Chapter 17 - The Uninvited Guest It had been a month since Ayame had gone to the cave of The Crying Woman and turned the stone. She had sat there for at least twenty minutes, talking to the stones, asking if Akimitsu was there. But nothing happened. She had lost count of how many times she had said "Akimitsu, my love, be free!" At one point, she was yelling it. Was this some sort of joke? Had Sesshomaru put someone up to this to see how far she would go to end his mark? Ayame had angrily taken back her sword from the stone and returned to the palace with her hopes dead. She would never be able to remove Sesshomaru's mark. Today she sat on the balcony attached to Sesshomaru's room. She had taken a liking to his room during the day; since he was always in his office. She liked it because she could watch her wolves play in the garden and no one would disturb her because no one had the balls to enter Sesshomaru's room. Grinning she watch the growing pups chase after the birds that dared to visit the bird fountain. They were getting so big, soon big enough to hunt. Somebody cleared their throat behind her, and she turned. The kappa's huge yellow eyes stared up at her. She wrinkled her nose in disgust, wishing he was small enough to squash under her foot. "What?" "Lord Sesshomaru has requested your presence in his office." Ayame snorted, holding back a laugh, "You mean my bedroom." He stuttered, trying his best to be polite to his masters obnoxious mate. "Well. Yes." She shooed him away with her hand, as Sesshomaru always did to her, "No, I don't feel like it." Sputtering, the imp flapped his arms, "B-b-but MY LADY! This is very important! His Lordship will be very upset with me if I don't bring you." Ayame leaned on the railing of the balcony with a wide grin. "Good." But he wasn't going to quit, he even had the nerve to tug on her skirt, "My lady, I must insist." Ayame snarled and tuned on Jaken, her eyes glaring daggers, "I said I'm not interested!" Grabbing the quivering imp by the robe, she threw the screaming green man over the balcony. She smirked as she watched her wolves chase after the flying green blur. Shading her face with her hand, she nodded, "Good throw. I'd say at least double points." "I'm glad that you find such amusement in torturing Jaken." Ayame continued to look out over the garden, watching her wolves surround the wiggling green blob. They all took turns pawing at him curiously. "I'm under the impression I only have to see you at night. I'd appreciate it if you let me be during the day." His hands clasped her shoulders and turned her by force. "Stop acting like a child and come to my office. I have an important guest for you to meet." "I figure if I continue to act like a child, you won't try to rape me." She replied smartly. Sesshomaru didn't seem to find that comment funny as he pushed her out his bedroom door and dragged her into his office. "I apologize. My staff are hard workers and never seem to have time to spare." He said as he sat at his desk, speaking to a demon that sat in the chair before the great desk. "This is Ayame. My Palace Keeper." Ayame stood at the door, about to leave, when the demon who sat in the chair, turned to face her, "Pleased to meet you Ayame, I am Akimitsu." It took everything in Ayame's power not to let her jaw drop. What was he doing here in Sesshomaru's office? She felt the sudden urge to hyperventilate. This could not be happening. "H-h-he-ello", was all she could manage. "Akimitsu is an old friend of mine, he will be staying here with us for as long as he wishes." Sesshomaru explained. Akimitsu continued to look at Ayame, grinning at the still shocked expression on her face, "Very old friends." The dream demon added. Sesshomaru nodded. "Akimitsu needs to be shown around, and also shown to his room. Which will be in my old office. You will do the honor." Crossing her arms, she looked away from Akimitsu's handsome face, "I'm busy. Get Jaken to do it. All he's doing is lying in the garden." Sesshomaru's sharp claw tapped impatiently on his desk. "Yes. I wonder why. No, Ayame, I believe you should. Make time for our very important guest." The dream demon turned to Sesshomaru, "I'm appalled by the lack of respect your Palace Keeper shows you. Perhaps you should get a new one?" He turned to face her again, his lips sporting a cocky smirk. For a slight moment, Sesshomaru's eyes rimmed with red. Maybe embarrassing him in front of an 'old friend' was the wrong move. She would pay for this tonight... "Perhaps you should do something productive for once instead of spending your time becoming the palace's jester." Biting her bottom lip, she kept in her snarky retort and nodded. She opened the door and said in her most polite tone. "Right this way, I can't wait to show you around." "Perhaps she can be trained after all, Sesshomaru." Akimitsu announced as he walked out the door Ayame held open. They walked around the palace together as Ayame pointed out the kitchen, dining room, library, and bathhouse. She then headed towards his room, or Sesshomaru's old office, which hopefully didn't smell as strong. For the whole tour he was quiet. He nodded and looked where she pointed but didn't say a word, until they got to his room. "So this is your room. I hope you enjoy your stay. If you need anything, ask Jaken." She turned to leave, but he quickly wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her backwards into the room. "Ayame," he whispered in her ear, "Thank you for freeing me. It's nice to finally touch you." She shuddered as he drew in a deep breath, "This room smells... amazing..." Letting her go, he looked around at newly furnished bedroom. She recognized some things from her old room, which she missed greatly. "Why are you here?" He stopped to grin at her, "Besides to touch you?" She crossed her arms and rolled her eyes. It was odd having a conversation with him and not having music play in the background. "Yes. Besides that." He stepped closer to her, "To return my end of the deal." Ayame looked up at his handsome face, blown away by how bright his eyes were. Being with him in person was overwhelming and... he seemed different... She opened and closed her mouth as she felt the hope swell inside of her. "Alright,so how are you going to do it?" Slowly, he cupped the side of her face with his large hand, running his thumb gently over her bottom lip, "I'm not going to tell you, but know that I'm working towards that goal." Ayame gasped softly for air when she realized that she wasn't breathing, how could this guy be so charming? He chuckled, his hand moving to the choker around her neck. Tugging it down, he smiled. "It's faint, that's good." Flushed with a odd sense of embarrassment, she moved the choker back over the mark. "Why would you want to help your old friend's mate escape his grasp?" She questioned. He let his had fall to his side, "Because when I was in love with a human, he refused to understand or help." Ayame uttered an "Oh", before looking down at her shoes. Then it dawned on her. Akimitsu was a powerful demon. It was very possible he was more powerful than Sesshomaru. And he also seemed to have a thing for her. "Wait just a second. Are you planning on replacing Sesshomaru's mark... with your own?!" Taking a few steps backwards, she bumped into the wall behind her as she looked up at Akimitsu. He smirked down at her, leaning a hand on either side of her head. "Ayame. Be reasonable. Would you rather him, or me as a mate?" Hitting his chest, she shoved him away from her. "I refuse to be passed around like some toy!" He laughed, putting his hand up in surrender. "Admit it, Ayame, you're attracted to me. Soon enough you'll find yourself in my bed." She snorted as she opened the door, "You're just as bad as him. Though you have no power over me like he does." As Ayame left, she could feel him watching her with those gleaming turquoise eyes. It was all very well when he was the handsome man in her dreams, but now he was in the palace, in far better favor with Sesshomaru than she. Shaking her head, she told herself not to worry. Having two powerful demons trying to get into her pants was no big deal... ******************************** The next morning, Ayame managed to crawl out of bed without Sesshomaru noticing. Feeling pretty proud of herself, she made her way down to the kitchen for breakfast. She entered the steaming room and walked straight back out. Because there, in her normal spot, sat Akimitsu. Ayame grit her teeth together. Why couldn't she have one pleasant moment to herself? Clenching her fists she walked back into the kitchen, past the table Akimitsu sat at, and went straight to Satoru. "Why is our 'Very Important Guest' sitting in the kitchen and not in the dining room?" Ayame asked. Satoru shrugged, handing her a plate of dumplings. "He said he didn't want to eat alone." Ayame stared at Satoru as he went back to stirring a pot. Did he not realize that Akimitsu was a dream demon? Clutching her plate of dumplings, Ayame took the farthest seat away from Akimitsu. He gave her a dazzling smile, "Good morning, Palace Keeper!" Grumbling, she stuck her chopsticks into a dumpling and shoved it into her mouth. She didn't feel like small talk right now. "Oh those look tasty, mind if I try one?" Without waiting for her response, he reached out with his chopsticks for one of Ayame's dumplings. Eyebrow twitching, she slapped at his hand. "No." He pouted at her, "Why not?" She peered at him and shoved another in her mouth. Laughing, he wiggled his eyebrows and went for the dumpling again. Growling, Ayame made a quick stabbing motion with her chopsticks towards Akimitsu's hand. Her chopsticks made a good sized dent in the table. Looking pretty proud of himself, the dream demon placed the dumpling he had won on his plate. Ayame frowned, "How...you THIEF!!" She stood and dived for the man, tackling him to the ground, she pointed her chopsticks to his throat. Satoru ran out from behind the counter with a shocker expression. "Ayame! What are you doing!?" All Akimitsu could do was laugh at her as she poked his throat with her chopsticks. "He stole my dumpling!" Ayame complained to the cook. "I believe you already know that Master Akimitsu is a very important guest of Lord Sesshomaru. I don't believe he'd be happy to hear that his Palace Keeper is tackling guests over dumplings!" Satoru lectured as pulled Ayame off the laughing dream demon and pushed her towards the door. "But.. Satoru! I haven't finished my dumplings!" Ayame complained. Satoru shook his head, crossing his arms. "You have maids to train. Off with you." He closed the door promptly in her face. Ayame stared at the door with her mouth agape. Even Satoru had turned against her! That was her dumpling! She kicked the door and turned down the hall. The faster she got the maids trained, the faster she'd be able to sneak back into the kitchen during Satoru's sake break and steal some more dumplings. She snickered as she rubbed her hands together. No one got between Ayame and her dumplings. No one. Three new maids stood waiting for her near the entry hall. Each maid was equip with a feather duster; Ayame would be teaching them all how to dust. The professional way. Ayame had them introduce themselves, then made her way to one of the many statues of the palace. "Now.... you have to make sure you get the tops of the statues heads. When you reach up," she reached up with her feather duster, "Be sure you hold your breath, because the dust might make you sneeze, and that always ends badly." She smoothly dusted the top of the statue, holding her breath, of course, and then stood back with a 'tada' stance. A husky chuckle came from behind the maids. "What an interesting class. Would I be able to get private lessons?" "Alright girls, how about you go try out for yourself? I'll be by to check on you later." She shooed off the maids as she glared at the dream demon. "Are you an aspiring maid?" "Yes." He said as he pulled her into a darkened hall. She crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow at him, "Then perhaps you should talk to Sesshomaru about hiring you." He swayed closer to her and hmmed, "No, I believe you're in charge of that. When's my interview?" Ayame look down the hall. "Never." She sneered. Akimitsu tsked, placing his hands on her hips. "Ayame. Don't act like this. I'm sorry about the dumpling, alright? I'll make it up to you." He pulled her against him, much like Sesshomaru would of. She continued to look away from him, her arms still crossed. "No. You're not forgiven" He leaned forward and whisper softly in her ear, "Don't be pouty, my flower. I only came here for you. I'll leave if you really hate me that much." This time she looked at him, Akimitsu looked serious. Sesshomaru wasn't holding him here. Her gaze moved from his bright eyes to his grinning lips, "I just... I went without breakfast because of you!" "Aww." He cooed as he tapped her nose lightly. "I'll tell Satoru that it was all my fault and to make you another plate." Ayame's eyes lit up. "Really?" He grinned down at her, "Really really." Ayame uncrossed her arms and hugged Akimitsu around the neck as Rin came around the corner. "Oh good. Does this mean you realize that Lord Sesshomaru belongs to me?" She said with a bright smile on her face. Ayame coughed, jumping away from Akimitsu. The teenage brat must have just arrived to visit. "No, Rin, I was just thanking our important guest for a... gift." Rin snorted and walked past them mumbling. Shrugging, Ayame poked at Akimitsu chest. "Now. About my dumplings."
