killed! He just slaughtered those two wolf youkai like it was a piece of cake! Stay here with me where it�s safe!� Rin squirmed and managed to jerk out of the hanyou�s tight grasp. She quickly dashed after Sesshomaru who was now entering Kouga�s mountain palace. Inuyasha groaned annoyed that Rin just absolutely insisted on being right in harm�s way. �Damn crazy woman! Wait for me!� He ran inside the cavernous palace after Rin and his maniacal older brother. Inuyasha stopped abruptly when he saw the Sesshomaru was holding Kouga by his neck.
�I know that you are the bastard that raped my mate! You are also responsible for taking the life of my unborn pup that she carried on the day that you raped her! For that you shall pay with your life!� Kouga strained to get out of the strong inu youkai�s grasp but could not seem to get free. Sesshomaru began squeezing the life out of the powerful wolf youkai as if he were no match for him. Rin seemed frozen from the shock of what was transpiring before her very eyes. Then as if she suddenly rediscovered her mobility she threw herself at Sesshomaru�s feet.
�No Sesshomaru! Don�t do this!� Sesshomaru glared down at his mate with pools of amber that were blazing with fury. �Please Sesshomaru, I beg you, don�t take his life!�
�Rin, you would ask me to spare the life of the bastard that raped you and killed our pup?�
�Yes please Sesshomaru, don�t kill him. If you kill Kouga, then you shall be no better than he is. Please spare his life Sesshomaru, for my sake?� Sesshomaru glared back up at the quickly fading wolf demon and then back down to the angelic face of his beloved Rin. He sighed defeated and threw Kouga to the ground roughly. Rin stood up and threw her arms around her mate�s neck. �Oh thank you Sesshomaru! I love you!�
�I love you as well Rin.� Then the demon prince strode over to where Kouga lay sprawled out on the cool earth. He bent down and grabbed Kouga�s face harshly and jerked it upwards so that Kouga had to look him in the eyes. �And as for you wolf, you had better thank Kami that I have such a forgiving mate. It would be in your best interest to stay the hell away from her, understand?� Kouga grunted his response and Sesshomaru released his hold on him.
�So Sess, can we go home now?� Sesshomaru�s amber eyes turned to his little brother.
�Not quite yet, there is still something that I need to make quite clear to the wolf.� Inuyasha nodded and took Rin by the arm softly to lead her out of the palace. Rin glanced over her shoulder as she was being pulled out of the dimly lit cavernous den. She could barely make out her mate�s lean figure as he bent back over to speak privately to Kouga. Rin wished that Inuyasha would have wanted to stay and hear what Sesshomaru was saying to Kouga but she knew that he wouldn�t turn back around so that she could eavesdrop on her mate.
