A/N: So I found this story again after a recent review. I started this shortly before I found out I was pregnant with my first child. He is now a healthy 8 year old even though he was born much too early and was hospitalized for two months. Now he has four other siblings and I now have time to finish this story. I do not remember where it was going, but I know where I am taking it. It shouldn't be much longer until it is finished. For those of you who have waited so long for a chapter, this is for you! I hope you enjoy it! Oh, and I do not nor have I ever owned or make money off these stories. They are just my guilty pleasure! Without further ado, I give you
Dangerous Times
Rin calmly waited and meditated, trying to hold back her own fears and worries. She knew that panicking wouldn’t help and if Sesshomaru sensed her panic his beast would be further enraged. Best to stay calm at this point. She blocked out the whips cracking and snapping behind her. She ignored the exhaustion that threatened to overtake her after her tiring trip to Kagome’s home. She blatantly refused to acknowledge the gnawing fear for her friend and his mother figure. Instead she heard only the wind brushing lightly through the branches, the soft songs of a bubbling stream that ran nearby. She felt the blades of grass against her legs from her position on the ground and the tickle of the breeze that caressed her skin.
Then, like a bubble so fragilely formed, her concentration was broken. The power the barrier threw as it broke rocked her forward so she threw her hands in front of her to catch herself from falling. Rin’s smile was instantaneous as her faith in her lord was rewarded and proven true once again. She spun to him and the smile slid from her face. Her lord was in mid transformation with jagged sharp canines in an elongated snout. His eyes, so beautifully golden, were now a blood red that told everyone nearby how murderous he was feeling. Before she could react, his arms were around her waist and she was flying on his demonic cloud. The speed of the travel was quickly making her sick, but in a matter of minutes they had landed in her courtyard in front of her rooms. Sesshomaru quickly deposited her before racing back for the sky. His transformation completed as she watched and his howl of pure challenge and anger rang through the western lands.
“How long are we supposed to keep them like this?” Sango’s voice was calming, but demanding as she rode on Kilala with a still slumbering Shippo and a worried Miroku.
Inuyasha hugged Kagome tighter to him. “Until I know how to help her so she won’t hurt us or herself.”
The quiet determination in his voice laced through with his unspoken pain silenced his traveling companions as no other words could. They were all worried after Inuyasha told them that he had learned that Kagome had been placed under a spell that made her obedient to Sesshomaru’s will. They were enraged when that meant birthing an heir and keeping Shippo around to have someone to threaten when necessary. None questioned how Inuyasha had learned this or whom he had learned it from. It was believed that he would never lead them astray.
Unbeknownst to the group, Kagome could hear every word. She knew they were headed east because she could smell the difference in the trees. Since the sutras were made for pure demons, Kagome was able to fight it. Her human blood was keeping her safer at this moment than her demon lineage. She knew that she was in no real position to fight her once friends, so instead she thought and planned. Kagome had every intention of returning to her love with her kitsune and her children safe.
Sesshomaru flew as fast as he could push his demon self who really needed no ushering. His beast was just as furious and just as driven as he to return to their chosen female. The guilt for not protecting her and their pack, the anger at Inuyasha getting the best of them, it all fueled into one desire – to kill. His mind filled with all the savage ways he could tear his brother apart.
Finally, the group landed at a cave. Miroku immediately began putting sutras around the entrance as strong as he and Kaede could make to keep Sesshomaru at bay. They knew it wouldn’t be long before he tracked them down. They just hoped it would be long enough. Shippo was tucked into a corner with Kagome lying beside him. She was still feigning the sleep of the unconscious when she heard Inuyasha squat beside her.
“All of this could have been avoided.” He seemed to be talking to himself. “I should have just claimed you or, at least, found you sooner. Now you are pregnant with his children. I wonder if you actually love him or if it just those bastard’s pups you love so much. You always were a mother at heart.”
Kagome felt a claw run over her belly and she had to fight, not only her beast, but her own instincts to move away from the threatening appendage. The claw left her stomach unscratched. Just as Inuyasha drew a breath, a resounding howl filled the area. Kagome’s heart began to beat harder, but it was luckily unnoticed since Inuyasha had already sprang up towards the entrance.
“Sesshomaru.”
A thunderous boom echoed through the cave and shook the walls as the acid drooling demon landed. His maddened eyes focused on the entrance to the cave and he began to pace, sounding out with growls and barks. Inuyasha’s ears swiveled furiously.
“What is he doing?” Miroku’s eyes followed the movements of the giant dog, fear etched in every line of his face.
“Talking,” Sango answered. She turned her eyes to Inuyasha. “What is he saying, though?”
Inuyasha listened to the snarls and barks before answering her. “He is giving us an ultimatum. He wants Kagome and Shippo, unharmed, or he will kill us slowly.” His knuckles were white on his hilt of the ancient sword he had been given.
“Not happening,” Sango murmured with a quiet determination. Miroku nodded, the fear being replaced by a holy wrath. Inuyasha looked at his companions before issuing a series of barks and growls.
Sesshomaru’s pacing stopped immediately and his snarls grew in intensity. He leapt for the entrance as the two humans and his half brother sprang from inside the cave. Jaws, dripping acid, snapped at his three opponents. So close to Miroku and Sango, Inuyasha refused to use one of the deadly attacks from his blade. The combatants were so focused on each other that none noticed or heard the movement within the cave.
Sesshomaru’s blood rang through Kagome, translating the challenge issued and the insulting answer given. When the battle began, Kagome moved trembling hands to the sutra on her forehead and removed it, hissing at the holy powers that fought her. Hands still slightly burning from the spiritual papers, she leaned over Shippo and removed the paper from the kitsune. Within seconds of being released from the induced coma, Shippo had sprung up and into a battle stance. Kagome, lagging from the spiritual energy that was forced on her in her condition, was only a moment behind him and they raced for the entrance. The sight was horrible.
Miroku lay crumbled against a tree, blood flowing freely from a wound to his head. Sango was heavily favoring a leg that seemed to be broken. Inuyasha’s robes were smoking from the poison that was seeping into them. Kagome’s eyes went to Sesshomaru and she gave a quick gasp. He sported many cuts and was limping rather obviously. One of his eyes was closed, protecting the tender organ from the blood that dripped into it. Watching Inuyasha circle him again with Sango moving to his rear kicked in instincts that were still very foreign to Kagome.
In a flash, Kagome suddenly had Inuyasha pinned beneath her. Her fangs held his throat in a grip that, if she applied just an ounce more pressure, would sever his windpipe. Every movement in the field had halted. Sesshomaru’s growls slowed and were replaced by a worried whine, but it was ignored. Inuyasha began to struggle until Kagome gave him a solid and unmistakable growl that translated into one word – Submit!
The sudden command from the girl who previously existed within the bottom of the pack set his eyes flaring red for a moment and his struggles renewed. Kagome’s growl became louder and she delivered a sharper pinch to his throat that pricked the sensitive skin. The growl was a harsher command now. Submit or die!
Inuyasha did the only thing he could do. His hands lowered slowly and a whine filled his chest. Head lifted to further expose his throat and hands in a noncombative gesture, his whine cemented his defeat. I submit, alpha.
Kagome growled once more –Do not forget!- before she backed off. A small trickle of blood decorated her lips as she threw her head back and released a piercing howl that was joined by a tenor howl from the dog demon behind her. Sesshomaru watched as Kagome turned red eyes on him. Her growl began to form in her chest, but he cut it off with a fierce one that pulled his lips over his fangs. I am your pups’ father and your alpha!
Kagome blinked slightly and then, barely, showed throat to her male. Satisfied, Sesshomaru began to shimmer and then shrink to his normal humanoid form. “I want to kill them.” His statement was simple and deadly.
“No, koi.” Kagome’s firm voice made it clear how she would handle that.
“Koi?” Sango’s voice was shrill in her shock. “Kagome, you are under a spell! He is not your love. You love Inuyasha!”
Kagome’s growls erupted again, but the red had bled from her eyes, leaving her in control more than her beast. “I love Sesshomaru and told Inuyasha as much when he arrived at my shrine.”
Sango’s eyes widened. “Told? Inuyasha?”
Kagome’s watched Sango’s reaction through narrowed eyes that bled red again. The truth! Her bark was a clear command directed to Inuyasha.
“I lied so you would help me, Sango,” Inuyasha spoke as if the words were dragged out of him. “I wanted to break them apart because I love Kagome.”
“She is not yours,” Sesshomaru stated calmly.
Inuyasha’s growls were cut short from another command. Quiet! Kagome faced her friend. “I am with Sesshomaru because I want to be. As alpha of this pack, it is my choice who my mate is.”
Sango looked at her in confusion.
“Dogs are pack animals,” Sesshomaru answered. “Kagome acted on instinct and claimed the spot of alpha over this pack. Inuyasha cannot challenge her decisions for a mate now that she has won that right.”
Inuyasha’s growl were silenced once again and Sango took the opportunity to move towards Miroku who was waking up. She glanced up at Kagome again, her brown eyes meeting normal brown within her sister’s face. “And he is your choice, Kagome?”
Kagome looked at Sesshomaru who quirked a brow at her. Kagome gave a small smile. “He is, Sango.”
Sango nodded as Miroku glanced blearily around. Shippo came out finally studying everyone. “Can we go home now?” His voice was groggy, but his eyes were focused on Kagome as he watched her to reassure himself she was actually ok.
“Yes, I’m tired.” Kagome barely finished before Sesshomaru had scooped her up bridal style. “I will send for you and Miroku when the babies come.” Her words were barely out of her mouth and they had begun running.
