Chapter 18: The Big Mistake
A/N: Dr. Dihn discovers that Kagome’s baby has inexplicably become infected with Aplastic Anemia, but while going over the paternity test results he discovers something else that is quite amazing to him.
Kagome looked at her tiny baby girl through the glass window of the intensive care unit that she had been placed in. A small smile formed on her lips as she watched the tiny girl sleeping. One of the doctors that had helped deliver Lyrie tapped Kagome’s shoulder. “Yes Dr. Dihn?”
“May I speak to you about something Ms. Nobunaga?”
“Certainly, what is it?”
“Come let’s go into my office so we can talk in private.” Kagome nodded and followed Dr. Dihn into his office. She sat down in one of the comfortable leather chairs in front of his desk.
“What did you need to speak with me about Dr. Dihn?”
“It’s about Lyrie.” Kagome’s blue gray eyes grew wide.
“What about Lyrie? Is there something wrong with her?”
“Yes I’m afraid there is a problem Ms. Nobunaga.”
“What’s wrong with her?”
“Upon running some blood tests on Lyrie to check her vitals it was discovered that she has inexplicably contracted Aplastic Anemia.”
“Aplastic what?”
“Aplastic Anemia.”
“What the hell is that?”
“It’s a rare illness in which quantities of all three blood cell types is much lower than normal. What that means is that Lyrie doesn’t have as many platelets, red blood cells, or white blood cells in her body as she should.”
“So what’s going to happen to her?P>
P>“Well some of the symptoms that can occur are unexplainable infections, unexpected bleeding, fatigue, bruising, fever, shortness of breath, and abnormal paleness of the skin.”
“So what do we do?”
“Aplastic Anemia can either be treated by platelet transfusions and that reduces the high risk of her suffering a fatal hemorrhage. Or drug therapies may also be used.”
“Such as?”
“The two most common drugs used to treat this illness are ALG, ATG, Cyclosporine which are immunosuppressive drugs. The other type is Cyclophosphamide which is a growth factor. It helps to stimulate the body’s marrow to produce red blood cells.”
“So how do you plan on treating Lyrie?”
“Well I’m afraid that Lyrie is far too young to use drug therapy on. So it would be best to have a platelet transfusion.”
“So then I’ll be her donor.”
“I’m afraid it’s not that simple, you see the donor has to be tested to be sure that they’re a perfect match.” Kagome stood to leave the office. “Ms. Nobunaga?”
“Yes Dr. Dihn?”
“I had one other thing I wished to inform you of.”
“What is it?”
“The results of the paternity test that was ordered before Lyrie was born.”
“What about them?”
It seems that the test results were incorrectly read.”
“What?!”
“Yes it seems that you were told a Mr. Sesshomaru Nobunaga was Lyrie’s father. When in fact it has been Mr. Inuyasha Nobunaga all along.”
“Oh my God! Are you serious?”
“Absolutely Ms. Nobunaga.”
“Please excuse me Dr. Dihn, I have to speak to my ex-husband right away.”
“Certainly. We will do the testing to find a suitable donor for Lyrie’s platelet transfusion this afternoon.” Kagome nodded and hurried back out into the hall outside of Lyrie’s room. She pulled out her cell phone and quickly dialed Inuyasha’s number.
“Inuyasha Nobunaga.”
“Inuyasha!”
“Kagome, what’s up?”
“I need you to come to the hospital right away!”
“Is Lyrie okay?”
“She’s fine, but hurry!”
“I’m on my way angel.” They hung up and Kagome leaned her head against thess wss window to Lyrie’s room. She debated on whether or not she should call Sesshomaru. He was in an important board meeting that his father insisted he attend.
‘ I don’t want Sesshomaru to cause a scene with Inuyasha here at the hospital. Maybe I’ll call him a little later and have him meet me for dinner somewhere.’ Inuyasha arrived at the hospital quickly and found Kagome standing in the hall outside Lyrie’s room.
“Hey honey, what’s up?”
“I have good news and bad news.”
“Tell me the bad news first.”
“Lyrie has been diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia.”
“Is there anything we can do?”
“Yes, we’re already in the process of deciding how to treat her condition.”
“What’s the good news then?”
“It turns out there was a mistake on the results of the paternity test.” His amber eyes grew wide.
“You mean....Kagome are you saying.....”
“That Lyrie is your little girl Inuyasha! You’re her father, not Sesshomaru!” Inuyasha picked Kagome up and squeezed her tightly.
“Oh God Kagome, do you have any idea how much I had been praying to hear those words? I wanted Lyrie to be mine so bad! It killed me when the nurse said that Sesshomaru was Lyrie’s father!”
“I know.”
“So does Sesshomaru know about this?”
“Do I know about what little brother?” Kagome practically jumped out of Inuyasha’s arms upon hearing Sesshomaru’s silken voice.
“Uh Sesshomaru, what are you doing here darling?”
“Well I came to see my little girl.” Inuyasha scowled at his older brother’s words. “Now Kagome, what is it that Inuyasha knows but I do not?”
“Uh.....well....I...”
“Don’t stall kitten, you know I have no tolerance for such nonsense.”
“Sesshomaru, come sit in the hospital’s chapel with me?” He nodded and offered his arm to her. Inuyasha turned around to watch his little girl as she lay there sleeping. Kagome slid into a chair in the chapel and Sesshomaru quickly joined her.
“What’s going on Kagome?”
“Well Lyrie has Aplastic Anemia.”
“So is that why Inuyasha was hugging you?”
“Well no, not exactly.”
“What the hell are you talking about Kagome?”
“Sessho, we’re in a chapel!”
“Sorry, now tell me what’s going on!”
“Alright. Dr. Dihn informed me that the results of the paternity test were read incorrectly.”
“Meaning what exactly?”
“Meaning that you’re not really Lyrie’s father, Inuyasha is.”
“What?”
“Inuyasha is Lyrie’s father, I’m sorry Sesshomaru.”
“So our little baby girl isn’t really mine after all?”
“No.”
“I see. I suppose that now you’ll be reconsidering your divorce to Inuyasha?”
“No. Sesshomaru, I love you, just because it turns out that Lyrie is mine and Inuyasha’s baby doesn’t change how I feel.”
“So what do we do about her illness?”
“We each have to get tested to see if we’re a suitable match for a platelet transfusion for Lyrie.”
“Alright, let’s get that over with.” Kagome and Sesshomaru walked back to the hall where Inuyasha was standing looking at Lyrie through the window. “Congratulations little brother, she’s beautiful.”
“I know. Thank you Sesshomaru.” Dr. Dihn joined the group in the hallway.
“So are we prepared to proceed with the testing?” Kagome nodded. “Then let’s go into the lab down the hall.” The three followed Dr. Dihn into the lab where they were instructed to have a seat. Three nurses quickly began preparing to take blood samples.
After having their blood drawn Dr. Dihn addressed Kagome once more. “Now the results won’t be back until late this evening Ms. Nobunaga. So tomorrow we will meet to find out who is the perfect donor for Lyrie.”
“Thank you Dr. Dihn.” The three walked to the hallway to check on Lyrie once more. She was still sleeping so they decided to go grab a quick bite to eat. Sesshomaru and Kagome followed Inuyasha to a nearby pizza cafe. They sat at a booth in the back corner and waited for their pizza. Sesshomaru watched as Inuyasha and Kagome kept the conversation going at the table. He gritted his teeth as he bit back a snide remark pointed towards Inuyasha. Sesshomaru didn’t know how much longer he could sit through Kagome and Inuyasha’s annoying closeness.
He quickly wolfed down his pizza and glanced down at his watch. Feigning surprise at what time it was he pulled out his wallet. “Please excuse me Kagome, I’m late for an important meeting with a client that nearly slipped my mind.”
“But Sesshomaru, you drove me here.”
“Don’t worry Kagome, I can take you back to your car.”
“Oh thanks Inu, that would be great!” Sesshomaru growled inwardly as he forced a smile.
‘ Yes, thanks for trying so hard to get back into Kagome’s arms you little bastard!’ Sesshomaru quickly left the two sitting at the table and hurried out to his car. He pulled out of the parking lot and took off. Sesshomaru wasn’t exactly sure where he was headed he just knew he had to get away from Kagome and Inuyasha. He soon found himself back at his office at Tensega Corporation pouring himself a generous glass of brandy from the bottle he kept in his bottom drawer at his desk. Sesshomaru sat sulking over his glass of brandy which he gulped down rather quickly. He poured yet another glass of brandy and drained it immediately. Still not feeling the desired effect he grabbed the bottle of brandy and lifting it to his mouth he turnedup tup towards the ceiling.
He closed his amber eyes feeling the brandy burn a searing path down his throat. Sesshomaru had polished off over half the bottle of brandy and was beginning to feel the effects of the extremely potent liquor. ‘ Damn my bastard little brother for being Lyrie’s father! Kagome will most likely go back to him now. Damn it! Damn myself for even loving her to begin with!’ Suddenly Sesshomaru’s young secretary Rin entered his office.
She was dressed in a white button down shirt and a very short navy blue mini skirt that hugged her backside perfectly. Rin walked over to place some invoices on his desk when he grabbed her waist. “Oh Sesshomaru!”
Hello Rin.” She could smell the strong scent of brandy on his breath and knew right away he was drunk. Sesshomaru snaked a hand up between Rin’s thighs and found she wasn’t wearing any panties. He slipped two long thick fingers inside her tight body and began exploring her.
“Sesshomaru, you’re drunk.”
“I amI am.”
“Are you sure this is really a good idea?”
“Look Rin, I’m drunk and I wanna fuck. So do you want it or not?”
“Sesshomaru please, think about what you’re saying, if Kagome finds out-”
“She won’t, now go lock the door!” Sesshomaru released his hold on Rin and she reluctantly obeyed his request. She knew that nothing good was going to come of Sesshomaru’s drunken state. Sesshomaru pulled his throbbing erection from his pants. “On your knees Rin.” She nodded and knelt before him underneath his desk. Rin took Sesshomaru’s length into her mouth and immediately began to orally pleasure him. Sesshomaru tangled his fingers in Rin’s thick ebony tresses and tilted his head back as she sucked his engorged length. His mood was already beginning to greatly improve from what it had been just moments earlier.
