However, these low level demons needed reminders as to who was lord and why. “Pathetic” he growled, before sweeping back into the dense foliage. There was power humming on the air, a power not often felt in Makai. A message, wending it’s way though the worlds. A silent call to arms, felt by all those with demonic blood. The call that the Mekharat had been identified. They might not know her exact location, but they knew she was alive, that she existed. Those unwilling to accept Alliance rulings saw this as an opportunity. An uncontrolled Mekharat could throw the balance into chaos. She could be killed or used, tormented to the point of breaking and then her powers would be unleashed. In the fallout, civil war could erupt. It had been attempted once before, and nearly succeeded. This was one of the reasons that her guardians were youkai. To keep her bound to both peoples. Lifting his nose to the air, he sniffed delicately. There were no others that could threaten her in the vicinity. That, too would change over the passing days. As her powers grew, and then when they were at last unleashed…. There would be no hiding her. They’d have to fight. Sadly, they could not afford to wait much longer. He’d have to speak to her about this matter soon. Something told him, she’d not take kindly to it. He set wards about the area, early warning for those traveling this way. He had better things to do that monitor the area. He had a Mekharat to train. He reflected on the progress she had made so far. Not bad considering… still, he had to make certain that she was ready for what was to come. That she remained as she was and did not become the tool of rage. That she did not shatter under the blows that would be levied against her. Turning, he made his way back to the bole of the tree. ‘Welcome back’ Youko’s voice floated in his head, ‘we need to talk’. His golden eyes narrowed at the fox’s tone. ‘What has happened?’ he mentally demanded. Youko was silent for a moment, ‘return here and we will speak of it’. The bark wavered, allowing the dog to pass through. He moved unerringly through the tangled maze of halls and corridors. His senses alerting him the smallest shift in the plants around him. Slowly, the illumination began to creep around him. Not that he needed the light. Something in Youko’s manner warned him that they had encountered some form of obstacle. He entered the main living area, his nose directing him to the library. Pushing open the door, he stood staring at the fox, who lounged shirtless in the chair Lilian had been in. Sesshoumaru arched a finely curved brow in question. Youko shook his head, “This isn’t going to be easy” he said. The dog lord removed his swords, setting them near the wall and took a seat opposite the thief. “Explain” he commanded. Youko sighed, leaning forward, “She has passion and fire… but, she believes in her heart of hearts... that she is broken. She longs for al over, but refuses to allow herself to have one”. His voice was tinged with frustration and a touch of sadness, “Sesshoumaru, she feels unworthy”. Sesshoumaru’s golden eyes narrowed, unworthy? “That is ridiculous”, he said in a tone devoid of inflection, “She is the Mekharat”. Youko’s sterling tail swished in irritation, “She is not simply the Mekharat” he snapped, “She is a woman, a human woman who has been hurt far too many times. Until that changes, until We change it, her powers will not come to light”. Sesshoumaru pondered this for a long time, “What else fox?” he asked. Youko now leaned back in his chair and sighed, “She has the sweetest kiss in all the worlds”. Sesshoumaru grunted, “One female is much like another” he replied dryly, but he knew that it wasn’t true. Not in the least. He had learned long ago that there were special ones. Ones that made you wish to draw down the moon and stars and lay at their feet. Like the last Mekharat, like his Rin. Lilian was slowly working her way into the shadowed corners of his heart. Tripping her way into his thoughts with that sharp tongue of hers. He thought back on the many dark memories locked away within her, knowing that these things, were what had scarred her so horribly. If they were visible on the outside, she’d be terribly disfigured. The weight of that pain was present however. It hung from her like a dark shroud, blotting the brilliance of the soul within. Making her world small and lonely. It wasn’t right, but that is how it was. Life was like that, oftentimes dealing the cruelest of blows to the most undeserving of people. What had Rin ever done? Besides adore him? Brighten his world? And for that, loneliness had cut her down. His hand tightened into a fist at his side, he’d not allow it to happen again. His youki flared slightly around him for a moment, then settled into it’s usual Spartan control. “We will deal with this” he said at last, “Using all means available to us”. Youko studied his claws, “All?” he asked. Sesshoumaru nodded, “If needs be. Some of those memories she will not need in her training”. Youko snorted, “Soon she won’t have them at all”. His pale golden eyes were troubled by this. Lilian’s former life would fall away, leaving her aware of herself from the moment of her awakening. She might lose all aspects of her memory beyond her training. Sesshoumaru shook his head, silver hair falling neatly down his back. “I must speak with Shiziru” he muttered.
