Chapter 2
2 Months Later

The days dragged by for the heartbroken miko and she submerged her self in her studies in an attempt to keep her mind off of her loss. The pain of not having her mate with her was heart breaking and soul shattering she wanted nothing more then to crawl inside of a hole and die. But she would not! She would not give up until she learned for sure the fate that beheld him and she would not stop until she found him dead or alive.

There were not many things that Kagome was dedicated to but she was determined. She scoured the local library for any myths of youkai that might tell her what had happened to her mate and her friends. Before she knew it two months had passed since her return home.

As always Kagome was within the library researching anything she could find on that era and any information on the lords who once laid claim over the lands. Just as she thought her searching was all for naught she received a surprise in the form of a nosey librarian.

"Hello there dearie" Said the librarian to the silently reading Kagome. The librarian was an elderly onna with short white hair and glasses.

Kagome looked up from her book "Hello." she responded in a whisper before once again returning to her book. She was not meaning to come off rude she was just so absorbed in the book hoping to find something anything of use to her and her cause.

The librarian just shrugged it off and found it quite endearing that a young onna such as the one in front of her was so dedicated in her search for what ever. "I could not help but notice that you have been here almost every day for two months, and I would like to know what you are looking for. I may be able to help you find it. These old bones had just about read every book in the library about our history both fact and fiction."

Kagome looked up at the old onna again and placed her book down "Well I have been looking for stories of the Lords from the feudal era. I was hoping to find information of the youkai lord of the western lands. But had no such luck so far." Kagome informed her sadly.

A huge grin broke out on the face of the old onna "We have a book in the back but it is only allowed to a select few, I suppose I could go and get it if you promise to take good care of it. The book spoke of all four of the youkai lords from that era." The old onna said while scratching her chin thoughtfully.

Mouth agape with the idea of FINALLY finding out what she needed her eyes soon took on a delightful twinkle as a large smile graced her features making her all the more beautiful. "Th-that would be wonderful, thank you so much. I promise I will treat it as if it were a real person!" she exclaimed excitedly and honestly as the meaning of what she would find out soon finally registered in her brain 'Soon I may find out what had become of my mate!' she did not want to be too hopeful just in case there was no actual news of Sesshomaru.

The old onna smiled at her energy and happiness 'strange child' she thought as she turned to retrieve the book.

Kagome closed the book she was currently reading and pushed it aside to make room for the book she would soon be receiving. She wished that the book held what she needed and she wished that the book did not tell of his death. She would be much happier if he just disappeared because that would mean there was still a chance of him being alive. She knew that if it was a story of how he just vanished without a trace she would have no where else to look, but if the story of how he vanished was in there then there may be clues as to where he went.

The librarian found the book she was looking for and headed back to the young onna to find her staring off into space seemingly in deep thought. "Hello dearie here is that book." the old onna exclaimed as she put the large hard covered book in front of Kagome.

"Thank you!" Kagome replied with a smile as she looked over the old book.

"Your welcome darling." the librarian said before once again leaving Kagome to her devices.

Kagome opened the book and looked upon the first page.

The four corners of Japan were all ruled by four cardinal youkai Lords known as Taiyoukai. They were the four most fierce and strong amongst their kind feared by all youkai and ningen alike.

She found it something that spoke of the four youkai lords of feudal Japan! She quickly skimmed over the pages until she found something about the western youkai lord.

The Western Lord whose name was lost to history was the strongest youkai of that era. He was well known for being a cold hearted ruthless killer devoid of all emotions. Like many of his kind he had the natural dislike of the ningen race and killed many he had come across just for standing in his way or addressing him without his title. He was the eldest son of the great and terrible Inu No Taishou who was killed in battle defending his ningen wife and hanyou newborn. The Western Lord spent many centuries after his sire's death searching for a fabled sword that was said to grant the welder untold power. He was however denied the sword when his hanyou half brother whose name is also lost to time took possession of the fabled sword. It was said that he was unable to weld it or even touch it. This set off the already fierce sibling rivalry to a whole new level. He had lost his arm in a battle with his half brother while he was trying to acquire the said sword.

His attentions however were shortly sent elsewhere as a new evil creature was born. This creature had stolen something from the ruthless lord and the lord vowed revenge to right the insult that was sent at his person from the vile being. It was said that during this time he had fallen in love with a ningen miko -

Kagome closed her eyes in shock, she was in this book unless it was some other ningen miko 'it had better not be!' she thought angrily at the idea of her mate being with another. She took a calming breath before she once again began to read where she left off.

It was said that during this time he had fallen in love with a ningen miko and mated her shortly after falling in love with her. She was not just any miko; she was the miko that protected the Shikon No Tama. The Shikon miko had disappeared shortly after their mating and the lord became enraged. No more then one hundred years since the disappearance of his mate the lord turned even colder and much more evil. He killed mercilessly and thoughtlessly no matter if it was an innocent or not. It was said that killing was the only thing that stopped the pain he felt from being separated from his mate so he did it often. For fifty years the Lord terminated beings without thought as to the consequences of his actions. The Lord was too arrogant to believe any could defeat him and all the while hoping in his soul to end his torment. The Western Lord met his end during a storm while he sought shelter in a cave where a collection of holy men and women had already been sheltering. The cave location is currently unknown except that it was somewhere within the Western Mountains protected by magic.

That was all the book said of the western lord and Kagome could not hold the tears back 'he's dead? Rotting away in some cave?' she was outraged completely pissed off. He may have done horrible things during his grieving time but she understood the torment he must have been facing being alone with a mate bond who was not there. It was horrible for her and she was not even youkai. Just imagine how terrible it must have been for him! It must have been sheer torture. Kagome knew what she had to do, she had to find his body and give him the proper burial he deserved! With that thought Kagome took the book and brought it to the copy machine and made copies of the information on Sesshomaru. 'I will find him dead or alive.' she thought once again before she took the copies and placed them in her bag and brought the book to the librarian "Thank you I found exactly what I needed!" Kagome told her as she gave the book back.

"You're welcome young one." the librarian stated in a happy tone, she was always glad to be of service.

Another month had passed since the day she found the information on Sesshomaru, but she had other things on her mind currently. She was three months late on her period.

'Oh god' she thought nervously as she peed on the small while pregnancy stick hoping not to get any on herself. She placed the test down and waited for the required time before she once again looked at the test. 'Two pink lines! That means I'm' "Pregnant", she finished her thought aloud in shock at the news.

She was lost she had no clue what to do. How was she to support a child as a single mother? There was also another thing she was dreading, she would have to tell her mother.

Kagome decided that it was best to not beat around the bush and wait forever before telling her mother. She was always honest with her and would not begin being dishonest now. As Kagome sat with her mother in the kitchen after breakfast she began "Mom can I talk to you please?"

Mrs. Higurashi looked at her daughter with a smile "Sure Kagome, tell me what's on your mind?" her mother asked.

"Mom I just found out that iampregnant!" she exclaims in a squeaky nervous voice very quickly.

Her mother was shocked, but it was not unexpected Kagome did have sex in a world were birth control was none existent. Forcibly calming her raging nerves she knew her daughter needed her understanding at this moment plus it was not like the child was made out of wed lock. Just the child's father is gone most likely dead. "Oh dear honey are you going to be ok?" concern was evident in her tone as she spoke to her daughter with love and understanding.

Kagome could have cried with happiness as her mother spoke and looked at her with love and understanding. She knew she could make it through this and once she did she would set out in search of her mate's body.
