Bitter Blood
Chapter 2
"That's a good name," Rin smiled. "Just as regal as his father's."
He nodded and smiled, still holding Daichi above his head.
"I should hope my lord husband won't spoil him as much as he spoiled me."
"It is my right."
She smiled at the pair of them. He didn't take his eyes from his son, and Daichi, for his
part, remained silent and asleep. He was everything she'd hoped for-healthy, happy and just as
handsome as her husband. He was a fine mix of both their heritages. Sesshomaru's hair, eyes,
pointy ears and claws; her complexion, her smile, her will to live.
She didn't trouble her lord with how he'd nearly been strangled by the umbilical cord.
And how quiet and blue he was when he first came out. It was Kagome that had breathed life
into him. She gave back to him what was nearly lost. Just as Sesshomaru had given her what
she'd lost–a happy life.
She sniffed back tears and forced a smile, the pair seemingly oblivious to her presence in
the room. It was their future he now held in his hands. And she felt as if she would die from
happiness, her heart bursting from joy. "I am happy that my lord is so pleased," she finally said.
"When has my lady ever displeased me?"
She could feel some color returning to her face.
"Did you take the medicine the woman prescribed?"
"Hmm?" she snapped out of her daydream. "Oh, yes," she nodded.
"She said you shouldn't walk around much, and no stairs."
She nodded again. "I think I remember her saying that."
"And I'll have someone come in to look after you and Daichi. A nursemaid."
"A nursemaid," she laughed softly to herself. "What's wrong with Jakken?" she asked.
He smiled as if amused. "Jakken? With children? Do you really think that's a wise
choice?”
She thought back to her own childhood in the castle. Jakken was always yelling or
cursing or threatening her. He never would have raised a hand to her, or hurt her, of course, but
she supposed he did have the wrong temperament for child-rearing. She laughed in spite of
herself. She had run Jakken quite ragged. "I think a nursemaid would be ideal," she said. "At
least till I'm back on my feet." She winced as she attempted to sit up a little.
"Are you in pain?"
She shook her head. "A little. It's entirely bearable, though."
"You shouldn't strain yourself. The woman said to give yourself time to heal."
"I don't wanna turn cartwheels; I just wanna sit up a little. It's uncomfortable laying in
the same position for so long."
He laid Daichi back down by her side, and helped her sit up, fluffing the pillows behind
her. "Better?" he asked.
"Much."
"I'll make the arrangements, then," he said. "And I'll have Jakken bring your meal up."
"I'm really not hungry," she shook her head. "I just wanna take a little rest, right now.
Maybe something later?"
"You should eat to keep up your strength," he said.
"I know. I just don't have much of an appetite." She laughed to herself. "I have no
doubt that tomorrow it will be back with a vengeance, though. Maybe just some tea for right
now? Or some water?"
He nodded in reply. "I'll return later," he said. "And I'll have Jakken dispose of the
linens when he brings your tea."
She nodded her agreement, then allowed herself to drift off.
"Be well," he said.
She smiled then slipped into unconsciousness.
