((AN: Ok, so, I wrote this part up to this chapter years ago, reposted it several months back with the thought of finishing it and ran into a problem. Ive spent the last few years rping and I no longer write the same. I believe my writing is more detailed now, and when I tried writing a new chapter, I realized just how different it has become, which gave me a block right off the bat. Im giving this another try. Its been years since Ive written in first person and its the only story Ive tried in the pov of a female character, so please forgive me if it seems a little different than the first 16 chapters, because well, it will be. And side note, I dont even remember how I wanted this story to end, so Ill be making it up as I go from here on. haha.
Thank you to Amberella for your reviews. I hope you are still reading, its because of your reviews that I have decided to pick this back up.

It wasn't until night that I realized just how many people were living in this home, or just how small the home was. We slept side by side on rolled out blankets, victims to the mass amount of body heat and various smells that each person radiated. Being woken by a whimpering child or a neighboring restless sleeper making the morning dawn lighting up the room, a welcome site.
I quietly stepped over the sleeping bodies and out of the house. Rubbing my arms to keep them warm as the morning air seemed freezing compared to the oven that I just slept in. Scanning the tree lines, searching for the tell tale sign of white and silver, half expecting Sesshomaru to be waiting, impatiently, for us to get a move on. Finding nothing, I step into the outhouse to take care of my own personal business, finding myself longing for indoor plumbing.
I don't think I spent more than five minutes in the bathroom before knocks on the door began, opening it to find a line of small children, shuffling awkwardly as they wait their turn.
"Sorry." I mutter and step to the side, suddenly very glad I woke up earlier than everyone else if only to avoid this line.
Earlier.. but not by much. The women of the house were already going about starting a breakfast, judging by the noises and smells coming from within the house. A part of me wants to go and help, feeling slightly like a mooch, but the part of me that just wants a little space wins, and I retreat to sit under a fruit tree, waiting for our next directions.
Passing the time by intently staring at the ground, murdering little blades of grass until Rin approaches and sits down next to me, handing over one of the two plates she is carrying.
"Thanks," I say with a smile as I take the plate of bread slices and eggs, a breakfast not too different than I would have at home.
"You're welcome," she replies with an innocent smile as she begins eating. She just seems so much younger and happier here. Sanyo and Miroku must've given her a pretty good life if this is how she lights up every time she visits. That little knowledge makes me smile right along with her.
We must've looked quite odd, smiling at our eggs as we ate in silence, cause we earned an odd look from the diayoukai that suddenly appeared from our right. He quirked his head and narrowed his eyes before dismissing our behavior and stated, "We are leaving. Gather your things."
"Yes, My Lord." Rin replies, still smiling, equally as happy to be leaving her home with her idol as she was to come visit. She grabs my plate without asking if I was finished and quickly hurried to the house to make a repeat of yesterday's group hugs, this time with sad whispers instead of high pitched squeals.
Once again, I stand in silence, watching the display, until Rin returns, accompanied by Miroku, who surprises me with a hug of my own. I stiffen for a moment, take a deep breath, then melt into his embrace, wrapping my arms back around him and trying not to cry or think that this might really be the last time I see him.
"Kagome, I'm sorry..." His voice is broken as he obviously also tries to hold back tears. "He was with me, with us. If we had made him feel more like a part of the family... if we had noticed how lonely he was..."
I bite down on my lower lip, my k-9 threatening to break the skin as I process this and realize that I'm not the only one blaming myself for what happened to Inuyasha. They all had been, and they had been living with the guilt for years instead of just days.
"Don't. You have nothing to be sorry for. This wasn't your fault. It wasn't." I'm really not sure what else to say. Nothing I can say will make his pain go away or make up for everything that as happened, so I do all that I can. I hug him tighter, resting my head on his shoulder and rubbing small circles over the thick rubs adorning his back.
It wasn't a second past us both calming down, breathing returning to normal instead of a near cry, that Sesshomaru laid a hand on my shoulder, signaling it was time to leave. We broke our embrace, exchanged a set of force smiles and without another word, I turned and headed to Ah-Un.
********************************It wasn't until the second day of us flying over random villages nestled between wilderness that the brilliant idea hit me. "Sesshomaru, why don't you just turn us into that ball thing you do and get us there quicker?"
Suddenly our quiet flight came to a halt as the diayoukai turned and looked at me like I had lost my mind.
I glance over to Rin, surely she would know what I meant, but I get an equally perplexed look from her.
"You know, the ball of light." It was about now that I started using my hands to show how big the light is from the times I remember seeing it, "Where you turn into light and fly really fast and... ugh" I sigh, loudly, to show my frustration as I can't seem to get the words out.
"I look like a ball of light?" Sesshomaru asks, seemingly with true interest.
Excited that he now gets what I'm trying to say I nod, "Of course, you do it, you know what it looks like, right?"
"How would I know what it looks like if I'm the one that does it?" He raises a brow and Rin giggles into her hand.
I facepalm. Of course, how would he know what it looks like from the outside if he is the one inside.. or is it.. or whatever he does. "I suppose you wouldn't. That aside, why don't we travel like that instead of like this?"
"It's not meant for so many and for that long of a distance." He answered, offering no further explanation as he pointed to a small clearing below us. "It will be dark soon. We shall rest there tonight."
It doesn't take us long to set up a makeshift camp and get a fire started. We've gotten pretty good at working as a team over the last few days, settling nicely into a routine and soon we are all sitting around the small fire as Rin goes through the packs saddled over the dragons back, searching for something to eat.
"There's not much left. Jerky and bread." She offers a piece to one of the dragons heads, he sniffs it and snorts all over it, showing his distaste for the dried meat. Rin holds the piece up, inspecting the damage done to it with a curled lip, not really sure what to do with the sneezed on chunk of meat.
"Let's go hunting?" I suggest before someone decides that we should eat the jerky in question.
Shessomaru grabs Ah-Un by the leads and heads out into the trees without saying a word. I shrug towards Rin and she happily tosses the meat over her shoulder and grabs her pack off the ground. Unfolding it and pulling her sword out from the leather, slipping it into her obi. She pats the side to make sure its securely in place then walks in the opposite direction that Sesshomaru had took Ah-Un.
Grabbing my bow, I scramble to catch up with her.
******************************
"There," Rin whispers, pointing to a squirrel climbing up the trunk of a tree. I nod, knowing what to do, I notch an arrow, take a second to aim, and release. The little creature makes a sudden squeak as the arrow pierces it, quickly going still.
Grinning with pride I run over and yank the arrow from the truck, with the squirrel still attached. My smile fades as I remember the first time I yanked an arrow from a tree and I look up at my companion, then back to our dinner. Working the arrow out of its body as I muse out loud, "Do you think we can save him?"
She smiles softly as she takes the catch, tying it's little foot to a line that already has our early catch of a rabbit on it, and lays it over her shoulder. "I'm not sure. We've already tried." She nods, gesturing back towards camp and we start walking. "But I understand you wanting to try. I don't know what it must be like to be in your situation. To be so deeply in love and to have to decide what you have to. If it was My Lord, I don't think I could ever give up trying..." She quickly bit her lip and went quiet.
I'm not sure why she tries to hide her feelings for Sesshomaru. Its been obvious she's love him since she was a child. Man, it's weird thinking back to remember this adult woman as a child. Time travel is odd. "You know, it's ok, to talk about him that way."
She visibly stiffens and shakes her head, "No, it's not. He is like a father and I am as his child. There is nothing 'okay' about it."
I open my mouth to rebut, but the way she is speaking, it's like a speech she has memorized and it dawns on me. She's repeating his words. He sees her as a child, his ward, and always will. It makes sense, I suppose it would've been creepy for him to go from viewing her as his child to suddenly being romantically interested in her, but.. she just loves him so much, I can't help but feel bad.
"Sorry, I just..." Her hand flying to my chest stops not my words, but myself dead in my tracks.
"Do you feel that?" Her other hand reaches for her sword, stance quickly turns into one that I've seen Sango hold hundreds of times, preparing for a fight.
I look around the dark woods, barely lit by the evening dusk. The hairs on back of my neck stand up, stomach turns and knots, the aura hits me.
"Zenaku," I whisper, clenching my bow in a white knuckled fist. "Is he far or just masking his presence?"
"I'm not certain." We both scan around, searching, frozen, not sure what to do. We weren't supposed to meet back up. I don't want to be forced to make a decision now. Not yet. We haven't gotten a descent plan together yet.
Suddenly my question is answered as the eerie feeling becomes overwhelming and we both snap our heads to the East, the opposite direction of camp and of Sesshomaru. He was masking it, he is close. Very close and coming closer.
I pull an arrow from my quiver.
