Race Against Time
After her mother had set breakfast on the table, her little brother, Souta, walked into the kitchen. As usual, he was chanting about the cute girl he liked that sat next to him in one of his classes. Middle Schoolers! Kagome sighed to herself as she quickly scarfed down her eggs and bacon, polishing it off with a glass of milk.
“See ya, Mom! I’m off to school!” She darted from the table to quickly grab her things, slip on her shoes and race to school at a sprint. Gotta beat the cloak!
Come to me…
Kagome…
Go to the well…
Kagome slid to a sudden stop, her eyes darting franticly about. What? Her heart seemed to beat a mile a minute, Go away! Stop talking to me like this! The trees swayed to an unheard music, the breeze cooling her heated flesh. I’m going crazy! A low chime from the city cloak told her that she had less then five minutes to get to class. Oh hell! Taking off at a sprint again, she just rounded the corner when she heard her mother and brother loading up into the family car.
“You’re late again, I see, Miss. Higurashi.” Kagome’s teacher gave her a skeptical look; she could only give him a sheepish smile. The fellow classmates chuckled to themselves, which earned them a hard glare from over the rims of the teacher’s thick glasses. “Take your sit, Miss. Higurashi. We do have a class to complete here.” She nodded, taking her sit at the back of the room, sighing in relief.
Kagome…
Why didn’t you come to me?
Kagome’s spine stiffened, her eyes darting about the class room as if she would see others looking around in wonder. She knew, though, that they could not hear the voice that whispered in her mind, couldn’t listen to the sexual lure of it. At the moment, she wished she couldn’t hear it either. Go away! Leave me be!
You’ll miss me if I go.
I will not! Go!
As you wish…
She tensed for a moment, then suddenly felt empty, as if something was mig. Hg. Hello…? She heard nothing, she didn’t feel the gentle presence anymore either. What have I done? Fear and panic gripped her heart as she heard the bell ring for dismissal. What is the matter with me? I should be happy! Right? Kagome held her breath, waiting, but no reply came, just an aching silence. ‘You’ll miss me if I go.’ His words came back to her and with it, came the tears. How… why…? Kagome walked home in silent remorse, feeling sick and uneasy. Everything seemed different now, nothing seemed right. Please… make this feeling go away… The tears continued to slip down her flushed cheeks.
Come to me…
Her heart skipped a beat, looking around as if hoping to find the source of the voice that had become so dear to her. How do I get to you?
So yl col come?
If you’ll tell me the way.
The well… at your house.
Energy coursed through her as she raced home, placed her backpack inside the door and sprinting to the covered well behind her house. I’ll finally be able to place a face to the voice… Kagome slid the door open, stepped inside and closed it behind her.
Come.
You’re treating me like a dog! ‘Come’! Jeez!
That’s not a bad idea.
Kagome’s eyes widened. WHAT!? Suddenly, she lost her balance and stumbled into the well, hitting the bottom with a ‘thud’.
“Humph! A dog! Oh! Of course! A guy with that sexy of a voice just HAD to be a jerk and a half!” She mumbled to herself as she claimed from the well.
“I have a sexy voice, huh?” Kagome groaned, then it hit her, that time, it hadn’t been in her mind that he had spoken. Slowly, she pulled herself completely from the well only to find herself, face to face with the most handsome guy she had ever met.
“Whoa…” He towered over her from where she sat on the lip of the well; silver hair shimmered in the sun light, golden eyes priced into her very soul.
“Inu-inu-inuyasha…” His name came to her from nowhere and the voice suddenly become more then she could handle…
“Welcome to my time.” Inuyasha gave her a lazy grin, which made Kagome’s heart flip.
