"What the hell are we doing here?" Yusuke leaned back in his chair, propping his feet upon the table. This wasn't his week, everything was going wrong. First the blow up with Keiko yesterday and now the message to meet everyone at Kurama's place. Botan had appeared while he was on the phone with Keiko. If she knew he was probably about to be dragged into another mess there'd be hell to pay. He was being blamed for that strange girl's outburst at the mall. Like he'd told the girl to get up and defend him. It had shocked and awed him. Something Keiko said must have caused the girl to snap. It would have been hard to miss the tears brimming in her eyes. Stil the girl had a point and it had felt good to finally have someone on his side.
"Be patient, I'm sure Koenma has a very good reason for the summons." Kurama wanted to scold his friend about his feet but refrained. Yusuke hadn't changed in all these years he wasn't going to try and teach the man any manners. If the rumors he'd heard were true, then Enma had appointed a new spirit detective. So why would Koenma call them here? If there was a problem then they had someone to take care of it. Unless the problem had something to do with them directly. Two years had passed since they'd returned to the Ningenkai for good. The only person missing was Hiei, there was little chance of him showing.
"I wouldn't have called you without one." Koenma rose his hand as he entered through the open door. Questions were about to be thrown, he'd answer in due time. After fighting with his father last night and then this new detective all morning he had a pounding headache. Yet him and his father knew their new lackey wasn't up to handling this problem. Not to mention this problem was probably heading straight for Yusuke. There was no way around it, Yusuke was about to be dragged into it all. He would regret bringing Yusuke back into his service. "Before you ask I will tell you why I've called you three together."
Koenma took a seat at the table with the three. "I'd hate to do this to you three but I have no choice. I don't expect you to fight this new battle. Silence Yusuke, let me talk please. Does the name Sensui ring a bell?" Every head popped up at the name, good he had their attention. Things were going to hell fast, this wasn't going to be good. "Yesterday there was a disturbance in the mountains, on Genkai's property at that. My father sent a few scouts just to check it out and was stunned at what we found. The troops went in, I watched them all be slaughtered by none other than Sensui. There was no doubt whom it was standing there. I can show you the footage if you like. That is a face none of us will ever forget. Somehow he has risen from the grave. We aren't sure who did it or why. The last we knew Itsuki had him in a different dimension. At first we thought it was Itsuki that had brought the man back. That was until we found his corpse, not far from the cave. We believe that Sensui will seek revenge not only against those that helped stop him but those that worked along side him."
"You gotta be kidding me." Kuwabara didn't want to believe what he was hearing. Sensui was dead, how the hell could he be walking around? He remembered the weird man taking the body before the soul could emerge to be judged. Yet why after all these years? Better yet who knew how to ressurect a dead body? "Are you saying he's going to come for us?"
"I'm saying we aren't sure what he's going to do. Every team we've sent after him in the last twelve hours has ended up dead. This Sensui is different, even you might not be able to defeat him. His sacred energy has gotten alot stronger, more immense." Koenma wasn't sure what else to tell them. That was all the information he had at the moment. When speaking to his father he'd had the feeling that Enma had been holding out on him. Yet what could his father know that he didn't? Sensui had been his mistake, he knew all there was to know about the man.
"As much as I'd like to finish our fight, we can't let him hurt anyone innocent. I can't imagine why anyone would bring him back. Then again I didn't know him as well as you Koenma. Didn't he find peace before he died?" Yusuke felt sudden fear if the man was coming back for some type of twisted revenge. There was no telling what was going on in his mind. It meant informing Keiko of everything in case she might be in danger.
"It seems a little odd to me. Right before Sensui died, we all heard him say he accepted death. He found peace knowing that he'd been killed by a youkai stronger than himself. A need for revenge shouldn't be driving him. I doubt Itsuki had somehow managed to revive him, so we must assume that there is someone else at work here." Kurama had multiple options running through his mind, none of them ringing true. "I believe what happened is someone knew of Sensui and has revived him for their own purposes. We all know of the war raging inside his soul, with all the different personalities. Could be that after reviving all that confusion is in turmoil. Why else would he kill Itsuki? Out of the old gang he was probably the only one close to the man. They were partners for sometime then spent ten years together. Some kind of bond must have formed during that decade. So why would Sensui kill him upon waking?"
"He's pissed that's why." Kuwabara didn't feel like doing the whole detective thing again. He'd finally gotten past the friendship stage with Yukina. It wouldn't be long before she accepted his advances. Soon they'd be married, she'd be his beautiful bride. Why the hell did this have to happen? Couldn't he stay dead where he belonged? Koenma should have taken his soul to the Reikai when he had the chance. "Why can't your new detective handle this?"
"He isn't trained nor qualified to handle something this big yet. A fast learner he might be but he isn't Yusuke." Koenma wished this hadn't happened. His horrible mistake was coming back to kick him in the ass again. This all should have ended when Sensui died. He'd find whomever was responsible for this and see them punished to the full extent of the law. "Before we make any plans, I want to introduce you to my new detective. He will be working with you on this case."
Yusuke watched as Koenma went to the doorframe to wave someone inside. Soon he'd finally meet his replacement. What sucker had Enma conned into fighting for humankind? This was going to be good, someone to babysit. Koenma stepped aside for a tall boy reaching about six feet inside. He had short brown hair, feathered in a preppy style. Not a bad looking guy but obviously someone totally opposite of himself. Koenma cleared his throat, "Guys, I would like you to meet Hojo."
"Kagome, I feel naked." Sango was urged to pull the large beach towel over herself. The suit made the heat more bareable but she was flashing everyone with skin. It didn't matter that every other female there was wearing something just like it or less. No wonder the human race was going to hell, they were all perverts. It was a good thing Miroku never came to the future, the houshi never would have wanted to leave. Nothing but naked flesh for miles!
"You'll get used to it." Kagome moved her hand shielding her eyes from the blazing sun. The morning had begun hot and sticky, the afternoon was getting worse. She definitely needed a cool dip in the water. The only thing keeping her planted on the towel was all the people already there. The beach was crowded with school being out for the summer. All the teenagers were hitting the sand early. She knew as soon as she got up some horny male would flock to her trying to score. Atleast laying down she could pretend to be sleeping. If she ever loved again it would be someone special. Not some ordinary guy like those swarming around. How could anyone else understand what she'd been through? Souta knew some of it but he was her brother. If she tried to open up to someone, would they believe her wild tales? Sango had it just as rough. What if the taijiya started dating in this time and was asked when her birthday was? The girl had been born over five centuries ago, how could one explain that?
The people she'd gone to high school with all thought her to be a walking death sentence. Poor Kagome, she's going to fall over stiff any minute, let's pity her. How could she tell someone of her trips to the past and what she really was? They were both stuck with a bleak future, one alone. The only guy that wasn't scared of catching something was Hojo. He still called every week to see how she was doing. She'd even gone out with him a few times. The dates were pleasant but no spark had been felt on her part. He was a good friend and she appreciated that he cared. How could she explain to him that most of her heart had died along with an amazing hanyou?
Souta cursed when the frisby flew past his head to land several feet away. He cringed seeing how close it had come to hitting his sister. Luckily she was lost in thought and hadn't noticed the near mishap. He ran towards the flat disk only to stop when a shadow fell over his feet and the frisby. Before he could reach down, long well defined fingers picked up the disk. Souta covered his eyes with his hands to peer up at a very tall man. It struck him as strange that the man was dressed in jeans and a long black shirt. It had to be pushing over a hundred outside yet the man wasn't breaking a sweat. "Thanks, can I have my frisby back?"
"Of course but in return will you do me a favor?" The man turned black eyes towards the two females laying not far from them. Both were totally unware of his presence thanks to this new form. He couldn't have wished for a more perfect form. This was his destiny, to rule in this era. Life was also kind enough to let him complete his revenge. He knew that all the others had died in the last fight. Just those two girls had escaped. As much as he disliked Sango, he hated the miko with a passion. It had been her to deal the blow to destroy his old form. Who would have believed her purification powers surpassed that of the dead Kikyou. "See those girls over there lying down? I believe I know them. Mind asking them to look this way for me?"
"Sure!" Souta took the toy back then trotted over to his sister and Sango. How could the man know them? He'd never seen him before. And he said he knew Sango but how? Maybe it was a mistake of some kind and the man just wanted to flirt with them. Yeah, that had to be it, the man was wanting to flirt. Just to be sure he knealt down next to Kagome. "Hey Sis, that guy over there says he knows you two. He told me to tell you two to look at him."
"Souta that is obviously a pick-up line, geeze." Kagome followed Sango's movement to get a look at the man. He obviously was lonely to use such a crummy line. Sango caught her breath before Kagome could figure out why. The man was extremely tall, very good-looking yet slim. The clothes he was wearing had to be burning him up but he didn't appear to be uncomfortable. Her first reaction was to search for anything youkai coming from him. No, the man was definitely human. She let her eyes land on his face, to gaze at him. He was staring right at them, not hiding his scrutiny.
Sango had never seen the man before but would never forget the eyes. At first glance they were a jet black until you met them head on. Before she could blink they turned a blood red. In those depths she could see hatred, pain, fury, and malice. All those feelings were being directed towards her and Kagome. She'd seen only one person with eyes like that and he was dead. Wasn't he?! She'd never seen this man before or anyone with those eyes since coming through the well. Was it a trick of the sun? "Kagome, his eyes."
The miko focused on it and frowned, evil was what came to mind. His aura wasn't showing anything yet those two orbs spoke volumes. Who was he? Did he think he knew them for some strange reason? Mistaken identity? Those eyes were hauntingly familiar, her senses cried out in fear.
The strange man smiled suddenly, malice was dripping from the corners. As they watched he brought his hands, moving them out towards them. The hands made a motion, mocking that of a bow being fired. Kagome gasped when he pointed a finger straight at her. "What the hell?" She almost felt like soiling herself, he was scaring her. She'd faced down Naraku yet something about this man was causing her soul to panic. A group of teenagers came running by blocking her view for only a few seconds. It was a welcomed reprieve from the hate she saw in those eyes. As her view cleared, he was gone. "Where did he go?"
