Chapter 186 - The Rabbit
*Promenade* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)
"Excuse me, Lady Kagome," a blond demoness wearing a green sash said as she approached the miko, who was sitting in the library reading a book on miko.
"Yes?"
"I am sorry for not having introduced myself earlier. I am Hana, the head servant."
"Very nice to meet you," Kagome said with a bright smile. "Did you need something?"
"Yes, Amime asked me to fetch you. She needs you for a fitting. If you would like to go now, I can lead you."
"Thanks," Kagome said with a slight blush. "I haven't figured out where everything is yet. I can find her from the main entrance, but not from here."
"I can sympathize. When I first came to the palace, I got lost nearly every day."
"Oh? How long have you been here?" the miko asked curiously. The pair began to talk as they walked through the palace. How did one become the head servant at the Western stronghold anyway? Surely she had to have been there for a long time.
"Nearly three centuries now," Hana replied with a smile.
"Wow! You must know everyone, then. Maybe you can help me in my search for the perfect nanny."

"I would be honored to assist you. Lord Sesshoumaru already had me put out the word that you are looking, and I know you sent out a great many scrolls. At the very least, I can tell you what I know about the candidates from the palace."
"If there are better candidates here than Kyou, why was she Rin's nanny to begin with?"
"I am sorry that she was rude to the children, my Lady. She seemed perfect for the position when I assigned it to her. I promise you, I had no idea about her attitude. She was fairly new here at the palace. There are several young women who I know would like to apply. Some only wish to do so because they see it as an easy job. Others wish to elevate their position here, but there are a few who genuinely love children that may be a better fit. Rin's humanity continues to be a problem with some of the older demons, but the younger are, for the most part, more open-minded."
"And then there's the ones who think Sesshoumaru should be mating an inu."
"Indeed, there are, but you have nothing to worry about. None would dare cause you harm. They know the penalty would be worse than death. Mostly, the servants are relived to discover that you are nothing like our former Lady."
"Yeah, she was a piece of work, huh? I don't see any reason for treating people badly. Everyone deserves kindness and respect."

"And that belief sets your apart. You will do very well here, Lady Kagome."
"Thank you. If you don't mind my asking, what kind of demon are you? I've noticed that most of the servants are inu, but I can't quite place what you are."
Hana smiled. "I am a rabbit demon, my Lady, and I became head servant partly because of my natural quickness. We have arrived."
"Oh! That was quick! Thank you so much, Hana."
"Do you wish for me to wait so that I can lead you back?"
"No, I'm good. I have to figure this out on my own some time."
"As you wish, my Lady. Please, do not hesitate to send for me if you need anything. I am to be your right hand in the running of the palace. Anything you want done, I will ensure it happens, and quickly."
Kagome smiled and nodded "Thanks again," she chimed before knocking and letting herself into Amime's workshop. She was eager to see how her surprise was turning out.
