Truth and Reunion
Arguing with Afzal reminded Inuyasha of the times when the demon surfaced in him; it pulled him after it in its rage, the world reeling around him, and while everything faded into lines that were simple and straightforward, nothing really made sense.
"Love is something we get from the humans," Afzal was saying, his calm voice maddening. "Demons are not capable of feeling it, or any strong emotion really. They are motivated by instinct. As I told you before, we are the perfect, pure essence of both races."
He felt his heart pounding in his chest, and Inuyasha shook his head. "No." He was done with pointless arguing and even more done with listening. "I don't care. Whatever you say, I don't care anymore. If Sesshomaru is here, I don't have time for anything else till I find him. I love him." He paused, meeting Afzal's eyes and repeated, "I love him. Whatever you think he can or cannot feel about me, it doesn't matter." His voice was strong and he stared around at the faces watching him, wishing he could tell them all in a way they'd understand, so that they'd damn well stop trying to get in his way. "I love Sesshomaru."
The quiet Badr turned to Afzal and spoke, his words soft but with a deep, insistent undertone to them. Afzal shook his head, waving his hand dismissingly at Badr. "You are true that it doesn't matter," he said in a sad voice as he turned back to Inuyasha. "I told you I have seen such enslavements before and I will not let you go to live like that."
Inuyasha stepped back with an unconscious snarl. "Who fucking well said you have anything to do
with it?! Not everything is the way you think it is; and it's my damn decision." He jerked a thumb at the quiet faces who watched them. "I'm not one of your 'children' and you can't tell me how to think. Maybe you know a few things I wouldn't mind knowing, but not if it means I end up as crazy
as you." He shook his head, solidifying something in his own mind. "I'd rather end up losing myself completely someday and keeping my faith in Sesshomaru till then, than to ever doubt that he's always told me the truth." He met Afzal's gaze, the other half demon taking a step back at the strength of the emotion in his eyes. "Even when he hated me, he's never lied to me. And I will not let you think you can shove your damn prejudice on me."
Afzal took another step back and stood staring. His expression was incredulous, as if it was his
turn to be not quite certain he fully comprehended the words being spoken to him. Their half
demon audience was whispering amongst themselves, not understanding most of the conversation but understanding Badr's quiet words as he spoke quickly to them, his hands flashing back and forth as he illustrated some point he was speaking on. Badr's hands stilled as he listened to something and Inuyasha pulled his attention away from Afzal for a moment to hear a deep call
that rumbled through him; somewhere between the loud baying of a hound on the chase and the low cry of the lone hunter in search of his pack, it pulled at him, thrilling him, and he responded: "Sesshomaru!" he yelled, and his hand rested on Tetsusaiga and he called again with heart and mind more than voice, "Sesshomaru."
The white demon hound appeared, bounding over a group of trees and coming to him; shedding his demonic form as he moved, he reached up to take Inuyasha's face in his hands and rested his
forehead against his brother's, murmuring, "Inuyasha."
Inuyasha cried out wordlessly, his arms going around his brother and pulling him closer as he buried his face in the demon's shoulder. He pulled away only far enough to touch his hand to Sesshomaru's cheek and claim his lips in a kiss.
--
It was Inuyasha under his lips, and Inuyasha's scent in his nose and he filled himself with that, with
Inuyasha- real and brilliant before him.
Slowly, Sesshomaru became aware of others and their existence. He could hear Badr's low voice
speaking words he didn't care about, and there was Kunya's unwelcome but familiar scent on the breeze as well, and Afzal was there; he knew he should turn to face that foe at least, but he could not take his eyes from his brother. "Inuyasha," he murmured again, his fingers drinking in the feel of his brother's skin. But there was the remnant of a shadow clinging to him, and he looked deep into his brother's eyes and breathed deeply of his brother's scent, and he asked softly, "You are well?"
"A whole fucking lot better since you showed up," Inuyasha murmured back. "But yeah, I'm fine."
His eyes grew worried for a moment in their own turn as he looked at Sesshomaru. "You..."
But Sesshomaru stilled his brother's lips with a finger as he caressed the beloved face and said,
"I am fine as well, and I believe further discussion can wait for the moment." He slid his eyes sideways to regard Afzal for the first time and found the half demon standing uncertainly and not watching him.
Inuyasha snorted. "I am not fucking staying here one fucking second longer. Let's go."
He stepped around Sesshomaru toward the desert without looking back once, before he remembered something and did turn. Pulling a disc of shining silver from where it was tucked into the front of his haori he threw it back to Afzal; it flew in a shimmering arc and landed in the
sand at the half demon's feet. "You lied to me, and whatever you were telling the truth about I don't care anymore." Sesshomaru glanced between them questioningly, but turned to follow Inuyasha.
There was a long moment before Afzal called from behind them, "Wait." Inuyasha either didn't hear him, or ignored him intently, and kept walking. Afzal, with an annoyed growl, easily leapt in front of the other half demon, blocking his path and held out the silver disc to Inuyasha. Inuyasha only stared at it belligerently and folded his arms. "Take it," Afzal said, his voice soft. "It was a gift." When Inuyasha made no move to do so, Afzal knelt and set it in the sand before him. "If I could not save you, I have still grown fond of you, and I meant all I said regarding that. Whatever path you do choose," he glared venom at Sesshomaru as he stood, "it is information you will need, and which I will gladly share with you."
Sesshomaru watched the half demon carefully, but made no attempt to come between him and Inuyasha. Movement from the corner of his eye caught his attention and he turned back to see Badr coming toward them. The dark half blood's expression was fond and exasperated as he looked at Afzal; his eyes flickered to Sesshomaru briefly as the demon couldn't help observing, "What are
you doing here? I thought you did not wish to return to this place."
Badr hesitated, aware that Afzal was listening to his response, and said finally, "I have found that I am glad that I have returned, dragged however unwillingly the entire way." He met Afzal's eyes and held them. "I do not feel I was wrong in what I have said before, but..." His eyes flickered to Sesshomaru again and he shrugged. "I cannot deny truth, and the truth is that I do care deeply what happens here and to those who reside here." He sighed a deep sigh of long suffering. "As for what caused me to leave in the first place, perhaps I can temper obsession with my presence." His gaze rested on Afzal again. "I can do no worse than I could with my absence."
Sesshomaru smirked, his eyes returning to Inuyasha who raised an eyebrow questioningly but waved off his own question with a muttered, "It can wait though. The faster we get out of here
the better."
Inuyasha had hardly finished speaking when he tensed suddenly, whirling and catching Kunya's arm as the demon brought his claws down in an attack, using Kunya's own momentum to throw the demon away from him as he turned, watching Kunya as the demon fell and preparing for another attack.
Kunya tumbled over the sand hissing madly, "Dirty blood, everywhere!" Rather than focusing on Inuyasha he turned to the creature nearest him, Badr, and attacked again. Badr skittered away from the mad demon but nowhere near fast enough- even as Afzal roared, too far away to move more quickly than the demon- and Kunya struck.
But Kunya struck air, Badr yanked backward and pulled down by the only one close enough to have done so, and Sesshomaru caught Kunya by the arm. He narrowed his eyes at the other demon; he would tolerate Kunya's worship, and he would tolerate Kunya's madness, but he would not tolerate Kunya's narrow-mindedness. He pulled forward on the arm he held, drawing Kunya's body closer to himself until he could reach up and grasp the other demon easily by the chin, twisting up and to the side until he heard bone snap.
It happened faster than Badr could draw in a shocked gasp. Afzal came to kneel beside Badr,
touching the other half demon's shoulder as if reassuring himself that Badr was present and unhurt, but his eyes were on Sesshomaru and rather than the omnipresent hatred he had seen in them before Sesshomaru saw confusion tempered with wonder. "You..." Afzal stood and walked closer to where Sesshomaru stood over Kunya's body, Inuyasha growling warningly. "You turn on your own kind." Sesshomaru would have protested that Kunya was no more or less "his kind" than Afzal himself, but the half demon continued, "You turned on him, to protect a half blood."
His voice was thick with amazement, and Sesshomaru felt a strange sort of flashback to a time
when he had regarded himself with amazement not dissimilar. He looked to Inuyasha as his brother hovered protectively, glaring at Afzal. "I have had occasion to reevaluate my opinions concerning blood and its supposed purity." He closed his eyes briefly. "As I told the young lady I encountered within your retreat, you should not consider it as having bearing on any other demons you encounter."
But Afzal was shaking his head. "That such a thing is even possible..." He stared at Sesshomaru
until the demon grew uncomfortable under the scrutiny and moved to stand beside Inuyasha, who glared at Afzal till the other half demon dropped his eyes. Badr was looking at Afzal worriedly and Afzal touched the other half demon's cheek before he finished his thought. "It changes many things in what I thought of the world, despite what you say. I have much to think on."
"That's nice." Inuyasha moved impatiently. "We done here?" Sesshomaru nodded and
Inuyasha glared at Afzal.
The other half demon reached again for the silver disc that lay half covered in the sand and handed it to Inuyasha, who took it this time and tucked it in his haori. Afzal hesitated, then spoke again. "I will be here should you change your mind." Inuyasha made a small noise of disgust and Afzal smirked. "I mean, should you change your mind about learning from me more of what I know."
HIs eyes flickered over Sesshomaru again, wonder still outweighing hatred in his eyes.
Inuyasha glared at him, but his expression slowly relaxed. "If I ever damn well see you again, it
had better be a long time from now."
--
They left Afzal and his group of half demons and Inuyasha couldn't hold back any more. He tackled
Sesshomaru, bringing them both to the sandy ground and pressing their bodies as close together as he could. He fisted his hands in the heavy silk of Sesshomaru's kimono and buried his face against the demon's chest. "I missed you," he breathed, and he felt his brother's deep sigh as Sesshomaru's arms wrapped around him and tried to pull him closer.
"Inuyasha," he breathed in his turn, the name a blessing, a culmination, on his lips. "It has not
been so long," the demon reminded him, his own voice belying his casual words. "Just a few days since I saw you last." Inuyasha snorted derisively and rubbed his face against the rough silk of
Sesshomaru's kimono. The demon reached to touch his cheek. "Something else is wrong," he murmured, "What is it?"
Inuyasha pulled back slightly to look at his brother. "You're really okay?" He shifted uneasily. "Afzal... he said he'd 'taken care' of you. I thought..." And his hands trailed along Sesshomaru's body as if searching for missing limbs.
Sesshomaru sighed; Inuyasha could see that his brother didn't really want to talk about it, but he held the half demon close and said, "His attack was... mental, rather than physical. He has a great ability in spells of illusion." He trailed off, staring in the distance at nothing and one hand absently
stroking Inuyasha's face, for a moment before he pulled his attention back and met Inuyasha's eyes. "You have always helped me defy all illusions." He leaned up and kissed his brother softly along his chin. "Your scent is the most wondrous thing, and has never been duplicated." Inuyasha bent his head to Sesshomaru's lips and claimed his mouth fully.
It was a few moments later when Sesshomaru pulled away with an amused glint in his eyes. "It
is true as well that I did have some other, small help." His eyes slid sideways and Inuyasha
followed his gaze to watch as the dragon circled around trees in its path and came toward them. "From a young woman," Sesshomaru's voice was louder now, admonishing, "who is chronically ill used to following directives."
Rin slipped down from Aa-Un's back and blinked at them innocently. "Rin has not left Aa-Un's side,
just as she promised. And it seems that Lord Sesshomaru has found Inuyasha." She gave a small smile, not unlike something her Lord would have done, but her eyes were laughing loudly.
Inuyasha grinned, leaning down to kiss Sesshomaru again before jumping up and sweeping Rin into a wild hug, laughing as he did so. She grinned back at him as he said, "She followed you; can't say I blame her." He kissed her lightly on the cheek and winked at her. "I mean, who wouldn't?" She nodded sagely, and Sesshomaru could only growl softly about insubordination, turning away so that they could not see the smile that pulled insistently at his own lips.
--
Eventually they started traveling again, the three of them now, heading back to the eastern coast. They went straight across the desert without stopping, Rin dozing on Aa-Un's back as night fell; Sesshomaru gathered her in his arms the second day and she slept deeply curled against his chest.
Inuyasha sighed when he scented saltwater, and stopped in a small meadow of soft grass. A
cluster of date palms stood between the meadow and the beach, where the rocky shore stretched down to the water and disappeared under it; the sun was a slim memory on the horizon behind them. Aa-Un murmured happily as it bent its heads to nuzzle the grass and Rin blinked herself
half-awake as Sesshomaru set her on her feet and guided her down until she was sitting on the ground. "We will rest here for awhile, I think," Sesshomaru said.
"I can travel more," Rin protested, even as her eyes drifted closed, but she quieted as Sesshomaru
pulled off his kimono and draped it around her shoulders. She pulled it close around her and smiled.
Sesshomaru regarded her with a small frown as he realized that while he had seen her removing some provisions from the satchel that Aa-Un carried on its saddle, he had not seen her do so since the previous day. "Rin, are you hungry?"
She blinked up at him. "Yes, Lord Sesshomaru," she replied softly.
Inuyasha touched his brother's shoulder and slipped away, even as Sesshomaru knelt beside Rin and said firmly, "You will tell me if you require anything."
She nodded meekly, and said softly, "Perhaps a fire, Lord Sesshomaru?" It was not yet full
dark but the evening was chilly.
Inuyasha returned to a crackling fire, a large fish wriggling in each hand as he slipped past the line of palms and came upon the camp. Rin dressed and cooked the fish with the practiced ease of someone used to doing for herself; Sesshomaru watched her, amused, and the un-muzzled Aa-Un grazed behind them, one head down while the other watched about and placidly chewed its cud. Something stirred deep in Inuyasha's chest, and he went to sit beside his brother. Sesshomaru reached out to him, draping his arm around Inuyasha's shoulders and pulling at him until he settled closer. The demon turned his head and nuzzled his way through Inuyasha's hair until he found one of the half demon's ears and nibbled lightly. Inuyasha sighed, quite certain that he was entirely content with the world.
The fire had burned to embers when Inuyasha lay his haori over Rin's already sleeping form and then lay beside her. On the other side of the girl the dragon was settled, blinking drowsily, its eyes glowing spots of light in the darkness of the night. Inuyasha felt Sesshomaru lie behind him;
he turned and touched his brother's face in the darkness before curling up and lying over Sesshomaru's chest, the demon's heartbeat a steady thrum in his ear.
--
Sesshomaru woke to the feel of lips on his throat, slowly and lazily tracing their way up to his ear.
He lay still for a moment, simply relishing the feeling of Inuyasha lying against him as the half demon used his tongue to rememorize the curve of his ear, before he sighed approvingly and his eyes flickered open.
The first thing he saw was Rin. She was sitting with Inuyasha's haori wrapped around her, held tight against the chill of the morning, and Sesshomaru's own kimono spread over her lap and tucked around her legs. She was grinning madly, trying to stifle giggles behind hands pressed over her mouth and he turned to find Inuyasha grinning at him as well. He raised a sardonic eyebrow before reaching up and tangling his hand in Inuyasha's thick hair, pulling his brother down demandingly, into a real kiss. The half demon was breathless when Sesshomaru released him, and his eyes
were dark with emotion. Sesshomaru turned and glared pointedly at Rin.
She scrambled to her feet. "I will take Aa-Un to explore the beach," she gasped breathlessly, and
bounded away, pausing only to gather the dragon's halter and urge it, grumbling, to follow her.
Sesshomaru watched her as she slipped past the trees and made her way over the rocky shore, but
Inuyasha, warm and laughing against him, was a great distraction and he turned to his brother. He grabbed the half demon suddenly, pulling him beneath Sesshomaru's own body as the demon rolled on top of his brother. He felt Inuyasha's heart racing; his breath caught as Sesshomaru bent to kiss him again, claiming his lips as Inuyasha rose up against him eagerly. He tasted his brother, nose full of the scent of Inuyasha as well, and felt full and pleased already.
Inuyasha moved beneath him, tangling his legs with Sesshomaru's and then rolling them over again so that he leaned down over the demon. His hands traced the lines of Sesshomaru's face before they slid down to slip inside the folds of his kosode, pulling the fabric away so that he could rub his face against the warm skin of the demon's chest. Sesshomaru murmured to him wordlessly, running his hands up over red clad thighs where Inuyasha sat straddling him, and his brother pulled at his own clothing, shedding his kosode and untying hakama before leaning down to claim another kiss.
Sesshomaru ran his hands up over the strong planes of Inuyasha's back, a soft murmur of approval
escaping him as he buried his face in the curve of his brother's neck, nipping lightly at the skin exposed to him. One hand slid down over his brother's chest and brushed over a taut nipple.
He rolled them, Inuyasha beneath him again, and bent his head to the half demon's chest, determinedly setting tongue to nipple with the pleasing result of having Inuyasha writhing and moaning under him.
He spared some attention for the other nipple, one hand stroking a soft furred ear while the other
brushed the loose cloth of hakama away and tangled fingers in short, thick curls. Inuyasha's moans grew more desperate, asking, his hands alternately buried in Sesshomaru's hair and stroking his face and shoulders urgently. Inuyasha was almost mindless with pleasure- his attempts to help kick what was left of his clothing further away were spectacular unsuccessful- and Sesshomaru was very nearly drunk with the heady scent of it. He rubbed his nose against the half demon's groin, trying to drink in more of that scent; he took his brother's growing cock between his lips and ran his tongue down the length of it. Inuyasha cried out, but that wasn't what either of them wanted today and Sesshomaru let the flesh slip from his mouth as he kissed his way over his brother's hip.
--
The scent of Sesshomaru filled him, and the feel of the demon's skin under his fingers thrilled him,
and Inuyasha felt full, complete. He twisted beneath his brother's strong body, managing to get his hands and legs beneath him, kicking away the tangled hakama, and shoved upward, his body pressing against Sesshomaru above him.
They were back to chest, on hands and knees, and Inuyasha moaned, hardly noticing the pleading sound of it. Sesshomaru thrummed with power, and that power was pressed over every part of him. Inuyasha knew, now that he had let that power get this close, so deeply under his skin, it could undo him if it chose. He had given from every part of himself, and as Sesshomaru paused for a moment- reading him, before bending his head to kiss the side of Inuyasha's face- he knew why. He willingly submitted to that power, because of this- because of the soft brush of lips to his cheek, that asked him, quietly, what he wanted. He trusted Sesshomaru in a way he had never trusted anyone before, because he knew he could.
He felt his brother's fingers tracing in slow explorative strokes down his leg as Sesshomaru kissed his way slowly over Inuyasha's ass and circled his opening with a skilled tongue. Inuyasha trembled with controlled energy, closing his eyes against the early morning light and leaning his weight more forward onto his hands as he slid his knees further apart. He moaned, feeling Sesshomaru's hand
stroking the hard flesh of his cock, and tried not to let his heart beat out of his mouth in eagerness.
--
It took a moment, but Sesshomaru realized what his brother was asking for. He might have arranged them differently, would have liked to face his brother to be able to see the fullness of his climax as it played over his features, but Inuyasha knew what he wanted and Sesshomaru would give it to him- he would give Inuyasha what was in his power to give. His brother had such
strength in him- to have fought the world every day of his life simply for the right to exist- and to have won that fight; and Inuyasha had such pride- and well did he know where that came from- that
Sesshomaru found it pleased him to find that impenetrable front raised to the world, lowered for him. He kissed his brother's shoulder, and smeared a hand covered in pre-come over his cock before positioning himself and sliding into the welcoming heat of his brother's body.
He paused there, feeling Inuyasha hot and pulsing around him, and breathed a deep, shaky breath.
Inuyasha moaned and shifted back against the demon, turning to look back at him with eyes slitted with desire. Sesshomaru growled; he thrust against his brother and leaned down over him. His chest was pressed to Inuyasha's back, and he outlined each of his brother's limbs with his own. There was not an inch of the half demon that he did not cover, skin to skin; he felt Inuyasha's soft sigh and knew he'd read his brother aright. He kissed Inuyasha's shoulder again, and thrust against him. The consuming heat that was Inuyasha's presence seemed to fill him; he felt it deep within, touching every part of him, filling him so completely. "I missed you as well," he whispered against his brother's ear. "I missed you, so much."
Inuyasha gave a sobbed moan in response, falling to his elbows, resting his head on his forearms, as Sesshomaru bent to drop kisses along the expanse of his brother's back. He was thrusting hard and fast into Inuyasha's willing body as his brother trembled beneath him; he was so consumed by his love for this creature, his brother, he could only bow his head and kiss the back of the half demon's neck, marveling that he should be the one trusted enough to be allowed this, to see this submission.
He felt the quick sharpening of Inuyasha's pleasure and the final moment when that pleasure exploded, shooting out between his fingers curled around the half demon's hard length, and brought out in a deep moan of pleasure that shattered over the demon's listening ears. Sesshomaru cried out himself, feeling that pleasure rippling through him, meeting his own and echoing back.
--
Inuyasha moaned again, a deep sated sound, and slipped down to lie full on the grass. He could
feel Sesshomaru lazily kissing his shoulders and neck but it felt pleasantly distant. He dozed in the hazy feeling of Sesshomaru's presence as the demon lay against him with a soft sigh, and was at ease.
Rin's sharp cry broke through the morning stillness and both reacted without thought. Sesshomaru was on his feet before the sound had died away and was airborne in the breath after; the demon hound barely noticing the barrier of trees between the meadow and the beach as leapt over them and ran along the rocky shoreline with a growl and scanned for sign of his charge. Inuyasha snatched Tetsusaiga in one hand and a fistful of fur in the other, clinging to Sesshomaru's shoulder to catch a ride as the demon galloped down the beach.
They found Rin not far away. She was scrambling backward, tripping over the length of her borrowed
kimono, Aa-Un currently engaged in battling what appeared to be a sea demon. The sea creature had several limbs and while it kept Aa-Un, quite literally, wrapped up in a few, it reached for the girl with another. Inuyasha sprang from his perch and blazed Tetsusaiga between the demon and its intended prey while Sesshomaru, with a deep snarl that promised blood, went straight for the thing's throat.
It released the dragon in surprise and turned immediately to flee into deep water; Sesshomaru followed it a short way, returning in frustration with a piece of the thing in his mouth. He shook his head and spat his prize back into the water with a bayed challenge.
Inuyasha watched him with amused exasperation before he turned to Rin. "Are you alright?"
She nodded quickly, refusing to look at him. "Sorry. I would not have bothered you, but Rin
cannot swim... and so I was scared."
"Hey." He frowned and pulled her chin up. Her eyes darted quickly to his face. "Don't
worry about it, kid. It's our job to watch out for you. Shit, if anything happened to you, Sesshomaru would definitely not be happy, and I tend to like him better when he is. So, make sure you
keep screaming out when you need him, you're not bothering anyone." She blushed slightly, her eyes flickering downward. Inuyasha dropped her chin and swore vehemently when he realized he was standing there naked, clothing having been a low priority on the list of things to grab when Rin's life was in danger.
She stood and with grave solemnity offered him Sesshomaru's kimono. "Thanks," he said, wrapping
himself in the long silken garment. He sat beside her on the rocky beach and together they watched Sesshomaru stalk up and down the water's edge, tail lashing and eyes glowing as he snarled. After a moment, the demon came and sat beside them and the three of them watched the
waves while Aa-Un crouched miserably next to Rin.
"Well," Inuyasha said finally, standing up. "Let's get going."
