Chapter 2
Sesshomaru always preferred to fly rather than run. It wasn’t laziness that made him want to fly it was the wind. He enjoyed the way the wind would challenge him when he flew. As if the wind could beat the Lord of the Western Lands. He however still enjoyed the challenge. It was one of the very few things he could say that he really loved and mean it. He had not really meant to impose on an argument between his brother and the Miko, but the presence of another woman in the house was long overdue. She could, in a way, be the saving grace of his sanity. Rin would never know what it had cost him to not only ask his brother for help, but a human. What use would This Sesshomaru have for a human. Well, the jury was still out on that one.
He thought of many things to pass the time as he flew, but most of all he thought about the way that his life had changed over the past nine or so years. He could live a hundred or more years and things didn’t change as much as they have in the past decade. My how the time had flown. He had encountered a problem when he first noticed that the young child that calmed him so with her hypertension had changed, and was changing. She was no longer a child, and she would have to make some decision soon. The kind that were life changing decisions. He however did not know how he would feel about her choices she would have to make, but he was going to give her options anyway. She was his Ward and a very faithful servant. She deserved to be happy, and he was more than willing to give her anything she desired to make her happy.
Jaken had taken nicely to the decision that he had made to live in the castle for a while. His decision however had evolved around the fact that Rin had become a slight liability when they went away on trips. Ahun was rather capable of protecting her, but Sesshomaru felt it would be better to live in the confines of a building to better protect the young human. He so enjoyed her free spirit, and often took her on camping trips, but living in the forest would have to wait a while before it would be a feasible option. He didn’t want to think of her as a liability, but she would definitely be used against him in any way a good, er bad, captor would see fit. She meant too much to him for him to jeopardize her welfare for his own conquest. Her life was so much more important to him, being as a mortals time is so short.
All the thoughts in his head were pushed away as he hurried to the comfort of the estate, and everything that waited there for him. In a way it pleased him that he had something to come back to rather than a cold empty stone building. The emptiness of the building was ultimately what had caused him to start traveling in the first place. To search for his father’s sword was only an excuse that he used for himself to justify the loneliness that he would never admit to feeling. ‘This Sesshomaru could never be lonely. His heart is too cold to feel emotion such as those.’ His life had indeed changed for the mean time, but he knew all too well that all good things must come to an end, as did his trip. The flame that lit his heart was ever approaching.
Sesshomaru embodied at the steps to his rather large estate. He trudged through the halls, only to find that no life was to be found in the entire house. Had he not paused momentarily and took a break from his thoughts to assess what was going on he may have never heard the very faint sounds of laughter. It was as quiet as a mouse, but it was still there, and coming from somewhere that he couldn't quite place a finger on. He wondered what could be all the quietness, but being as he had spent a better part of his life feeling it he shrugged it off and kept walking.
He had almost given up the search to return to his quarters, but when he opened the door to his chamber he found the faint noise. It was the sweetest thing that he had ever laid ears on, but at the same time the intrusion on his quarters was duly noted. Upon entering his quarters he heard a splash and knew instantly that the culprit was invading his bathing chamber. Anger sent a serge of energy through his veins as he entered his bathing chamber to find the culprit, but was quickly taken aback at the sight that stood before him. It was indeed a woman. He watched as the water rolled down her skin like petals falling from a flower. The lush curve of her hip as she turned to face him was entirely too much for him to gaze at, but he couldn’t look away. It was like a train wreck. You didn’t want to watch, but you couldn’t look away either. She was apparently immerging from the water when she heard the large stone door hit the wall behind her. The room was silent for only a heartbeat.
She turned to the sound of the crashing door. "Lord Sesshomaru, please pardon my intrusion, they are working on my bathing chamber. Master Jaken said that I shouldn't be in your chamber but............" She trailed off noticing the fact that she was standing there in front of him in the most unbecoming way of a lady and felt her whole body begin to blush as she dropped herself back beneath the water. She immediately became rather embarrassed at the situation that she had found herself in. She had never been looked at like he was looking at her and she was a little confused. She hadn’t expected him to return until nightfall. She couldn’t possibly admit that she had just wanted to use his bathing chamber, but the fact that her mirror was being replaced was a very good cover up. Or at least she hoped it would be.
He knew that the second he had intruded on her it was a mistake. He knew close to nothing about humans, but the sight he had seen when she emerged with water cascading down her body made any indiscretion she had ever committed somehow disappear. He would have given her the whole estate to stay standing, but he was her Lord and she knew better than to intrude on him. He had managed to be cool this time. His composure still held in tact, but while he turned to walk away he couldn't help but ask himself how he had missed such a beautifully blossomed young woman in his own presence. He knew then that there would be questions of his own that he would need answered. He tried to remind himself at that moment that she was human and would always be human.
She was relieved when he left her to remove herself from his chamber, but she still scolded herself for being there in the first place. She had had an unusual fascination with her Lord recently, and had felt that she needed to suppress it. Using his quarters seemed to be the only way she was going to get close to any part of him, so her resolve had been to break the corner of her mirror. It was very infantile, but she needed an excuse to be there or else she was sure that her Lord would not have taken pity on her. He didn’t like humans, and she didn’t feel like she would be the exception if he caught her there again.
She hurried to gather her things. Her plan had worked, but it had not fallen through properly considering she was caught red handed. She still didn’t understand the way he had looked at her when he was standing at the door, and she wasn’t sure she was willing to find out. Next time she wanted a bath she would not commit such a travesty against her Lord that had taken such good care of her for so long.

Sesshomaru retreated to the comfort of his library. He had things to think about now that he had thought would never be a problem. He had to find an outlet for the feelings that he was enthralled with and was sure that some reading would calm him. He could spend all night in his library with the thousands of scrolls his father had collected, but he doubted he would come up with a solution he liked. It was rather boring to be there alone, but it was also peaceful in the quiet of his personal space. The only person that ever entered his library was Rin. She would sometimes accompany him after she ate and before she went to bed. He had long ago noticed that her scent told her secrets while she sat on the floor beside him to play with his hair. Sometimes it was even worse when she would seat herself distant from him, but close enough to look at him from the corner of her eye. He had been pleased with himself at not teaching her stealth, but he missed the time they had shared together. He picked a scroll from one of the walls and sat in his favorite chair.
Hours had passed and he didn’t even know what the scroll was about. He had never been this scattered with his priorities. He just couldn’t stop thinking about her. She was his main thought as he imitated the motions of reading the scroll that lay in his lap. The more he though about her the more he wanted to think about her. He scolded himself for the fact that he was even letting her affect his rational thinking weather she knew it or not. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt so stronglt about any female, let alone a human. He reminded himself briskly that he didn’t like humans, but everything that he knew about females suggested that she was interested in him. Yet her actions never faltered to show him that he was wrong. Was everything she did all fake? Had she learned from him to repress her emotions? If so then that was the only emotion that she did repress. She was still the most energetic and talkative person he knew. He didn’t think she could hide anything from him. But truthfully he didn’t think she had ever tried.
There was something that he was missing. A piece to the puzzle was missing somewhere. It was tearing his insides apart and he had to know. She would never lie to him, but refraining from telling him the whole truth was as amiss as telling a lie. He would have to know what the emotion was that plagued her so. He had seen so many emotions from her at first that he thought he knew all of them. That had made her very annoying, but she was rather compelling when she was smaller when she had shown more affection toward him, but somehow it seemed that those days had long since passed with her age as she learned embarrassment.
The older she became the more she had felt it was inappropriate for her to follow him everywhere he went as she had when she was a child. His favorite thing she did where the flowers. She didn’t bring him flowers anymore. Instead she would place them all over the house for him to smell. She always picked the sweetest scented flowers for him to grace his senses with. But he somehow couldn’t help but miss the sensitive child that he so enjoyed watching grow. Maybe that child was gone and had been replaced. She had been replaced with this creature that he knew very little about except for the fact that she secretly adored him instead of openly. What he wouldn’t give for things to be the way they were when she was small, but things would be so different. He knew he wouldn’t look at her the way he had when he caught her in his bathing chamber.

She had dressed immediately after he left her in his chamber. He never let anyone inside his chamber, even her. She wasn’t excluded on many things where he was concerned, but his privacy was never to be disturbed by anyone. That was definitely something that no one on the grounds dared to do. She was sure that he was angry with her but there really wasn’t any way of knowing what was on his mind as his face never changed. It often left her wondering about him, but she had learned long ago that you never questioned him about anything. If he wanted you to know he would tell you. In her eyes he was perfect and had his own agenda for everything he did.
She thought about him as she walked silently down the hall. She had done the wrong thing to invade his privacy, but just like him she had her own agenda to attend to. She wasn’t likely to get the things from him that she thought she needed, so she had to get what she could. A minor invastion of his privacy was well worth the effort, but she didn’t want him to be mad at her. She felt lucky as she walked through the hallways because she didn’t run into him. She figured he must have retreated to the library, so she would retreat to her room. Her thoughts run amok while she pushed open the doorway to her room.
She now stood in her room. It was only a few more feet to the best place on the estate, her balcony. She had chosen the best room in the house. It was the tower room. It gave her a perfect view of the beautiful lands that her Master and his family before him ruled. From her balcony you could see miles around the castle, but the one perk that she most enjoyed was the fact that from her stance she could see just inside the library where her Master spent most of his time. She could sit and watch him read for hours. As long as the wind was on her side he would never catch the scent of her standing there. She could fantasize all she wanted, as long he never knew she was watching him.
One this particular day he was apparently thinking about something for he had been reading the same scroll for almost an hour now without winding it. She watched as he ran his fingers through his perfect silver hair falling all the way to the floor around his chair. She remembered a time not so long ago when she would be nestled by his chair running her fingers though the delicate strands herself. She wished that she could be young again and be able to play with the silken stands that now lay on the floor, but what she would rather do is be the hair that he had ran so intently through his fingers. To feel the sensations on her skin that would come with the touch of his beautifully marked and clawed hands. To feel the light claw marks he would make when he would run them across her skin setting her body on fire. But she guessed one has to have dreams. Or maybe she could call it a goal. Her goal in life was to feel, but feeling was something her beloved Lord never did. Who was she trying to kid. She would be dust in her grave before he would touch a woman. In the ten years she had been by his side he had never even glanced at a woman, of any breed.
She removed herself from the balcony with the effort it would have taken to move a dinosaur. She knew that she would soon have company since her Master had been to visit his brother. The proposal of an invitation for her to have human company had come as a shock to her, but was a thrill none the less. Soon, she would have someone to talk to about all the feelings she felt. It was a prime opportunity to have someone to talk to and she wasn’t about to turn it down. Kagome would be the perfect person to help her though her problems. The only problem she had was how to get him to love her. Or at least show he cared a little.
