Chapter 17
Time flew by quickly, and before Kagome knew it, it was the Friday before the wedding. Everything had been planned perfectly. It was actually easier then everyone thought it would be. The fact that Kagome’s family lived in a shrine that they could hold it in was a big factor in making it so easy. Her grandfather had agreed to preside over the event, and her mother had taken over all the small details like decorations, food, and seating. It also helped that Mrs. H had insisted that Kagome wear her old wedding kimono. Sota had talked Inuyasha into wearing the old fire rat robes, so that was taken care of too. And the fact that everyone that they were going to invite had been apart of the planning, so they wouldn’t have to send out invitations, was a huge help. Then there was the fact that Ayame had agreed to take the pictures. She had taken lessons years ago, and had been thinking of going into it as a job. She was really quite good at it.
Kagome was sitting in her old room at the house right now. Her mother had insisted on the old tradition of the bride and groom not seeing each other before the wedding, so Kagome was going to be staying at the shrine, while Inu was going back to the mansion.
“Kagome!” Sota yelled from down stairs. “Supper is ready!”
“Thanks Sota!”
Kagome hurried down the stairs. Her mother had agreed to make her favorite tonight. So that meant… ODEN!
It didn’t take long for the family to finish up, and Kagome was too tired to stay downstairs with them like she normally would have. As soon as Mrs. H saw how weary her daughter was, she had insisted on Kagome going up to bed. She didn’t want her daughter to have black circles under her eyes the next day.
Kagome made her way to her room, thinking of weather to take a bath or not. She knew she wouldn’t be able to sleep well. She never seemed to if Inu wasn’t in bed with her. Maybe a bath would relax her enough to be able to sleep.
As she made the decision to take one, she opened her door. When she looked into her dark room, she let out a small squeak of surprise. There was someone in the room, and she knew it wasn’t one of her family members.
“Shh!” the shadow hissed. “Do you want to let your mother know I’m here?”
Kagome knew that voice!! It was Inu!!
She quickly shut her door and turned on a light, then looked at the man she loved.
“What are you doing here?” Kagome hissed. “My mother will kill you if she found out!”
“Then don’t tell her! I came because I don’t sleep well if I don’t have you to hold….” Kagome couldn’t help but smile. “And I knew you wouldn’t want bags under my eyes tomorrow… so here I am.”
“I’m actually glad you’re here,” Kagome said. “I don’t sleep very well with out you either, and was just going to have a bath to try to relax enough to try to bear it.” Then Kagome cocked her head to the side. “But what are you talking about, having bags under your eyes? I thought you didn’t need a lot of sleep because of your demon blood.”
Inu shrugged. “I’ve gone a week now without any sleep, if I don’t get some tonight, I’m not sure I’ll make it through the wedding with out falling asleep.”
Kagome laughed. “As long as your gone before Mama comes in the morning to wake me, then I have no problem. I’ll just change into my PJ’s and then we can go to bed. But you have to promise to be out of here in the morning! If my mother catches you, we’re both dead meat!”
Inu nodded his head and started to gat undressed himself. He knew they would only be sleeping tonight, so was going to sleep in his boxers. Kagome just smiled as Inu got into her bed, then grabbed her night gown out of her bag and got it on.
Inu pulled the covers down as Kagome crawled in next to him. At least they knew that tonight they would be getting a good night’s sleep.

Kagome was pulled from her sleep by her mother shaking her shoulder. The first thought that came to her mind was how much trouble she was going to be in for having Inuyasha in the bed with her. With that thought in mind, Kagome sat up with a jolt.
“Sorry Mama!” Kagome blurted out. “I didn’t mean for it to happen, it was much a shock to me as it is to you!”
Mrs. H had a confused look on her face. “Why are you apologizing Kagome? I told you I’d wake you up this morning, so it’s my fault that we’re a little late.”
Kagome blushed as she took a look around the room. Apparently Inuyasha had left before her mother came into the room, just like she had asked.
“I’m sorry Mama, it was the dream I was having.”
Mrs. H just smiled. “That’s alright dear. Now, breakfast is on the table, and Rin, Sango, and Kaiya should be here soon to help you get ready. So why don’t you just go down in your night gown and get eating, then when the girls get here we’ll get started. This way we won’t get anything on the clothes you have packed.”
Kagome smiled. “Sounds good, Mama.”
Mrs. H got up and walked to the door, Kagome following right behind her. It didn’t surprise Kagome when she saw the feast her mother had prepared for her. There was enough food there to feed a family of ten.
“Why all the food Mama?” Kagome asked none the less, as she sat down at the table.
“I thought your friends might like some. I don’t think they’ll have time to eat before they get here. Didn’t you tell me that Rin had two kids? I’m sure she was too busy starting to get them ready to worry about eating. I’m sure I told her to bring the kids with her, and I remembered how much Inuyasha can eat, and just thought I’d prepare for them to want some too.”
“That’s nice of you Mama, but I think Kano will want to stay with the guys. Rin may bring Etsu so she doesn’t bug them as they get ready. But I don’t think she’ll be eating a lot. Though, come to think of it, I’ve never seen her eat a meal. Kano and Etsu usually eat earlier in the morning then the rest on of on the weekends. And during the week, Rin keeps Etsu in her room while the others leave or else she’ll try to go with them.”
“What about lunch and dinner?”
Kagome shrugged. “Inu and I are usually out during lunch on weekends, so we don’t eat at the house. And a lot of the time Sango’s oldest daughter, Kane, has the kids over at he place anyway. As far as dinner is concerned, Etsu eats a lot earlier then us since she has to be in bed so early.”
Mrs. H smiled. “Makes sense I guess.”
The door bell rang, and before Kagome could even think to get up to get it, her mother was shouting for the girls to just come right in. With loud talking and arguing, Rin, Sango, Kaiya, and Etsu entered the kitchen.
“Hi girls,” Mrs. H said. “Would you like to eat? I made enough for everyone.”
Kaiya’s eye lit up with joy. “Wow! I’ll be more then happy to help put a dent in that.”
Sango shook her head at her daughter. “You ate before we left. How could you still be hungry?”
Kaiya shrugged as she sat down at the table. “I don’t know… I’m a growing girl, I need my vittles!”
Rin laughed as she put Etsu in a chair. “I swear she got her eating habits form Inu. I told you to not let her spend so much time with the guys growing up!”
Sango shrugged as she started to fill her plate. “What was I going to do? Tell her to stop being a tom boy? I was one, and I’m still shocked that the other two weren’t!”
Kaiya grinned. “That was Rin’s influence.”
“Thank you for the food Mrs. Higurashi,” Sango said.
“Yes,” Rin said as she made a dish or her daughter. “Thank you for thinking of us while you made this lovely meal. I sometimes think Etsu will never get enough food in her belly when I watch her eat. She’s as bad as Kaiya and Inu. But then I think it runs in the family. Sess sometimes gets that way too, and if I were to let him, Kano would never leave the table.”
Kagome giggled. She knew she was going to love being apart of this family.

It didn’t take as long as Kagome had thought it would to get ready for the wedding. And the ceremony itself seemed to just fly by. Before Kagome knew it, Ayame was taking pictures of the newly married couple in front of the god tree.
“Well,” Inu asked as he looked down at Kagome with a smile on his lips, “how does it feel to be married?”
Kagome grinned. “I don’t feel any different…how about you?”
Inu shook his head. “Nope, still the same old Inuyasha here.”
“Good,” Kagome said with a kiss, “cause that’s the one I wanted.”
