Chapter 18
Kagome shot up and quickly changed
into her battle attire before Sesshomaru could even
blink.
“What’s going on?” he asked starting
to get up.
“Kagura,
she’d over the field. Reinforce your
barrier around the castle so she can’t find it or sense any of you,” Kagome
said starting to the window.
“Where are you going?” he asked
grabbing her arm.
“She’s going to lower herself in the
field. Either way she will find
something out, if I leave the barrier she will hit it, if I remove it she will pick
up our scents, so reinforce the barrier around the castle so she can’t find
it. I will take care of her.”
Before Sesshomaru
could protest she had already jumped out the window from the second story
room. He ran to the window to see her
land lightly on her feet and run out the gate to the field. He reinforced the barrier then dressed to
follow her.

Kagome
dropped the barrier then ran out to the field from the forest to divert Kagura’s attention from where the castle was. Kagura spotted her and
lowered to the ground. Kagome watched
her descend and sensed Sesshomaru coming. She quickly threw up a shield to block him
and focused on Kagura.
“So little miko, where’s your friends?” Kagura
asked smirking.
“Oh, they’re
in the forest, but you won’t be able to find them, Kagura,
sorry.”
“So the
little miko wants to play.”
Kagome
watched Kagura and could see the pain Naraku had put her through.
“Look Kagura, I know you hate Naraku
and I don’t blame you. You can leave now
without me hurting you and tell Naraku that we will
see him soon, or you can fight me and I will try not to kill you.”
“Impudent
bitch, like you could hurt me,” Kagura yelled even
though she was worried after the condition Naraku had
come back in last time.
Kagome just
smirked at her, she could feel Sesshomaru
trying to break the shield holding him in place. Kagura wanted to
just leave and give Naraku the message and see if the
miko could really help her, but she knew he would not
like that. She had no choice she had to
attack.
“Dance of
blades!”
Kagome stuck
out her hand and batted away the blades like they were nothing. Kagura watched
completely shocked. How had this miko suddenly become powerful enough to block her attack?
“Dance of the Dragon!”
She watched
the twister spin toward the miko and smirked. The girl just stood there, must be too scared
to move. The twister surrounded the girl
and Kagura laughed, but it was cut short though when
the twister disappeared. The girl stood
in the same spot completely untouched.
“Why aren’t
you dead?” Kagura yelled in anger.
How was it the miko had managed to
emerge from the attack completely unscathed?
It was impossible. Kagura shook in fear and anger.
“Kagura did Naraku not tell you
why he returned in the state he did after the last fight?” Kagura
froze at those words, “I was the one who dealt the blow that destroyed his
body.”
Kagura’s eyes
widened in shock. The miko had done that? But how? Even Kagura could sense that her aura had not changed and yet it
had to have changed for her to survive her attacks. Kagura raised her
fan and attacked again using both attacks at once, she had to do
something. When the dust cleared from
the attacks the girl still stood.
“My turn,”
Kagome said smirking.
She reached
up to the sky and clouds started to form.
Kagura watched frozen as the clouds darkened
in the sky.
“Now try my
twister, Kagura,” Kagome yelled.
The wind
started to howl and a twister in the form of a dragon swept down straight
toward Kagura.
Kagura was frozen to the spot, only managing
to put her hands up at the last second.
She screamed as the twister surrounded her, throwing her body around and
cutting into her skin. After what seemed
an eternity the twister disintegrated and Kagura fell
to the ground.
She pushed
herself up to her knees and glared at the miko. Her mind was working overtime trying to
figure out what just happened. She
slowly stood to face the miko. Kagome stood without moving her eyes never
leaving Kagura.
“I would
suggest you leave. Give Naraku my message.
You look injured enough that it shouldn’t warrant punishment. In the final battle if you stay out of the
way I can save you as long as you promise to stop your evil ways.”
“Miko if you could save me then I would owe you a life debt,
but I have to ask, can you save my sister Kanna as
well?”
“Yes.”
“Then you
have a deal, unless Naraku hears this conversation,
then I will be punished and possibly killed.”
“He won’t
hear of it, the only thing Kanna’s mirror or any of
his insects will show is us fighting and you leaving. He will know nothing of what happened other than the fight.”
“Very well miko, I will try to stay out of the way with Kanna during the final battle,” Kagura
said holding out her hand.
Kagome stuck
out her hand and they shook on the deal, “When the battle comes pull Kanna aside and hide, I will figure out the rest.”
Kagura nodded and crawled back onto her feather to
leave. She had to admit the miko’s attack had caused enough damage without hitting
anything major. She didn’t know how, but
the girl had planned this. Then Kagura remembered what the girl had said before the fight,
she had said she would try not to hurt her too bad or kill her. Kagura rose to the
sky with a newfound respect for the girl.
Kagome
waited until Kagura was gone from sight before
releasing the shield around Sesshomaru. He was by her side in a second a mixture of
anger and concern on his face. He looked
her over to make sure that Kagura’s attacks had not
caused any damage before pulling her into his arms.
“What were
you thinking? Why didn’t you let me come
help you?” he asked.
“I needed to
talk to her one on one and I may have just changed part of the future. Besides if you had come out of the gate then
she would have known that there was another barrier there.”
“You scared
me, don’t do that again.”
“No
promises.”
He groaned
in frustration then decided to change the subject.
“So how do
you think you might have changed the future?”
Kagome
smirked and told him about the deal she had made with Kagura.
“How could
you make a deal with her? She works for
him?”
“Not by
choice, he holds her heart forcing her to do what he wants. She just wants to be free of him,” Kagome
said hugging him.
He sighed
and held her close, he knew he could trust her.
“Come, let’s
go back to bed,” he said picking her up and carrying her back to their room.

Kagura flew back to Naraku’s
castle. She would definitely keep her
word to the miko, she just hoped that all Naraku
could see was the fight like Kagome said.
She lowered herself once within the walls and limped inside. She quickly located Naraku
and bowed.
“So you
found them?” Naraku said taking in her injuries.
“Just the miko, she is hiding the rest somehow. We fought, but all she said was that they would
see you soon,” Kagura replied her eyes never leaving
the floor.
“So she is
hiding them all and there is no way we could find them until they are
ready. Very well, go clean yourself up
and then make sure that the castle is well guarded and prepared for any
attack.”
“Yes, master
Naraku,” Kagura said rising
and slowly limping from the room.
Once in the
hallway she couldn’t help but let a small smile reach her lips. The miko was right
he didn’t punish her, maybe this plan would work after all. For once Kagura
allowed herself to hope. She hoped that
it all worked out, they could kill Naraku and then
free her and Kanna.
Of course then she would owe Kagome a life debt for both her and Kanna, but somehow she didn’t think she would mind.
She went to
the bath house and cleaned up enjoying the hot water. She didn’t know how long she stayed in there,
she only decided to get out when one of Naraku’s
insects came in sending her the mental message to get out and attend to the
guards. She got dressed and went around
the castle talking to the demons that were guards, not that it was necessary, Naraku had a strong
barrier surrounding the castle.
When she was
done she went to her room to get some rest.
She needed to heal and rest would help with that. She lay down on the bed and was drifting off
within minutes of her head hitting the pillow.

Kagome slept in Sesshomaru’s
arms and he was glad to find that she was sleeping peacefully this time. He pulled her closer and nuzzled her hair
taking in her calm scent as he drifted off.
They both slept peacefully through the night even though they knew the
time was drawing near for the final battle.
They were just happy to take comfort in the arms of the one they loved
for now.
They woke up the next morning completely
rested despite the interruption last night.
They even made it down to join the others for breakfast. After breakfast Sesshomaru
stood out in the garden watching Kagome play with the kids.
“Mommy sing
one of your songs,” Shippo asked excitedly happy to
have his mother playing with him so early today.
Maybe she would spend the whole day
with them.
“OK let me go get my CD player and I
will sing you the new one I’ve been working on,” Kagome said running inside to
grab the player.
She was back out within a minute and
placed the CD player on the ground and putting the CD in. Sesshomaru watched
curious about the strange machine.
Kagome put the CD to the right track then sat both kids down under a
tree before hitting play on the machine.
The odd tone of the music drew everyone over to watch.

Shippo
was bouncing up and down, he loved techno the best. Kagome went over and picked up both kids and
started dancing with them.

“Well that was interesting. I have definitely never heard music like that
before, but I liked it. You even drew
everyone out to hear you.”
“Sorry if I interrupted their
duties.”
“It’s fine, I can understand how
they couldn’t resist your singing,” he said smiling and giving her a quick
kiss.
Both of the
children giggled, “Does this mean that you and daddy will spend the day with
us,” Shippo asked, not catching the fact that he had
just called Sesshomaru daddy.
Both Kagome and Sesshomaru
looked at each other in shock before Kagome smiled and turned back to them, “I
don’t see why not, your father made a breakthrough yesterday and I made a deal
that could be very helpful. We can spend
one day with the two of you.”
Both kids cheered and Shippo jumped from Kagome’s arms and into Sesshomaru’s to give him a big hug. Sesshomaru was
surprised by the gesture, but happy at the same time. Of course after they destroyed Naraku he would have to start training the kit, but for now
he would enjoy the playful child the kit was.
