New Lands
"I will keep an eye on things while you are gone My lord."
Sesshomaru let his eyes flicker over Jaken before he turned back toward the window and looked out over Ros' land. "Yes," he responded simply. He trusted Jaken's competence and he found he was too much consumed with a desire to get away from everyone and everything to care overmuch about what he was leaving behind. He was tired of humans and their well-meaning interference and he was tired of demons and their cautious testing of him and, most of all, he was tired of the existence of other beings and that they always seemed to be in his way. What this Sesshomaru desired, more than any other thing, was a bit of privacy.
And what, he asked of the wind that now brought him the scent of snow, was more private than a mountain still covered in winter?
Sesshomaru stood on a ledge of rock high up on the side of the mountain, other mountaintops
surrounding him. He gazed out over the landscape; whiteness capped the mountains and still trailed far down their sides past the point where he was standing, spring coming later to this high altitude than to the lowlands spread between the peaks. The place was known as Himalaya, which had something to do with snow in some local tongue. He couldn't be bothered to remember what it was exactly at the moment because he was far more interested in Inuyasha.
He watched his brother dart about in the snow with the same sort of genuine eagerness that Sesshomaru would have expected of Rin. There was a look of awe on the half demon's face as he looked around him- he examined unfamiliar plants, taunted strange animals, and threw himself in drifts of snow larger than he had ever seen before dragging himself out of them again. He was so enthusiastic that when he threw a snowball at Sesshomaru, issuing an invitation to join him, the regal demon found he couldn't say no. That expression of wonder that illuminated Inuyasha's face...
Sesshomaru found that he rather liked it. He would very much like to see it there again.
--
Inuyasha was breathing heavily by the time they reached the leading edge of the snow, though that was more from his repeatedly frustrated attempts to dunk Sesshomaru in a snow bank than from any other exertion. He paused a moment to gaze around him. He'd never even imagined such a place as this. Really he'd never given much thought to places outside of Japan, even to places outside of the immediate area where he had lived. But now that he was here... he was glad that Sesshomaru had suggested this trip.
After the defeat of Naraku, he and Sesshomaru had hung around while Miroku and Sango had started to build their life together. At first he told himself it was to keep an eye on Shippou, but after awhile he wondered if that really had anything to do with it. Kouga was lurking around as well, and though he tried to avoid Inuyasha- who returned the favor- the few times they did cross paths revealed that now that Kagome was gone the majority of their antagonism toward each other had left with her. Inuyasha still didn't like the damned wolf, but he saw almost as immediately as he noticed Kouga hanging around a lot that the other demon had a certain interest in Shippou as well. It only took one instance of cornering the wolf, only slightly less quick-footed than before, for Inuyasha to drag the truth from him, though the process included the usual exchange of blows. Kouga had made a promise to Kagome, to look after the young fox and help him as he grew up.
Inuyasha wondered at first, and was a bit hurt as he wondered, why Kagome hadn't asked it of him.
He already watched over Shippou; why had she asked someone else to take on that responsibility when she hadn't even mentioned it to him? But the more that he thought about it, the more he realized the gift she'd given him. She knew he would take care of Shippou- she didn't have to ask it of him. But because she hadn't asked, she'd also given him a freedom he'd never thought about before. He could leave.
He'd never had anywhere to go before. But now... The world opened before him. Sesshomaru was Lord of the Western Lands, and Inuyasha supposed it was in his blood as well to share in that
care-taking. And who said the world stopped there? The more he thought about it the more he liked the idea. Sesshomaru never said anything to him about leaving, but he noticed that the demon would take longer and longer trips back to "check on things" in his territory and that even when he was returned from those trips he would still absent himself from the evening meal that Inuyasha usually shared with Sango, Miroku, and their brood. Long years of solitude were beginning to show after the enforced communion of the past months, and Inuyasha could see his brother was close to going crazy from the omnipresence and numerousness of the humans.
It was strange that though Miroku and Sango had only been married for a couple months, the pair already had three "children." But not so strange as well; Sango was a natural mother- a teacher and protector- so it followed that she would collect children in need of that mothering. Shippou was the most obvious; Rin soon followed, though not at all willingly. And then there was Kohaku... By all rights the boy should be dead. But he wasn't. The power of the Jewel had been absorbed into his body, and Inuyasha thought it would be quite awhile before any of them really understood what had happened. The experience had left Kohaku unavoidably changed, though amazingly he remembered little from his time as Naraku's thrall and was far more well-adjusted than Inuyasha would have expected of him.
An odd scent on the wind pulled Inuyasha from his woolgathering. More than odd- for almost
everything in this place smelled a little off- it smelled... dangerous. He grinned and glanced behind him, looking for Sesshomaru. It smelled like there was some fun waiting for them a bit further down the mountain.
Sesshomaru was beside him suddenly, slipping out from behind some rocks. "You smell it?"
Inuyasha asked.
Sesshomaru shot him a withering look and Inuyasha grinned. "Five of them," the demon murmured as he glanced down the trail. "Or more."
"Well, what are you standing there waiting for?" Inuyasha taunted as he took a flying leap down the
mountain, hitting the ground running.
He burst through a line of trees and there they were. Inuyasha skidded to a halt, eyeing the group
of demons he had stumbled upon. They weren't really surprised to see him; though the wind was currently in the half demon's favor it had been blowing down the mountain all morning, carrying his scent to this group. He grinned, showing teeth; a nice friendly tussle with some locals would
be the perfect cap to this day.
His brother slipped through the screen of trees with far more aplomb and Inuyasha felt a flicker of
mingled annoyance and admiration at Sesshomaru's deadly grace as he glared icily at the group of demons. There were six of them, arranging themselves in defensive postures now and glaring back at the interlopers. Inuyasha returned their dark looks while keeping half an eye on his brother. The group had a certain familial resemblance- they were all short and thick limbed, with square jaws and small eyes. The tallest of them stepped forward, eyeing Sesshomaru and Inuyasha warily as he drew a long, curved sword. He wore a breastplate strapped to his torso, long, dark hair falling about him as he spoke in a strange, guttural language.
Inuyasha scowled; of course he didn't know the language. Sesshomaru apparently had understood- he responded in kind, his voice haughty and bored to the other demon's wary anger. The group all tensed; the temperature in the clearing dropped another twenty degrees and Inuyasha felt his hope for a genial brawl slip away as, snarling, they all reached for their weapons. "I hope you just told him he's an ugly motherfucker," Inuyasha growled, pulling Tetsusaiga from its sheath.
"More or less," Sesshomaru responded; his voice was light but Inuyasha knew that if he took his eyes from their opponents to glance at his brother the demon's face would be blank and carefully controlled. Sesshomaru didn't draw a sword, but simply stood watching the group of demons with bored eyes.
The lead demon narrowed his eyes at Inuyasha as the half breed stepped in front of his brother, leveling his sword at the group. The demon crossed his sword with the Tetsusaiga, leaning forward in preparation to battle, and spoke again. Again Inuyasha couldn't understand the words, but the insulting tone of voice and sneer of the mouth were familiar to him; he heard Sesshomaru behind him snarl softly, pulled out of his stoic silence.
Inuyasha felt the blood rising inside him. He shifted Tetsusaiga to one hand and thrust it behind
him, shoving the hilt into Sesshomaru's hand, before he ducked under the other demon's blade, seizing it and pulling it away, and punched him in the face.
It happened so fast Sesshomaru stood blinking in surprise for a moment before the shift in events sunk in. He snarled at the other five demons in the group as they advanced on where Inuyasha and their leader were thrashing around on the ground and raised Tetsusaiga threateningly. The power of the sword pulsed through him, and when the demons didn't retreat he threw that power at them. They scattered; the blast caught one of them full on and grazed another. One of the others closed with Sesshomaru quickly, screaming in rage.
Inuyasha pushed himself up off of the demon bleeding beneath him; he'd beaten the creature half to death and the demon curled up on itself as he moved away. A narrowed gaze sought out Sesshomaru, but Inuyasha quickly found himself struck in the back by another of their opponents and he went crashing to the ground with the demon on top of him. Sudden pain ripped through
him as he felt a sword stab through his shoulder, the demon twisted the blade before pulling it out and stabbed it down again. Roaring in anger, Inuyasha reached behind him with his other arm and clawed the demon viciously. The demon retreated and Inuyasha pushed himself up, wrenching the sword impaled through his shoulder in the process and widening the wound. He turned on the demon, crouched a few feet away, and pulled the sword from his shoulder to strike at the creature
with it. Weaponless, the demon caught the blade in his bare hands as it came down toward him. Inuyasha's lip curled in a snarl; he held the sword one handed as he tore the demon apart with the blood covered claws of his other hand. Turning away from the bloody corpse, he searched for Sesshomaru again and found him fencing with two of their opponents not far away. That left one of the six unaccounted for, but Inuyasha soon found him; the sixth and final opponent was advancing
on the half breed steadily, a deadly look in his eye.
Inuyasha heard Sesshomaru shout, and he looked up in time to raise a hand and catch hold of Tetsusaiga as it fell through the sky in a shining arc. He glanced at his brother, but Sesshomaru turned away from him to deal with one of his opponents, pulling Toukijin as he turned. Inuyasha shivered; he did not like that sword. But he found that he had other things to fill his mind as he turned his attention back to his own opponent. The demon attacked him hard and fast, darting in with a swift downward slice of the battleaxe that was his chosen weapon. Unable to dodge, Inuyasha caught the full force of the blow on his hastily raised sword and he braced himself as the force of the strike pushed him backwards slightly. This demon was snarling something at him too-
looking at the expression on his face, Inuyasha didn't have to think too hard about what it might be. But, to help him out with that, the demon growled out the one word of Japanese it seemed to know. His accent was so horrible that Inuyasha thought maybe it wasn't even supposed to be Japanese- the word was perhaps just remarkably similar in both languages. But the utter contempt on the face that leaned over him was clear as it spat out, "Half-blood."
He wasn't sure why it was making him so angry. It certainly wasn't the first time he'd been called
names, and Inuyasha only barely remembered a time in his life when he hadn't known that his blood was considered unclean in some way. But it sure was pissing the hell out of him today. He barely noticed his protesting shoulder as he shoved back against his opponent; Tetsusaiga was caught up against the base of the ax blade where it joined the hilt and Inuyasha twisted it down so that it bit into the wooden hilt and severed the weapon in half. The demon barely had time to register what had happened before Tetsusaiga severed his head from his body just as neatly. Without pausing, Inuyasha slipped over to where the two remaining demons were battling Sesshomaru. More accurately, one was actively attacking his brother while the other hung back and waited for a good opening. His opening never materialized; coming up behind him, Inuyasha thrust Tetsusaiga through his chest.
Inuyasha looked up, his face expressionless, to see Sesshomaru neatly dispatching his own opponent. The two brothers stood for a moment looking at each other before Sesshomaru came over and touched Inuyasha's shoulder wordlessly. In the sudden stillness of death that surrounded them, the intermittent moans of the only remaining survivor were all that broke the silence. Inuyasha's eyes flickered to the demon, the one he'd beaten into unconsciousness; apparently he was conscious again. Or somewhat so. "What did he say," he asked Sesshomaru, his voice
low, "before?"
Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow. "If you don't know what he said, why did you almost beat him to death?"
Inuyasha shrugged. "What did he say?" he asked again.
Sesshomaru's face went cold and flat. He didn't respond, but he walked over to the demon and,
looking down at him for a moment, calmly used Toukijin to part his head from his body.
Inuyasha blinked in surprise for a moment, but he followed Sesshomaru without comment, both of them silent again as they left the bloody clearing, snow beginning to fall softly and cover what had happened there.
It was almost enough to make him forget the glimpse he'd caught, while fighting, of another demon watching them through the trees.
--
The snow was falling thicker now, as Sesshomaru stepped through another grove of trees and ducked into a cave. Inuyasha followed him blindly and moved without conscious direction, as he
had been doing since their meeting with the native demons earlier. Sesshomaru reached out to catch his brother by the shoulder and stop him walking forward, scowling as he did so. Inuyasha had been in such a good mood before they met up with those damned ruffians; it was enough
to make the demon want to go back and kill them all again. He reached over to push the clothing away from Inuyasha's other shoulder, the injured one, so that he could look at the wound. He forgot
that he was still scowling; Inuyasha looked up at him and, seeing the expression, his ears went back as he pushed the demon away. He pulled his clothes straight and glared at his brother darkly.
Sesshomaru felt a strange sense of deja vu at Inuyasha's reaction; he rather thought it wasn't the fight itself, which had proved maddening disappointing, which had caused Inuyasha's black mood but rather something one of the demons had said. Sesshomaru found himself reminded of Chernobog; the last time this had happened he'd pushed Inuyasha and the half breed had run. This time he turned away, searching the cave for something to start a fire. They wouldn't need the warmth, but it would make things more comfortable, especially as he expected the snow to not stop falling for quite awhile. "I believe there is a storm coming," Sesshomaru said, glancing out the mouth of the cave at the still thickening fall of snow. He found a broken branch and some dead leave; they would do perfectly and he moved near the mouth of the cave, starting a fire with a small
bit of demon magic that would keep it burning well past when the small amount of fuel should have burned out.
He turned to Inuyasha then; his brother was still standing where he had been earlier, scowling dazedly at nothing and blinking rapidly. "Inuyasha," Sesshomaru called softly and the half demon looked up at him warily. Sesshomaru went over to him, touching his shoulder gently as he murmured, "Just let me look at it." Inuyasha shrugged in seeming indifference, but as Sesshomaru pulled open his haori the half breed struck; grabbing Sesshomaru's wrist in a bruisingly hard grip
he threw the demon back against the wall and pinned him there with the weight of his body. Sesshomaru's lip curled in a snarl as he almost effortlessly reversed their positions, pinning Inuyasha against the wall, the half breed struggling in his grasp. He went still suddenly and Sesshomaru relaxed slightly. Inuyasha whipped one hand out of the demon's grip and wrapped it around Sesshomaru's neck, long claws pricking at the skin. But it was only a show at defiance; the hand fell away and Inuyasha fell against his brother, his face burrowing deeper against the warmth of the demon's chest. Sesshomaru pulled him close, then dragged him over to the fire and resolutely tried to examine his shoulder again.
"I'm not going to fucking break," Inuyasha demanded, annoyed at the attention, but there was an edge to his protest.
Sesshomaru looked up, meeting those golden eyes with his own. He wondered if there was a way he could convince Inuyasha that it was not because he thought the half breed weaker than himself that he insisted on seeing to his wound; he supposed there was nothing he could say that would do the trick. Instead of responding verbally, Sesshomaru pushed his brother's clothing back further, revealing the ugly wound, and deliberately began to lick the blood from his shoulder. Inuyasha regarded him with surprise, but Sesshomaru continued to lave the area with his tongue until it was clean and the wound had completely stopped bleeding. At some point, Inuyasha had stopped resisting and wrapped his arms around his brother's neck, licking at a group of small cuts on the
demon's cheek.
His attention no longer needed at the wounded shoulder, Sesshomaru slid a hand inside of Inuyasha's kosode, pulling the garment away from his brother's body and exploring the skin there with inquisitive fingers as he captured Inuyasha's mouth with his own. Inuyasha moaned softly into the kiss, his body relaxing further in response to the familiar act. His head lolled back as Sesshomaru nipped his way lightly down the half breed's neck before working his way down further to a hardened nipple.
Inuyasha's hands came up and buried themselves in the silky length of Sesshomaru's hair, guiding the hot mouth on his skin as he arched into the touch. He gasped and moaned, and when Sesshomaru paused to glace up at Inuyasha's face appreciatively, the half breed shoved the taller demon to the ground and kissed him forcefully, his tongue plunging into a mouth open and waiting for him. Sesshomaru's hands came up to finish the job he'd started earlier- undressing Inuyasha. He untied the half breed's hakama and slipped his hand inside. Inuyasha had to break the kiss as he threw his head back and gasped, his body going rigid as he sucked in the air, only to let it out in a loud moan, his head tucked against Sesshomaru's shoulder as the demon's fingers traced patterns of fire over highly sensitive skin and then curled possessively around the hard length of flesh there.
Sesshomaru eased his brother off of him, laying the half demon down on his back, one hand working to remove his own clothing as his mouth took over from his fingers and he took his brother's cock in between his lips, his tongue twirling around the sensitive head. Inuyasha cried out in ecstasy, his fingers tangled in Sesshomaru's hair as if trying to hold on to the demon lest everything float away as he lost himself in this feeling. His legs fell open wider, inviting, and he used one hand to push his remaining clothing even more resolutely off his body. Sesshomaru smiled softly to himself; having sex with Inuyasha was an experience that never grew old. His brother changed almost every time- sometimes he was loud, sometimes he was almost silent; sometimes he simply melted, sometimes he was intense; sometimes he was content to receive, sometimes he insisted on returning every sensation twofold. It was... amazing. A source of amazement that Sesshomaru had never in his life thought he would find.
He paused for a moment in his assault on the sensitive areas of Inuyasha's body, his tongue having shifted to explore those areas from the inside of that body, to look up at Inuyasha's face. His brother raised his face to look at Sesshomaru as well- he was disheveled and wanton, and his eyes burned with a deep golden fire. Sesshomaru met those fiery eyes with his own as he leaned over Inuyasha. He touched the half breed's face softly and wondered whether he would ever truly be able to give words to the way Inuyasha made him feel.
Inuyasha felt something stir in him as Sesshomaru met his eyes. There was something in the demon's gaze that Inuyasha couldn't remember ever seeing there before. It made him shiver and moan in anticipation as he felt Sesshomaru easing his way inside of Inuyasha's body. Inuyasha growled softly at the odd but not painful feeling. Sesshomaru paused to lick the half breed's shoulder; it had started to bleed again. Inuyasha almost expected Sesshomaru to stop then, to
pull back from this weak, injured body in fear of breaking it further.
He was surprised when he felt his brother pull out, then snap back against him. Inuyasha felt his back arch as he hissed softly at the sudden movement; he reached up and pulled Sesshomaru closer, demanding with voice and tongue and fingers that the demon do it again. Sesshomaru complied, and Inuyasha lost himself again in the pleasure that coursed through his body, vocalizing it profusely in case any should be in doubt of the way he felt.
Sesshomaru gazed down at the writhing creature beneath him as he continued to slide in and out of that exquisite body. He tasted skin and sweat and, as he leaned up to nip one of his brother's furry ears, blood. He growled, something in him wanting even more of what he'd tasted earlier. He sank his teeth into that ear again more firmly, and Inuyasha yelped in surprised pain. Sesshomaru blinked and released him, but his brother grabbed him by the arms and demanded, "Again." Sesshomaru grinned. He gently licked the blood away then bit him again. Inuyasha yelped again, then responded in kind, biting Sesshomaru firmly along his collarbone. The demon growled, a deep rumble in his chest, and snapped at the ear one more time.
Inuyasha growled. Pain and pleasure were one inside of him, and his release throbbed inside of him. The hard flesh of his length begged to be touched, but four hands weren't enough to handle everything that needed to be touched in this moment. But maybe that was alright... His essence, his entire self, pooled in his belly and forced itself out through his cock and he thought he would
explode as he came just from the feeling of his brother inside of him.
Feeling Inuyasha's climax, Sesshomaru shivered. The body that surrounded him contracted around him, holding him even more tightly, and he thrust desperately into that warmth a couple more times before he also reached his climax. He buried himself in his brother's body and came, Inuyasha's fingers on his face as he kissed the half breed, wanting nothing more than to fill Inuyasha completely with himself.
They lay for a long moment, their breathing heavy from the intensity of their exchange. Sesshomaru moved first, licking a few stray drops of blood from Inuyasha's ear before he moved down, carefully separating their bodies, and cleaned his brother's release from where it had spattered over his stomach and chest. Inuyasha watched him lazily, then returned the favor, soothing the blood away from Sesshomaru's collarbone and licking away the come where it had gotten on him as well.
The fire had made the cave warm, so there was no hurry to dress as they lay stretched out on their stomachs beside each other near the fire and looked out at the snow falling. Sesshomaru turned to softly kiss the back of Inuyasha's neck as he lay just behind his brother, but Inuyasha gave no sign that he felt it, instead gazing raptly out past the fire and into the snow. The demon rested his chin on his brother's shoulder, blinking lazily as he looked into the fire. Sated and warm, he looked forward to not having to move for awhile.
"There's someone out there," Inuyasha murmured and Sesshomaru's head shot up as he narrowed his eyes in an attempt to see more clearly through the snow. Sure enough there was a dark shape moving through the whiteness toward them.
The dark shape materialized more quickly than Sesshomaru would have thought; there was still plenty of time for them to prepare themselves to meet whatever it was but neither of the pair lying by the fire moved. Sesshomaru refused to let some unknown element ruin his comfort; Inuyasha was tense beside him but gave no sign as to what he was feeling. As it ducked inside the mouth of the cave, the shape revealed itself to be a demon. Sesshomaru fixed it with a glare and demanded, "What do you want?"
