Chapter
17: Did I Miss Something?
Kagome was trying to speed up her
cleaning process as best as she could, much to Koga’s irritation. He kept trying to “help” her, but she just
kissed him very quickly and kept cleaning up.
“Ok. What is the hurry? It’s not like you called somewhere and got reservations last
night. I don’t know of a place that
even does that,” he huffed at being ignored in favor of getting clean.
“We
are meeting someone though for breakfast, and I don’t want to be late. Come on.
I promise that I will make it up to you. Plus, I think you just might have fun,” she told him in the most
tempting tone she could manage.
Koga eyed her curiously as he tried to
think of who he could be meeting. He
had already met her family, so this left her friends. It must just be a girlfriend or someone like that.
He smiled and shrugged at her,
deciding that he could behave himself and have a great reward for it later
on. That sounded like the best idea
ever at that point except for just scrapping the meeting and staying home. Well, he wanted her to be happy, so that
wouldn’t be such a good idea.
The couple quickly finished getting
dressed and headed out the door and into the car. Kagome gave the directions that she had gotten to Koga, and soon,
they pulled into the parking structure near the little shop.
It didn’t take Kagome long to find who
she was looking for.
Koga’s eyes became big as the smell of
Inu Yasha permeated his senses. He
glanced to where Kagome was excitedly heading and had to hold back a
groan. He had something of an
acquaintanceship with Inu Yasha because of this girl, but they only really
talked and got together as they felt like it.
That would not be often though.
He had felt empathy for him after
Kagome disappeared. It had been just as
difficult for both of them. He had
always been aware of the hanyou’s feelings for Kagome, but he had still been
determined to have her because of his feelings for her. It had been hell on both of them when she
disappeared though. Inu Yasha had been
the one to truly understand.
Koga did wonder why he had never
divulged his secret about this woman that held so many people’s hearts and
affections. He would have once assumed
it was because Inu Yasha was using the knowledge to his advantage, but in
reflection, he wouldn’t quite believe that now. Inu Yasha may not follow demon or human law, but he had his own
law that he was very loyal to.
Kagome relaxed as she spotted Inu
Yasha and reached where he had been seated.
Koga seemed lost in thought as he stared almost straight past Inu Yasha. She moved ahead and hugged her childhood her
friend. His arms slipped around her,
holding her at her waist and between her shoulder blades. Her arms had been wrapped around his neck as
she pulled herself closer to him.
“I
am so glad you called last night. We
really have some stuff to talk about.
How long have you been here?” she bubbled out into the hug.
Koga seemed to snap out of his stupor
as he watched his mate and Inu Yasha embrace each other. He felt awkward in a sense. It wasn’t a romantic embrace at all. But, he still found himself not sure how he
felt about the scene in front of him.
All three sat down amicably at the
table that Inu Yasha had been occupying before. Inu Yasha had been the one to pull out the seat that was closer
to his original seat for Kagome and slid it soundlessly to the table before
slipping back into his original seat.
Koga didn’t make a sound of thanks or
warning at this action. He just took
his seat, staring at the silver haired hanyou across the seat. His dog ears weren’t visible thanks to the
bracelet he wore. A lot of demons and
hanyous disguised themselves in that way.
Koga just never did. His pointed
ears were easy enough to hide with his long hair, and the only thing that made
him stick out was his eye color. He
liked it though. He didn’t mind
sticking out since it wasn’t so unusual as dog-ears or facial markings. People never thought him anything more than
human.
“I
haven’t been here long. Just ordered a
cup of coffee and sat down a few minutes ago.
You should have known that I couldn’t wait to call you, Kagome. It’s been hard, adjusting to life without
you though. I didn’t want to interrupt
while you were supposed to be traveling though. Now that I know, I am not going to let you just go again.” Inu Yasha leaned back in his chair as the
waitress, dressed in casual jeans and a tee shirt with the name of the café emblazoned
on the left upper part on top of a tiny pocket, came up and set down a mug of
hot coffee in front of him and turned to the other two and started taking
orders.
The small group ordered a small meal
with coffee all around and chatted amicably, discussing small events and
leaving the bigger discussions for another time. Koga had wanted to know about Sesshomaru working at the hospital
and wanted to discuss what has been up with him lately with Kagome. He knew the taiyoukai had never shown an
interest except curiosity in the past except for the sheer dislike for her
humanity and ability to retrieve the Tetsusaiga from Sesshomaru’s and Inu Yasha’s
father’s grave. This was one of those
things that he had found out over the years.
How he had never found out or figured out that she hadn’t been from that
time completely eluded him, but it didn’t matter now. He still had to find out a way to make her immortal, so she would
be able to stay with him for rest of their very long lives.
The meal passed in a blur for the
trio, ending with information being exchanged between Inu Yasha and Kagome as
well as promises to get together soon so they can meet and catch up on family.
Koga found himself stiffening slightly
when Inu Yasha promised to pick Kagome up soon so they could hang out when she
wanted to. The other man had added that
Koga could always join them.
Koga found himself acting rather like
how Inu Yasha used to when Kagome had been the half dog demon’s traveling partner
and was also the center of his life in the process. He stepped right up to Inu Yasha and nearly pressed their faces
together, feeling the need to send his challenge silently.
He heard Kagome sigh behind him and
place her hand on his shoulder. “Koga,
you are making a scene, and you know that there is no need in behaving like
this. Neither of you have a reason that
I will accept to this behavior. Now,
let’s go home. I know that you have to
be very tired.” Kagome tugged just a
bit, pulling him back from her friend in gesture that conveyed her belief that
it was time to go.
He reluctantly followed. He knew that Inu Yasha still wanted her, but
he just didn’t know if he would be willing to violate the sanctity of their
mating for that lust or whatever it was he was feeling.
When they had gotten into the car,
Kagome turned to him and touched the side of her face, cupping his cheek and
touching gently with her fingers.
Kagome leaned into her light touch, trying to absorb as much of it as he
could. “You shouldn’t try to fight with
him. I did miss him a lot, and I want
more than anything to have my friend back.
Can you please try to at least get along with him? I know that you two didn’t seem to like each
other in the past, but it would mean a lot to me,” Kagome begged while bringing
her other hand into play on his chest.
She was rubbing and caressing him through his shirt as she kept her big
eyes trained on his.
Koga sighed. He wanted to keep her to himself, but he knew that would be the
ruin of their relationship. Kagome was
not a person that he could just lock up in his cave and hide away for his
pleasure only. She was a person that
attracted people with openness. She
drew people’s trust out easily and kept their confidences. It was no wonder that the hanyou had held
onto her so viciously and was mourning so terribly when she disappeared.
He leaned forward and kissed her,
sliding his arms around her tightly.
She was pressed close to him, her heart beat calming him and making him
hot even as she was breaking the kiss with a blush.
Koga looked around, realizing that her
attention was not on him at all.
He looked out the car window to see
Inu Yasha staring at them. The look on
his face could only be described as crushed and pained, and Koga knew that
Kagome saw it. She was staring into the
golden gaze of her long time, estranged friend and pressing back into the seat,
trying to become one with it.
The look was finally dropped, and Koga
took that moment to crank the car and head back to the apartment.
Thank
you to all of my readers, raters and reviewers. I finally got the chapter done.
A
special thanks to my reviewers:
Ravens Tears 00:
I am not sure how it is going to be from this point. LOL
You’re welcome. Thanks for
reviewing. I hope you got a good
picture of how he reacted. The way I
was seeing it, Koga knew Inu Yasha was around, and they quantified their
relationship to little more than acquaintances.
Ruby:
Thanks. Don’t hesitate if you
are curios about anything else. I hope
to get another chapter out soon. I was
about to swear that I wasn’t going to finish this chapter. I finally did though… now I get to go work
on another chapter for Push.
LOVER:
Hey! Sorry to hear about the
internet connection. Mine can get a
little nutty since it is dial up.
(SUCKS!!!) But, we are looking
into different satellite companies.
Phoenix Wolf: Oh no! I understand that
though. I believe we have all been in
those spots that made us unsure of employment.
We used to play games during inventory and have contests to make it
interesting in a clothing store I used to work in. My mom would come in and make like 30-50 for the day depending on
how long she was there. It got fun
sometimes. (Yeah, I know how
paradoxical that sounds.)
Ai Kisugi: Oh dang. I thought it was
in there. Well, it’s melrosefaulkner@yahoo.com. I am online anytime my computer is on, so
feel free. I am using quite a few of
your ideas, so I will definitely give you credit for them. I think I am adapting something with that lemon
you were asking for. It will be good
though. And, that line has to be in
here somewhere! That had me rolling
around and laughing. It was hilarious
b/c I had one of the discs in from the second collection, and it was the one
where Koga declares that Kagome was his woman.
ROTFL
Ravens Tears 00: I did… As fast as I could get it done. Thanks!
Saruwarui: Thank you! I hope you
enjoy. I love getting feedback
(reviews).
