It hadn't been hard for Jakotsu to come up with an excuse for him to be in what was now considered to be an empty room and, in fact, he needn't have worried about trying. The moment he had walked back inside the saloon, the barkeep had informed him that they were in need of the room and since it had been his client, Jakotsu was responsible for making sure it was presentable.
Though he feigned being upset about the whole thing, grumbling under his breath about keeping anything of value he might find, Jakotsu mentally smiled to himself at how easy they had made it for him.
After he had made his way upstairs and made sure to lock the door behind him, Jakotsu took a quick look around to make sure everything was how he remembered it being; a bit surprised that the deputies hadn't ransacked his room just for spite and then retrieved the coin purse from where it had been hidden. Hearing the coins jingle with the sudden movement, Jakotsu smiled to himself before placing the whole bag within his own purse and tucking it back away under his clothes.
Scanning the room, Jakotsu discovered only two things: the first was that Bankotsu seemed to only have the clothes on his back to his name and the second was a few stray hairs from a horse's mane. That meant that Bankotsu had a horse he had failed to mention. Sure the sheriff would have confiscated it if he had he known about it, and not remembering there being one outside the jail house, Jakotsu could only conclude that the horse was still hitched outside the saloon.
Smirking silently about how much easier this would make his plan, he made a point to grumble about there being nothing of value as he made his way back downstairs. Happy to realize the barkeep was purposely ignoring him, Jakotsu continued on his way outside and headed toward the hitching post after making sure no one was watching.
As he stood there in the shadows cast from the glowing lamps, it wasn't hard for Jakotsu to figure out exactly which one belonged to the town's only prisoner. There were only three horses anywhere near the saloon. The first was connected to a small wagon and it wasn't hard for him to figure out that it was there to transport the body. The second, he recognized as belonging to one of their long time customers; whom he had seen knocking back a shot of whiskey on his way out.
That only left the last one; a beautiful mare whose saddle bags quickly caught Jakotsu's attention as it turned cautious and warning eyes to him. “Dont'cha worry girl, I'm a friend of Bankotsu's.” Almost as if she recognized the name of her owner, the mare neighed before stomping her front hoof twice. “Well our mutual friend seems to have gotten himself into a pickle, but I've got myself a plan to get him out of it.
“And I need your help,” Jakotsu explained before slowly unwrapping the reins from around the post and, once he was sure she wouldn't buck, he began leading the horse off to a quiet spot hidden from view of the townsfolk, but relatively close to the jail. “Alright girl, stay here and play dead for a while so no one notices you,” Jakotsu instructed as he tied her reins to a nearby tree and began making his way back to the saloon to wait for it to be time to put his next step into motion.
