Chapter 16
Pain ripped through his gut stealing his senses as everything focused internally. Fire burned in a crackling flare along his nerves, slowly easing into a continuous odd double fluttering pulse of warmth in his abdomen, his energy free flowing back into its familiar patterns. His surroundings came back with cries of his name and a dull ache in his knees.
“Lord Sesshomaru are you ok?”
He found he was kneeling on the floor of his room, Rin and Uzura clutching his shoulders the only thing keeping him from ending up face first at their feet. He stopped mid nod at Rin’s question as Uzura’s hand moved over his stomach, his hopeful eyes searched her face.
“You need to take extra care my Lord Sesshomaru.” Uzura released her grip on his shoulder as he stood. “You have more at stake now than just your mate.”
Pride and fierce joy at confirmation he was with child made him ache to rescue his mate and share in the happy news. “Which is all the more reason to bring him back Uzura.” He straightened the three swords at his waist, Tetsusaiga making carrying three swords awkward, and strode from the room to fetch Ah-Un once more dampening his full powers around himself. Let’s see if we can get the cobra to fall for the wounded bird.****
His mind screamed out in rage and pain as the tentacle forced its way further into his mouth. Tears streamed from his eyes as he gagged again, his fangs sinking in uncontrollably, sending foul miasma down his throat to mix with the vomit trying to fight its way out. His claws dug into the bark tearing another chunk from the tree. Almost there, just wait until I get my claws on you, you slimy bastard! He squeezed his eyes shut blocking out the sight of lust on Naraku’s face.
“Pitiful, how can Sesshomaru stand such an inadequate lover?” He smirked as gold eyes snapped open, hate flaring in their depths. “You can’t even pleasure one small tentacle without gagging and biting. I guess he figures he can train you like a pet.”
Rage and shame burst out of control inside of him and without thinking of the consequences he bit thru the tentacle raping his mouth, briefly enjoying the screams of pain from Naraku before his body locked up as he retched, purging the still wriggling tentacle from his throat in a stream of vomit.
“Why you insolent mutt! I should just kill you now as it seems I overestimated your worth to Sesshomaru.”
Pain exploded thru the back of his head just as he regained his breath. **Sesshomaru you promised…** Darkness ate at the edges of his vision as another tentacle snapped out cracking him upside the head sending his consciousness spinning into the darkness, **forever.*****
Kanna bade the flying demon insect she and Kohaku rode to stop and hover as her Lord called to her thru the link.“What’s wrong Kanna?” Kohaku mumbled sleepily.
“Naraku summons us,” she turned and looked over her shoulder at him, “hold tight as we must hurry.” As Kohaku’s arms tightened around her waist she snapped the reins sending them winging to the east.
“I was almost lulled to sleep listening to a strange quick little throbbing pulse coming thru our link.”
Kanna smiled, putting a hand atop his where they clasped her waist. “Your addition as a mate seems to have been the missing ingredient.”
“Missing ingredient?”
“Yes,” she turned again to look over her shoulder, “I am with child Kohaku.”
“What!” He tightened his arms around her, his heart going from a stuttered stop to a mile a minute. “You can’t go into battle now.”
“Naraku summons. We must answer.” She turned back as the insect descended. “Would you have our mate fight alone?” She asked quietly.
His shoulders slumped, his chin resting on her shoulder. “No.” But I’m not letting you out of my site. “Does Naraku know?”
“Yes.”
****Sango had Kirara sink down below the tree line as their quarry paused in mid flight and suddenly changed direction speeding off to the east. “I think things for Inuyasha and Sesshomaru just turned for the worse Miroku.”
“Well then we should get going. We don’t want to be left out of all the fun.”
She shivered as Miroku’s giggles skittered across the back of her neck. Tapping Kirara on the shoulder she signaled the demon cat to follow quickly, the speed of their passage thru the dark night blowing the tears from her eyes. Oh Miroku what have I done to you?
***Inuyasha drifted in a warm sea of pleasure, floating as the currents swirled him thru memories and emotions not his own. Some of the lonely pain filled images sending cooling flurries of snow dancing across his senses. Where am I?“You have retreated into the link itself, not the best place for you stay.”
Why? He asked his demon, shuddering at the memory of whip lashes and tentacles. “How is it you sound so clear?
“This is my domain, the well spring of your demon power.”
And why can’t I stay? Another of his mate’s memories slid thru his senses bringing with it an understanding of a hard learned lesson and the reason his mate cultivated a mask of indifference. All that pain and violence just because he smiled at some demons daughter during a treaty negotiation? He was five! He cringed at the harsh lessons his mate endured.
“The lure of immersing yourself in the memories that your mate shared with you can trap you in its web until your body wastes away.”
Feh, well it’s not like I know how to get my ass out of here! He wracked his brain for all the information Myoga had said about the link. I can’t think with all this stuff cluttering up my thoughts.
“You need to accept the gift your mate gave you. Not just push it into a corner and poke a stick at it, like you do to me.”
He couldn’t see the demon but that didn’t stop the distinct impression of frustrated teasing he got from it. “What? You don’t like to play fetch, what kind of Dog demon are you?”
“Grrr.”
He sighed, “It easier not to let them in and be less painful when he leaves.” He wrapped his arms around himself and away from the tempting swirls of light. Life was easier without all the confusing emotions or the uncertainty of when the moment of happiness would end. “They always leave.”
A bolt of energy slammed into him knocking him off his feet, stunning him more that hurting.
“Why you ignorant ungrateful whelp! No one abandoned you, they died! Your noble father died protecting you and your mother, your mother died fighting tooth and nail against her illness, and Naraku wounded Kikyo pretending to be you and she died.”
He laid there as the truth forced him to face his childish fears. Would they have stayed if they lived? The thought gave him pause. He couldn’t change the past but here was a chance with Sesshomaru to gain all the love and family he’d been wishing for in the ignored corner of his heart.
“Your mate gave you a part of himself to keep with you forever. Trusting you to accept his strengths and cherish his weaknesses as a gap only your strengths can fill.”
“Your right. He gave me his love and here I am whining for more.” He sat up disgusted with himself, hoping he still had time to make it up to his mate. “How do I start?”
“With me.”
Energy coiled around him pulsing with his heart beat. “But…”
“You’ve completed the purge. There’s no longer any risk of going insane. Trust me and claim your heritage.”
Power surged thru him. The elusive strength he’d fought so hard to find learning to use Tetsusaiga easily slipped into place like a key in a lock making him laugh in delight. The bright swirls of his mate’s memories came next filling his heart. “And here I thought I couldn’t love him anymore than I already did.”
**Don’t get sappy on me now Baka, we still have to kill that asshole Naraku. So wake your sweet ass up already.**
**Sesshomaru!**
****“Why are they here?” She whispered to Miroku as she slid from Kirara’s back. “There’s nothing here but an old ruin and dead cherry trees.” Crouching down in the bushes she scanned the clearing. “I don’t see Inuyasha.”He nudged her, pointing to the left, “I believe that bloody pile of rags against that cherry tree is what you’re looking for.” He looked around for his quarry and spotted him coming from the ruins with Kanna trailing behind. The old corpse of trees they hid in barley covered the two of them so Kirara shrank down to her house cat form. “We aren’t going to be able to get any closer without them knowing we’re here.”
She turned to him, the words dieing on her lips, as she followed his gaze to the two forms walking up to Naraku. That’s the same empty look in his eyes he had at the well. She shivered as dread crept up her spine. “We need to move to those bushes over there by Inuyasha and see if we help him.” She stood there until he shrugged and crouching down made his way to Inuyasha.
