Chapter 18 - Traveling in Mixed Company
Chapter 18 - Traveling in Mixed Company
“Ohayou Mistress,” Sesshomaru’s velvet voice cut through the early morning darkness.
Kagome yawned, as lady-like as one could yawn, and said, “Ohayou Sesshomaru.” She stretched a bit before gathering herself to stand. Sesshomaru had apparently been awake, and was dressed to depart. Kagome jumped at the knock on their door.
Sesshomaru slid the door open and a young boy warily handed him a tray fruits and rice. “Well Mistress, it appears that breakfast is served.”
Kagome clapped her hands in delight. This was much better than jerky and stale rice.
Sesshomaru found her reaction delightfully refreshing, and settled down with her to partake of the meal. He needed to hunt, but did not feel comfortable leaving Kagome alone in this village. He would wait until the evening, when they were away from the village.
Kagome quickly finished off her yummy foods and stood to prepare to depart. She sent Sesshomaru to reward the innkeep for the refreshing stay, and took the time to gather her clothing and comb through her unruly hair.
Sesshomaru came back swiftly and reported that the miko Kikyo and her Protector awaited them outside. The innkeep sent their horses around and Sesshomaru helped Kagome into the saddle.
Inuyasha watched his brother assist this new miko with a tenderness that was simply out of character for the full demon. Further surprising was when the miko mounted the horse as if she were a man, straddling the beast. He almost laughed out loud at Kikyo’s startled look. The miko Kagome was certainly interesting. He wondered how his brother came to be in her possession.
Sesshomaru gracefully pulled himself into the saddle and pulled out. He led the group, and Kagome didn’t mind. It helped him in his position. He wouldn’t tell her, but riding behind her was a serious distraction. Her bouncing derriere, was too delightful to take his eyes from. Walking beside her, allowed a superb view of her supple bouncing bosom, also drawing his attention, which could result in a dangerous situation. Dangerous from an attack? Perhaps.
Kagome and Kikyo fell into light conversation, discussing family and friends. Kagome was enjoying having a companion to pass the time. She glanced back at Inuyasha, who was riding just behind Kikyo. She thought he was staring at her, but maybe she was wrong. He wasn’t very talkative either. She wondered if it was a family trait.
Kagome learned that Kikyo was an archer as well. She openly admired Kagome’s bow and quiver. Kagome praised Sango for the gift.
Suddenly Kagome’s horse began to limp. The group pulled up to check out the little mare’s problem. Sesshomaru pulled the leg up, and discovered that a stone had worked the shoe loose a bit. No problem to fix... if they weren’t in the middle of nowhere.
“Kagome, you may ride with me,” Kikyo added helpfully.
Before Kagome could thank her, Sesshomaru cut her off. “She will ride with me.”
Kagome was befuddled for a moment. She started to chastise him for making the decision for her, but the look in his eyes, cut off the words before they were spoken. She looked apologetically to Kikyo, and said, “Arigato Kikyo, but I’m sure Sesshomaru would feel better able to protect me if I rode with him.” That seemed to appease the young woman, and Kagome followed Sesshomaru to his mount.
He slipped into the saddle and leaned down, easily pulling Kagome up to straddle the saddle behind him. Sesshomaru wasn’t really thinking when he said that Kagome would ride with him. He just didn’t want her so close to someone they just met. He still had not decided if he could trust the miko Kikyo yet. She did travel with his brother, so that was a mark against her character already.
The taiyoukai did not count of the sudden burst of heat from his little miko’s body as it was pressed against his back. Her dainty little legs rubbed against the back of his thighs, and curses to hell he could even feel her breasts moving against his back with every step of the horse. ‘Damnation this is going to be a long trip.’ As if the feel of her pressed so closely wasn’t enough, the scent of her arousal suddenly filled his nose, and he felt like he could just fall off his steed. His hand found it’s way to rest on her thigh, as if to help her steady herself, but really the appendage had a mind of it’s own. It sneaked back to her fleshy thigh of it’s own accord. Once there it felt so nice, that he was lax to move it again.
Inuyasha took this whole scene in with amused interest. So, his brother had also picked up a taste from father. What a hoot. The human hating bastard was smitten by his mistress, and apparently she was smitten in return. The heady scent of her arousal floated through the air, and filled his head, making it hard to concentrate. He was sure at that moment that Sesshomaru was not concentrating on anything except the warm little bundle snuggled up to his back. ‘Oh this is rich! I believe I can have a little fun with these two.’
