~~Chapter One~~ Life isn’t a fairy Tale
I sat on
the couch with wide eyes. “This gotta be a joke…” I said to myself and glanced
at the note again. Looking at the calendar on the wall, I saw it was November. “Oh great, two months to let this crap run through my brain.”
My eyes wandered to my answering machine, and I suddenly felt horrible. ‘He made it sound so horrible. Is mother ok…’
I stood up and looked at my clock seeing it was time for me to get to work or I
was going to be late. Grabbing my backpack and the money I walked out, locking
the door, and jogged to the elevator.
Café Wiz was a popular little café; they
served a lot of different variety of foods and drinks. Walking into the place,
I got a glare from my friend working. Nodding, I sweat dropped and went to
change in the back. “I was almost late…” I sighed as I undressed and put on my
waiter outfit.
Hearing the
door open I glanced back seeing Kiri. “So you’re almost late again. What’s
wrong with you getting here on time huh?” She had her hands on her hips, a
pencil in her hair.
I grinned,
“Just got distracted by a message. It’s nothing big. And then I was late for
the train and had to run here.” I stated matter-of-factly making Kiri bust up
laughing. She shook her head and pats my shoulder.
“Come on,
we’ve got closing tonight.” She walked out and went back to taking orders. I
nodded to myself and grabbed the things I need walking out and put on a smile
greeting new people that walked in.
As I seated
some people, I heard the door open. Turning around I began to greet them,
“Hello, welcome to…” I blinked twice seeing Kouga and his gang. ‘Their… back in
town… just great, I’m not gunna get any peace now.’
Kouga
blinked seeing me standing there; he let his eyes roam up and down before he
put on a grin, “Ina baby! Long time no see!” He walked up to me and put his
arms around my waist. “I missed you while I was gone.”
Kiri
blinked twice seeing this and sighed shacking her head, walking over to Kouga.
“I won’t tell you again what the rules are here… Plus Ina’s already got a new
boyfriend! And he’s hotter than you can ever be!” I blinked twice and looked at her with wide
eyes.
“What!” His
eyes narrowed and he let go of me, “You’re mine! How dare you let another man
touch you!” He snarled pissed now.
“Heh, you
see Kouga-kun…” I folded my arms over my chest, “The one reason I found another
male is because I wanted a male who wouldn’t leave on a stupid journey for
three years. And my current boyfriend isn’t just a hottie, he has money too…” I
was lying, but I normally did when it came to Kouga. He was just to possessive
and I was really sick of it.
His eyes
widened and he shook his head, “I don’t believe it.” He growled low but a broom
to the back of the head made him cower in fear. The manager stood over him with
narrowed eyes daring him to pull anything. He growled and told his gang it’s
time to leave. He glanced once at me before he walked out.
“I swear,
when ever he is in town. All he does is cause trouble.” The manager mumbled low
and went back to her work. Making the two of us grin and giggle, but then went
back to our work.
It was
almost midnight by the time we
finished closing the café. I yawned changing back into
my normal cloths. Closing my locker, I glanced at Kiri. “Hey, can I tell you
something…”
She put her
shirt on over her head and looked at me nodding, “Sure, go ahead. You now you
can tell me anything.”
Taking a
deep breath, I exhaled and looked down. “My father called me…” Her eyes went
wide at that, “He said my mother is sick. But I didn’t listen to it all,
because I didn’t want to hear his voice at the time. But I don’t know how much
longer she has. But I don’t want to see him or Kizuna… my little half-sister.”
Plopping down on the bench I sighed not knowing what to do.
“You gotta
see them!” She took hold of my shoulders. “You haven’t seen them since you got
sent to this school… like in 6th grade…”
I shook my
head, “It’s not that easy Kiri, and I’m scared.”
“YOU WILL
GO SEE THEM!” She snapped at me, I blinked twice and cowered in fear nodding my
head yes. She smiled and patted my head, “That’s a good girl. If I find out you
don’t, I’ll make your life horrible for a few weeks…” With that she walked out
of the changing room. I followed her whining a little but we closed and went
home to the complex.
The train
was smelly and noisy, ‘this is why I hate
using public transportation… humans always stink.’ I thought as the kid
next to me was crying because she couldn’t run around the train. Rubbing my
temples, I tried to imagine that my stop was coming up. As if my prayers were
answered, I heard. “Next stop Kyoto.”
Standing up seeing the station in sight I sighed in relief.
The train finally stopped and I got
off, glancing around I blinked in confusion. “Wow, Kyoto
has changed a lot.” Glancing down at the instructions I sighed shacking my head. “This is sad; I don’t even know where my
own home is…” I began to walk in the direction I was told by the paper.
Two hours later, I was panting as I finished
walking up a long flight of stairs. Seeing a nice little house I blinked twice
looking at the picture on the paper seeing it was the same. “Finally…” I sighed
and crumbled the paper up putting it in my pocket. Walking up the door, I
knocked twice not sure to ring the door bell or not.
“Who
is it?” An older male’s voice was heard and I felt a shiver of fear run down my
spine. The door slowly opened and there stood a man about 42. He had short
brown hair, blue eyes; you tell he was aging because he had a few gray hairs.
He blinked twice looking at me, “May I help you?”
“Umm, yes.
I’m looking for my mother Izuneki Ruhaguji. Is she here?” I blinked twice.
He looked at me, and his eyes went
wide. “Ina! I didn’t recognize you! You’ve grown so much.” He let me in.
Walking in I glanced around but was lead to a living room. “Please sit.” He
motioned for me to sit; I plopped down and glanced at him. He sat down opposite
from me. “It’s been far too long since I’ve last seen you. You’ve grown into a
woman; I bet the men won’t leave you alone.”
“….” I
raised an eyebrow at him but sighed shacking my head, “yah what ever. I only
came here because I had no choice to, that or Kiri would torture me to no
living hell…”
“Watch your
language in his house!” he snapped for a second but then coughed twice. “Im sorry about that.”
“Heh, looks
like old habits die hard…” I laughed but stopped as foot steps were heard coming
down the stairs.
“Daddy,
who’s here…” she walked into the living room sleepy.
My step
father got up and picked up his daughter, “Kizuna… meet Ina, she’s your step
sister…”
The little
girl yawned and rubbed her eyes glancing at me then frowned, “I hate her. Make
her leave… She isn’t family no more, I even heard you say that to mommy…”
I smiled a
little, “Ill leave as soon as I get to speak with my mother…”
“NO! She’s
my mommy! Not yours!” she glared at me.
“You’re
wrong…” my eyes held something in them making Kizuna cower in fear a little,
“You don’t know the truth, so don’t start this…” Was all I said as I walked
upstairs towards my mother scent.
Walking up
the stairs, I followed my mothers scent to a door. Putting my hand on the knob,
I felt my body stiffen as if scared. Closing my eyes, I pushed it open and
walked in. The room was dark and curtains covered the windows not letting any
light in. Seeing a bed in the corner of the room, I walked over to it.
“Mother…” I muttered kneeling down next to the bed. A woman about 40 laid
there, she was very skinny, and her face wasn’t youthful anymore.
She slowly
began to wake up when she heard me. Opening her eyes slowly, she glanced at me
and smiled. “Oh my baby, how I missed…. You…” her voice was low and hoarse; I
felt tears starting to appear in my eyes.
“What
happened to you?” I slipped my hand into hers squeezing it. “I’ve missed you
too…” the tears began to fall and I put my head on the bed trying to stop.
“This isn’t fair.”
She patted
my head with her other hand, “This is my choice. For actions I made long ago…”
she smiled at me.
“But, why
would you rather die than live!” I didn’t understand anything.
She smiled
once more at me, “When I first married your father… I thought I was truly…
happy. But then about three months after, I met my friend I hadn’t seen in
years in a bar.” She closed her eyes remembering the fond memories. “We made
love that night; I was to drunk to remember the details, but two months later…
I found out I was pregnant with you…” She squeezed my hand.
“What kind
of youkai was he..” I knew I was part youkai, but I never knew.
“He was an
Inu. Not sure what his ranking was, but he looked high up.” She thought for a
moment, “but anyway, when I told your father. He said that he would love this
child even if it wasn’t his own.” Falling silent, I took that as a bad sign.
“But then about two weeks before I had you, his attitude changed. Did a 180 on
me; he told me that he would never love this child since it wasn’t his own. I
thought he was joking until I saw for myself what he did to you when you were
younger. So when you were old enough, I asked him to ship you off to a high
class boarding school for your own safety.”
My eyes
were wide listening to my mother, and I squeezed her hand to continue. “What
was my father life?”
“A
wonderful… man. He never once… raised his voice…” she coughed a few time, “I
never realized until the night in the bar that I was really in love with him
and just trying to tell myself I was in love with your other father.” She
coughed harder making me worried now. “…All I want… is to be… with him… once
again…” she smiled and closed her eyes for a moment, then opened and closed
them again. Her breathing slowly stopped.
“Mother! Mother! No! Don’t go!” I begged her but knew it
wasn’t an option. Tears rolled down my face as I held her limp hand. “No… you
were the only one I could trust… in this family…” I sobbed into the bed; my
heart ached for the loss that would follow me for the rest of my life. I was
only 17 and I already lost my mother, the only one who ever loved me in my
whole family.
My step
father walked in to see how his wife was doing, but his eyes went wide seeing
her not breathing and me sobbing next to her. “Izuneki!”
He yelled running over to her, grabbing my shoulders he gently helped me to a
seat then went back to his wife. Tears began to fall from his eyes but he
smiled and kissed her forehead. “You go to where you belong…” he muttered and
pulled the covers over her and looked at me. “Get out of this room now, and
don’t come back in… once the funeral is over I want you gone the next day…”
It was a
cold and gloomy day, Kiri and I stood in a group of people wearing black. Kiri
was crying for the loss of her second mother, I stood there watching them
slowly lower her into the ground. ‘What did I do to deserve this punishment…’ I
thought but hearing footsteps behind coming at them, I glanced behind seeing a
man that looked like in his later 30’s. But the thing I noticed the most, was his
silver hair and jade green eyes. ‘Who is this guy…’ I thought but his eyes
landed on mine and widened. He stopped for a moment before shacking
his head and proceeded to the funeral to pay his respects. I watched him the
whole time, since I didn’t know what it was about him that put me on alert.
Listening
to the priest talk about she was a good person, I felt a fresh wave of tears
start, but I was too stubborn to let them fall. Kiri put her head on my
shoulder and clinged to my arm for comfort and support. I didn’t push her away,
because at this time I could use a friend also. We both watched as they began
to shovel the dirt over her and I glanced at her, “let’s go..” I muttered and
she nodded. We began to walk away from the gravesite, our black coats tossing
in the wind.
The late
arrival saw we were leaving; he bowed in respect again and took off after us.
“Excuse me!? Can I ask you two a few questions?” he had a calm voice.
Stopping I
glanced back at him, “What? Can’t you see we don’t want to talk.”
“I just
want to know, are you Izuneki’s child?” He glanced at me.
“Yah and so what.” I raised an eyebrow.
“Ummm… it’s
just, that I might be your father…” he scratched his head sweat dropping.
“If you’re
the youkai she screwed from that bar then yes… you are my father but I don’t
want to talk, so leave me alone…” I grabbed Kiri’s arm and we began to walk
away.
“Can’t I at
least know your name?!” he sounded like he was hurt.
Continuing
to walk and I sighed loudly, “It’s Ina… now leave us alone!” I snapped and soon
was out of site from him.
IT was
about 8 o’clock in my family’s house.
I had made dinner for them since my step father had said that he hadn’t eaten a
good home cooked meal in awhile. We were sitting at the table eating, and I
noticed Kizuna was glaring at me the whole time. I smiled at her, “Yes what
is?” I said to sweetly at her.
“I don’t
like you. You come here thinking you own this place! I wont let you take over
my spot to inherit the family fortune!” she slammed her fist on the table
making me blink.
“Family
fortune… you must be joking, I don’t want nothing out of this family. The only
connection I had with my so called father was my mother.” I glanced at him
before looking back at her.
She growled
low, “She was my mother! She died because you killed her! You’re a murder! A
MURDER!” she yelled at me tears falling. “Even daddy said it was your fault
mommy was like this!”
I Glanced
at him eyes narrowed, “So it’s my fault that mother was sick…” my voice was
deadly.
“Oh hell
yes it is!” he looked at me putting aside his plate. “It wasn’t for you! I
would of have had a normal marriage! I wouldn’t have been reduced to seeing
your face for almost 12 years!”
Standing
up, I put my hands on the table. “Yah well! I’m so sorry I screwed up your
fucking life! Do you have any idea how much pain you fucking put me through!
Beating me, cutting me, and even breaking my bones! My life didn’t matter as
long as you could make the pain go away!”
“DO YOU
HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT SHAME I FELT WHEN YOUR MOTHER SAID SHE WAS PREGANT BY A YOUKAI!
AND HOW MUCH IT MADE ME LOOK LIKE A DISHONORED MAN ON MY FAMILY TO HAVE HER
BARE A HANYOU!” He yelled at me standing up, his eyes held rage he had bottled
up for so long.
Ohhh, he
wasn’t the only one. I was now old enough and strong enough to defend myself.
“Do you know how it felt to wake up at night fearing when I would die… from the
man that I thought would be a father figure… do you!
Fearing every minute in this house! THAT I WOULD TURN A CORNER AND YOU’D KILL
ME! AND THEN SHIPPING ME OFF TO A SCHOOL, I SAW YOUR SMIRK WHEN I LEFT! IT HURT
ME! THAT YOU WOULD BE HAPPY WITH HER!” I pointed to
Kizuna, “AND YOU NEVER GAVE ME A CHANCE! WELL YOU KNOW WHAT I SAY TO YOU NOW!
SCREW YOU AND GO TO FUCKING HELL!” I snapped slamming my fist into the table
breaking it. That made both of them go silent with
wide eyes as I stood there. “You don’t want to piss me off anymore, because I
know how to kill and I’m not afraid to do it…” I flexed my claws then walked
grabbing my bag and walked out slamming the door. I had a frown on my face as I
walked down the stairs, it was late now and the trains would probably still be
running. Maybe I could catch the last one to Tokyo
and be back by 5 in the morning.
My step
father and Kizuna sat there for a moment. Kizuna looked at her father, “Daddy…
Are you sure she is my older sister?” Seeing him nod, she looked down and got
out of her seat running after me.
The night
was cold, and my breath was showing with each one I took walking down the
stairs. Hearing footsteps running after me, I turned around seeing Kizuna.
“What are you doing out in this cold?” I asked but when she stumbled and began
to fall I ran up and caught her. “Geez… be careful will you.” Was all I said as
I grabbed my bag again and began to walk again.
“Wait!” she
said with a low voice, I stopped in confusion. “I’m sorry for what I said…” she
looked down. “I jumped to conclusions… and I thought you were bad. But when you
yelled at Father, I finally understood why you don’t want to come back here. To
tell you the truth, I want to leave also. But Dad would never allow me, he says
I’m his perfect little angel… but I don’t want to be! I just want to be a
normal girl!” she felt tears fall as she confessed to me.
Turning
around I looked at her with a small smile, “Just be who you are. I finally
learned that when my best friend Kiri came after me when my father shipped me
off. But when I was myself, I learned out things I didn’t even know I had. Soon
I made great friends, and I even had a few other surprises…” I laughed blushing a little. “Do you know Prince Inuyasha is looking
for a bride…”
Her eyes
went bright, and she nodded. “Yes! He’s turning 18 soon! Oh I wish I was older!
Then I could try and become his mate!” That statement made me laugh and smiled.
“Well don’t
tell anyone else this, but I’m in his bath of candidates… for what reason I
have no idea… but I got to go now… I have to get home… I hope to talk to you
more lil brat…” I rubbed her head making her pout but laughed and waved me
goodbye as I went to the train station back to my house. It was a long ride
back home to comfort, and after tonight I was mentally drained. Hopefully
tomorrow would be better.
