Please Save Me from Myself
Chapter 2
She was floating. Her body hurt like she amerced in thousands of needles. She
felt nothing but the incredible pain.
Was she dead? Did the wish work? All she remembered was Inuyasha’s anguished
cry for Kikyo. A spark of sadness…so he did love Kikyo after all. She wished
for the priestess to come back with a new soul so that she could give her
hanyou what she could not…happiness…
Her smile was bitter…after all, she could never measure up to Kikyo with hpowepowers or with her looks…
But soon, the pain was washing those thoughts away. The pain came from her body
and now, it seemed, from her heart. Pretty soon, she could not even remember
what she was thinking of in the first place. And then a voice…
“Why? Why would you give your life for them?” She felt numb. Her lips were
sealed. She could not answer that beautiful voice. Her life? So she was
dead…and then something was happening, she felt suddenly stronger but
weaker…hotter but cooler…nothing was the same anymore. Her hearing intensified
and she heard that voice whispering…
“This Sesshoumaru is in your debt…” It was so quiet, she barely heard
him. Sesshoumaru? Her mind was thrumming…Sesshoumaru…Sesshoumaru…what a
beautiful name…but…who was he? The pain was gone in her heart…she only felt an
immense weariness…She wanted to sleep…
“A life for a life…my debt is repaid…” Sesshoumaru…and then she slept…
(…………………………..)
It had been several years since Kagome’s disappearance. Inuyasha wanted
desperately to believe that she was still alive. In a way, he thought that this
was much like Kikyo’s death. He knew not where she was and could not move forward
until he knew whether she was dead or alive.
Kikyo lived with Kaede now as the village miko. She was finally free from the
burden of the jewel, and her face showed it. She was a lot less pale, a lot
less dark and depressed. She had a rosy tint in her cheeks that made her look
happier. Inuyasha hated her. She reminded him of Kagome. Except Kagome was more
beautiful and charming.
This Kikyo was not the one he fell in love with. She was an imposter. The
priestess, as if sensing his hate, stayed away from him. She knew what
happened, and remembered what she did. She remembered how much she hurt the
girl named Kagome, and remembered her burning love for Inuyasha.
She felt sorrow. Despite her happy disguise, she knew that she could never have
Inuyasha’s love or the forgiveness of the girl she had hurt so bad. She had
felt Kagome’s love for him right before the girl died. She sighed. Foolish
girl…she should not have made such a pathetic mistake…
(……………………)
“Rin…” The happy little child stopped in her tracks. She turned her huge brown
eyes on her idol and stared. “Rin…go to Yumi…” His hand was on his forehead,
his claws driving into his bangs. His yellow eyes held nothing, as usual. His
other hand was scribbling a message to Gael, the Lord of the Southern Lands. He
wondered briefly why the lord had suddenly chosen to take a mate. He was around
six hundred years old, pretty young still. Why take a mate at such a young age?
Looking up briefly, he regarded the closing door. The child was obedient, at
least, even if she was an annoying distraction. He scanned his neat writing and
his mind traveled.
It had been exactly four years since that miko saved Rin’s life and had
returned him his arm. With it, he was returned most of his power. With two
arms, the Tensaiga worked twice as well and he could use it to resurrect more
than one being at once. It proved useful in the recent wars that broke out
between the lands. His army could not die now…he would just bring them back.
But his thoughts went further, despite his trying to stop them.
Don’t move Sesshoumaru! Or I’ll shoot you!
No! I won’t give it to you! The Tetussaiga belongs to Inuyasha!
Yes…that miko was
very interesting. He had gone to investigate her health several months after
Naraku’s demise. He had felt that it was his responsibility to do so since he
was in debt to her for saving Rin. Not long afterwards, he had come to find
that she had disappeared right after he left. Strange…had she died? He knew of
miko that disappeared after their death, being reborn into something else.
“Sesshoumaru-sama! Sesshoumaru-sama! Look at what Rin found!” His eyes focussed
back onto the child.
“Rin…I told you to go to Yumi…” Jaken wasn’t far behind. He came running up
behind Rin, huffing and puffing. He looked as terrible as he smelled.
“Shesshoumaru-sama! Forgive this lowly Jakken! This one chased the child all
around the castle, but she would not listen to me! She threw me in the lake and
pushed me into the mud! Fogive this lowly servant!” He threw himself down on
his knees. Sesshoumaru felt no pity, only slight annoyance that the child
hadn’t obeyed him.
“Rin…” his tone was empty, but the girl knew he was mad. In her hands she held
a crown of flowers. “Rin…why did you not go to Yumi?” She began to cry.
Sesshoumaru ignored the pain in his ears. “Rin…”
“Stop crying you baka ningen!” She only cried harder. Shesshoumaru kicked him
into the wall. “Owww…” The crying stopped.
“Rin…” And then she was laughing; laughing so hard she couldn’t stop. The
taiyoukai thought that he liked seeing her laugh. He cursed himself for such
sentimental thoughts. “Rin…” She stopped laughing. “Go to Yumi…” She bowed and
left, and this time, Sesshoumaru knew that she was going to listen to him.
“Sesshoumaru-sama…” The lord stood and looked out the window. The draperies,
sheer and silky, flapped gently around him with the breeze. He looked out at
the kingdom surrounding his castle. The marketplace was bustling with youkai
and ningen alike. Colorful garments and finely carved weapons, powerful spell
scrollnd hnd hair ribbons, jewelry that would last a lifetime, and hot treats and
candies for the children. He looked beyond at the thick forest that surrounded
Inu-Taisho Estate. On the very edge of the forest, far away from the Estate,
his eyes focused on the small shrine that had been there ever since he could
remember.
“What is it, Jakken?” The small youkai could sense that his lord’s mind was not
with him. He decided to ask the question anyway.
“Would Sesshoumaru-sama like me to deliver the message to Gael-sama?” For a
long time, Sesshoumaru simply stood looking at the shrine. Then-
“Jakken…how long has it been since we’ve had a miko visit Yumi?” Jakken thought
back to several years ago when Yumi fell ill. Yumi was a rare bird youkai…swan
youkai to be exact. She was very fragile, especially her health; yet the woman
seemed very capable of taking care of Rin. She was her official caretaker and
was responsible for treating the little girl if anything happened to her.
Sesshoumaru had decided that it would be best if a miko were to visit Yumi
every so often to make sure that her health was indeed not wanning. Swan youkai
tended to have very long lifespans; Yumi was thought to be at least three
thousand years old, although she looked to be only about seven hundred.
Sesshoumaru himself was only that age, and Jakken was confused as to how the
wench managed to stay so beautiful. And beautiful she was. There was a knock at
the door and the subject of Jakken’s and Sesshoumaru’s thoughts entered the
room.
“Sesshoumaru-sama…” Yumi had long flowing golden hair which was always in a
braid down her back. She had very delicate features; sky blue eyes and pink,
full, lips. Her ears were pointed much like Sesshoumaru’s, only on the points,
there were the softest hairs. Yumi was very tall, with a long graceful neck.
She always wore a trademark white gown that flowed with her naturally graceful
movements. On her back, were a pair of the most beautiful wings that stretched
low to her feet. It was said that Yumi used to fly, but when she lost her mate,
Yoko, she never flew again. No one knew how Yoko died…some believed that it was
of old age, and others thought he died in battle…some even believed that humans
had killed the gentle youkai. However he died, Yumi was never the same
afterwards.
“Yumi…is Rin asleep?” As Sesshoumaru turned, he noticed her fatigue. She was
tired, and weakening.
“The little one is sleeping, Sesshoumaru-sama.” She took a crown of flowers out
of her center pocket and handed it to her lord. “She asked that I give this to
you…”
“Yumi…” he did not take the gift. “You need a miko.” She didn’t look up at him.
Yumi was very special to Sesshoumaru. Although no one really knew what the
connection was between them, Jakken noticed that when she was near, his master
always seemed a little more caring.

“I will not lie to my lord, Sesshoumaru-sama. I haven’t been feeling very well
for the past several days.”
“This Sesshoumaru will summon a miko from the shrine.” He turned back to the
window, indifferent as can be, but with all the years that Jakken served his
master, he knew that he was worried. Yumi knew that this conversation had come
to an end. She place the wreath on Sesshoumaru’s desk and left, shutting the
door quietly closed behind her.
“Jakken…take this to Gael, but before you go, stop by the shrine and summon a
miko here.”
“Yes, my lord Sesshoumaru-sama!” He left in haste, taking the small letter from
his master and scampering out the same way Yumi left.
