Miroku left the pack,
wandering around the grounds of the shrine. He was feeling a bit sad and above
all, he felt lonely. Inuyasha had taken Kagome as his mate and they had adopted
Shippou as their pup and had another on the way. Sango had found Sesshoumaru and
they was expecting a child too, and of course, they had little Rin also. But he
had none. He sighed a bit and sat down on the stairs to the shrine and looked up
into the darkening sky. “Perhaps I should not complain. I have wonderful
friends after all. And with this curse in my hand, I would not be wise to
involve myself with any woman. If I die, this curse will die with me.” His
mind clouded with the bitter thoughts of his destiny. He buried his face in his
hands and tried to stop the tears from falling but it was in vain, they fell.
**
Kagura sat on her magical
feather, in her lap laid her older sister Kanna, both were beaten bloody.
“Please my sister, hold on a little bit longer. I will find help for us.”
the wind witch thought and brushed a few stained strands of white hair from
Kanna’s face. But as her own consciousness began to slip, her feather lost its
power and they drifted down to earth.
**
Miroku was torn from his
pitiful state by the presence of a demon. He took hold of his staff and prepared
for battle. He was very surprised as he saw the feather of Kagura descend from
the heaven towards the temple ground. He realized this was no time for fight as
blood dropped down in front of his feet. Kagura had been badly wounded. He
rushed towards the bloody bundle of silk and hair. It was not only Kagura who
had been wounded, her eerie sister Kanna seemed to be in the same state.
“Fuck, they need help immediately.”
-
Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru!! he
yelled as loud as he could, knowing that the demon brothers were able to hear
him whisper from where he stood.
-
We are right here monk, said
Sesshoumaru and was ready to draw his sword.
-
Good, but relax, they are in no
condition to fight any of us, said Miroku with a stern voice. Please, help me
carry them to Kaede, they need our help.
-
Why should this Sesshoumaru help
the spawn of Naraku?
-
Because it is the right thing to
do, snarled Miroku. He was not sure why he reacted so strongly, but he wanted to
help the sisters if he was able to.
The brothers nodded, not
wanting to quarrel with the houshi. Inuyasha lifted up the pale form of Kanna
and almost flew down the stairs to Kaedes hut, Sesshoumaru was close behind with
Kagura in his arms. Miroku picked up the transformed little beaded feather and
placed in the folds of his robe.
Sango and Kagome took a
deep breathe as they saw their mates with the sisters. Kaede was up on her feet
in a few seconds, she began mixing herbs to use on their wounds. The girls
shooed out the men and helped the old miko to take of the ripped clothes of
Kagura and Kanna. Kagome began to cry as she saw their battered bodies; someone
had done a thorough work on them. Kagura held something tight in her hand but
when Sango tried to open her hand to get whatever it was she was met by a
whelping sound.
-
Let her hold it, it does not
matter, said Kaede and washed the wounds on the pale girl.
-
Ok, it just looked
uncomfortable, said Sango.
-
I think we got them here just in
time. Another hour and they would have been dead, said Kaede with a rough voice.
She was very bothered by the abused sight of the two demonesses.
The three women worked
hard to keep the sisters alive, it took them almost all night, but when the sun
began to dawn the skies, Kaede proclaimed them to be out of danger. Now they
only needed to sleep to regain their strength.
Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru
looked with confusion at the monk. He had been pacing around all night. He was
clearly worried about the wind witch and her older but younger looking eerie
sister.
-
Houshi-sama, please sit down and
have some saké, said Sesshoumaru who was beginning to tire of the monk’s pacing.
-
I can not; I need to know if
they are going to be alright, said Miroku with a raspy voice.
-
They are going to be just fine,
none of us youkais can smell death upon them, they are badly hurt yes, but they
will be ok. Trust me Miroku, said Inuyasha and put his clawed hand on his
friends shoulder and gently sat him down.
Miroku felt a little bit
comforted by the hanyou’s words, enough to sit down for a while anyway. “Why
am I acting like this? They have tried to kill us on numerous occasions, they
are our enemies. So why do I act like I care about them?” He took a deep sip
of the bottle of sake and felt the liquid burn its way down to his stomach.
Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru
watched as the monk drifted off to sleep and they let out a deep sigh.
**
Kagura awoke to feel a
cool hand wipe away her hair from her face. The soft touch was so tender that
she was not sure she had felt it at all. “I am still alive?” she asked
herself. She had been so sure she had died, but the throbbing pain in her body
told her that she was still alive. She opened her eyes only to be met by a
gentle smile. “The odd miko, the girl that Naraku fears so greatly. Where the
hell am I?” Kagura tried to move but was held back by the girl with the
gentle eyes.
-
Please Kagura-san, you are still
hurt. You have nothing to fear from us, just rest and regain your strength, said
Kagome and smiled.
-
Kanna?
-
She is going to fine too, but
you both had been seriously injured and you must be still and rest if you want
to heal properly.
-
She.. she is ok? Kagura felt a
wave of relief.
-
Yes, she is ok, she is still
sleeping and I think you should go back to sleep too. We will be watching over
you, no harm will befall you, said Kagome.
-
Thank you…
Kagura’s voice lost its
strength and she drifted off to sleep again.
Kagome was a bit stunned
by Kagura’s words. She would never have thought that the wind youkai cared so
much about her older sister Kanna, but she had been wrong. “Never judge a
book by its cover.” The little saying flew through her mind and she adjusted
the blankets for both sisters. She could relax a bit, they were going to be
fine, and they needed only to sleep now.
