"Ah-choo!"
Inuyasha turned his attention away from the teacher’s lecture and to Kagome when she gave a small sneeze. She sniffled a little before giving a small sigh and turning her attention back to her notebook. Inuyasha wanted to slap himself for thinking that even her sneezes were cute! Inuyasha glanced something out of the corner of his eye; Sango, who sat one desk in front of Kagome, was rapidly typing a message on the keypad of her bright pink keypad beneath her desk. Kagome looked slightly startled when she could feel her own cell phone gently vibrating in her skirt pocket. She sat her pink mechanical pencil down and discreetly pulled out her cell phone. Their teacher was such a hardass, she knew that any student caught with phones would get them confiscated.
"Ne, Kagome-Chan, are you catching a cold?"
Kagome just gave a small smile at Sango’s turned back before lowering her head to reply to her message.
"No, I just suddenly sneezed. Maybe it’s allergies?"
"Who knows? Hey, maybe someone is talking about you."
Kagome could tell Sango was smiling when she sent her reply to Kagome’s phone. Kagome stole a slight glance out of the corner of her eye and across the room at Inuyasha. When she realized he was staring right back at her, she quickly looked down.
"Well, I know it’s not Inuyasha…Ne, Sango, be honest…"
"I’ll try." Was Sango’s reply.
Sango could hear Kagome take a deep breath behind her. Kagome’s message followed shortly.
"Do you really think Inuyasha cares for me?"
Kagome glanced up slightly and saw Sango tense for a minute, as if wondering what she should reply back. Sango’s shoulders relaxed around the same time Kagome received her friend’s text.
"Yes. I know he does."
"But how can I be sure???"
"Sleep with him."
"WHAT?!" Kagome yelled.
Kagome froze, embarrassment written all over her face when she realized her outburst had been enough to stop the lesson. She quickly covered her hands with her mouth, her face turning about seven shades of red. All eyes were on her, including the confused Inuyasha’s, the startled Sango’s, and the pissed off sensei.
"Is there a problem, Miss Higurashi?"
"I…um…I just…I…"
"In the hallway, Higurashi."
Kagome stood up with a heavy sigh, ignoring the confused glances from her classmates as she headed into the hallway. She closed the door behind her, and leaned against the wall. Slowly, she put her hand to her mouth gently. Her face was still red, but it definitely wasn’t because of her outburst. It was because of Sango’s suggestion. Sleep with him. How could she have said something like that so casually? Kagome walked across the hallway and to the large window, opening it slightly. Her eyes roamed over the side of the campus that revealed the baseball team training, and other classes engaged in outdoor gym.
Sleep with him.
Yeah, right! It wasn’t as if she hadn’t tried! With a groan, she counted the times since her arrival that she and Inuyasha almost wound up in bed together. The first was after the bathtub incident, when Momoeiko pulled a katana on Inuyasha. That memory still brought a smile to Kagome’s lips. The next time after that, Inuyasha had walked in on her stepping out of the shower. In a heartbeat, Inuyasha had her against the white tiled wall, kissing her and feeling her up. But then he just stopped. He had a very distant look in his eye afterwards. The time after that had been in the nurse’s office. Kagome had obviously been overworking herself as Head Honcho and she’d fainted. When Kagome came to, she saw Inuyasha sitting in a chair next to the bed she was laying on. After getting her to down some water, he’d come threateningly close to going down…on her. If they hadn’t heard the nurse walk in, Kagome was almost positive she would have had her world rocked! Kagome groaned slightly as she rested her head down on folded arms. They’d been living together for a while now. It was just a little over a month ago when Inuyasha agreed to marry her, as long as they both survived this war.
In the past month, the four spies at Houryu had made incredible progress. Everyday, Saiyuri and Kirara sent Shippou wireless information, such as pictures, data, passwords, and security codes. Kagura was doing very well maintaining her position as Naraku’s ‘pet’ and she was almost positive that Naraku would soon locate Kikyou! The piece of valuable information had come from a conversation Ayame had had with Jakotsu—She’d let it slip to Ayame that she was getting ‘sick and tired’ of how Naraku treated his ‘guest’. Without a doubt, Ayame knew she was referring to Kikyou. So, atleast they knew Kikyou was in the building. It was just a matter of finding her, before Naraku’s treatment got worse. For Kikyou’s sake…and for Ryouta’s sake. Kagome’s gaze softened at the thought of her nephew. He’d quickly adjusted to living with her, Momoeiko, and Inuyasha. Of course, Kouga was a familiar factor in an unfamiliar place. Even still, Kagome enjoyed having Ryouta around, and Momoeiko always kept him safe while they were at school. Kikyou was so lucky to have him. The sad thought of if Kagome dying before she could have children of her own invaded her mind. Kagome closed her eyes, enjoying the soft wind on her skin. If she and Inuyasha really did survive this, and they did get married, the day would come where she would have his baby. Kagome knew the child would have dark hair and eyes, just like she and Inuyasha did. She allowed a soft smile to appear on her face…She could just see Inuyasha and their child playing outside everyday. They’d eat meals together, and Inuyasha would lay next to their child until he or she fell asleep. Then, Inuyasha would join her in bed. He’d make love to her for hours, and then afterwards, hold her close….
"Earth to Kagome…!"
Kagome almost flew out of that window when she felt a hand on her shoulder, and heard Inuyasha’s voice behind her. She turned around, glaring at him for nearly scaring her into jumping out of the window! She didn’t realize the bell had rang, and that students were starting to empty into the hallway. He stood there, an eyebrow raised at her.
"What were you thinking about? I called you like three times!"
"I just…" Kagome began.
Kagome’s glare softened drastically. Inuyasha wondered if she were about to cry. He seemed stunned when Kagome hesitantly reached her hand out and placed it on the side of Inuyasha’s face. This face was her future, and she had to do all she could to protect it! This was the man who was going to be her husband. This was the man she was going to have children with! If she died now, if she let him die, they’d never be able to have a future together…
"Kagome…! What’s wrong?" he asked, startled by her sudden tears.
He looked around, noticing a few students staring at them. Shit. They probably think that he’d made her cry somehow! Nevermind how Kagome looked, as leader of their school, crying out in the open like this! He froze when Kagome wrapped her arms around him tightly.
"K…Kagome…!" he blushed.
Great, now how did he look in the eyes of the students? Here he was, the ‘big, bad playboy of Mizuryu’, blushing because he was being hugged! Inuyasha Takahashi didn’t blush, dammit! Atleast not in public! Moreover, what the hell had come over Kagome?! He quickly grabbed her hand and dragged her through the hallways of onlookers to a place where they could be alone. He finally found the athletic storage room, made sure they weren’t seen going into it, and quickly slammed the door behind them. He turned to Kagome, who still had tears streaming down her face. He almost asked her if the sudden moodiness was just a product of her ‘monthly curse’, but he remembered the last time he asked her that; she almost put him in the morgue. He shoved his hand into his pocket, scratched the back of his head and sighed.
"What’s eating you, Kagome?"
"I…I’m sorry, I just was thinking…"
"What did I tell you about showing weakness in front of the students? They’re all depending on you to be strong for them!" he sighed in exasperation.
"Who’s going to be strong for me?!" Kagome blurted out.
Kagome quickly covered her mouth, damning her emotions at times like this. Inuyasha cast her slight glance. Kagome hadn’t had a ‘weak moment’ like this in a while. He wondered what triggered it. It really was coming out of nowhere, after all. For the past month, she’d held her head up high, and maintained control of Mizuryu just like the leader she was. Everyone loved her, and respected her. They hadn’t had any losers from Houryu trying to pick fights—just the stupid ones, and Kagome made very short work of them. So far, everything was going to plan! What could she possibly be upset about? Inuyasha just sighed slightly, and put his hand on her shoulder.
"You know I’ll be strong for you, so what are you crying for?"
"Do you want children?"
Inuyasha backed up against the door of the storage room as if she’d just pulled a knife on him. He quickly checked his memory of all the times they’d almost had sex. Nope, they hadn’t! So, there was no way Kagome could be pregnant! And if she was, God himself wouldn’t be able to help the poor bastard who had gotten her pregnant…
"Wh…what?"
"I asked if you wanted children, Inuyasha." Kagome sighed, dying her eyes.
"Hell no! Not now!!!"
Kagome stifled a small giggle at the panicked look on Inuyasha’s face. She really hadn’t meant to scare him. Then again, Inuyasha was like most boys his age—Kids were the LAST thing on his mind.
"I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you. It’s just that…I was thinking…" she sighed with a smile.
Inuyasha watched as Kagome walked away from him, and sat herself on the stacked mats raised about four feet off the ground. As Kagome’s legs dangled over the side, Inuyasha tried not to take note of how her skirt had hiked up, showing her thighs. Now that he knew she wasn’t trying to spring "Hey, by the way, I want kids NOW!" or "So, I’m pregnant!" on him, he was willing to listen to anything she had to say. He reached into his pocket, pulled out his pack of cigarettes, and took a cigarette from the pack. From where she was sitting, she watched him light up, and could only smile slightly. Inuyasha looked like such a bad boy standing there, leaned up against the door that way, with a cigarette in his mouth. He ran his fingers through his long, black hair and turned his attention on Kagome.
"What were you thinking about? You looked pretty spaced in the hallway."
"I guess…I was just thinking about us."
"What about us?" he asked, cocking his eyebrow at her.
Kagome could feel her cheeks burning, but she smiled nonetheless. This would be the first time she would be speaking about something so serious with him. She could never find the right time to ask him about their future, having taken his acceptance of their engagement as peace of mind. But it wasn’t. It just wasn’t enough.
"Inuyasha…do you really want to marry me?"
It was Inuyasha’s turn to blush. He turned his head to the side and huffed.
"I said I would, didn’t I? What, are you still uncomfortable with me talking to other girls or something?"
"No! Well, a little. But this has nothing to do with that. I guess I just want to know the reason for you agreeing."
"I agreed! Isn’t that all that matters? Damn, woman…" he sighed.
Kagome looked at her lap with a sigh. Of course, Inuyasha wouldn’t let his emotions ever show, but she wanted to know. Did he just accept it because he was ‘in the moment’; because he knew it would get his mother off of his back, or…was it because he really cared for her? When Kagome looked up again, she saw Inuyasha extinguishing his cigarette under his shoe.
"I’m sorry, Inuyasha. I know I shouldn’t be asking you this, but it’s important to me. If we survive, where do you see us in five or six years?"
Inuyasha wanted to reply that he wasn’t a fucking fortune teller, and that he couldn’t predict the future. But…Kagome needed comfort. Besides, what harm was there in actually telling her the truth?
"Come on, Inuyasha, seriously. Let’s pretend that the Great War wasn’t happening right now. Let’s pretend we are normal high schoolers."
That actually made it a lot easier. It would be nice to escape reality for a while. He started walking over to her, scratching the back of his head once more.
"I don’t know…alive would be nice. If we lived that long, I guess I…could see us living in an apartment together. It wouldn’t have to be The Ritz or anything, but it’d have to be…ida know, comfortable." He blushed.
Kagome couldn’t believe it. He was actually opening up to her! She smiled at him as he leaned against the mats she was sitting on. He stared up at the gray ceiling of the room and just did what he did best: spoke without thinking.
"I could see you maybe pregnant. I don’t know. I’ll be…twenty-three in five years, and you’ll be twenty-one or so. I guess a kid would be okay, just as long as we could take care of it…"
Kagome was ecstatic. Inuyasha actually saw children in their future!
"Aaannnd?" Kagome couldn’t stop the silly grin from lighting up her face.
Inuyasha turned around to her with a snort. He put his hands on the mat, next to her and leaned in with a smirk.
"Oh, no you don’t. You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?"
"Well, aren’t you? C’mon! It’s fun to talk about the future!" Kagome beamed, wrapping her arms around his neck.
He just chuckled. The moments they got like this were rare, but even if lived to be one-hundred, he’d remember this moment forever. This was the happiest Kagome had looked in a long time, and he had to admit, he was feeling pretty mellow himself.
"Well…I could be working. Hell, I don’t know. I want to have my own bike shop with Miroku. We’d fix up motorcycles, build em…you know, just making money that way. Let’s assume you aren’t knocked up by then, we’re not married, but we are living together…"
"Living in sin?" Kagome chuckled.
"Why not? Anyway, I said let’s assume all those things."
"Okay." Kagome smiled.
"I’d come home, and you’d cook for me. We’d hang out, then…"
Her smile faded when she saw the look in his dark eyes turn predatory. He wrapped his hand around hers and pulled her off the stack of mats. When she was stable on her feet, he leaned in and kissed her forehead.
"We’d take a bath together, just like we do now."
Kagome shuddered when Inuyasha’s hands slid up her arms and closed around her shoulders.
"A…and then…?" Kagome asked, trying to hide her nervousness.
"Then, while we were in the tub, I’d hold you real close to me. I know your body feels against mine when we’re both wet…I like it." He smirked.
Kagome wasn’t sure when he’d managed to back her up against the mats behind her, but she did not care at this point. He put his hands on her cheeks and made her look at him. Kagome saw the serious look on his face as he overshadowed her.
"Then I’d take you. Over," his lips neared hers. "And over again."
The second he kissed her, she wrapped his arms around his neck and pulled him closer. For this small moment in time, they weren’t warriors with death looming over their heads. They were just…
Wait.
What were they? Kagome broke the heated kiss and locked her eyes with his.
"What am I to you? I want to hear you say it. Even if you don’t tell anyone else, atleast tell me." She didn’t beg him to know, but she did want to know, dammit.
"You’re mine." He said, crushing his lips to hers once more.
Kagome slowly closed her eyes and gave herself over to the kiss. She was his. That’s all she needed to know. Inuyasha drowned himself in Kagome’s scent when he broke the kiss in favor of kissing her collarbone. He crushed her tiny body to his larger one, placing one hand on the back of her head, and tangling his fingers in her soft hair. He kept his arm tightly around her waist, and breathed in all of her scent. How long had it been since he’d been able to hold her like this? He hadn’t felt this free since the night he agreed to marry her. What exactly was he free from? It wasn’t as if they were done with this whole war thing. He pulled back slightly, looking at Kagome.
"Inuyasha, what’s wrong?"
They may have not been free from fate yet, but he sure as hell loved the feeling of freedom when he held Kagome. He kissed her forehead with a sigh.
"I’d die for you."
Kagome’s eyes widened a little. Where had that come from? She supposed it was his way of paying her back for her ‘out of nowhere’ tears earlier, but it didn’t feel that way.
"Inuya…"
"I want a future with you, dammit."
"I know." She sighed, leaning her head against his chest.
"I like…this. Like…when I hold you like this, it’s like I don’t have anything to worry about. But I don’t only want to feel this way when I hold you. I want to feel like this after we defeat Naraku. I want to enjoy it."
"You don’t enjoy it now?" Kagome asked, glancing up at him.
"I do! I just don’t want this feeling to…"
"Die." Kagome whispered, finishing his sentence.
A small silence stretched between them. How could they be in love when this was just not a good time for it? No, Kagome thought, it was a perfect time for love. Gripping the front of his shirt, she gave him a quick kiss, obviously surprising him.
"Inuyasha, love me."
"I…" he blushed.
"If you love me as much as I love you, then we both have something to strive for. Sure, our motives for ending the war are selfish, and personal, but that can also be our strength! I’ll use all of the strength I have to protect you, because I know that my true strength comes when I have someone or something to protect!"
Inuyasha was speechless. He wouldn’t admit it, not now anyway, but he’d become stronger since meeting her. He was strong because he wanted to protect her. He was fighting for so many things, but a life with Kagome, a normal life with his friends, and a future with Kagome was what he’d been fighting for. Atleast, now that he had Kagome in his life, that is. Before, he’d just been fighting for Mizuryu, for his friends…for his own life. It was interesting how caring so much for someone put a lot of things into their proper perspectives and top priorities, he mused.
"Alright. I will. I’ll…" his breath hitched in his throat. "…love you."
Kagome wrapped her arms tightly around him, and raised her lips to his. This kiss was different than any they’d ever shared. It was…peaceful. He broke the kiss and sighed heavily.
"Damn…I guess this means no more skirt-chasing."
"Inuyasha…" Kagome glared at him.
"You sure you want to be with someone like me?" he asked with a smirk.
"Oh, you mean someone who’s loud, hot-headed, and proud?"
Inuyasha pursed his lips for a minute, despite the playful smirk on Kagome’s lips. She just tilted her head and kissed him.
"Yes. I’ve wanted to be with you since I was a child, Inuyasha."
"You’re stuck with me, you know that, right?" he asked, sounding playful, but also serious.
"I know. I don’t care."
"And you’ll…love me back, right?" his voice sounded unsure, like he was afraid of her obviously obvious answer.
That set off a pretty massive alarm in Kagome’s mind. It could be taken several different ways, but Inuyasha was asking for something, and she was certain she knew what it was. Kagome gave shy nod.
"Yeah, even…that way if you want to..."
And for the first time, since Inuyasha had actually slept with a girl, he was…embarrassed. He held her closer, sighing heavily. He’d actually never wanted to have sex with a girl so bad in his life. Maybe it was because Kagome wasn’t just any girl. They were on borrowed time, after all…
The shrill beeping of Inuyasha’s cell phone ended what they both wished could have been an eternal moment. He sighed, releasing her for a moment. It felt like there was just so much that still needed to be said. Inuyasha reached into his pocket and pulled out the black phone. He saw it was Miroku, and just decided to bite the bullet and answer it.
"Hello?"
Kagome watched his expression go from annoyed to one of disbelief.
"Y…yeah. I’ll bring her down right now."
Inuyasha ended the call and turned to look at Kagome. Judging by the look on his face, that world where they just were was very far behind them. It was time to face reality.
"What is it?" Kagome asked.
"We have a guest from Houryu. Let’s go."
They left the storage room and quickly made their way down the stairs. Miroku hadn’t specified who the guest was, but he did let Inuyasha know that he and Kagome needed to get to the gate in a fucking hurry. Inuyasha pushed the doors of the school open, greeted by the springtime wind. From where they stood, Inuyasha could see the familiar, dark red skirt and blouse of Houryu. It was obviously a girl. Kagome walked ahead, with Inuyasha quickly walking beside her. Miroku and Sango had taken fighting stances, and could hear a loud interchange of words. It wasn’t until they reached the gate that Inuyasha and Kagome realized they recognized…‘her’.
"Let me through, dammit! I have to see Kagome-San!"
"What the fuck makes you think you can address her so formally, especially after what you did?" Sango snapped, ready to lay into the crossdressing bitch.
"Look, I’m going to see her, even if I have to go through you!" she yelled, producing the large, bone sword from her back.
Miroku and Sango flexed, getting ready to take on their intruder.
"Sango, Miroku, that’s enough."
Both fighters turned to see Kagome casually walking towards them. She walked past Sango and Miroku, and locked her eyes with their ‘visitor from Houryu’.
"Jakotsu. What are you doing here?"
"It’s good to see you again, Kagome-San." Jakotsu managed a smile, despite the getting the vibes that Kagome wanted her nowhere near their school. She quickly placed her sword back in it’s holster. She was here for a good reason, and it wasn’t to make war. Fuck it, Jakotsu was sick of it all.
"State your business." Kagome said, quickly getting to the point.
Kagome remained stoic, while Inuyasha kept a distance. He remembered how Jakotsu had almost had his way with Sango, and had kissed Miroku. He stole a glance out of the corner of his eye and saw Miroku was visibly cringing at the memory of being kissed by a crossdresser, despite Jakotsu telling him prior that he lived as a woman. When the half-smile on Jakotsu’s face disappeared, and her eyes hit the ground, Kagome’s own hardened eyes softened as well. Something was up. Jakotsu asked if they could perhaps talk inside, away from ‘prying’ ears.
"There’s nothing you can’t say in front of all of us." Sango glared at the crossdresser, still vividly remembering how the bitch shredded her clothes with that freaky blade of hers.
"It’s not your ears I’m trying to keep from hearing this. It’s Houryu’s."
Kagome’s eyes widened slightly. She walked a little closer to Jakotsu, taking note in how she actually wore women’s perfume as well. Jakotsu was definitely beautiful by anyone’s standards.
"Do they know you’re here?" Kagome asked, lowering her voice.
"No. That’s why I’m saying take me inside before someone recognizes that I’m here."
Kagome looked at her friends; their gazes screamed, ‘Don’t let that motherfucker into our school!’. Still, Kagome had her own judgment. Without another word, she escorted Jakotsu inside. They made their way to the computer room and upon Shippou seeing Jakotsu standing in the doorway, he almost went on a killing spree. Kagome quickly told him to control himself. He calmed himself when he heard the serious tone of her voice. Kagome was back in no-nonsense mode. Jakotsu turned to face the group, her eyes staring at the ground once more. She closed her eyes for a brief moment, picturing Bankotsu’s smiling face. It calmed her, especially given that she was standing in a room with five of her supposed enemies. She could understand the lack of distrust, but it wasn’t like it made things any easier.
"I know I fucked you guys over…big time. I’m not apologizing for Naraku and what he did, because I’m not here at Naraku’s behest."
"Then why did you come here?" Sango sneered, her hand clenching and unclenching into a fist.
"Just hear me out, please. I…" Jakotsu bit her lip.
The shock on everyone’s faces wasn’t at all hard to miss when Jakotsu dropped to her knees, leaned forward, and bowed. She wanted to keep her pride, but…to help Bankotsu, and to help Kikyou, she’d do anything. Even beg.
"I want you to help Bankotsu overthrow Naraku!"
Kagome had to admit, she was a bit surprised. Bankotsu was practically Naraku’s lapdog. She never would have imagined he had intentions to kick Naraku out of power. Still…
"Why the hell would we help you? If Bankotsu wants to overthrow Naraku, then that’s his business!" Inuyasha yelled.
"Bankotsu isn’t power-hungry like Naraku! If Bankotsu reigned over Houryu, this stupid war could end, and Kikyou can come home!"
A dark silence fell over the group. So, Kikyou was at Houryu. Much to Kagome’s dismay, when Jakotsu raised her head, she could see fresh tears streaming gently down Jakotsu’s cheeks. Kagome’s soft heart melted for Jakotsu. She kneeled down, and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Jakotsu-San…"
"I…I’m really tired of it, you know? Naraku treats her so terribly!"
"Who?" Kagome asked.
"Kikyou! The conditions he keeps her in are horrible! I try and sneak down better food whenever I can, and I’ve begged Naraku to take better care of her, but all he cares about is getting what he wants! And Bankotsu…" she whimpered.
Kagome didn’t miss the look in Jakotsu’s eyes. She wouldn’t dare put Jakotsu on spot. Not with her ‘pack’ behind her, wanting to tear Jakotsu from limb to limb. Abruptly, Kagome grabbed Jakotsu’s arm and yanked her up. The rough gesture surprised even her friends.
"Jakotsu, you and I need to have a talk."
"But, Kagome…!" Shippou began.
Kagome walked over to the door, still keeping Jakotsu by her arm. She turned and looked at the Big Four of her school.
"Don’t follow us. I mean it."
And before anyone could protest, she was gone. When she and Jakotsu rounded the corner, Kagome quickly let go her arm and apologized.
"I’m sorry I had to hurt you like that."
"Kagome..." Jakotsu’s eyes slowly widened.
Kagome reached into her skirt pocket and pulled out a white handkerchief. She offered it to Jakotsu with a small smile. Jakotsu took it and daintily dabbed at her eyes, just like a real lady. Kagome offered Jakotsu something to eat, and something to drink. People stared at the Houryu girl, obviously stunned at her presence. Jakotsu did her best to avoid suspicious glances from them. When she and Kagome had gotten a few snacks, and two cans of cold juice, Kagome led her to the roof, and locked the door behind them so they wouldn’t be disturbed. They sat down against the railing, and Kagome watched as Jakotsu unwrapped a melon bun from its package and nibbled it slightly. Her eyes were still a little red from crying earlier, and Kagome had a feeling she would be seeing more of her tears soon.
"Y…you’re so quick to forgive." Jakotsu muttered.
"Life is too short to hold grudges, Jakotsu-Chan. Besides, I know how hard it must have been for you to come here on your own."
Jakotsu gave another sad nod. There was a moment of silence between the two before Kagome smiled at him.
"You’re in love with Bankotsu, aren’t you?"
Jakotsu quickly shot Kagome a startled look. Only one other knew of her secret love for her older brother, and that was Bankotsu himself, even though he never really reciprocated those feelings. Jakotsu turned her head away in shame.
"Aren’t you disgusted?"
"Why should I be? I mean…it’s a little unusual, since you’re both really boys and all, and he’s your biological brother, but…you can’t help who you fall in love with."
When Jakotsu spun around and wrapped her arms tightly around Kagome, she wasn’t sure what to think. Kagome just returned the hug as best as she could, while Jakotsu sobbed into her shoulder.
"I can’t believe it! You’re really as kind as Kikyou says you are! It’s just been so hard, and I…!"
"Wait a minute, slow down," Kagome said, pulling away a little. "What about Kikyou?"
"Right…that bastard Naraku is keeping her locked up in the basement of our school. He treats her horribly."
"Has he…?" Kagome’s eyes narrowed dangerously.
"No, he hasn’t had sex with her yet. He’s too preoccupied with his new toy, and Bankotsu and I are the only ones who visit Kikyou and take care of her. Well, I take care of her. Bankotsu just sort of sits there and watches."
Kagome breathed a deep, deep sigh of relief. Kikyou was alive. She quickly began to form new orders in her mind to give to the spies currently roaming the halls of their rival school. Kagome leaned back against the railing.
"I’m just so relieved she’s alive."
"I know, but if he keeps her in those depraved conditions for much longer, she isn’t going to live to see next week. Kagome-San…I have a question…"
Kagome smiled at Jakotsu gently, letting her know she could ask her anything.
"Um…so, it’s only by rumor, but is it true that you’re the aunt of Ryouta?"
"Mm-hmm. Ryouta is my little nephew. He’s my brother’s son, after all."
"Souta, right?" Jakotsu smiled, taking another bite of her snack.
"That’s right. Jakotsu, please, tell me…does anyone know if he’s alive or not? What does Naraku hope to gain by holding Kikyou captive? How the hell did he even convince Kikyou to turn herself in like that?"
Jakotsu turned her beautiful eyes to the blue sky. With a somewhat bitter smile, she just chuckled.
"Women in love are so stupid, aren’t they? We’ll do just about anything for the men we love…"
"Yeah," Kagome admitted with a small smile. "We’re pretty stupid creatures. But, that love we hold for the men we love can be our strength, you know?"
"This is why I was able to come here by myself. Of course, Naraku asked where I was going, and I told him I was going to come and kill a few students. It’s not true at all though. I just…"
Kagome watched as Jakotsu wrapped her arms around her legs and brought her knees to her chest.
"I just really want to help Bankotsu."
"If you don’t mind me asking, how did you fall in love with him?"
Jakotsu turned a light pink color as she went into graphic details about how Bankotsu, despite being her brother and also a boy, was her first love. By the time she was done explaining, the sun had began to set. When Jakotsu finished, she expected to see Kagome with a disgusted look on her face, but the Mizuryu leader just smiled.
"That’s so sweet. So…have you two…?"
Jakotsu shook her head back and forth wildly, making herself dizzy.
"No, no! I wish. Even though he promised to take my virginity when I got better after Renkotsu’s little assault on me, we never made it that far. But one day, I just know we’ll…"
Unabashed, Jakotsu turned her eyes on Kagome, who’d also started to turn a slight shade of pink.
"Tell me, Kagome-San, do you know what it’s like to be held by a man?"
"I…! It’s…" Kagome turned her head to the side. "It’s not like I haven’t thought about it. We’ve come so close so many times, but…!"
"We? So there is someone you love? Is it true that it’s Inu-Chan?"
Kagome gave a shy nod, and looked up at the orange sky with a small sigh.
"I want him so bad, but everytime we get ready to do it…"
Jakotsu shuddered slightly. She’d seen Inuyasha in action plenty of times. What she wouldn’t give to be on the receiving end of Inuyasha’s sexual prowess. Jakotsu grimaced, knowing that Inuyasha would probably slit her throat if she tried to make a move on him. But, she definitely did envy Kagome.
"You’re so lucky, Kagome. I mean, Inuyasha is six-foot-two inches of all man. That body, that long silky hair, and those ‘Bed Me’ eyes. Ooooh…" Jakotsu shuddered. "He’s so wild when he fights, you know he probably fucks like a wild, untamed…"
Jakotsu’s sentence was cut short when she saw a massive spurt of blood come from Kagome’s nose. The imagery was too much for her! Kagome’s mind drifted to an explicit fantasy of Inuyasha making love to her in the bathtub until she couldn’t even stand up. She imagined him thrusting into her, growling just like a beast…
"Kagome! Are you okay?" Jakotsu asked, quickly using the borrowed hankercherf to cease Kagome’s nosebleed.
Kagome just nodded while pressing the cloth to her nose. Jakotsu just giggled.
"Looks like that mind of yours is bursting with dirty fantasies."
"Is it that obvious?" Kagome asked, with sarcasm lacing every syllable.
The two girls giggled, leaning back against the railing. Jakotsu sighed heavily.
"Dirty fantasies aside, I just wish there was something I could do to help Banchan. I don’t know what he’s waiting for, but he’s powerful enough to overthrow Naraku. So, that’s why I’m asking you to form an alliance with Bankotsu for a moment. Until you two can both overthrow Naraku."
Kagome closed her eyes, losing herself in her thoughts. If she formed a bond with Bankotsu, and Naraku found out, she knew all hell would break lose. But, if she forged a bond with Bankotsu, and they managed to overthrow Naraku, this war could stop and she could live a normal life. Opening her eyes, she gave a small sigh.
"Alright. I’ll do all I can to help him."
"Thank you so much, Kagome-San!" Jakotsu cried as she wrapped her arms around Kagome.
"It’s no big deal. Just promise me you’ll continue to watch over Kikyou."
"I will."
The two girls stood up and stretched before Kagome escorted Jakotsu downstairs and to the gates of Mizuryu. Jakotsu turned to Kagome once more with a sigh.
"Kagome-San…we’re living on borrowed time, you know? If you’re going to give yourself to Inuyasha, you should do it soon."
Kagome blushed, casting her eyes at the ground. Jakotsu was more than right. But how could she create a perfect opportunity to do so? Kagome raised her head and thanked Jakotsu once more. Jakotsu just bowed, and made her way down the sidewalk, until she was out of sight. Kagome turned and headed back into the school. The hallways were virtually empty, save for a familiar figure walking towards her. They met half-way, standing in front of each other, with no words being exchanged for a good minute and a half.
"So, how’d it go?" he asked gruffly.
"It went fine, Inuyasha. Jakotsu really doesn’t mean any harm."
"Anyone tell you that you can be too trusting?" he sighed, handing Kagome her school bag.
Kagome just giggled, and looped her arm around Inuyasha’s. Together, they made their way down the hallway together. It took them about twenty minutes to reach Inuyasha’s home, but when they were greeted by Momoeiko who wore a very serious expression on her face, they knew something was wrong.
"Mom…?" Inuyasha asked cautiously.
"Kagome, you have a guest. He’s waiting for you in your room. Inuyasha, maybe you’d better stay out here with me."
"Um, okay." Kagome nodded.
Kicking off her shoes at the door, Kagome made her way to her bedroom. Sliding open her door, she saw a young man sitting with his legs folding beneath him. He was dressed in a pair of black pants, and a dark-blue t-shirt, with a black dragon curling around the material. On each of his wrists, he wore a black wristband, and around his neck, he wore a metal cross. His hair went just past his shoulders, but was pulled backwards into a short ponytail.
"Um, hello." Kagome bowed, setting her bag down.
"Kagome…it’s been a while." He smiled, as he stood up.
Kagome cocked her eyes slightly, wondering who this man was. He walked over to her, towering over her with the same amount of height Inuyasha had. His brown eyes smiled softly at her.
"I’ve heard you’ve been a pretty good leader in my absence."
"I don’t…" Kagome began. Who exactly was this guy?
"You don’t recognize your own big brother?" he chuckled.
Kagome’s entire body froze. No, she didn’t recognize him. She hadn’t seen him in over twelve years! No, it had to have been much longer—the last time she’d seen him, she was just a little, little girl.
"S…Souta-Nii?"
He wrapped his arms tightly around her, and smiled.
"I’m home, Kagome."
Frozen on the spot, Kagome could only stand there in the embrace. After a minute or so, she hesitantly raised her hands up, gripped the back of his shirt, and buried her face in his chest.
"W…welcome home, Souta."
